What I do is use it only for model that look like they break as soon as I touch them, and I use cheaper but still amazing resin for sturdier models ! The answer if they break is to spend $6 on resin instead of $3! People mix tough or ABS like resin in. Compared to GW pricing, it wouldn’t be that expensive to use full bottles of the best resin!
You can get some very durable results from using the basic ABS-Like resin mixed with about 15% of the expensive Sirayatech Tenacious resin. It averages out to about $30/kg for the mixed stuff and it works great.

water washable is incredibly brittle. After years I made the switch to ABS-like now that IPA is down in price again. I would suggest for prints with fiddly bits, just undercure them in the cleanup step but don't waste any time getting them primed. Cure as much as you can until the part starts to give resistance to moving. Once they're sealed in a layer of primer you're not really touching the resin at that point. Just don't eat the things and use care before they're primed.

Thanks and have fun with it 😁 Necrons in plastic are so much easier to build with plastic glue and not worry about breaking when dry brushing, don't see the point in resin minis for them 👍
Printed a nice tyranid army to test out and go with my old lead Eldar for my son to paint and use. GWprices were a little prohibitive, but printing made it viable.
I buy 3D prints, but generally of the models that never seam to be in GW stock. The only time that I have brought 3D printed models when they were available from GW was the dwarf 'Iron Bolt' blood bowl team, as those models looked super cool!
I’ve not tried 3d printing but it’s an obvious tool and definitely something to make use of occasionally. Wise words from you in terms of picking where it’s most appropriate
I'd suggest go with whatever faction and models you like the look of / idea of. Starting off get things that bring you joy then you are more like to paint and play them. What type of game play do you like, shooty? Punchy? Fast? Bit of everything? Do you like the poster boys Space Marines, do you want to be a goodie or daddy, or do you like aliens and monsters? 😊
Honestly with the ongoing GW stock issues, 3d printing is sometimes the only way to get an army you want! Old world and HH are perfect examples. Highland miniatures must be making a killing with their well-made lines. Next month is goblin month for them and I'm very interested!
I know ! They will be doing great and GW aren't competing as most things aren't available. What they do have available from AOS range has been made legends by them! HH is just as bad, most tmof the time as you say 3D printing is the only option
At the rate I build and paint, and with the ammount of backlog I have, I wouldnt need to 3d print anything for years. Actually, I do want to 3d print some bits because I do a lot of restoring used and broken minis. Is there a really tiny super easy to use super cheap thing I could get for that? Or would I be better off just getting stuff printed for a fee by my lgs?
I've done a video about not 3d printing, the idea to get someone to do it for you lol... if you know someone just ask them and lob a little money their way.... I've done that for a channel member before 😅 I think there are small printers but not that good but you can get entry level ones that are ace. Still < £300 all in to get going
My brother has a resin 3D printer, I'm having him print me some bits so I can maximize some of my Tyranids boxes and do some kitbashes. That experiment is most likely what will help me decide to get into 3DWH40K. Fingers crossed for the give away!
I really want to get into 40k but I just don't have the money. Also kinda confused on how to actually build an army. But I've only gotten interested last week
If you have a 3D printer you can get into warhammer more cheaply bit factoring in the price of the kit it's pretty even with a 1st army. Might be a longer chat than through a message but best chatting about armies with people and getting a demo game in a store, the GW chaps are ace at intros, that's how I started 😁
Been looking into 3d printing after noticing GW profit margin is nearly 5 times higher than bandai and amazon(MADNESS) and your videos have been helpful!
Congratulations on the subscriber milestone. As someone who doesn't play games competitively neither WYSIWYG nor official models are ever really a consideration for me, and I find assembly of modern GW kits to be obnoxious to the point of off-putting due to unnecessarily cut up parts designed to counter recasters. I've got piles of kits that I just don't have the willpower to endure assembling just to make a monopose model that will be repeated 4+ times in an army. 3d prints frequently come with no or minimal assembly making a much more enjoyable experience for me. in short GW are driving me away from their models (which are no better sculpts than many 3d prints) to the 3D printing market with their pricing and kit design.
Yes, I didn't really discuss the point much that 3D prints do often come with minimal assembly making them much quicker to get on the table ! The thought of building 18 bloodcrushers from GW fills me with dread lol
I'm half way through painting a 50/50 mix of printed and GW Tyranids. Just wish there was water washable high strength resin I knocked a knight off of my desk and every delicate detail was destroyed.
Interestingly enough for me. I still haven't covered my costs in savings by 3D printing before you would consider any labor time or working with hazard chemicals. Granted if you have free time in life in abundance you certainly don't have to put labor into the equation. Most of my FW prints were FW models that got culled in 10th but there are still a few things that I have that are playable. The best use is for models that are excessive on a per unit basis AdMech & guard walkers. Beasts of Nurgle & this type. I find I haven't cut my spending on Warhammer as much as I hoped from 3D printing. I also find 3D prints break easier but once you can print them replacement cost isn't bad but they are far less durable in general. Maybe there are resins that would fix that, I haven't gone that far down the path of resolution of easily broken 3D printed models. GW grey plastic really does hold up well to drops and accidents compared to other mediums. The working with hazardous chemicals that you don't want to breathe or touch is no small element. I have a local gamer who had to give up 3D printing to developing or having severe reaction to being around resin. 99% isopropyl is also a substance to be considered about storing from flammability. It does make a home owner a bit of a chemist as far as increased risks and potential issues. My conclusion is a cheap decent quality 3D printer will probably pay out especially if you are not short on the time involved in printing. which the time isn't really a big factor when things are printing correctly. I went for a more expensive larger higher quality printer because at the end of the day I wanted to try it out and not be short on the quality level I want. I learned after the fact a cheaper 4K would probably have done fine for most things I ended up printing.
I haven't even thought about recouping the cost 🙈 haha having too much fun... but I need to investigate better resins, as you say GW plastic survives bad handling. I chose water washable resin which is a bit better but you do become a chemist and have a responsibility to not flush old resin ! I'm lucky I haven't had any reactions to it yet
I print for One Page Rule and it's incredibly cost effective and I can make exactly what I want. I made firstborn blood angels with primaris size and I really enjoy it.
Don't know about those 2 platforms but people do it all the time on Etsy. Depends whether you have permissions to resell, often creatures of stl's have special arrangements with resellers
@SimplyWarhammer absolutely. I see modeling for advantage isn't the rule of cool. Luckily, in the tournaments I've been in, it's not a thing that I've seen. One of my favorite models I've seen was a fully fabricated stompa.
I personally don't even think about modelling for advantage when looking at an opponents customised or kitbashed army... defo right made size is needed though
Eldar titan was non resin right? I know you lose some details but i wouldnt mind durability so ill try just non resin for oldworld dwarfs hope they ll look somehow good.
I've been a patreon of Highland Miniatures for a long time and have their complete lines including a few limited Frontiers. You should find better resin to use. ABS-like resin is best for wargaming resins
might be late asking here but how bad is smell and is it loud also dose it cost a lot in power bill. i spend way to much on warhammer so i like the 3d printing idea but live in a small-ish flat so unsure if its for me
With water washable and the airfilters it's not that bad a smell. I leave it running overnight and the family and I sleep fine with the noise. I use ppe like mask and gloves when I'm handling directly with the lid off, it really isn't a problem being in a small area. The things I've learned since is its worth spending on less brittle resin and hollowing big bits out saves money but at the risk of strength and you need holes for internal drainage ☺️
@@SimplyWarhammer awesome, thanks for replying. I think I will get one. I've seen sales on them before so will grab one after doing a bit of research into my choices Cheers

@@SimplyWarhammer ill do the rough math real quick. For a 10 hour print where 1/3 of the time is spent running the UV light, its about 20 cents of electricity at average residential prices in the US.

I agree and only hope you are right about the growth 😉 poor stock, fomo releases and legends are all reasons people choose to print more now than ever.... also the amazing quality and affordability of printers!
@SimplyWarhammer I use PLA. Tons of open license materials in thingiverse for printing. Just pulled a bunch of drums and crates off the printer this afternoon.
They use resin now? or they use polystyrene to make 40k original figures? also theres a big dif between figures right? 40k are more detail of course they have better equipment.
Yer the majority of GW models are plastic, some lesser used / older kits or ones from the old Forgeworld division are still resin based. For the best quality minis when 3D printing yourself resin is the only way to go at the moment. In terms of detail GW models in general are fantastic just expensive. The 40k range is great but the model ranges for Age of Sigmar are perhaps even more impressive but you can just use them in 40k 👍
@@SimplyWarhammer 3d printing looks really fun! what type of printer you think gw use for their figures? idk nothing about 40k lol. I was triying to get in to it, but as soon i saw the prices i run fast.
I'm not sure what kit GW use, but they only use actually 3D printers like we can get hold of in house for prototyping and the like. The actualy plastic kits are injection moulded and super expensive to create !

I like the idea of printing my own stuff with all the variation and some of the scenery is amazing but honestly I'm far too lazy, I'd buy it all and then not bother :-)
You can just print out on card paper and fold them up. If you really want to play the game. So it's never about the game. It's about playing with the models that you can be proud of.
Nice Channel 🤘 Abo set🍻 I love my 3D printer. now two pieces, an Anycubic Photon mono 4k and an X2. I think another larger model will be added this year. With the exception of a few models from the new 40k starter box, I printed all of my Tyranids myself for free thanks to Cults3d, except for the resin. The latest model is a Warlord Titan. Scaled a little smaller because I couldn't get parts 1-1 onto my printing plate of the X2. is it worth printing? I'll lean out a little and definitely say YES I completely understand that Games Workshop is now getting a bit thick about it, but personally I can't afford to put 1200 euros on the table for a Warlord Titan. my wife would kill me. I'm honest, other models from the store aren't worth the money to me either. Of course I still buy some things, but now I have a lot to print out on my hard drive. If Games Workshop or Forge World were to lower the prices a bit, that would certainly be welcomed. But now I prefer to invest 50 euros a month for the water-washable resin from Anycubic and print myself. You can get a lot of miniatures and accessories out of one bottle. and the quality is, in my opinion, really wonderful.
I'm currently working on a fully 3D printed other than My librarian and my two dreadnoughts and my rhino for my custom grey knights army and I'm currently at 460 points if I don't include My librarian and my kaldor Drago proxy dreadnought and my rhino out of cardboard because I only play with my brother and his friends and once every great while at my LGS because the guy who owns the shop literally has a fully 3D printed 10,000 point army and they are beautiful even though they are orks. And even though my brother only pays $35 for a bottle of resin I don't know what brand he gets where the company is but I've never had a problem with the resin and I currently have a kill team of sisters of battle that all have cyber Valkyrie wings and their armor is designed to look like that and when not playing kill team I have them counting as seraphim and zephiram squads But the fact that I have a strike squad an interceptor squad and a brotherhood Terminator squad and my brother said the cost of the resin not including electricity for the printer or the curing machine that uses the UV lights or the cost of the isopropyl alcohol I've spent less than $10 for three squads of grey knights a proxy for caldor Drago and two five man squads for the sisters of battle being roughly about another $3 so I've spent 13.00 on 26 miniatures and I cannot count My librarian because that is actually a dark Angels Terminator that I repainted
That's brilliant, it's ace how cheap it is and nice work finding a resin that isn't too brittle for you. Jealous of your group and local shop that don't worry about the models, the rule of cool wins 😁 nice 💪
is that a real technique, does it mess up the prints though ? Got something else to look into now lol although not sure I have the setup for such technical things 😆
This was with a resin printer and better resin that is more expensive would improve it. If you mean an FDM printer so the hard indestructible plastic, they are good but you can't get the quality on miniatures 👍
You're a fool if you don't invest in a 3d printer. Not only for saving money, but GW constantly runs out of stock. Resin is never out of stock. The models you can print look much better also than those designed by GW.
@@SimplyWarhammer yeah i just found out, im trying to build my printing setup ( one fdm, one resin) and im deciding between saturn 3 ultra or mars 4 ultra + neptun 4 max ^^
Our group has been playing for 20+ years together. We're all retired IT guys who've spent literally thousands of dollars each buying models. We recently purchased 2 3D printers after Warhammer and GW decided to rewrite the lore to conform to their woke narrative. We'll not only print our own models, but design them too. Everyone has a custom built campaign map, so there's no need to go to shops or tournaments anymore. We're just going to go our own way.
It's literally cheaper to buy a printer and print them yourself. So fuck GW for their insane prices for little plastic men and just print them instead, don't give GW your money.

Thanks very much 😊😁 amd thanks for the advice, I'll check it out 👍
Good video. I am not planning on pronting myself, but it's nice to have the perspective
Cheers, I've loved it so far lol
Great video! I have considered it for some time now, so it was nice with some solid perspectives 👍
Cool thanks, also checkout my video about all the key things I've learned in printing too 😁
Love it dude printing is same for me I have certain gw stuff and will always support them but also Enjoy printing and changing armies up whenever I want
Yer exactly hehe 😁
Good advice regarding delicate models, I'll keep my Necrons legit but I do like those C'tan models
Thanks and have fun with it 😁
Necrons in plastic are so much easier to build with plastic glue and not worry about breaking when dry brushing, don't see the point in resin minis for them 👍
Printed a nice tyranid army to test out and go with my old lead Eldar for my son to paint and use. GWprices were a little prohibitive, but printing made it viable.
That's ace and a great idea 😁
Always been a bit meh on 3d printing. But after seeing those dwarf sculpts and how much they look like the old metal ones I love I'm tempted.
Yer some sculptors are amazing !!
I buy 3D prints, but generally of the models that never seam to be in GW stock.
The only time that I have brought 3D printed models when they were available from GW was the dwarf 'Iron Bolt' blood bowl team, as those models looked super cool!
Fair enough... I agree GW would do much better if they had stock 😆 who'd have thought lol
I'd love to get a 3d printer but lack the space and expertise unfortunately
There some great sculpts out there for printing
I thought that too tbh, then took the plunge and never looked back lol
@SimplyWarhammer tempted to look into it myself later this year in time for new edition of AOS
I'm happy to pass on anything I've learned to help out 😁
@SimplyWarhammer if it happens I'll be sure to ask for tips
👍
I’ve not tried 3d printing but it’s an obvious tool and definitely something to make use of occasionally. Wise words from you in terms of picking where it’s most appropriate
Super useful tool as you say even if you don't print whole minis or armies 👍
I only just started playing tabletop warhammer! So far I’ve only got the introductory and starter sets.
Any suggestions on what to get next?
I've done that for a channel member before 😅
I think there are small printers but not that good but you can get entry level ones that are ace. Still < £300 all in to get going
My brother has a resin 3D printer, I'm having him print me some bits so I can maximize some of my Tyranids boxes and do some kitbashes. That experiment is most likely what will help me decide to get into 3DWH40K. Fingers crossed for the give away!
That's the best way to do it, have someone go through the pain and mess of owning a printer haha 😁
Great video. My 3d printer had been a god send for my necron army. Most of my force is printed
Nice lol, I'd have thought they'd be spindley and breakable... have you done something as big as monolith ?
I really want to get into 40k but I just don't have the money. Also kinda confused on how to actually build an army. But I've only gotten interested last week
If you have a 3D printer you can get into warhammer more cheaply bit factoring in the price of the kit it's pretty even with a 1st army.
Might be a longer chat than through a message but best chatting about armies with people and getting a demo game in a store, the GW chaps are ace at intros, that's how I started 😁
Great video and congrats on the milestone 👍
Cheers 😊😁
3D printing has always seemed cool to me, but I prefer myself to do lil kitbashes here and there instead!
Kitbashing is great fun, and I've found printing some bits to help really good too 👍
Been looking into 3d printing after noticing GW profit margin is nearly 5 times higher than bandai and amazon(MADNESS) and your videos have been helpful!
Thanks for watching. Also check the comments for all the helpful people recommending water washable lead brittle resin 😁
It's soul destroying when a print mini drops ! In another comment though someone recommended a water washable tough resin !! 😃
It's a lot better to just use normal resin with IPA washes.
This helped thanks I was and still am on the fence about weather or not to get a printer or buy the custodies army box
Glad it helps... its a hobby in itself but its fun and once comfortable its hassle free
I print for One Page Rule and it's incredibly cost effective and I can make exactly what I want. I made firstborn blood angels with primaris size and I really enjoy it.
Exactly it works so well !
Honest question , if I print models can I then resell them on amazon or temu and such ? Because it sounds like a good side hustle honestly
Don't know about those 2 platforms but people do it all the time on Etsy. Depends whether you have permissions to resell, often creatures of stl's have special arrangements with resellers
I'm all for the rule of cool. There are some models that just look amazing, with what people do with them.
I think most people in tournaments are happy with it too, unless you are modelling something vastly smaller than it should be 😁
@SimplyWarhammer absolutely.
I use Jamg He 10k art engineering resin, it's really sturdy.
Cool ill check it out thanks 😁
3d printing always me to supplement my collection and get models I would never but normally.
It does ! Although give me more painting for to do... I have a full White Scars printed army for Horus Heresy to paint now 🙈 lol
Eldar titan was non resin right? I know you lose some details but i wouldnt mind durability so ill try just non resin for oldworld dwarfs hope they ll look somehow good.
All my printing is resin, and forgeworld is resin also 👍 great quality on the detail just a little brittle
Great video! Where are the best sites to get the STL files?
Get the Telegram app, search and join groups 👍
Smashing it out of the park as always. The best warhammer community about.
Thanks and we do have a great community 😊
I’ll be brave enough to get a 3D printer one day, I hope. Good to hear you are having a blast.
Haha its great 😁 checkout my video about everything I've learned 😉
“Thin or spikey”
*cries in tyranid
Haha I know 🙈
I like your broad view on 3D prints. It's often just YES or NOO
Thanks very much 😊
Use a mix of 25-30%flex resin/ 75-70%normal. The models are just as durable if not more than GW products.
You mean mix types together? Interesting idea 🙂
@@SimplyWarhammer Give it a go, it works like a charm.
Cheers
Looks like I have to get into 3d printing now 😂
Haha I love it now and also got an FDM printer but that's a different video 😉 😁
I've been a patreon of Highland Miniatures for a long time and have their complete lines including a few limited Frontiers. You should find better resin to use. ABS-like resin is best for wargaming resins
Thanks I will from now ! All part of the learning process 😁
might be late asking here but how bad is smell and is it loud also dose it cost a lot in power bill. i spend way to much on warhammer so i like the 3d printing idea but live in a small-ish flat so unsure if its for me
With water washable and the airfilters it's not that bad a smell.
I've seen sales on them before so will grab one after doing a bit of research into my choices
Cheers
I realised I didn't comment on power draw but I don't notice it as pay a fixed monthly direct debit anyway. You won't be unhappy with what you are unlocking for yourself 😁
@@SimplyWarhammer ill do the rough math real quick. For a 10 hour print where 1/3 of the time is spent running the UV light, its about 20 cents of electricity at average residential prices in the US.
I have the night bringer proxy. Better scale than the gw one but brittle.
Ace but shame it brittle
I think printing models is the mest moneysaver ever.
I’m building a grey knights army and you can find decent 3d stls free online.
Even if i don’t have a 3d printer, you can easily find some Random gal Who can print it for you! Amazing
Yer exactly, you can get someone else to print for you 😁
GW, now push 3D printing with their actual state, so this kind of channels will got the colateral benefit, and also thanks for the video.
I agree and only hope you are right about the growth 😉 poor stock, fomo releases and legends are all reasons people choose to print more now than ever.... also the amazing quality and affordability of printers!
I 3d print my terrain and gaming features. Haven't tried models yet.
I haven't tried terrain yet, I might get an fdm printer for that though 😁
@SimplyWarhammer I use PLA. Tons of open license materials in thingiverse for printing. Just pulled a bunch of drums and crates off the printer this afternoon.
Yer I need a better resin !
Bro you are an absolute king so kind and straight forward what a G you will most definitely be getting a subscriber
😍 thanks do much 😊😁 glad you enjoy
Want to get into 3d printing but im worried i wont be able to find all the necron models im looking for. Wriaths doomstalker lokhust heavy destroyers
You can definitely find everything you want and there's loads of sites for proxies, and if you dig deeper patreons.
But get yourself on the messaging app Telegram and you'll find everything there 😁
My beautiful Abaddon
haha I had to add an extra pic of the cloak 😍
😍
😁
I like the idea of printing my own stuff with all the variation and some of the scenery is amazing but honestly I'm far too lazy, I'd buy it all and then not bother :-)
Haha fair enough 😅
@@SimplyWarhammer that said there's all those tiny bits missing from my old hammer I could make... Maybe one day.
Lol that would be perfect if you can get scaling right 😉
You can just print out on card paper and fold them up. If you really want to play the game.
So it's never about the game. It's about playing with the models that you can be proud of.
Yer it is all about the models 👍 I think only a small part of the hobby is game focused 1st
3D printing is a godsend for holes in the range. Looking at you, Old World
oh too right !! 👍 its actually a joy finding things for the gaps too
Where are you getting these stls from?
Email me through the about the channel link and I'll let you know 😊
@@SimplyWarhammer email sent!
💪 I just can't share details on YT 🙈
Nice Channel 🤘 Abo set🍻
I love my 3D printer. now two pieces, an Anycubic Photon mono 4k and an X2.
I'll lean out a little and definitely say YES
I completely understand that Games Workshop is now getting a bit thick about it, but personally I can't afford to put 1200 euros on the table for a Warlord Titan. my wife would kill me.
Agreed the quality and cost of printing is fantastic ! I've loved it alongside also paying gw for models 🤦 guess I'm silly lol 😆
Love me some 3d prints 👍 can’t get to 15k points of Nids without some proxies and replicas 😂
Haha mint 💪
I support rule of cool for models.
what about printing terrain ?
I'm going to have to get myself an FDM printer then I'll definitely be doing terrain too 😁
Thanks for sharing your experiance!
Thanks for watching 😁
3D printing allows for more "kitbashing" and making your army more unique
Yer it's perfect for that too 😁
sunlu water washable abs like resin, give it a try
Thanks I'll have to give it a go 😁 wish I'd know this before printing a full Dwarf Old World army lol
And even though my brother only pays $35 for a bottle of resin I don't know what brand he gets where the company is but I've never had a problem with the resin and I currently have a kill team of sisters of battle that all have cyber Valkyrie wings and their armor is designed to look like that and when not playing kill team I have them counting as seraphim and zephiram squads
But the fact that I have a strike squad an interceptor squad and a brotherhood Terminator squad and my brother said the cost of the resin not including electricity for the printer or the curing machine that uses the UV lights or the cost of the isopropyl alcohol I've spent less than $10 for three squads of grey knights a proxy for caldor Drago and two five man squads for the sisters of battle being roughly about another $3 so I've spent 13.00 on 26 miniatures and I cannot count My librarian because that is actually a dark Angels Terminator that I repainted
That's brilliant, it's ace how cheap it is and nice work finding a resin that isn't too brittle for you. Jealous of your group and local shop that don't worry about the models, the rule of cool wins 😁 nice 💪
Acetone vapor will turn all your prints from brittle to bendy.
is that a real technique, does it mess up the prints though ? Got something else to look into now lol although not sure I have the setup for such technical things 😆
Liked and subscribed thanks for the great video!
Thanks very much 😊😁
Great video!!
Thanks 😊 😁
Wouldn't a resin printer solve the easy breakability?
This was with a resin printer and better resin that is more expensive would improve it. If you mean an FDM printer so the hard indestructible plastic, they are good but you can't get the quality on miniatures 👍
You're a fool if you don't invest in a 3d printer. Not only for saving money, but GW constantly runs out of stock. Resin is never out of stock.
The models you can print look much better also than those designed by GW.
It is super useful but it's a hobby in itself and can see why people are scared off. I think the more you spend on equipment the easier it is !
How much printer costed ?
The elegoo saturn 3 ultra is currently £450 on Amazon. But seems like there's a Saturn 4 out now too !
@@SimplyWarhammer yeah i just found out, im trying to build my printing setup ( one fdm, one resin) and im deciding between saturn 3 ultra or mars 4 ultra + neptun 4 max ^^
All depends how big a build plate you want and what other features each gives you, I'm sure they all print excellently
It so easy and good quality nor to print isn't it !
prices politicy of GW is a true shame
And I think prices will keep going up 1 or 2 times per year too
Awesome video.
Cheers 😁😊
Where are you at man? I’d love to play a game
I'm in Cheshire UK and always after some games 😁
@@SimplyWarhammer ah man, America myself. Tzeentch has done it again
Typical 🤦
It's literally cheaper to buy a printer and print them yourself.
So fuck GW for their insane prices for little plastic men and just print them instead, don't give GW your money.
I proved that if you want to play Legions Imperialis its definitely cheaper to buy a printer and print what you need ! yikes...
ace 👍 thanks
My pleasure 😁
Ain't nobody got space for that 😅
