@@GaryEats I would never patronise Oliver, he's a pretend chef, a biy like Ainsley, besides he owes millions to creditors both here and in Oz when businesses went bust. His Jamie's Italian in Cheltenham was truly appaling. PS, if a restaurant can't produce a properly cooked steak and a few greens then there's no hope.

Imagine sitting down for a meal with someone who combines the sophistication of a seasoned gourmand with the warmth of a close friend. That's exactly what it's like to watch a review by Gary, our esteemed food critic. His approach to food review is nothing short of poetic, yet incredibly accessible.
Gary doesn't just describe food; he paints a picture with his words. When he talks about a dish, you can almost taste the flavors, see the vibrant colors, and feel the textures. His descriptions are rich and evocative, often comparing the layers of taste to a symphony where each ingredient plays its part perfectly. He might describe a well-cooked steak as having "a charred exterior that gives way to a juicy, tender interior, bursting with smoky, savory goodness."
But what truly sets Gary apart is his ability to make his audience feel completely at ease. Watching his reviews feels like you're right there with him, perhaps at a quaint bistro or an upscale restaurant, as he leans in to share his insights with a twinkle in his eye. He has this knack for making complex culinary concepts understandable without ever talking down to his viewers. Instead, he engages them with humor and personal anecdotes, making each review a delightful story rather than a mere critique.
Gary's knowledge about food is extensive, spanning from the origins of certain ingredients to the intricacies of various cooking techniques. Yet, he shares this knowledge in such a way that it feels like you're learning from an old friend rather than a textbook. He might tell you about the history of a regional dish or the chef's inspiration behind a new creation, all while maintaining a conversational tone that draws you in.
In essence, Gary's reviews are like sharing a meal with a companion who knows all the right questions to ask and all the best stories to tell. His passion for food is infectious, and his genuine enjoyment of the culinary arts makes every review a must-watch. Whether he's exploring the hidden gems of a city's food scene or delving into the details of a Michelin-starred menu, Gary’s reviews make you feel like you're part of the experience, savoring every bite right alongside him.

Within the industry Jamie was just a celebrity cook that was made big on TV. Many years ago I trained under a chef that made his own mark. He once told me, don't chase accolades and fame, just cook with passion. He said you could have all the AA rosettes and Michellin stars, but if your restaurant is empty everyday it means nothing in the end! It stuck with me. I was working at a small B&B in the New Forest called Gordelton Mill, and my chef was Jean Christoph Novelli. I just hope and pray that Jamie Oliver has the same humility now. It's a great review Gary, let's hope Jamie is not distracted by Sainsbury's ads or children's school meals, and a little more present and focused this time on his restaurant.

Some of the comments are really interesting. Clearly, we all have different opinions. For the west end and very nice surroundings, it looked like great value to me. I like Jamie, he has a social conscience, and he works incredibly hard. I doubt he was anywhere near the kitchen, but he will be trying to ensure standards are kept. He doesn't do tasting menus or fancy stuff, but he has a fantastic pallet and understanding of flavours. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Let's hope he doesn't try to do a big chain of these because that's when it really gets hard to control and keep up standards. Good review though, thanks

First rate review, which would certainly encourage me to go and try it. The commentaries from some are worrying, not least because firstly, it isn't possible to verify the accuracy of some, and secondly, because the clear animosities are common currency in celebrity circles, but all you can do - and I'd say SHOULD do - is review your own personal experience and be the judge of that. These staff, here today, are the ones who cooked and served you, and they're the ones who deserve the positive review.

Hi Gary, good review nothing wrong with simple food cooked well in a lovely restaurant. I was a fan of Jamies when he first started and I went to his restaurant in the gentlemans club early 90s, really enjoyed. We had Jamies Italian here in Sydney and it started off being a good reliable place to eat before it went down hill. Bit like so many on the comments so disappointed that when he closed he left so many staff and suppliers out of pocket, whilst he still has his mansions. It stinks Jamie, its about having integrity and pulling the pin before it gets to that stage. As we say it wouldn't pass the pub test.Good review Gary and love your consideration for fellow diners.

Hi Gary, I remember visiting a Jamie Oliver restaurant back in 2015, in central London. I'm sure it has long closed now & was part of his old chain. It was a very average meal for well over £200 for two of us. I've never thought much of Jamie Oliver to be honest & I know he had scandals around not paying suppliers & staff, but most importantly, this is a "Gary Eats" review & my favourite TH-cam channel, so let's give it a go! ☺️
Your son did lovely shots there at the start of the video & the restaurant is beautiful. The food looked pretty good, simple presentation but nicely done. I know it can be difficult to film when you're sitting inside & a restaurant is getting busier, but you did a great job & you're careful not to interrupt other people, which is very much to you & the camera man's credit. Excellent quality review & you gave a fantastic description for each of the dishes. A score of 8.5 seemed bang on, based on what you said & how the meal looked on screen. Take care Gary & look forward to the next one. 💙

Hi Gary, I didn't even know Jamie Oliver, had opened a new restaurant, until you told us. I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I think Jamie Oliver, has tried to do good things in the main, as well as looking after himself and his family. I won't get involved in the arguments below, as I don't know enough to comment. Regarding favourite sauces with a steak, I like a pepper sauce, but feel that its' flavours can run over the steak. I think your choice of a Bearnaise, was good, it is a much lighter sauce, which enhances, rather than overtakes the star of the show. As ever, thanks to you and your son, for your continued good work on our behalves.

I dont think Jamie actively "ripped people off" - why would a business try and do this? simply does not make sense. Other factors come into play when a business is struggling. Sometimes it's a series of "bad hires", or local council rates increasing, or a poor menu.

If this restaurant is decent then Oliver must have nothing to do with the food. He must have hired a professional chef and let him go for it.

      @Sleepysod 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@JanetBrown-px2jn I saw your comment and have taken time to reflect as i agree and I think it was perhaps unnecessary to have added my original comment. That said I did work in the building for 8 years, and there were mice throughout the building and it was just offices at the time. The whole of the Covent Garden area has mice and/or rats (nearby Tesco and TGIs just down the road were previously closed for infestations) and I have seen mice in drury lane theatre before (next door to Jamie’s). Nothing to suggest that they are in his restaurant, but the whole area has problems which predate his restaurant and probably reflect the fact that there are many restaurants in the area and the area was historically a fruit and veg market

@@Sleepysod I understand what you are saying as I worked in NYC in restaurants right over the subway system, and it does take a lot of work keeping the rats out,it’s an on going battle, that our the city is trying very hard to win.i still think though we can’t assume that a restaurant has mice,or rats, just because it’s located in a big city,or right over the subway tracts. As it’s many years since I worked in a big bakery in the UK,I don’t know how often your health department visits every individual restaurant,or how well they check the restaurants out,but here it’s very often, and they spend a very long time looking into every corner,so I am not really worried when I eat out.

Two of the worst dinners i have ever had in the last 15 years were both at Jamie Oliver restaurants.
It was ridiculously bad and it extremely over priced hence why his empire closed down.
There was one of his restaurants near my work and I never went to it. As it was always completely empty almost every lunch time despite having 60-70 covers.
He also let multi generation family food businesses go to the wall when he declared bankruptcy by not paying them, but took millions out of the business for himself. Very bad.
