Doris, I could listen to you talk for hours.I love how you present your information with such affection, and knowledge. Please stay safe, and thank you for your much awaited videos. Cindy
Pearls make every woman prettier. Of all the gemstones, they seem to flatter the most. They can be worn day or night, casual or dressy, and elevate any look. When I was a young girl someone gave me an add-a-pearl necklace and each year another tiny pearl was added. Somehow over the years I lost that sweet necklace! In any case, today I have a lovely one that’s a staple in my wardrobe. It’s only a single strand but of fine quality and the right size for my features. When I drape it around my neck and look in the mirror, I’m always reminded of how flattering pearls are.
I'm from scotland and been watching you for a long time now, all started with the Smithsonian episodes and now your own channel. Your doing great job with the knowledge being shared and onsite to these special collections you have
Ahh... Nothing like clam spit! So I make costume jewelry and I have had to repair and update alot of vintage pieces. I can truly say that within my recollection, I have never had to fix or repair any Haskell Jewelry.
Pearls go with everything. They are both for day and evening wear and are elegant. I love your Victorian set, Doris, especially the brooch. Thank you for sharing and staying safe.
Hello!!! I LOVE my pearls. I’m from Mississippi and my grandmother bought me my first strand. Then my mother bought my daughter her first strand (at birth with a gold ring with a tiny diamond). She had her first photos taken (almost 3 months old) wearing bloomers with laced edging and her jewelry.
I am a new fan of Miriam Haskell. The craftsmanship and detail of her pieces are unlike any other type of costume jewelry I've ever come across, so I am not surprised she is considered the top costume jeweler. Thank you for sharing a bit more about her jewelry with us!
@@heymarey150 Diamonds are flashy and can come across as, "Look at me!" while pearls have a quiet beauty that grows on you the longer you look at it :)
And never think about my mother's Miriam Haskell earrings until you mention them. I think they're from the 40s and they are lovely the pearls still look wonderful. 💯😁💥Lovely to see you Doris. That was my mother's name by the way Doris. 🙄✨💕
Another interesting and informative video, thank you Doris! This may be an odd request, but would you ever consider doing a video about sequins/featuring heavily sequined garments? Lately I've been obsessed with them and have been hand stitching them on to just about everything lately, I'm just obsessed with the sparkle. Unfortunately though, I rarely see them worn. I was wondering if you might have any interesting sequin pieces in your collection, and if you do I'd love to see and learn more about them!
Doris have the most soft and sweet voice ever !!! I totally imagine her reading kids books, beside this amazing videos. XoXoXo from Chile 🇨🇱😊💕 the skinny and large country at the end of the world.
Love Miriam Haskell works. Frank Hess was great as well. Loved her WWII designs when she used only organic material because metals were needed for the war effort.
Fashion and jewelry is the best non-fattening way to ease my stress, so I thank Doris and company so much for continuing to make content for The Way We Wore. Maybe do a semi-precious stones theme in costume jewelry? Marcasite jewelry (usually in art deco designs) is one of my favorites, but onyx, malachite, jade and chalcedony are also great visuals for jewelry themes.
Wonderful and greetings from Guernsey Channel Islands UK. We are a small island between UK and France xxx I absolutely adore all your work and episodes on here. You are eclectic and wonderfully inspirational. I love the history of all these episodes x Such a joy🥰🥰😣💃💖
Its crazy,or I am just getting old. Lol as a teenager ( I am now 49) my mother and me use to find Haskell, Trafari,Coro aplenty in the thrift stores in the late 80s. I was the ood girl out at school because you would often find me wearing that jewelry. I loved it! I would even wrap long strings of Pearl's around my ankle with sandals, tshirt and shorts. Thank you for the segment.
I pass through Providence all the time. Totally going to the bead warehouse in Providence now 😳 I’m so glad you show the insides of garments and backs of pieces!
Dear Doris, got my very first Miriam Haskell earrings from your shop, and they are definitely my favorite of all time. Thank you for making this video. Love ❤️ from Taiwan!
Thank you for a wonderful video! I would have enjoyed seeing close-up views of each piece on the display table. Further, I would have enjoyed hearing the story behind each piece’s acquisition.
Thank you for showing us the back of those pieces, sometimes it is even more interesting than the front. Also, thank you for your videos, I'm always eager to watch new episode.
Haskell pieces are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I enjoy your clips tremendously! I have myself a collection of almost 2,000 pieces of antique ethnic (mainly silver) jewelry from the Middle East, former Ottoman occupied Eastern Europe, Russia and Caucasian region, Iraq and Central Asia. A fine selection of this jewelry will be exhibited soon in a reputable German museum... Many world renowned designers and fashion houses are using the old ethnic jewelry designs in their designs. During my collection frenzy, I have already met fashion house owners who are sharing the same “addiction”...

Oh, this was my favourite episode so far! I have a very old ornate Haskell brooch but a tiny bead fell off. Now I know why- it was the brass wire that failed. My husband bought it for me from a NYC woman who worked in fashion beginning in the 1930's, and retired to the city I live in. in Wa. state. I have lost touch w. her, but she would now be in her 90's.
Thank you again for another delightful interlude where reality is suspended and we get to listen to your delightful voice and all the wonderful information and passion that you have to share. I collect vintage handbags, 30s-80s,very structured and classic and although I don’t often wear them, they bring me absolute joy as I have them displayed in my walk-in closet (to keep them safe from light and temperature changes) for my own enjoyment. I agree, if you are going to collect, you must love what you collect with a passion. Thank you (again) for all your time and effort in creating such excellent videos. Cheers
Fascinating. I learned a lot. New names to research. I am so tired of men in suits ruining the world so it’s a delight to hear about another woman who made her mark. It makes me think of Eileen Gray who created her own store to sell her work. Thank you.

Thank you for making these videos! They are so informative and a welcome distraction from worrying about all that is going on.
I love pearls. Just starting my own collection.
Pearls are timeless❤️
Hey Doris, Another amazing show, another great topic for me to research & know. Thanks for another top knot notched episode
LOVE the pearls! Thanks for bringing us this video!
Beyond in love with the necklace that is in the show box. It had a necklace two broaches, earrings. Are any or all of the pieces for sale? If so, I am interested.
