So glad you are doing great. Love your vlogs, l have learned, through you, how to really look and appreciate not just vintage clothing, but what I currently own. Thank you Doris!
Love love love! This episode, I have had a secret passion for lamè since I was a child, getting lost in the seamstresses house :) My grandmother remarried and had a beautiful Edwardian? I'm going to say style dress that she had altered for her wedding day and it had the most beautiful two tone lamè. She just passed away this week and I would love to have her dress but I have several aunts who I'm sure one of them will claim it. I was lucky enough to have dressess made for me by a seamstress when I was young but I was aware that none of my friends had that experience. They got all their dresses from department stores. It was a dying trend definitely but really got me into appreciation for fashion and the process of making wonderful things from fabric and thread. Glad to see you are looking so much brighter and happier Doris, I look forward to these episodes so much. So Thank you so much for sharing!
So glad you are succesfully on the road to recovery! We really enjoy your channel and are so thrilled to see that we arent the only ones crazy for glam! Keep on shining dear Doris! We love you!
oh my gosh i’ve been rewatching the clips from the smithson channel for YEARS just to find you have a youtube channel. i’m so incredibly happy to find this, Doris you are and will forever be a role model to me i love you 💕
I just want to show gratitude to you Doris because your videos are so informative, I learn something new every time I watch you. you're one of the caregivers of history and I truly believe that if it weren't for people like you we wouldn't be able to look back and see all the skills and craftsmanship that has journeyed us to today. After all, fashion is a timestamp of history.
I was just catching up on your last few videos, I can't believe you are looking so well after brain surgery! Your goodness and strength shines through as always Doris, thank you for all you do and the time you put into these videos for all our enjoyment. Wishing you full steam ahead to a full recovery.
Doris my fascination with lame started as a child. I grew up in Australia in the biggest tourist hot spot in the country back then called Surfer’s Paradise on the Gold Coast. The council brought in paid parking via parking metres in the mid 1960s. Local businesses got together to figure out how to get around this problem so they employed beautiful young women, put them in gold lame bikinis & gave them each a bucket of 6 pence coins and they would walk around town in twos putting the coins in the parking metres & topping them up. It would never fly today of course but those girls looked so glamorous when I was small. 😂 and the business owners were happy, the girls were happy- they became nationally famous initially and then icons, the tourists were happy because they didn’t have to worry about a fine & the council was sort of happy. So gold lame = glamour & happy to me.
Thank you Doris, good to see you looking so great. Especially loved this one as I have an interest in the design from the early part of the 20C, clothes so distinct in form and fabric ❤
