7:37 Some Imperial scholars theorize that Tau not operating under the high level guidance by Ethereals revert back to a more unorganized state... Hmmm 🤔. 8:20 What happens when Etherial's fight with their armies personally. Their troops get pumped and stronger.
The idea that the Tau were already in proto-caste castes before the ethereals appeared is a stupid idea.. "The builders" are basically the earth caste before the ethereals and of course the "plains warriors" are basically the fire caste before the ethereals.. but are we really expected to believe that the builders didn't have their own warriors to be able to defend themselves? That the plains warriors didn't have homes or cities to live in because they weren't "builders"? Or that neither side had merchants, diplomats, and communication specialists? Each side should have had an understanding of construction, warfare, diplomacy, commerce, ect. and had their own nations fighting each other for control of land and resources, just like our own history. It would make more sense if the ethereals "found" their species in a state of nation-warfare and had taken the best diplomats from each nation to make the water caste, the best warriors of each nation to make the fire caste, the best engineers and inventors of each nation to make the earth caste, ect. Also, I've always thought that the idea of Tau never having used melee weapons is stupid and can't be completely true. Sure, in modern (advanced-interstellar) warfare the idea of using melee weapons may seem unnecessary when you've got ranged weapons that can one-shot your enemy from the edge of the bloody horizon, and especially when you consider that the Tau are generally more fragile and weak than the other species in the galaxy, thus melee combat puts them at a severe disadvantage.. but what about before they invented ranged weapons? What about Tau vs Tau warfare? At some point in their history, the Tau must have been killing each other with spears and clubs before inventing bows and arrows.. but even after the invention of bows and arrows, melee weapons would still have a place as armored warriors wielding a swords and shields could slaughter archers if they get within melee range. Thus, there should be an ancient tradition amongst the Tau that teaches their ancient form of melee combat, that although not used in modern (advanced-interstellar) warfare is still something that many Tau warriors should want to learn just in case they ever find themselves in melee combat.. Very similar to how we still have people (including soldiers) who practice ancient martial arts that rarely, if ever, are used in actual modern warfare. So now imagine armored Tau fighting each other with swords and shields sometime in the 34th millennia.
To a regular tau citizen a great leader, teacher, guide to the greater good. To others, a being who's able to brainwash they're own kin like drones. Wither it be to victory or defeat, to death by suicide for having a different opinion, killing allies just because they had opinion of alliance wither they be gue'vesa planetary governors, colony of kroot, colony of vespid, colony of humans. It doesn't matter if the ethereal believes that you can't be a betterment of the empire, they'll remove and tell its citizens they were a separatist movement that didn't believe in the greater good.
"Don't thrust them ALL." -Puretide That line is a cheque of intrigue from the writers, which they must honor. The presence of the Ethereals dosen't seem to be the cause of the Taus rapid development, they appeared when the Tau had firearms. I also think a lot of the secrets and motivations revolve around the caste system, which on the surface sure looks like is in place to divde their race and put them on the top. But that's just to boring, we got that with the Humans and their tiered class system and they are very dilligent in putting their lives on the line for their ideology, especially when meeting new races. So I think they are sincere in their values(atleast some of them). So that raises the question how is the seperation of the "sphere of domain"(pilots, fighter, builder, diplomats) a greater good when Farsight became a better Fire warrior by delving into his suits inner workings which is the Earth caste domain. Farsight certainly upholds the Tau "Greater good" creed without the caste system and the Etherals are really pissed. But is it simply a matter of obidience, position and egos. Or do they have less faith in their own race then they have towards aliens. "War of Secrets" and "Shadowsun: Patient Hunter" certainly showed how Tau(Atleast Water and Fire caste) could quickly turn to biggotry and genocide when faced with Ta'uva workshippers or realities warp affinity. The Etherals have allready brought their race from the brink of Oblivion, maybe they are to afraid of Jugoslavia splitting up, or conducting realpolitik that balances sphere of influence between world powers to avoid conflict. So...LOTSA room for hubris, chief among which appears that they, just like the Emperor keep their secrets. But it does seem they a secret galaxy turning agenda...and Games Workshop still working to get that plot point as crazy and incredulus as they can make it.

Thanks for the input.
Who knows if someday we will know who the ethereal ones are and how the tau evolved so quickly
*"The Ethereal Caste leads for the Greater Good."*
That’s debatable
Ethereals are rad. Without them the tau empire would have died out 9x over

You're welcome.
Nice-Nice! Blueberries, hope they taste good-good
Based tau
I'd like to see what would happen if a Primarch was raised on a Tau planet.
He would lead them, of course :D
