  • LaSonya knew something was wrong when she saw blood in her urine after recovering from an elective surgery. As a nurse practitioner, she knew this was unusual and contacted her doctor right away. A CAT scan then revealed a mass on her bladder and she was diagnosed with high-grade bladder cancer.
In this cancer vlog, she shares her journey of getting diagnosed, finding the right treatment and why she opted to remove her bladder.

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer, a few months ago, found it by accident doing a cat scan for something else, urologist did my scope said it was the best bladder cancer to have low grade surface only he felt surgery got it all, recheck in 3 months. Feel lucky

OMG, I love you! Your knowledge, humor and positivity are truly infectious. Plus, we are likely sorority sisters. Blessings dear. I learned a great deal. I laughed so hard when you said when I wake up and I don’t have a vagina all hell will break loose. Yes, we must listen to our body and we deserve second opinions. Thank you!!! My husband was diagnosed in August of 2023 with urethreal carcinoma muscle invasive high grade. It’s been the hardest thing to see him struggle.
Currently he is half way through the chemotherapy and facing a bladder removal.
He is 72 so having a bladder out seems so drastic but it’s the “gold standard”
Second of option came from Stanford and our local oncologist is in Honolulu.
Thank you for the straight talk and your spirit of hope and joy.

✍Hello...I'm waiting for my results from my Cystoscopy because my Urologist found 3 spots. My symptoms stared with just a few spots on my panty liner but to make a long story short starting having gross Hematureia my PCP gave me a prescription for an antibiotic for a UTI but still had bleeding.Referred me to my now Urologist and had the CT scan but didn't show anything but the Cystoscopy showed the reason for bleeding. I'm praying that its not in the muscle part of the bladder. Thank You for explaining about why you chose using the pouch and catheter for the same reasons I think is best cause I'm 78 and I think about who would be taking care of me also. It just makes sense. Thank You for sharing. God Bless Bye from Ohio

BCG rarely works with high grade bladder cancer . I used to work oncology surgery , pre-op and post operative. I had access to the research conducted on site . I remember my eye Doctor , really excellent ophthalmologist , told me one he had bladder cancer . I asked if his Doctor told about BCG ? He said what's that ? I told it used be used as a vaccine for TB , but depending on who is the head of the Medical school , BCG would either be used as a vaccine or not . The vaccine is not a large dose . BCG used for bladder cancer is very strong . The BCG didn't work and he sold his practice. Then my cousin's father had bladder cancer . The cancer centre was was trying Mytomycin in post scaping of the bladder . Since it was an investigational drug , physicians and nurses had gown , glove and mask when pushing the drug through the urinary catheter and all visitors had to leave the room . It seemed to work . But the cancer spread . It's really important that any cancer is not sat on , quick diagnosis is needed . But with bladder cancer , patients usually need to have the bladder removed , especially women .

I’m a nurse and I would 100% take it out also, same with repeat breast, biopsies, plucking out little bits of cancer here and there. That comes a point where you have to ask yourself is keeping this body part worth the ongoing anxiety and battle and also expense because these treatments are extremely expensive! Has to do what’s best for them, which may include not listening when people try to discourage you from removing something I.e.,“that’s such a radical procedure” but it’s your body and you have to live with the ongoing battle so you are the person who needs to decide what’s best for you

Thank you for sharing your story. I am currently fighting to find out what is wrong with me. I have had 4-5 UTI episodes over the past 8 months, but culture always comes back contaminated/inconclusive. They put me on antibiotics every time anyway and I get no relief. Over the past year, every time I have urinalysis, it always comes back with trace blood. Something definitely does not feel right. I have an appointment with my primary next week, definitely going to insist on seeing a urologist.

You are so loved by God PSALMS 139:14 thank you for posting very inspiring love your strength of the Lord. Can I ask you if diet changes came into play I read that cancer was something transferable from meat eating, don't know if you read it as well. Culturally speaking we are intended to be plant based. Dr. Kellogg years ago had things given him on this subject. Seems cancer is running rampant these days as we come closer to the second coming of Jesus Christ. I love your boldness in speaking about faith I believe sickness, health, and faith are inseparable. Thank you for encouraging so many and may God continue to bless and use you❤❤❤❤❤

The title is sadly misleading, likely to get some views. It's unfair to the patient whose story you're using and it's unfair to the clinicians who take care of her. The money you might make from this channel by creating such clickbait titles isn't worth it. You are putting out good content, it's better to just share it as it is.

I enjoyed your "truth" and respect your courage and positive personality. I only wish you had kept race/"culture" out of it. Have all your caregivers been black? There were not ANY white people who were part of your care that you could "trust?" I think it's sad that you think only "people who look like me" are able to "understand" what you're going through and can care for you. My late husband's cardiologist of 16 years is black. We are white. We didn't see color, only a very competent, caring, knowledgeable, and lovely man. I'm happy that you are now well and you are living your best life and have no regrets about your decision to have your bladder removed. I wish you good health and a long, happy life. But, please don't disparage the wonderful people doing their jobs and helping you through this trying experience, no matter what color they are. I know what you've been through, albeit on a smaller level, because I still have my bladder. I had bladder cancer twice -CIS - and have ongoing surveillance/maintenance every 3 months, after 2 surgeries and rounds of BCG. I'm on my 4th year and I think about it everyday, but what God wants for me, will be, and that's okay. My husband recently passed and he's waiting for me to join him, so I'm not scared at all. Blessings!+

It does to many people, especially when their skin color has been used against them or as an insult. People who've faced institutionalized racism often find embracing their skin color to be empowering as it's the thing racists say is their ultimate negative trait.
