    You gave me the idea. I went the same way. Same rear shocks, same kit, with a nerf bar rail. I chip tuned my 4.7 though. Spacer for the throttle body with a forced air intake. And a flowmaster makes it look, run & sound good. You started me on my jeeps looks (Thanx)

      I use a Thornton chip. With only premium gas. It adjusts the truck to your driving style. And I put on a sealed, true cold air intake. I'll send a Pic of it all.

    Hey, I know this is an older video, however I was just curious on what tire size you would run instead for the tires so they wouldn’t rub at full lock. I don’t want to get into trimming lol.

    old vid but still important lmao...Hey thanks for actually showing how and what to do so I can get the rear done...I just replaced everything up front, I mean jba uca and lower, ball joints tie rods, struts, clevis bolts...A real pain in the arse...everyone else just fast forwards through it then you are at the mercy of that...I got a WK and took me 16 hours counting store runs and coffee,eating, cigs stuff like that...2.5 inch lift gave me 4 almost 5 inches of lift...its crazy simple but everything in the salt belt is rusted (demon clevis bolt on lower control arm) I ordered two new bolts and it was the wrong one...lots of problems to run into ..its done though posting a vid todayon it...once again man thanks so much!

    Did the same lift and same size tires with no spacers though. I'm satisfied with it since I don't use it for off roading since the huge tires rub and hit everything in the well. 🤤I wish I could do a 4 or 6 inch lift but that would cost way too much to do. Spacers will be the next thing I buy. Great vid my friend!!!

      You need to install extended bump stops so tyres won't rub.

  • @TDRAuto
    @TDRAuto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Little update, vehicle came back from the alignment and it needs adjustable ball joint to correct too negative camber.
    So for anyone doing this project, make sure you do the alignment. Otherwise you can wear your tires out fast and unevenly.

      @Jawad_Muhammad 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TDR Auto thanks for the update. I have 2.5" kit. Haven't installed it yet. Who sells adjustable ball joints ?

    • @TDRAuto
      @TDRAuto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have added the link in the video's description! Thanks! You can do the alignment first and see how much negative the camber is, then install the ball joint. To correct negative camber you basically need to move the top of the knuckle away from the strut.

    I just bought a commander. Lifted with 3 inches in the front. But it makes a rubbing/grinding cranking sound when turning. The previous owner says it's because the lift is too high. So it needs a 2 inch instead of a 3 inch. But another person says I need wheel spacers. What exactly could it be?

    My Jeep is lifted but the front tiers keep rubbing on the wheel barrow when I turn any solutions you might recommend

  • @je1966
    @je1966 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I put that kit on the front and I had to remove it because if the width of the lift spacers is 2", the vehicle rises much more, since the front strut assembly rests on the middle of the lower suspension arm, not on the wheel hub.
    Then hit the transmission axle in the fork when the suspension is extended.
    I put another system (heavymetal suspensions) changing for a longer forks.
    And to correct camber, I use JBA Upper A-arms for lifted WK/XK

    • @d.mclean6300
      @d.mclean6300 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J E just clarifying that with the installation of the 2” lift the stance also changes, and the front no longer rests lower than the rear. I’ve attempted once already to install this lift, which is sitting in my garage in the box. I got as far as removing the lower clevis bolt( lower strut fork) bolt and it seemed to be overly seized, I did soak it with lubricant for serval days and was still unable to beat the bolt loose.. Any Inputs Please?

    • @paulgenzale7775
      @paulgenzale7775 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@d.mclean6300 I just did mine. Call jeep and order 2 new bolts and nuts and save the headache. As for removing, I had to cut the bolts out. Then the whole bushing sleeve came out which basicly renders the lower control arm shot. So pending on miles and where your located (mine was 136k miles and from the north east, with the ammount of disassembly, maybe new lower control arms are the way to go. That's what I did. It added like 250 bucks to the project cost but I plan on keeping my commander indefinitely so it was a worth wild investment in my opinion

    TDR Auto, what is the modification to the wheel wells that is needed with this lift? RC recommends 265/70R17 tires with this lift kit, which is what you used. So I am wondering what modification was needed? Could it be because you used aftermarket wheels and not the stock Jeep wheels to put the 265/70R17 tires on (this could cause a different offset if the new wheel package did not match the stock offset)? I am about to do this exact job next week and want to be prepared for anything unexpected.

    • @TDRAuto

      Those wheels are 17x9 and offset -6 with 1 inch spacers.
      The owner cut off bit of the rear wheel wells and had to hammer the pinch wall behind it completely flat. We removed and bypassed the rear coolant lines as well.

      This is not a job for a beginner. One of the main problems with suspension work is seized bolts and stuff, and you need to know some tricks of the trade and have a good armoury of tools to deal with them. Eg I have a 3/4" socket drive set that I often resort to using.

      Sometimes it will go back with patience and trying align the shaft. In some cases you would need to remove the large clam, pull the boot and align the 3 bearings with the shaft in to the cages. Sometimes you can reuse the clam with clamp pliers or side cutters. Or get new clamp - not a warm clamp, should be low profile.

      My friend did the research and requested this work. He never heard replacing control arms with 2" lift. You do need adjustable ball joints or control arms to correct the camber though if it's out of spec.

    Hello, great video!!
    I did a 2.25 lift on my 2006 Commander about 8 years ago! I just finished putting new struts, JBA upper control arms , lower control arms, sway bar links, bushings, and tie rod ends in the front. I replaced shocks and sway bar links in the back. Does the rear of your Jeep Commander sit lower than the front?? Before I did all this work, myJeep sat very even, now it sits lower in the back. I was thinking coil springs, but the dealer can only get the right side🤔and the left side has been discontinued?? Any thoughts??
    👍🏻👍🏻

      Removing front wheel liners and either cuting the pinch welded body seams or hammer them flat - not pretty. On the right side removing or relocating the heater and or AC lines, basicaly bypassing the rear climate control. You might get away with some bending and repositioning of heater hose clams.

    These XK look best with 6 inches of lift with 35's. Not too practical, but that's how to make them look as good as a H2 Hummer. Grand Cherokees WK of the same model year can get by with much less lift and look great

      I'd go with one of the numbers lower. Like 255/70/17 or 265/65/17 or 265/70/16. Check Discount Tire's website for tire size calculator!
