OMG. The 80s where my most prosperous & abundant years. I finally had money to spend on myself (it was downhill after that 😂) . So many memories here. Thank you.
My favorite item was a 1964 Cadillac limo . 2,000 dollars and goes for 36,000 now. The 80s were a great difference from the 70s . I sure enjoyed the 80s decade and sold a lot of vintage items .
Whenever I watch one of Doris' videos, I always finish feeling smarter, more informed, and more intrigued by the topic. She gives just enough to send you on a journey of your own 💗
I absolutely _ADORE_ vintage jewelry! I've been collecting since I started going to thrift shops in the mid 90's when I was a teenager. I used to have a ton more than I do now, as most of my more valuable pieces were stolen. That just broke my heart... I'm rebuilding slowly, but so many of them were one of a kind.
Can I just save all the amazing treasures and beautiful things that you've shown us that you Doris are our best treasure ever thank you so much for what you do and just know you are a treasured all that we all cherish
08:01 it happens to me on a local fair two sundays ago, i buy a bunch of shinny things to embroid to a trench coat (thank u to introduce me to the fabulous work of embroidery months ago) and one of these things is covered in gold. And thanks again for share all this, it sounds silly but i started to wear jewelry (and do it myself upcycling and recycling) because of ur videos. Also im in this project about the trench coat since u show all those pieces months ago. It has beads of all shapes and forms hand sewn creating faces, creatures of the ocean of my imagination and lyrics of David Bowie and Patti Smith. I have at least one year and a half more of work (the length is up to my knees) so maybe i can show it to you when its finished if u want, its all bc of the education u spread here, so thanks Doris. cheers from Uruguay
august Hi August! I would love to see what you are creating. Email me directly: doris@thewaywewore.com I love your country and would love to visit again when its safe to travel again. I spent a few days at Finca Narbona and wanted to spend more time in Montevideo. Hoping I can visit again soon. So happy to know you have been inspired by my videos. That was and is my intention. If I can be of service to you- please write. Thanks for your interest. Sorry I don’t speak Spanish. ☹️ Be safe & be well Doris
Pandemic 2020 is our century's version of the Great depression era. People are out of work. Businesses are thriving. People were dying.but shows like Doris' is a great reminder that times like this can come and go like fashion. Let's just get the best out of it.stay happy and safe
I'm so glad I ran into your channel again. I started watching them again...Wonderful. A couple years ago I started making my own jewelry, cutting and pasting pieces of vintage jewelry, because I also sell vintage costume jewelry and there are so many broken or nearly destroyed pieces. I feel that it is better to save these pieces rather than sending them to the mine field. One fine day I viewed a video and discovered that a famous designer of costume jewelry used the same process, except I use E-6000 glue. I could never find the video again and you have graciously provided it for me, Wendy Gell. I gave up looking on my own. I would love to send you pictures of some of my creations. Not to sell but get your educated and time-tested opinion. I've written you a few times before about your amazing store, unique knowledge and videos and you graciously responded. Your dedication is virtually unmatched and I'm a fan.
Really enjoy your wide range of knowledge....im 70 years old and a life long fashion watcher and a your encyclopedic knowledge is refreshing....i am going to suggest your site to the many young women I watch thrifting on TH-cam who could benefit from your teachings...thank you...
I was told by a older jeweler that during the depression many top jewelers couldn't find work and had to secure employment with costume jewelry companies . That is why the pieces are so well done.
Hi Melba!!!! Thank you for binge-watching our videos and for taking the time to comment on most of them. I feel your passion! I won’t reply to all your comments but please know I have read them and am grateful. Thanks so much for your interest!! Doris
I know I've seen this video before I don't care I just love to watch it and re-watch it just such great information and beautiful things to see and the lovely Doris
I have the large round gold with white pearl center. It’s one of the Chanel jewelry pieces that were given to Me by the display department at Bullocks Wilshire in the early 1980s. They are heavy.
Thank you for sharing information on some designers I'm not familiar with. I'd heard of Lunch at the Ritz, but didn't know much about the brand. Keep up the great work!
You look stunning Doris Love costume jewellery it’s a mood enhancer and it always fits I have a number of B&W pieces and have gifted many over the years They are fun and well made x Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 xx
I have a Wendy Gell wide cuff bracelet that I purchased in 1980. I still love it!!! Every piece is unique and beautiful. Inside the cuff is her signature engraved.
Love this channel! I would be interested in seeing more from the 1970s, like Holly Harp or Sant Angelo or something like that. I love clothing from that era. Thanks for all that you do!

I love this episode Doris. And also, being originally from Panama, it was really nice to see the Pellegrina Pearl on Liz, since that pearl is also originally from my country.
Thank you so much for this video - it's helped me identify a piece in my collection. I received some Chanel earrings from my grandmother after her passing, which looked to be about 80's or 90's (and are very, very similar in style to your black & gold logo clip-ons featured), but felt too similar to costume jewelry [despite the engraving on the back] that I didn't think it was authentic, because I didn't even know Chanel produced such a line outside of fine jewels. I love all of the content you all put out and the wonderful history lessons you all provide
Hi Doris, I couldn't quite make out what you recommended to newer vintage buyers, would you mind writing it out? Additionally I wanted to say that I absolutely love costume jewlery. As a plus sized girl who loves vintage, costume jewlery is an awesome option! I don't have the budget/body to purchase clothes from your store but I will definitely buy costume jewlery if you post it on your website and I'm sure I'm not the only one! Either way I'm happy to support your business by watching your videos 😉😍
Thanks so much for this. My Mother was an accessory diva and she loved "good" stuff! Little difficult for a farmer's wife...but she persevered finding alternatives. She made the statement, "Just because I can work side-by-side with your Daddy in the field...he wants me to look good "in town"!.
I've started my business a couple of years ago and I have a fantastic collection of jewellery so I can imagine yours! I was born in Prague, and of course, grew up with 'costume' jewellery all around as Czechoslovakia was the main export since the early 20th century. I live in England now, and the Czechoslovakian jewellery is still everywhere I look! It's not labelled, but you can recognise is right away. Thank you for the lovely video.
I love Glow. And as a child I was sometimes allowed to watch Dynasty. And of course Cyndi Lauper - I'm happy to see more over the top again. As always, thank you for the work you put into these episodes. It's a pleasure to see and hear you talk.
Years ago I was allowed to do the costume buying for my sisters store ( still in business Gemini Boutique ) . There was a gifted guy in Philadelphia who made his own pieces . His line was called Red Cobra , believe his name may be Frank Giodonio . I still have a beautiful pair of earrings he made that have flowers with green leaves that move . I believe that they are sewed onto the backings . Alas I only have one earring that he made that is a round lucite ball with a Cupid face looking out from the inside of the earring . Can’t part with it ! Thanks Doris love your videos !
Love love this display and history. Doris you are the best!! I wonder if the Chanel earrings can be converted to pierced. Has anyone ever done this!? My daughter-in-law loved her Dolce Cabana green tweed beret! ❤️🤗👍
L mae What a sweet mother-in-law!! Honestly I think the weight of most Chanel earrings is too much for conversion. Is there a pair you have your eye on? I can let you know. We have a good jeweler in the Valley but doing that ruins the value for a future sale. Hope all is well in your world Thanks for your support and kind words. Doris
Åh Doris, this is so f-ing gorgeous 🤩🥰🤪Do you wear your 20th ring? Curious about how it looks ❣Huge fan cause you are one of a kind. Virtual hugs from a rainy Norrland i Sverige🤗💞💗💞
Doris, I have learned so much from you. I appreciate your videos so much, I recently read about your store being looted and I am so sorry you're having to deal with that. ❤️❤️
I used to buy costume jewelry called 1928 it was beautiful. I was actually wondering if the one designer you showed the one that had beautifully crafted ones with a pink rose was a designer for them.
Love this! I’d be interested in learning about 1920’s costume jewelry. I bought a set of “flapper” beads and I’d like to keep collecting pieces from this period. Thanks for your fascinating channel!
Howdy Corene. We will be posting them in the website very soon. I believe they were priced $225 in the store but we marked them down to $175. Do you want better images or a PayPal invoice? Please Email the store : thewaywewore@sbcglobal.net Thanks for your interest! Doris
Thank you so much Doris, love this episode but love them all! Some of the really flamboyant stuff reminded me of Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous. Do you plan on discussing vintage scents at all? How I miss the original formula of Chanel No 19!
Hi Erica. I don’t have any knowledge of perfumes. So sorry- unless I get a guest that can take over- it’s not something will be happening soon. Thanks for taking the time to comment. We appreciate your interest and support! Doris
Doris is so sincere. Her love of fashion comes from her heart. She is kind and caring.
She’s certainly a gift!
Always so humble and not only teaches but learns from guests .

Hi Dee.
HUGE compliment. Thanks! 😁
Doris
Betsey Johnson is another one who made fabuloulsly over-the-top costume jewelry! xoxo
Megan Osborn and Pat Fields. She did the costumes for a movie I worked on in the 80s made of green army men.
And she obviously doesn't follow trends and is her own unique person!
@@marylhere Ummm, I'd absolutely LOVE to see that!!! link??
I was waiting for her to mention Betsey :/
Natalie 1982 the bracelet may be in scenes from the movie (bad bad cinema) Lady Beware. I remember it being in the costume trailer.

Bea Arthur wore, on "The Golden Girls", these Golden Chanel earrings, quite frequently, actually. I WANTED THEM SOOOOO BADLY!!!!
Can I just save all the amazing treasures and beautiful things that you've shown us that you Doris are our best treasure ever thank you so much for what you do and just know you are a treasured all that we all cherish
I love Chanel...I love how iconic and classic the accessories are. So timeless
Love this episode.

I'm so pleased you said things from the 80s are coming back. I have some things I bought new back then. I must fish them out. Thank you, Doris.
I have the large round gold with white pearl center. It’s one of the Chanel jewelry pieces that were given to Me by the display department at Bullocks Wilshire in the early 1980s. They are heavy.

I love this!! I collect costume jewelry from the ‘40 and ‘50’s. Love all jewelry from the early movies.
I love your show, been watching since when it was on smithsonion channel!!
