Yes. In LN, it is stated that it is more difficult to perform a compressed and minute version the spell than creating a big version of the of the spell. So he is making and detailing the figurine to practice his control on smaller and minute part of the earth spell.

Another anime last year with the Isekai boy who lives with lots of slimes also has this where "Use magic as something fun daily to learn how to control and manipulate them".
Unfortunately the anime does skip over a lot of how Rudy has been improving his magic powers. It is mentioned and suggested here and there but is hard to catch and they don't really bring it up too often in the anime. But it comes down to two main ways. First is constantly draining his mana everyday. Rudy discovered that while you are still pre-adolescent by doing this everyday you can infinitely increase your mana bank, going against the world's previous notion that mana storage is fixed at birth. This is mentioned in ep 1. The reason no one discovered this fact is that your mental capacity needs to reach a certain threshold to start using mana, so when normal people are able to use mana they are usually at an age where their mana pool is locked. The second way he improves is through his small minute control of mana through his figurines. It's incredibly hard to have a really fine control of mana down to the level of detail of figurines, and his control of mana exponentially increases as he gets better at controlling it at such a minute scale. Which means that sculpting Roxy's panties and making her robe removeable wasn't just to satisfy his perviness! But yeah, by doing these two things he is constantly improving his capacity to store mana and his ability to control it, even if most it is off screen, we still see some hints of it here and there. Also, I forgot the exact numbers/details but I believe his new staff reduces the mana cost of his spells to 1/5 of their original cost, meaning he can use spells 5 times as powerful but at the same cost. Sorry for the essay lol
Dont say sorry for the long comment! I enjoyed reading it and learned a lot of stuff that was never mentioned in the anime! Thank you for commenting :p
I think you forgot about the staff that actually helps out increase a bit of his power. And was made out of many materials throughout the kingdom. Reason why he was surprised was for the amount of small use of MP he used for the Water Ball and how it was unleashed. Sorry if I may have ended up spoiling it for you if it seems that way but it is kinda obvious in the episode

In LN, it does stated that he want to test the capability of the staff. So he tested it with simple water ball spell. Turns out the staff is able to amplify around 5x the power with the same amount of mana.

But didnt we learn that Slyph can also cast chantless spells and also increase her mana while Rudy was training her? Rudy got down on himself because he realized that he's not as special as he thought, as it seems that if they start early enough anyone could potentially do the same things.
Pretty much. Chantless magic is an educational problem. It's like learning to drive a Manual car vs an automatic car. When an automatic driver switches to a manual car. They will take a while to learn how and when to shift gear properly. Magic seems to be a harder version of this example.
True, but not every child can do that. Rudy did it very early, much earlier than any child. You can see Eris, 9 years old and don't know how to cast magic. It's not just about education, but magic talent and lots of practice which not many children even willing to do.
*spoiler* thats mostly true. even within chantless magic individuals still have their strong and weak systems. rudy's aptitude AND understanding of the cause and effects related to magic outstrip most. slyphie, even chantless, still has to use spells one at a time. rudy on the other hand just kind of mixes magic to get the effect he wants. slyphie would be considered a peak prodigy magician, rudy is an absolute freak of nature.
@@resengan123 that's pretty much how rudy is in the mushoku tensei world. His mana is abnormal to the point that it should not even exist. Laplace Factor is like steroids to his mana, hell it even matches Laplace's mana which is insane.
@@resengan123 taking the strength and weakness you mention, Rudeus can cast speechless almost every school of magic except when it comes to really high levels that required a complicated incantation, when is the first time he is using it, or, his weakness, healing magic, he never get to learn how to use speechless and that is something related to a problem (my theory is because his soul is not from this world), sylphide can use it and is really good at it., something I like about this series is that Rudy never went full kirito he isn't actually especial, or at least referring to power, he is in fact really powerful as a grown-up, but by his own right, his power was build step by step by his own work as a child and as you mention discovering several educational problems referring to magic on this world.
Turning point indeed. You can very well call this the end of the prologue, and the beginning of the main plot. 2:49 I think he just wants his sons back.
This show is so good with the way of telling a story about someone trying to rediscover and redeem himself with a brand new life presented with him while still trying to figure out a seemingly peaceful but truly dangerous and tainted world. I especially like Eris's development here, too. Instead of stomping out in disgust after retaliating against Rudy's ill advised advances, she came back and accepted his apology, knowing that he recognized his mistake and showed remorse for it. She's become more attached and trusting to Rudy, to where she was willing to keep him company on the night of his 10th birthday, regardless of whether or not someone else did put her up to it. It's so sad that the people are only gonna keep complaining about the sexuality stuff and make all sorts of excuses to say why this series is supposedly bad, without realizing they keep contradicting their own ideals and points multiple times in the process.
I think its incredibly fair to think these developments are not great. We already know how Rudy views Sylphie with the whole "grooming" aspect there, and that situation is essentially carrying over to his and Eris's relationship. Not really sure what it is with this series, but the female cast is incredibly weak-willed towards everything beyond fighting: they get easily aroused by people having intercourse, they are constantly molested (most of these scenes being played off comedically) with quite minor retaliation, and their actions towards people who upset them are quite light (Zenith let her cheating and rapist husband off easily, and Eris simply did her usual tsun hits on Rudy after he touched her twice.) I do think that this series does a lot nicely with its worldbuilding and obviously the anime looks amazing, but the character writing really has some big issues, especially this week with how minor Rudy's "realization" ended up being - if that was supposed to be a big step forward for him (which ended up being a promise to continue in a few years) then I am quite worried for the future of this.
@@Theleux. he works on himself a bit more in the future. The books definitely delved deeper into Rudy’s mindset when that “scene” had happened. When Eris came back tho and let him off with an excuse, he immediately starts trying to hold himself to that promise but don’t expect these kind of moments to happen again. Rudy is gonna be so focused on other shit, he won’t have the time to really think about that stuff. Tho he will still be Pervy at times.
@@Ryuseishun I absolutely agree, but at the same time I feel that presentation matters a lot when it comes to introducing heavy themes like this. Thus far almost every single 'concerning' moment has ended up being portrayed in a comedic manner, even things like the Paul cheating situation ended with Paul and Rudy having a silly conversation about women and then Paul implying that Rudy should 'establish' some things with Sylphie (plays out as grooming considering Rudy's mental age). To me the way this has been handled is very worrisome, even with the prospect of potential developments to come.
Well its kinda hard when the world has a different value system in some ways, like how marriage in this world were people get married young, and nobles in this world are naturally scummy and do whatever they want it definitely old world value system like this world had.
By the way, the reason why Rudy was able to cast his magic so effortlessly was because of his staff. I don't know if this was really explained in the anime but the staff amplifies magic strength, speed, etc. to a certain extent.
this was the end of the introduction arc, this 8 episodes you can see them as a prolog, introducing characters, locations and motivations, everything that was said or shown is relevant in the future , this is the type of story that force you to pay attention to every conversation, i know it can be super confusing now with all those characters coming out from nowere but there is a reason for everything and everyone

I don't think this was explicitly said in the latest episode of the anime, but all those clay figurines that he has in his bedroom were made using earth magic. In the novel at around the time he starts teaching Eris, Rudeus says that he switched to practicing in his free time using earth magic since it's less destructive than fire or water magic. It’s really hard to recommend this anime which is a shame because the word building and animation and characters and magical use and sound effects are amazing
Also Rudy is mostly pulling of Saint class Magic at this point... the order goes from weakest to strongest beginner, intermediate, advanced, saint, king, emperor, God . But you better believe he works his way up.
This is one of a turning point for our MC. Great episode as always, but the only thing that i was dissapointed was the lack of showing the regret and self-loathing of the action that he had made on Eris, because he almost destroyed his relationship with her, as mentioned on the LN, to the verge of thinking to leave the manor and returning to his hometown. Sage's review of episode 8 does explain this part a little bit more detail in case ur interested to look into it
Im thinking it may be because of his channeling without using the chants. It might be a taboo or something. I have an idea that its causing his mana to always be released.
Well, his involvement is questionable. SPOILER FOR WHOEVER WANTS TO KNOW MORE . . . . . . Basically a warring nation in the future is gonna try to summon one of the guys that died along with Rudy in the truck incident. That guy dies in a war, and soon after the girl that summoned him dies too. But before she dies, she sacrifices her powers in order to summon someone to keep him safe, the person being Nanahoshi, the girl that died in the incident a long with the guy and Rudy. Basically, since the rift between the world has been opened twice, Rudy's soul kinda slipped in by accident since he was present at the time of the accident. Because he went in unnoticed, he reincarnated into a stillborn child, while Nanahoshi's summoning was delayed by 10 years because of the world's opposition to the violation of its own rules. Once the world could not resist the pressure anymore, the summoning massive energy exploded, displacing anyone in the whole region and finally summoning Nanahoshi. No one of the characters involved in the main story is responsible of the incident, that are all innocent bystanders that suffer the consequences of the selfishness of a nation that summoned a highschool boy to win a gruesome war.
Philip was downplayed in the anime. He didnt belive Eris had a chance of being a noble or that Rudy would be as successful. Also knew how smart Rudy was and That he was acting. At that point he realized that he could use Rudy and Eris as chess pieces for potical gains. Cause yeah in the LN its confirmed he set Eris up to trap Rudy in this game.
With regards to the bedroom scene, this is the final time Rudeus does something like that. He is still pervy, but there won’t be anymore borderline rape stuff.

The public has to realize that this is a fantasy story and is portraying a character with actual realistic faults, we could see someone from our world would have if they were placed in a similar situation. He's not the perfect protagonist like we seen in thousands of other shows, he has faults and as things progress, we'll see if he gets closer to a better version of himself. I'm sure if they cut this part from the anime, but still had it in the manga, y'all would complain as well. Don't try to cancel this like SHIELD HERO.
There are flaws applicable to normal people, and flaws applicable to very specific groups of people. Most people will not be able to empathize and accept how excessive Rudy can be when he quite literally starts molesting (yes, it is molesting because he is mentally a grown man and Eris was either asleep or not consenting, especially since up until this episode he has shown no remorse). They might be able to understand it and move past it when he realizes how fucked up it is, but then again they might not and it's perfectly understandable if they cant. That kind of content is not meant for everyone.
I really like anime only ytbers, feels like you have someone to talk to with the same knowledge and filling out the questions together. Unlike others who knows what's gonna happen anyways.
Oh chibi this miniature... ahuahuahuahhauah I wanted to comment a thing, but i will refrain myself And thus, the "turning point" has come, time to start an great arc
This episode absolutely blew me away. I've read the whole light novel and... the animation, the sound effects, they all just blew my fucking mind. The designs of the characters shown at the end of the episode surprised me so pleasantly, but also amazed me in a way I didn't expect. Fantastic episode in every way.
6:40 I think the reason why his mana pool kept getting bigger and bigger is because of daily training like the first episodes where he kept on drying up his mana until he can cast higher level spells and the thing about staffs is they magnify the effects of a spell at a reduced cost of mana
They deliberately called it a staff in the anime because it is a staff. It serves a same purpose as a wand, to amplify and improve magic, but staffs are more powerful than wands.
You got pretty damn close if not right on with quite a few of your predictions, good job man. Yeah in the books Eris's parents are incredibly impressed by him and how he is the only boy that doesn't run from Eris in fear, so they try to convince her to "lock him down" as soon as he turned 10, they were behind it the whole time and yeah I think it had to do with her father's plans for a power grab.
I'm pretty sure the coup and rudy's significance to it is tied to the fact that paul's real name is paul "Notos" greyrat which is the lineage of greyrat that is currently the head. Paul's younger brother is the current head presumably because paul left. So the boreas line can sponsor rudy since technically he has claim to the head of the greyrat family.
Congrats, you finished the prologue! I don't consider it a spoiler, but all the questions you brought up were answered in the light novel, some earlier, some much later, but if the adaption keeps on giving, there WILL be answers to all of them, even if they get shuffeled around a bit. About the magic system and Rudi's capabilities, the mana disturbance or why Arumanfi attacked Rudi. Just maybe not immediately.
Oh, nice catch on the wyvern-not-dragon bit. I didn't even think of trying to actually identify the beast as I just instantly thought "dragon" when I saw it appear from behind. There was just too much hype for me to notice, lol.
@Chibi Reviews In first vol of LN it was mention that people in this world born with fixed mana capacity form birth (capacity is random though). But later we find out most people can't use that capacity fully because they start learning magic in age of 7 or later And 10 is the last age where u you can improve your magic capacity uses. but rudy started in age of 2. There are more factor is to why he have so much mana but i wont spoiled.
The fight impressed me, the sound design is so satisfying too. But the cliffhanger is killing me now... This episode reminded me that there is a lot to discover, fascinating.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't grow anymore, the reason it says in the book he read that mana doesn't grow is because people that begin to learn magic at an age where it doesn't grow anymore, one of the reason hé has so much mana is because he trained it since he was a toddler.
2:50 It's most likely because Philip wants to win a fight he already lost. In the conversation they had, Philip pointed out that he had two sons but he lost the succession and thus his children were sent to the other house.
Finally nice to see someone acknowledge that although many want Rudy to change for the better quicker he always one to go out of his way to help others and overal improves peoples lifes for better be it teaching people magic to not bullied, saving his parents marriage and lifes, teaching people math and writimg not starve in th streets, and finally maturing someone with ediquite and morals to belong amoung nobles.
Speaking about the animation, another reviewer mentioned, when was that last time you saw a hand animated dragon? Studio Bind has been killing it week to week with this show.
i love watching chibi videos because when he gets stuff right its big brain but when he gets it wrong its hes trying to fire a bow without looking at the target.
3:33 I think this is a very Game of Thrones type of situation, I mean both of Philip sons are hostages to the other Greyrat family branch and that's very specifically intended so they control the heirs to Sauros branch of the Greyrat family. But now with Rudy in the picture, they recognize he has a tremendous potential and they can groom him into becoming the new head of the family through marriage with Eris, he is perfect for them, he is a Greyrat from a ally house after all and is pretty much unknown to the larger Gentry, so they can keep him hidden until the time is right. Also, though through the lens of a current year western moral standards Rudy may be a creep, through the standards of this very much medieval society, Rudeus is pretty tame, not only within his immediate family but to pretty much everyone we have met in this world so far. It's clear the story is really going for that medieval feel, you know?
6:50 in my opinion the reason he could use that magic so effortlessly is probably because of the staff he got, he even commented about that tho I might be wrong, and the staff makes any spell he casts into a strong one because the magic he casted in this episode was the one that he used in the first or second episode but this one was just powered up
Him using that spell with so little mana is probably(/defiantly) due to the new staff. He made that water ball to see what the staff can do. Remember that those wands and staffs enhance a user's spells. So better the staff, lower the amount of mana required. Edit: Also Slyph also have a very large amount of mana now as well. So I don't think that Rudy has anything to do with this. with how the story has been going, it's very
The mana thingy is sorta like this: you deplete you mana, you out but it refills tomorrow and the amount of mana you have doubled and Rudy has basically been doing this a ton when young, as you see in his room there is a ton of figures and in the light novel it explains it takes up more mana to use a smaller version of the magic
Hes referencing to the staff using little mana to have so much power amplified due to the high quality of the orb on the staff. This was explained back when rudeus was roxy student. Also back when he received the staff from eris.
About the 'that is a Wyvern' observation: Nope, that is a Red dragon (that location is called the Red dragon mountain range, specifically because flocks of Red dragons live there and attack anyone who enters their territory). About the classification: 'if it has 4 legs +2 wings = Dragon, if it has 2 legs+2 wings = Wyvern', I would guess that is a concept you assimilated from D&D or some other RPG game; historically/real world mythology Dragons are extremely varied in shape (just think of Cinese dragons, the Dragon of the 7 Balls from Dragonball, south american feathery dragon gods and medieval heraldic dragon depictions); historically 'Dragon' is actually a 'catch-all' term and it has been somewhat defined in popular culture only recently by D&D/Tolkien tropes. Anyway, keep up the good work; cheers :)
didn't eris explain how the staff worksin the episode? It amplifies the magic while decreases mana consumption so I don't think rudeus' mana was at critical point that the staff is unrelated to his spells being stronger.
the staff amplifies magic, thats why it was so effortless for the waterball. Im an anime only but the interpretation i got was that gathering mana around the object in the sky caused the object to absorb and possibly amplify the magic spell, i dont think it was wise to cast spells in the sky anywhere near that thing, they all said its a good thing but to any sane person that looks like an omen lol.
I just caught up and came straight here...I have really been enjoying this series. The only sucky part is letting the episodes stack up before binging them 4 at a time!
So the greyrat power struggle was explained in more detail in the light novel. I definitely recommend reading up until the turning point in the light novel at this point to understand the bits of information that were lost.
saying anything regarding this video and your thoughts would probably lead to spoilers. but you have hit on some of the things that will be relevant later on in the story. this is one of the major points in the story. I would reccomend keeping what happens at this point in mind as we go further in to the story and learn more about rudeus and the world of mushoku tensei

I’m not too sure but I think the water magic that he used at the end was a test because he got a new wand from Eris
Yes, He did that's the reason why He did the water magic, but Chibi's point is still there.
Yeah, I think both can be true at once tbh.
In the LN, Eris specifically asked Rudy to see his Saint level magic at his birthday party, that's why they went to that field
In LN, it does stated that he want to test the capability of the staff. So he tested it with simple water ball spell.
Turns out the staff is able to amplify around 5x the power with the same amount of mana.
That’s literally all there is to it. Eris asked him to do a demonstration of his magic while using the new wand and he did.

Unfortunately, yes those are canonically called dragons.
Unfortunately, in the LN they're called red wyrms
Yeah, I love Chibi but it's hard not to raise an eyebrow when he throws shade at Skyrim for not being an arbiter of what a dragon is, but then uses DnD definitions as if it was one.

@@bobtharealest3723 agreed.
Yes, the development of Eris is really great.
I think its incredibly fair to think these developments are not great. We already know how Rudy views Sylphie with the whole "grooming" aspect there, and that situation is essentially carrying over to his and Eris's relationship.
Not really sure what it is with this series, but the female cast is incredibly weak-willed towards everything beyond fighting: they get easily aroused by people having intercourse, they are constantly molested (most of these scenes being played off comedically) with quite minor retaliation, and their actions towards people who upset them are quite light (Zenith let her cheating and rapist husband off easily, and Eris simply did her usual tsun hits on Rudy after he touched her twice.)
I do think that this series does a lot nicely with its worldbuilding and obviously the anime looks amazing, but the character writing really has some big issues, especially this week with how minor Rudy's "realization" ended up being - if that was supposed to be a big step forward for him (which ended up being a promise to continue in a few years) then I am quite worried for the future of this.
@@Theleux. development doesn't always need to start out great. We're only through 8 episodes so far.
@@Theleux. he works on himself a bit more in the future.

I do enjoy how close yet so far you get with your theories. Also in the episode he says that the big boost in strength is due to the staff.
The designs of the characters shown at the end of the episode surprised me so pleasantly, but also amazed me in a way I didn't expect. Fantastic episode in every way.
Finally! Everything will really start.
6:40 I think the reason why his mana pool kept getting bigger and bigger is because of daily training like the first episodes where he kept on drying up his mana until he can cast higher level spells and the thing about staffs is they magnify the effects of a spell at a reduced cost of mana
you're forgetting he was using his new "wand"
They deliberately called it a staff in the anime because it is a staff. It serves a same purpose as a wand, to amplify and improve magic, but staffs are more powerful than wands.
You got pretty damn close if not right on with quite a few of your predictions, good job man. Yeah in the books Eris's parents are incredibly impressed by him and how he is the only boy that doesn't run from Eris in fear, so they try to convince her to "lock him down" as soon as he turned 10, they were behind it the whole time and yeah I think it had to do with her father's plans for a power grab.
Honestly I'm more excited for this than Attack On Titan. I daresay this and Wonder Egg Priority are better than AOT.
Hence why they probably want to keep the fact that Rudy is living with them quiet, it might make the other branches suspicious of them.
It was a really good cliffhanger, I am really scared that first core would leave at cliffhanger (I really don't want that) as it is only 11 eps

I don't consider it a spoiler, but all the questions you brought up were answered in the light novel, some earlier, some much later, but if the adaption keeps on giving, there WILL be answers to all of them, even if they get shuffeled around a bit. Mushoku tensei will trend on Twitter soon XD ... glad I'm a fan from day 1!
The fight impressed me, the sound design is so satisfying too.
But the cliffhanger is killing me now... This episode reminded me that there is a lot to discover, fascinating.
Rudy is actually expanding his mana capacity for the past few years by constantly creating those statues EVERYDAY.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't grow anymore, the reason it says in the book he read that mana doesn't grow is because people that begin to learn magic at an age where it doesn't grow anymore, one of the reason hé has so much mana is because he trained it since he was a toddler.

I would reccomend keeping what happens at this point in mind as we go further in to the story and learn more about rudeus and the world of mushoku tensei

i just finished reading the LN and they have alot of material to work with here, they could make 5 seasons each 24 eps each if they wanted to cover the entire thing but they could skip some stuff and take it down to around maybe 4 seasons
The first storm of many that will come finally hit, this is the first point for rudy that will make us see him grow as a mage and a person. For anime only, This is going to be an amazing journey if you can stay with rudy along thay journey.
How much sources material is out?
He casted the orb of water effortlessly becasue of the new staff me thinks... he was giveing he's new "car" a test run. Go back to see the episode where he gets the wand from he's teacher, it kind of explains there how staffs and wands make they're spellcasting more efficient but not necesarly more potent. :D
Good guesses or off guesses, I dig your enthusiasm and vision.
