I'm thinking the same thing too. Watch the price on this particular unit go up. Every anime fan is going to want this thing. I kinda want one now that I think of it...
Anyone who doesn't appreciate this labor of love is either too young to appreciate or too ill informed to understand how significantly convenient it is to have a single behemoth of a MIDI rack that can playback multiple formats of MIDI music by the turn of dials or by bay flicks of switches to enjoy. These individual external MIDI devices were EXPENSIVE back in the day and you were lucky if you could afford even generic solutions that imitated their sounds that were built into store bought PC setups back in the day one at a time...which were also expensive despite the generic price tag. All of these sounds that people find out of taste today will make a major comeback in years to come...mark my words 😇🧐
I was literally counting down the seconds before you played Grabbag on that monster... However, I refused to skip forward due to the quality level of this content. There is something truly magical about these hardware systems and how they generate music. Excellent videos as always.
4:07 Dang. That knob looks great for a print! Some things I might change would be: Putting the MT-32 just below the power switches. Maybe replace the equalizer with a stand-alone spectrum analyzer, since you only want the display anyway. I love this thing, and I'm quite envious.
Just what I needed, just received another Atari ST today, and want to display them with a midi setup in the music studio I'm building, so I can tell to young musicians - in my day this is how we did MIDI :D
Watch this all the way to the credits (or skip to them). th-cam.com/video/MPmr7dlbHm4/w-d-xo.html Even recently people were arguing that the ST has better timing than newer computers which are probably too busy running the Anti-Virus to get the notes out on time.
I didn't always watch the MIDI-centric videos because I much prefer the OP2/3 sound for DOS games. But now that I've got an MT32-Pi, I've been bingeing these specific videos for information. I may not have watched all of them initially, but I definitely appreciate they exist! It's interesting how life circles around.
I found a neat tip. If you want to make your MIDI files sound like a Yamaha MU90 or a Roland JV 1010 you can use FL/LMMS studios and use the “Tyroland” Sound font. It’s a great way to hear MIDI instruments like the ones recorded onto early disc games like Sonic CD, FF7 or Street Fighter 3. It could be useful if you want to hear that old 90’s sound and your on a trip and far away from your MIDI sequencers

My favourite MIDI memories with games was Transport Tycoon on Win95. Man, all the smooth jazz MIDI going on while laying out my train tracks and roads, sending out all my fleets of trucks and busses and trains... Brings back some good memories.
I love finding old electronic music instruments that have midi ports, it’s always fun listening to what different companies drum machines and keyboards come up with, sometimes I find devices that just really know how to party. I love midi sounds, and are salivating over your midi rack that. looks like some serious fucking fun.

When it's running content made for it, the MT-32 is my favorite of the bunch by far. There's just something about that sound I love.
LGR always the best to watch in the morning with a coffee. Thanks for the years of entertainment.

Listening to the Kawai feels like listening to an 80's anime sound track, I fucking want that thing
I'm thinking the same thing too. Watch the price on this particular unit go up. Every anime fan is going to want this thing. I kinda want one now that I think of it...
It's just so cute

This is a top video combining idyllic goals, cable problems, esoteric interests, transparent DIY, educational music stuff and Length. 10/10
Holy crap, I love the sound of that five voice oscillation.
Things I learned: If it says "professional" on the device, then it probably isn't. :-)
At least your equaliser didn’t say „Equaliser“ on the level indicator screen xD
I was literally counting down the seconds before you played Grabbag on that monster... However, I refused to skip forward due to the quality level of this content. There is something truly magical about these hardware systems and how they generate music. Excellent videos as always.
4:07 Dang. That knob looks great for a print!
Some things I might change would be:
Putting the MT-32 just below the power switches.

Watch this all the way to the credits (or skip to them).
th-cam.com/video/MPmr7dlbHm4/w-d-xo.html
Even recently people were arguing that the ST has better timing than newer computers which are probably too busy running the Anti-Virus to get the notes out on time.

So when I was younger, we attended a Church obsessed with Midi, and your setup here would have been "the bees knees" for what they were trying to do
Church people believe in midi? They don't think it's the devil? 😂
Tell me I'm not the only one who shit themselves after seeing that synth set up. Damn LGR, I knew you were a tech nerd, but I didn't know you were a music nerd as well.
Aw man, your videos about forgotten tech and games have so inspired me! It convinced me a few years back to start my own YT channel dedicated to Waterworld, the 1995's cult post-apocalyptic yachting film.
Lol, What?
How much material can you get out of Waterworld? I'mjust curious
@@Ash0512 A ton! There is of course the whole crazy production of the film that I cover (things like how they built the floating city, which my latest video was about), but there is also a lot about the Waterworld Lore as well, including the Kenner Action Figures, The Novelization, The Comic Books, The Video Games, and of course, The Live Stunt Show at four different Universal Studios Theme Parks!
@@TheAtoll Oh cool! I didn’t mean to be rude I was genuinely curious

OH! So *thats* how they made the engine sound effects in those old games. :D
Incidently, it's also how interactive music systems could reflect events in games like X-Wing, which is something of the hidden strengths of midi.
