    Loved the Mae West dresses, she had great taste, what a woman as well a real rebel and a trailblazer. I heard an anecdote that she used to go window shopping for dresses in LA in the early hours of the morning so she wouldn't get swamped by fans and the police once pulled her over because they didn't know who she was and thought she was a burglar scoping the stores out.
    Wonderful video as usual Doris, thank you.

    • @gloriahanes6490
      @gloriahanes6490 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      True story ... Mae West did like to go window shopping late, late, late at night, and she would later call the store the next morning and order what she liked, and had her driver go and pick up the dresses and pay for them.

    I love so much that you guys have this channel. One, because it's so nice to have an adult woman's voice in the fashion section (most bloggers are in their 20's-30's maybe), and two, because anything that focuses on the history of fashion instead of consumerism is great. I personally love all of the pieces that Doris picks, although the costumes are also super fun. I live in LA and I would love to come and visit your store!! I really love your channel and the more that you guys do the more I'm sure people will watch. Truly inspiring and fun.
    One video I would REALLY love to see you guys do is on restoring/cleaning older pieces. I've recently gotten into vintage clothing/preloved clothing and I'm interested in particular how to care for shoes, and heavily worn pieces.

    Doris, you are a woman of uncommon strength. There is no way I would have been able to control myself around original Erte's. (I repeated & paused often thru that section.)
    I'm local-ish to Beach Blanket Babylon. Those costumes, specifically the hats, are a wonder! They make excellent use of rolling IV carts & custom back braces. Sadly, the show is closing at the end of the year. I do hope the costumes, especially the San Francisco skyline hat, go to a museum where they can be visited.

    FYI as an Australian most of the famous clothes Olivia sold went into breast cancer research and the hospital In Australia named after her.... She wasn't born in the city of Melbourne but a hospital in her honor was built for anyone to go to if they have cancer. It not only offers normal medicines but alternative therapies too and I hear it is very good. Olivia became ill when visiting Aus and she had to disguise herself as she was treated at the hospital with her name on it and she wanted to be treated like everyone else with no special star treatment. Good on her.

    I could listen to Doris talk about clothes all day. I'd love to pick her brain of all the knowledge she has!

    Wow! Altogether, jacket, slacks and boots ol' Sandy raked in half-a-mil. So much for 'Look at me I'm Sandra Dee!' God love Olivia Newton John😎, queen of all that's cool and terribly sweet! As Mae West said: "Oooo, it's better to be looked over than to be overlooked" 😁

    Your uploads are for me living in Melbourne, Australia, akin to rare, glittering jewels. We seldom have access to treasures such as featured in your uploads albeit through touring museum exhibitions and the like. Thank you for sharing, it's much appreciated.

    Erte is a favorite of mine. I was really hoping for a Doris Raymond success. Sadly, I was not surprised by the results. I once tried to online bid at a celebrity auction (Elizabeth Taylor collection @ Christie's). The items I was interested in (2pairs of art deco earrings and a classic black dress) sold for many times their actual value, waaay out of my range. Prices of items owned/worn by celebrities combined with well-known designers are subject to economics that is almost 50% based on emotion and personal status along with the usual traits of beauty and quality. Even so auctions do interest me, would love to see more in the fashion and accessories area not necessarily celebrity-oriented.

    What an amazing show! In Japan, Doris would be designated a national living treasure. Us fans know she is that already here!

    Amazing prices but then there are lots of rich people who can easily afford them. I hope they loan their pieces freely to museums. Thank you for another interesting presentation. Looking forward to more. Thank you.
