This is probably the most positive break-up song I've ever heard. I've always liked Chicago's sound. The addition of horn sections really gave the band a cool, urbane, 'uptown' and sophisticated kind of sound, and helped it tower above competing acts from the 1970s.
It's NOT a positive break up song. "The best thing to happen to you, was the WORST thing to happen to me." (It's how I feel about my last breakup, incidentally.)
The addition of “horn sections“? Bro, the horns have been there since jump street. How could you forget the first album in 1969? “Beginnings“, “Questions 67 and 68“? Does anybody really know what time it is”? The horns were ripping on every cut. It’s just a shame about Terry Kath and his tragic death. His guitar licks on 25 or 6 to 4 were sheer genius. His vocals on “make me smile“ are legendary. At 24 years of age, he sounded like a soulful, 60 something blues/ jazz virtuoso. What a loss. Chicago went on to do beaucoup albums, but they never could replace Terry. Rest in peace brother.
