    It’s a great way to start. It also makes you figure out if you actually want a home gym or you like being at a public gym instead. You don’t want to end up spending $1,000+ only to end up having it collect dust and being used to dry cloths on.

    building a home gym on the budget , I say look around for a Solid ONE Piece Barbell. I have a Home gym with a 1/2 Cage Bench/Squat Rack combo with Pulley and Chin-up set up Standard cast iron Weights and all three types of Barbell sizes 5’ , 6’ , and 7’ Barbell bars all from Cap all solid and a triceps bar , plates from 50lb plates to 2-1/2 lb plates all Cap brand . And I’ve had this set up since I was 13yrs old and it still holds up til this day 2022. I suggest to those going on a budget home gym set up and you’re gonna get a bar Olympic go for the solid one bar ! Never put together your barbells . I say go online check out OfferUp and Craigslist for bars and weights before getting them at Walmart. Mostly OfferUp than CL. Because you can get a great deals on gym equipment. Hell! I got a Body Champ dual Bike/Elliptical Machine for $40 . That would retail around $115-$150 in stores and it still hold up from when I got it in 2020. The bench is actually rated at 300lbs- 600lbs user weight+weight being used.

    But, I had a very similar set up at first, and it was beneficial

    • @TrainerBigMike
      @TrainerBigMike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I saw that on the description but I went with 300lbs because that’s what it says on the bench itself and honestly that is more accurate. I weigh about 175lb and getting myself and anything over 60lb dumbbells for bench is pretty “squirrelly”

      I got mine in 2019, in January. So, who knows if they had to cheap out in any places since then.
      The bench is made to use with the uprights,so, they set the limit at 300lbs, and the uprights only are to support that much. But, if you weigh fsr enough under the limit- more may be possible.
      However,it would be irresponsible recommend people do that.

    Nice vid Big Mike ... yeah ... nice set for a new lifter like a younger teen or older dude like me. But ...
    This video is 2 years old and that's about when all the local WalMarts anyway (in East Tenn. as least) massively downgraded their inventories. You don't see weight benches and racks and dumbbell sets like this at all I got the same bench and rack for my boy 3 years ago - identical - but it had a Gold's Gym sticker instead of Weider. They had funky standard 1" weight plates back then and they were Weider or Gold's Gym depending on the year and location being sold.
    WalMart did have some decent olympic size Gold's Gym sets (and Weider before that) a few years ago - and online as welll but now anything is pretty much CAP ... And as I said only plates, some bars and mostly rubber hex dumbbells.. WalMart is terrible when it comes to fitness equipment inventories ... at least in East Tenn.

    Other than that, thanks a lot for buying this just to show everyone what they are getting into. That shows you actually care about your audience and not just trying to make money off endorsements.

      Oh yeah no I was as surprised as you are at how shaky it was, I think I mentioned it in the video but these products tend to vary in quality and even production. I had one in the past as well that was a lot more stable. Yeah not to mention that most big box stores sell fitness products that will consistently contradict themselves from the warning labels on the actual product, the box and the manual itself. You see it a lot on Amazon products as well, it’s a little funny but mostly concerning how there’s little to no regulation on the misinformation allowed in most products.

    Great video! Ive recently been looking to build a home gym for a number of reasons. I am not new to gyms or lifting but it we've all seen other youtuber channels who review multi thousand dollar setups and I dont see the need to spend that much money. Is the Wal-Mart system perfect? No. But people dont need to spend a lot of money to get equipment to get a good workout. I might not buy the bench and floor equipment you did but the plates and dumbells are great for the price. Do you research and shop around.

  • @pnweezy
    @pnweezy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's lie $500 for those equipments. B4 pandemic they were cheaper. During pandemic prices for those equipments sky rocketed. Even today it's still cost a lot. Since he up loaded not long ago. 500 bucks can't buy all thos equipment s.
    What he trying to say is more in the $1k mark

    • @TrainerBigMike
      @TrainerBigMike  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I paid less than $500 and I do mention that I got some of the stuff on clearance, for example the dumbbell set retailed for $150 and I got it for $75. I see what you’re saying but I’m not lying 🤷🏻‍♂️

    That was hilarious! The stand was more sturdy with the over capacity level of weight. The whole set up is a disaster in the making.
    Take that $500 and join a gym. Then when you can afford it, go elsewhere for better quality.
    I bought budget gym equipment at Dick's Sporting Goods and Dunhams's 25 years ago and still use it multiple times a week. Nothing is broken and still looks good.
    That Walmart junk would last a month if you are lucky.

      I used a similar setup for almost a year before COVID, wasn’t very strong though and immediately upgraded as soon as I could. I would say saving up and getting the stuff you really want is the best option.

    I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B
