Great video! And yes it is worth buying. I’ve been using mine for the new Powerplay in particular for wreckage collecting and occasional fighting. I can’t wait to go out exploring in it.
Absolutely yes. It gives you the same functionality of the Conda, none of the unnecessary fluff, and the same range. It also has a smaller footprint. The advantage the conda brings is you can bring tons of extras without losing too much range, but you suffer landing for exobiology. Im sitting just shy of 78 Ly with enough shielding to smack the odd planet or two safely, an SRV, and an AFM and Repair Limpet so I can be fully self sufficient. Its also a dream in VR for exploring with the huge bubble canopy.
"It also has a smaller footprint" So true and this makes it s superb mount for any explorer/exobiologist. it's a dream to put down and those annoying fungoidia setsis are back on the menu boys...
@@TeppiaxD We're referring to how much space you need to land a ship on a planet surface. The footprint is the area the landing gear requires as well as the minimum clearance from the ground to the bottom of the ship. So ships like the T-10 have a small footprint despite being a large ship compared to other large ships like the Anaconda or the Corvette. Small ships of course have the smallest footprints and many are great for exobiology because you can squish them into tight spots in the mountains for those valuable bios that are in difficult terrain. The Mandalay is a medium ship, but it has a relatively small footprint/landing area requirement so it is excellent for using it like it's a small ship while having the advantages of being a medium sized ship with more internal space.
Yes, your description of the Medaly is truly wonderful! I love my Anaconda with its 88 light-years, but as they say, the journey is the destination. With that in mind, have fun, and see you in the mining fields!
I have not played ED in years and I no longer have a working pc. So, that should tell you a lot when I say - I bought a Mandalay 😁 I may not be able to anything with it for a while (many things to deal with first) but at least I know I'll have one of the (if not THE) most gorgeous and capable ships in the game patiently waiting until I can.
Engineered mine, dirty drag, fsd. The handling is fantastic, had a lot of fun in canyons. Burnt 350kls in only minutes. My new goto ship. Great job fdev!
I agree that it is a great ship however you can expect to spend on average about 45 minutes trying to land it the high mountain regions where most Fundgodia Setisis are at. For reference I spend on average about 20 minutes trying to land my Cobra MK3 in the high mountains. The reason for the disparity is the size of the ships landing footprint. The high mountains just don't have as many larger clear area's to land, and the larger landing zones tend to be farther down in the valley's which means it will take more travel time to get to them. If you do not have a carrier it is the best choice as an exploration ship even with this limitation. The longer jump range makes getting back to a human inhabited system much faster when you need to. The ( sco ) FSD makes getting around those systems with multiple stars way faster also.
To be short and clear, if FDev told us we could only have one ship in the game, I would choose the Madalay without hesitation. I think this clearly demonstrates what I think of this ship. o7 Cmdrs and fly dangerously!

This ship has a lot of potential. It’s not limited to just exploration and I’m excited about those other options too. It’s flight dynamics are simply sublime. It’s a joy to fly and, to your point, offers good trade offs between function and max potential jump range. If you have the ARX balance and a burning desire to leave the Bubble far behind, then this ship is a must. o7

Why not put a 5A SCO FSD in??? you would get quite a bit more LY than 60... easy 70+ if you down size the power plant & distributor etc you can easily get into early 80+LY (with engineering)
One of my favorite roles is to rescue pods from combat aftermaths. The biggest issue with the mandy is that with 4 medium ax enhanced multi cannons it doesn't have the dps to defeat 3 Glaives at the same time. My FAS and krait does. Other than that, I love the ship, it's a great bubble taxi and general mission runner.
The only setback for me is the ridiculous kickback when turning the overcharge off. Turn it off at 3 seconds from your destination, it will set you back at around 15 seconds. Turn it off at 2 seconds, you overshoot.
