just wanted to drop a comment to say how awesome this video is, both on pacing and content. it's definitely not what you regularly see on typical workout channels but this is still super cool, and very much a crossover of the passions you show off on the channel.
I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B
I always enjoy projects more when Grammies is right there with me sweating it out, getting full of paint, or covered in saw dust! It's the best! Have a good one JLloyd! :D
Dude....currently in the middle of converting my garage into a home gym and you're setup is very similar to mine. Same folding rack and bike, even down to the paint color! Awesome job!
I had to google how to vertically hang the American flag, and by golly you’re right, the union is supposed to be on the top left. Learn something new every day. I thought your way looked correct too.
I was going to comment the same, the union in the flag should always be displayed in the top left, when on a shirt or uniform the union will be facing towards the front (always attacking forward) , glad you have the correct info now. Gym looks great
That is awesome 👌👏, we have almost similar basement condition and was thinking to either convert the garage or the basement to a home worker out area. Thanks for sharing all the info and enjoy the workout in your great GYM.
I love those LED shop lights. I have a few for my indoor micro greens. They are amazing. I completely recommend for every project replacing old lights.
Nice job, I just finished a two year process of transforming my garage to a home gym. Yes it took that long to insulate it, put wood trim and drywall on the walls, paint everything, get the floor done and get all the equipment I wanted. I did workout that entire time in the garage and things evolved as I got more equipment or wanted a more finished look to the space.
As someone who's bought and used Rogue equipment since they began, strip that powdercoating off your pull up bars! Trust me. No more nasty tape needed. Raw steel is the perfect amount of grip needed for pull ups, toes to bar, leg raises etc. I just used some eco-friendly gel paint stipper from Home Depot. A couple of coats and some scraping and the powdercoat was gone. You could also just buy steel piping if you want to save yourself the hassle.
nice. i keep threatening to get a fold flat rogue power rack to save some garage space (in sunny fl so no cold issues just need ac which my shop has) just hard to justify as i have a marcy squat bench sitting idle and a 30 year old Wielder that has served me well for over a decade (picked up used). only thought on you gym here and space useage other than its awesome is I would have probably added an access panel for the cleanout in case its needed. maybe you did just not on video but a little inset panel with trim and exposed screws for easy access.
Artic Circle? Ye-ah, much like when we were in NE! I take it you really like the final color! LMAO!! Those horse stall mats are perfect we always use them in our gym!
Awesome gym! Really cool that you and Mrs. Shop Nation both put some sweat into it. I enjoy projects the most when Grammies is right there with me. What are some of your upcoming projects? Take care and stay safe!
I had to Make room in my garage and put in a platform and a rogue r6 power rack. Bad thing at the time was finding weights people were selling everything about double normal price.
@@motor2of7 Right, but when you watch the video, he acknowledges that he's hanging it wrong. It's since been fixed. Many people would never catch the mistake.
Great home gym setup. I used to live in TX and now CA. Both places don’t have basements so jealous of that extra space. I think a good topic for your next video would be how to build your own Rogue Plyo Box 🙈 I saw the price...ouch!!!
1st off, HAND CLAP to the wife who seems chill about doing some labor!!!! 2nd, great reno... lastly; why have separate pull up bar mounted when you have one in your rack? Just curious as to the thought on that...
I need to redo my garage gym but I joined a gym a few days ago to use certain machines that I dont have. I really want to snazzy up my garage gym.Anyway, nice home gym.💯
Did you use a treated bottom plate? If not aren't you concerned about wood directly on the concrete wicking moisture? I know it's a problem here in Missouri would assume Ohio is the same. Love the videos.
Nice work! It turned out beautiful. I was laughing at what you said about the rubber mats. I’m in the middle of finishing up my basement and it’s going to have a gym. I bought some stahl mats this weekend and holy cow I got a workout carrying those heavy and awkward bastards down to the basement. 😂 it will be good to have them down there though.
So as a Canadian, I am a little concerned you did not insult the exterior wall to the floor. It helps to make the Basement warmer all winter long (and cooler in the summer). Otherwise Awesome.
@Shop Nation I may be wrong but I don't think so. Hopefully you'll not need access to your PVC drain access on the floor very soon as you'll have to open up your nicely painted wall to gain access to it! Did I miss something or did you sneak in a small access panel that cannot be seen very well?
I wish I had that height in my basement. Have to work out with my head strategically located between the floor joists. Any overhead presses I have to do from my knees
1. You need a functional trainer 2. You need a reverse hyper 3. Hang that American flag the correct way. It's been 2 years, so it's probably fixed. Remember, the union goes on the left. 4. Nice work
Excellent work again!! 👍🏻 And don’t tell anyone, but when I ask my wife for help doing work stuff, it always has something to do with painting... 🤣 Great vid!
Ummm.... dont you have a high speed low drag electric paint sprayer? Will it not work with that paint or were the fumes going to be too much? Love the build as always!!
WHOA This is perfect man - I never thought about using plywood, makes perfect sense . question why didnt you put more insulation prior to the plywood install? is it because you didnt want to disturb the current insulation thats up? Very very smart. and How tall is your ceiling?
Have to admit I didn't read every comment, but I made a decent effort, so forgive if I missed this... How is the bike on the matts? Is it stable? Thanks!
I love how he says he is going to ask his wife for help painting, and then proceeded to let her do the painting all by herself, presumably while he watched football, or admired himself in a mirror, lol
I thought the same thing David. I can no longer get away with that unfortunately. Grammies caught on to my game pretty early so NOW I no longer ask for help but ask if she'd like to work WITH me on a project! Take care out there, have a good one.
Lol he did hours of labour work, while she did like half hour to an hour work, painting isn’t really physical either,if the rolls were switched I’d understand, idk why you making it a big deal
Man, you’re not kidding about wood prices - a few months ago, a 4 x 8 x 3/4” sheet of CDX ply was about $25. Now, I grab the same sheet of ply and leave them my firstborn 😱
Very nice work. I'm in the throes of my own basement gym project and these vids are great. I was admiring your 4-tier dumbbell rack. But the link you provided doesn't appear to lead to a 4-tier rack. Anyhow, thanks for the great vid.
1st time here.. why dont u cover the ceiling instead of leaving it open? nice little gym.. i am not into cross fit.. i do some weights & cardio myself.. what your diet? wife did pretty good paint job.. 🤔😅
Dude! I like "Arctic circle" OHIO comment that was funny. I have the same basement and planning on turning into a home gym. Glad I found this video! Great job.
Lumber prices are insane. Right?! I'm finishing a room in my basement and I wished I did it a year ago. Oh Well. Your home gym space turned out great. Pursuing gym greatness too!
I've been using 2x3s to build a lot of stuff. Turns out, you don't need that extra $5 for another inch of wood for a lot if stuff. I've also started salvaging wood from dumpsters at remodels. Wasn't before, but now definitely worth my time!
Fellow Ohioian here. Where in Ohio are you? It only gets REALLY cold in northern Ohio (Cleveland). Second question: Did you need to pull permits for this?
Just curious if you are gonna spray your ceiling? If so, what color are you thinking? I’m trying to decide if I am going to or not in my new basement gym.
I have the same RML-3W and love it except for how much noise it imparts into the wall when I rack my bar; with yours being mounted on a somewhat false wall does it transfer noise into the house or is it dampened?

Here to make the same comment.
Why are Americans so obsessed with having the flag everywhere

Talk about a handy, that sir was super impressive. Awesome videos man, can't wait to check out more of your videos.
Talk about a "handy man!" You the man buddy. Great gym.
Keep tabs on moisture building up under those mats every few weeks. They tend to build up condensation easily and can develop mold if left unchecked.
Good tip!
@@ShopNation You can also put Gorilla Tape between the seams of the mats to prevent moisture buildup. It also holds them in place really well.

Hah! I just bought the same mat's for my mini gym. Great stuff, but wow, the rubber stank was strong with these ones for a couple weeks.
Thanks for the heads up I’ll let them air out before I bring them inside

@@agenola7693 yes I do, it’s just a rogue flat bench. I store it on the wall with a rogue storage mount.

Just a suggestion.. if you orient the flag vertically, the stars are typically on the left side. cool video.

Couldn’t agree more about the horse stall mats, super awkward moving those solo. Great looking gym!
Excellent flag etiquette. MANY people don't realize how to properly hang a flag on the wall. Looks great.
Um, he’s got the flag backwards. The stars are always on the left.

Recommend using gorilla tape on each seem of the flooring. It works great and if you ever have to remove it, it doesn’t leave sticky tape residue.
I did that in our last gym and it does actually leave a residue if it’s on there for a long time. Works well for keeping the mats together though
Awesome video! What color did you use on the walls?
Well done brother

Did you have to do place a vapor barrier above the concrete and the mats you placed down? If not, was there any moisture that later resulted?
