If you have the Infinity system with the factory amp, you have to hook the Blue wire to the Blue and White wire on the other harness. This will power the factory Amp. If you do not do this you will not have any sound. Thanks for the awesome video, made it all a bit easier!
Eerm I connected my blue for the amp to the ignition wire because my blue and white is for my wireless controller it's got a piece of tape over it "wireless remote not power wire" from the factory
Awesome video! Saved me like $125! I went to a car audio store and they told me I'd have to buy a special wiring harness for my '04 grand Cherokee special edition, which would be $150 plus install. I really appreciate the help!! Keep up the good work
The video was great and very helpful. I installed the same stereo in my '01 a couple of days ago (first time even attempting that type of thing) and wanted to be sure I got it all right. Judging by your video, I'm pattin' myself on the back :). Thanks bunches!!
Tech Tip*** you can hook the pink wire from the ASWC-1 to the brown lead on the wiring harness for the jeep. It lines up with the Blue/yellow wire. So you won't need to splice the Blue/yellow, and the factory wires stay untouched. Thank you great video. I could not find which ASWC-1 wire to hook-up, or factory wire. Pink and the Yellow/blue was the winner, and my JVC is working great. Rock on.
Thanks for the video. I was able to install an aftermarket radio. What I was having trouble at first was the aftermarket radio not Turning on and since I had the limited version with the infinity system I had more wires and other stuff that you didn’t had. Well what I did was I hooked up the ground from the car to the ground on the stereo, also connected the blue with white wire from the aftermarket to the blue and blue and white wire from the wiring harness and that fixed everything I had trouble with. Thanks👍
Dude, spot on. Thank you. I even got the steering wheel control module working on the first try. I'd be pissed off, halfway through installation, cursing at a manual right now if u didn't make this video.
I got a radio ebay put it in and a week later the volume don t work.i use the vol on steering wheel. might be something loose . when I got it outa bix it looked to be unplugged or attatched so I just pushed it back together.everyhing seemed good .I replaced a cd / tape combo with a cd player. not sure if I wanna undo it all and take a risk of not being g able to get it back safety. I was shocked I got it out & in by myself without mucking up.lol the dash trim was hard to get back in and dont fit in as tight.i think it's not in straight seems to bulge in I corner and not be flush. but hey ur vid put me back on the music. I'm grateful to u for dat!!
Was going to take my jgc to a shop to get done, now that I see you don't have to take the whole dash off like I had to on my 00 blazer, I may attempt it myself! Thanks for being so thorough in your explanations!!
great video i have a 99 jeep grand cherokee lerdeo and i get all the wires right but there 2 wire the black one and there one that plugs to the head unit thats orange and white can you help me with this?
so, if you connect your interface to control the volume on the stereo in the audio jack, and you have an stereo that has a microphone, you could only connect only one?
My jeep doesn’t come with that other connection that went in the other stereo . I have the jeep grand Cherokee Laredo now the new stereo won’t play any sound ?
Second connector may have been because I had the premium sound system with the 10 disc changer and amp. Make sure all of your wires are connected properly and not loose or crimped on the wiring insulation. Verify good constant and switched 12v power for the red and yellow wires, and make sure your black wire is going to a known hood ground.
You’ll have to see if the back of your radio looks like it has the same style as mine did. You SHOULD be able to use the antenna adapter that I did, all parts in video description.
You did so nice and easy to install New Redio ... I did same way as you did ... but I having trouble ... please how do i connect steering wheel connector ...
There's a long skinny trim piece right above the steering column that pops right off and I used an existing screw to ground the wire to the metal behind the trim piece.
That's my stomach! Haha just kidding. It's the blend doors for the HVAC returning to neutral position. Seems to be a common issue that usually means the blend doors are broken.
Where did you get the mount that fully ready and set . The ones I fine is a kit and I have to put together .Because I'm looking everywhere and I seem to not find one .
Great video i just brought a 04 jeep grand Cherokee 2 questions where is the best place to ground the black wire? And what is the type of scoshe radio is tjat ?
The radio itself is actually a Sony, not a Scosche. The Scosche is just an installation tool kit which I have a link for in the video description. As far as the ground, if there’s a black wire coming from the vehicle, hook it to the black on the radio. If there’s no black coming from the vehicle, just do what I did and put a ring terminal on the end of the wire. Then you can use one of the factory screws to secure the ground wire to the metal panels in the dash. OR you can run the black wire to your battery ground terminal which would probably be the best.
Hello and thanks for the video. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2002 with a amplified system, Infinity amp, do I have to bypass or get a new harness wires to work with the amp. Someone recomended this harness to for the amp, Metra 70-6503 Radio Wiring Harness for Chry/Dodge 02 Amp Int.
Where do you ground the blAck wire im having so much trouble only gotten it to work plugged into the amp wire but I have an after market sub and wanna use that
Great video. My new radio doesn't have an additional 3.5mm jack. It's for the microphone. So I have to use the female 3.5 connecter. I read the instructions but can't figure out where the brown and brown/white connect to. Can please help? I have the Pioneer MVH-290BT.
Javier Gutierrez - Ok I'm just slightly confused. I looked up your radio and it shows it has a front USB and AUX port, which should be a standard 3.5mm. So I'm assuming you're talking about the back side of the radio. Does the radio have a 3.5mm male or female port on the back side? And what exactly are you trying to connect/use it for? Microphone?
at 11:15 I noticed a creaking/moaning sound in the background, my 02 does the same thing a couple of minutes after I turn it off. I think this has something to do with the hvac system, but do you know for sure?
Sorry I failed to get a clip of it fully installed. It if you click the link below, it will bring you to another install video of mine for my Dakota. Same radio and same filler panel so it will give you a pretty good idea. Skip to 18:09 th-cam.com/video/qpg7FTMBTRU/w-d-xo.html
My jeep has a pinout for a cd changer thats located in the back. The wiring harness that i bought has a orange wire that goes to nothing and nothing for the cd changer's pinout.
Good video. I'm watching this video so I can remove the aftermarket Kenwood unit and put the stock radio back in. Because I freakin hate aftermarket radios lol
I have a 2003 grand Cherokee. I don't remember what kind of stereo it was is, but I do have another problem, my speakers suck lol. They start to crackle when I turn it up.
On the WJ 99-04 grand Cherokees do u kno if u can still use the factory volume controls on the steering wheel with an aftermarket headlight or only with the stock one?
Also, I have the Infinity system with power amp, so I had to connect the blue wire coming off the aftermarket harness to the red power supply wire -- the blue wire powers the amp.
So does that mean both my factory amp and after market amp will turn on the same time thank u I have no sound putting 15s in it this week just wired up the CD player but have nothing so if I.hook up the remote wire to the red wire I'll have sound what about my aftermarket amp I just bought
Shane Miller yeah those tweeters are garbage. i replaced mine with these guys 9 months and they're working great www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004309LTE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Gus Wendt Sorry I just noticed your comments in the pending section. I ran them through the dash from behind the radio then pulled the plastic floor panels off that are on the edge of the floor carpeting. They are held on with phillips screws and panel clips. You will need to remove your plastic B-pillar (where your seat belt is) on passenger and drivers side then there will be a front and rear edging panel on each side that I was talking about. Ran the cables under the edging panels then reinstalled panels and had the cables come out of the plastic trim panels behind the rear seats.
and would you be able to help me,? I don't know if there is a wire specifically for the CD player itself but everything on my radio works except for the CD player the CD player was in my car 2002 Mitsubishi Galant which worked in that and my Jeep is a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo and won't work in here
did you have a black wire that had a black connector say amp on it that was just on a metal tab on the factory radio? if you did did you ground the wire or leave it hanging?
If the power to the deck keeps jumping on and off, then you should check the wires in the back. Try turning it on a jiggling the wires around to see if it shorts out when you move a specific wire. Once you figure out which wire is the problem, then change out that part.
Daniel Gauthier everything needs a power and ground to work, the red and yellow wires are your switched and constant power, the black needs to be connected to a ground, either connect it to the factory harness black wire or secure it to a screw or bolt on something metal in the dash.
What if instead of just the face of the new stereo, you have the entire box of it as well. I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was just wondering if your be able to help me out or if I'm better off having someone else install?
I have a JGC 2001 and after this video I saw how ez it was to take out the radio.I ordered a refurbushed radio online with a cd player w/cassete (current only has cassete),when i recieved it the connections for the harness was not the same .does it matter what year the radio is? i want to keep a stock look.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy yes the connections on my 2001 jgc radio runs across the back and has 2 prongs of equal width the radio i bought had connection holes up n down r/side of radio thanks for any help
Can you post the links of where you got the accessories? ?... I am installing a double din soon and would like the correct parts....thanks awsome video
when i removed my factory radio it had the antanna and three different plugs and im assuming a ground that was clipped onto a hanging tab i connected all the correct wires except on the new deck there wasnt a tab to clip it to or there wasnt a plug in for the other cord that was disconnected when i pit everything back it powered on and everything came on except no sound and a message said no service but antanna was plugged on all the way any idea what it could be
+Dennis Josjor I'm a little confused by what's going on, there's too many variables. Wiring harness should match color for color and the black wire needs to be grounded. Not sure what tabs you are speaking of. Also not sure what radio you have but any radio I've ever seen has static if there's no signal, never heard of "no service"
Yea i definitely worded that wrong lol i fixed the issue but it was set on blue tooth mode and no phone was connected the ground had a end clip which clipped onto a random tab on the frame of the deck i just cut it and hooked it to the other ground wires
dam. mine didn't come with that faceplate thing, it just had the square piece that you stated was for older models. and it wasn't wide enough so it has a small gap on each side.
Wow I think that’s the first time I’ve heard of premium audio with no steering controls lol. The interface (ASWC-1) is just for the steering controls, so you shouldn’t need that.
very helpful, but I did everything you said and I'm getting power to the radio but I'm not getting anything out of my speakers, could the stock factory Infinity amp be affecting anything?
The amp could be bad but if everything worked before you swapped the radio then I find that unlikely unless you crossed some wires and blew a fuse. See if there's a fuse on the amp and check the ones on the radio itself. If all fuses are good then check the Jeep fuse panel and see if the radio one is blown. If your issue still isn't resolved, you must have a crossed wire, bad ground or no power at your yellow and red wires.
Very nice information got here! I've got 1 question... Will this steering controller work for after market DVD or something like that? I'm thinking about installing a DVD on my 03 Grand Cherokee....
I'm not 100% on that but I would guess as long as the DVD deck has the main black power plug like the back of my deck had and assuming you wire everything else right, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Are there other radios compatible with this video and all the parts you used. The Sony CDX-GT710HD is more pricey than the other Sony CDX models. Would The CDX-GT330 or CDX-GT250MP be able to replace it?
If there's a black wire on the factory harness, just hook black to black. If not, all you do is run the black wire from the head unit to a known good ground, usually via a ring connector. I usually run it to something like the battery ground post, frame, engine block or even something metal in the dash that's grounded.
Hi Tony. I have a JGC 2000 and connect my aftermarket but there is no sound. Is there a harness connection I have missed? I watched your video, and the connections seem ok.
Are you sure you've connected each corresponding colored wire properly? The black wire needs to be grounded and the blue wire goes to the blue wire with white stripe. Also make sure your wire connections are good.
I was watching this for the radio but I heard the clicking noise in the background near the part for the steering wheel controls. My Jeep makes the same exact sound do you know what it is
Haha, that’s the unfortunate sound of broken blend doors for the dual climate control system. I don’t have a video on it, but you can look it up on Google or some forums. It’s a common thing with a few possible fixes
I watched the entire vid hoping to see how it looked on the dash. What kit did you use bcz if you install the stereo you will still have the vents exposed and it won't look very nice
I guess I'm not sure what vents you mean. The actual air vents for A/C and heat will remain. As far as the radio, the filler panel sits pretty much perfectly flush with the rest of the dash panel and the only part of the radio that sticks out a bit is the faceplate for the deck. It's as clean of an install as you'll get. Here's a link to the stereo install on my Dakota which uses the exact same filler panel and radio, skip to the 19:00 mark and you can see how it looks. th-cam.com/video/qpg7FTMBTRU/w-d-xo.html
there arent connections on the radio the place 2 connect the harnnes 2 the radio are wide and the same width cant tell if tall or skinny maybe i can return radio so the back will match the harness
excellent installation video. Thanks to you now I have new aftermarket head unit and new set of 4 speakers. I want to upgrade the amp and get a subwoofer, do you know how can I replace the factory infinity gold amp? Do I need aftermarket connectors in order to retain the factory ones? Thank you in advance for your help.
i know this is an old video, but just taking a shot. I bought a wire harness and it has two 12v constant yellow wires. there is only one yellow on the harness that came with the aftermarket stereo. do i run both yellow to the single yellow or just tape one off and run 1 to 1
Does that totally bypass the amp under the right rear seat or does it still use that? I want to put in a new radio and use a mono amp and single sub box (that I had in my older car) but still want the door speakers and tweeters to use the factory amp. Not quite sure how that works, Ive never had to deal with a factory amp before.
+JAYZIGGY5 This set up still maintains use of the factory amp, as far as the technicality of what you're looking to do I really have no experience unfortunately.
+PkwyDr Thanks man. that's all I needed to know. The back of the aftermarket radio's have an output for a sub which goes to the sub amp and then to the sub. So as long as the other speakers would work normally everything should be normal. ....except the stock 10 disc changer in the back. I forgot about that. I don't know if the head unit will control that or not. any chance yours has one of those?
I know this has been years since you made this vid but I’m currently installing one now. On the adapter there is a solid blue wire and on the wires of the new stereo there is a blue wire with a white stripe. Do I connect these or leave it
That SHOULD be the signal wire for your aftermarket amp if you have one, otherwise I don’t think blue is necessary to connect. I would connect the rest and test the radio before popping it into place first though just in case blue does need to be hooked up for some reason
it looked like you left the ground wire not grounded to anything, so is it fine to leave it like that or did you eventually ground it. and if so where is a good place to ground it back there
+Bryce Carlson I messed up during install, it should be grounded to a the black ground wire on the vehicle side if you have one otherwise I ground mine to a Philips screw that screwed into the metal support for the dash panels.
I had Best Buy look mine up so i'm not sure. My '95 dakota and '01 Cherokee use the same filler panel as your '98 will (the more square one), but i'm not sure about the harness.
Man, can you tell me what is the color of a wire color of pin 1 of the 2 pin connector? My radio doesn’t have the jack. The instructions says to connect the pink wire to the pin 1 of the two connector plug
I sold the Jeep about 5 years ago so I can’t check that for you, unfortunately. What 2 pin connector are you talking about? Should just have the main harness for the radio and then the ASWC if your using steering wheel controls.
Tony The Truck Guy I think is the one you did not use and you said maybe was for the cd shuttle. The reason why I’m asking is I’ve changed the radio long time ago, now I’m trying to put the aswc
You shouldn’t have to mess with that little plug at all. I just left mine unplugged. Just hook up the ASWC exactly how I show in the video and you should be fine.
It’s always recommended to disconnect your battery when doing anything electrical, but you should be fine as long as you don’t touch the 2 power wires to anything grounded.
Thanks for the video. Is there space behind the stereo? Can the antenna adapter plug be straight, not like the metra one which is under an 90degree angle. Will the stereo fit in then, or it's pretty against the plastic behind? Thanks.
+MustAccord I wouldn't say it's a perfect fit but I didn't tinker with it too long I just crammed everything in and I was able to get my radio in all the way without any issues.
+PkwyDr I am just going through this now. You said that you didn't use the Black and Brown wires. There are two yellow wires as well (Battery/Constant), did you use both of them or only one? I put these two yellow ones together and connected to the yellow one (3 yellow cables together) I connected my ASWC-1 pink cable to the brown cable on that plug, as it goes to pin 14 on the stock plug. Also the ground from the ASWC-1 is connected to the black cable which was leftover and the red one to the red one (12V Ignition Switched).
I thought mine only had 1 yellow not 2 but as long as they are tied together like you have it then you should be fine. The black I ran to a ground, brown I did nothing with. As for the ASWC it sounds like you got it down as long as it's how I showed.
I’m not positive if there’s certain years that had each style but I would just pull the 1 trim panel and 4 screws for the radio to pull it out and verify.
I can't remember if mine had that system or not. And honestly, I can't remember the difference between the gold system and the normal one haha. Steps should be the same, I would just double check part numbers by typing in your specific year/make/model/trim.
It’s been a while so I can’t recall exactly. The steering wheel control module was $50 alone but I don’t believe your Laredo will need that. I would say about $50 between the antenna adapter, filler panel kit, harness adapter and the wire connectors. Plus the cost of your radio.
+Cameron Cannon from what I've seen the antenna adapter is only needed from 02 and up grand Cherokees. I'm getting ready to put a new radio in my 2000 and didn't get the antenna adapter.
This is really the only video I’ve found that fully explains everything and doesn’t just skip things, as well as being helpful along the way
Agreed!
If you have the Infinity system with the factory amp, you have to hook the Blue wire to the Blue and White wire on the other harness. This will power the factory Amp. If you do not do this you will not have any sound.
Thanks for the awesome video, made it all a bit easier!
Thanks for clarifying, I thought I mentioned blue goes to blue in the video but maybe the white stripe is throwing people off.
+PkwyDr possibly, may have just missed it. You had a aftermarket amp so it did not click at first
+Morgan Glassco Yeah, I actually still had the OEM amp too. That one powered the speakers while the aftermarket one powered the subs.
hook the blue wire from the deck to the blue and white one on the harness that didn't get used ?
Eerm I connected my blue for the amp to the ignition wire because my blue and white is for my wireless controller it's got a piece of tape over it "wireless remote not power wire" from the factory

Thanks! I may be putting an aftermarket radio with Bluetooth in my '02 Grand Cherokee I just purchased. This helps a lot (:
Thank You. Had to swap my broke radio in my 2004 Grand Cherokee and video helped for a quick swap out

FINALLY!! a good & descriptive installation video!!
great video i have a 99 jeep grand cherokee lerdeo and i get all the wires right but there 2 wire the black one and there one that plugs to the head unit thats orange and white can you help me with this?
Nate Doom If you have an orange one coming out of the head unit, connect it to the orange wire on the adapter plug and the black goes to ground.
+Nate Doom I have the same car as you. What did you do about the antenna adapter?
This is overall a good video, but just a tip, most people wire up the harness at a table in their house then just plug it in.
What type of radio is that? It looks great with the interior of the 04
Sony CDX-GT710HD
so, if you connect your interface to control the volume on the stereo in the audio jack, and you have an stereo that has a microphone, you could only connect only one?
Correct, unless someone makes a splitter cable so you can plug both in.
My jeep doesn’t come with that other connection that went in the other stereo . I have the jeep grand Cherokee Laredo now the new stereo won’t play any sound ?

SmAfzalur - Did you watch the part at 10:30?
Should I disconnect the car battery before starting?
Never a bad idea when working with electronics
Buzzing is probably rca cables to close to power wire. Its called alternator wine thats why it changes with rpm of vehicle
Do you know how to stop this, I'm having this issue
@@spencerkeating7418 run power, remote, ground together 6-10 inches apart from the rca cables. Should stop the bleed over.
So where did you ground the black wire? I'm sorry if it is a dumb question I'm just having some trouble getting mine to work .
There's a long skinny trim piece right above the steering column that pops right off and I used an existing screw to ground the wire to the metal behind the trim piece.
Thank you
My harness has 2 plain yellow wires but the actual connector only has one so should I connect all 3 together or just choose one?
Casey Spivey That's odd. I would choose one then if that don't work then try the other one.
What sound is your dash board making at 11:22 of the video @tonythetruckguy
That's my stomach! Haha just kidding. It's the blend doors for the HVAC returning to neutral position. Seems to be a common issue that usually means the blend doors are broken.
The extra plug is for disc changer anyway to use this or do i have to buy a different disc changer?
I never used my disc changer anyways because I had my iPod but I think you would loose that function.
Where did you get the mount that fully ready and set . The ones I fine is a kit and I have to put together .Because I'm looking everywhere and I seem to not find one .
+Samuel Figuereo I had to put the metal and plastic pieces together as demonstrated in the video. I purchased all of my supplies at Best Buy.

madmanownzall Should work as long as you get the module I showed.
Where do you ground the blAck wire im having so much trouble only gotten it to work plugged into the amp wire but I have an after market sub and wanna use that
Jarred Owen The black wire is ground, splice it to the factory black wire on the vehicle side or hook it to something metal in the dash.
Did you drill a hole in the firewall for your power wire on your subs??
Gus Wendt Down by the pedals there's a few rubber plugs in the firewall, I poked a hole through one of those and ran the cable out.

My jeep has a pinout for a cd changer thats located in the back. The wiring harness that i bought has a orange wire that goes to nothing and nothing for the cd changer's pinout.
Yeah I can't recall without watching my video. It I don't think I connected an orange either.
so all the parts you listed should fit an 01 jeep grand Cherokee?
Yep.
+PkwyDr thanks a lot man
Good video.
I'm watching this video so I can remove the aftermarket Kenwood unit and put the stock radio back in. Because I freakin hate aftermarket radios lol
This is a nice tutorial video, but I do have a question concerning installation parts. Can any stereo be used?
Thanks!
D_ Singleton21 You can pick what ever streo you want, should be similar steps.
i am in the process of wiring my radio now and i had all the wires hooked together but when i plug it all in i have no sound?
What kind of Jeep and aftermarket stereo do you have?
I got it fixed thank you though
hah no problem. What was it?
I have a 2003 grand Cherokee. I don't remember what kind of stereo it was is, but I do have another problem, my speakers suck lol. They start to crackle when I turn it up.
carissa novak your coil in your speaker is going out. Get new ones
What about the stock amplifier?
Never messed with it
On the WJ 99-04 grand Cherokees do u kno if u can still use the factory volume controls on the steering wheel with an aftermarket headlight or only with the stock one?
Skip to 10:35 in the video.
Shane Miller as long as you have a signal wire running from the signal port on the aftermarket amp to your blue wire on the stereo you should be fine.
Yes sir all hooked up working fabulous need to replace these damn tweeters
Thank you for the video but only thing I didn't do was not hook up the power antenna LOL
Shane Miller yeah those tweeters are garbage. i replaced mine with these guys 9 months and they're working great www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004309LTE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
How did you run your RCA cables through the dash when you put your subs in? Cause im putting subs in my car and i wanna know a good way
Gus Wendt Sorry I just noticed your comments in the pending section.
I don't know if there is a wire specifically for the CD player itself but everything on my radio works except for the CD player the CD player was in my car 2002 Mitsubishi Galant which worked in that and my Jeep is a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo and won't work in here
+Brandon B. Irish Doesn't make sense. As long as the rest of the radio is functioning the CD should work, if not, the CD player is junk.
+Brandon B. Irish make sure you hooked up ground and remote amp wires (black.... blue)
did you have a black wire that had a black connector say amp on it that was just on a metal tab on the factory radio? if you did did you ground the wire or leave it hanging?
I had a black wire with a metal ring connector on the end of it and I grounded it.
+PkwyDr thank you. this has been the most helpful video on TH-cam!
What might I check if the power keeps going off?
Like the radio keeps turning on then shutting off on its own?
If the power to the deck keeps jumping on and off, then you should check the wires in the back. Try turning it on a jiggling the wires around to see if it shorts out when you move a specific wire. Once you figure out which wire is the problem, then change out that part.
Thanks!! I used your video and I installed it in my 2000 Grand Cherokee.
Kinda glad someone has the same car i do and its possible thanks
what does it mean to ground the black wire
Daniel Gauthier everything needs a power and ground to work, the red and yellow wires are your switched and constant power, the black needs to be connected to a ground, either connect it to the factory harness black wire or secure it to a screw or bolt on something metal in the dash.
where is the amp mounted? it's hiden somwhear..i can't find it
Factory amp is under the rear seats if you have one.
Under the rear passenger seat bottom
Very good video, but what about cruiser control? Does it still works ?
Never had an issue with cruise not working and haven’t heard of anyone else with that issue after this.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy great!!!! Thanks mate it's my turn to swap the radio haha
Good luck, let me know if you need any assistance.
My radio is like that one but instead of 1 clip thing in the back mine has 3 and I have no idea what to do
Jacob buehrer what year is yours?
99 limited
I got it I just cut out the factory amp and rewire everything because it was the infinity gold series
What if instead of just the face of the new stereo, you have the entire box of it as well. I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I was just wondering if your be able to help me out or if I'm better off having someone else install?
What do you mean the entire box? Like a double din or touch screen radio?
I have a JGC 2001 and after this video I saw how ez it was to take out the radio.I ordered a refurbushed radio online with a cd player w/cassete (current only has cassete),when i recieved it the connections for the harness was not the same .does it matter what year the radio is? i want to keep a stock look.
So the radio you have now is a factory radio, but has different connectors than your old one?
@@TonyTheTruckGuy yes the connections on my 2001 jgc radio runs across the back and has 2 prongs of equal width the radio i bought had connection holes up n down r/side of radio thanks for any help
Can you post the links of where you got the accessories? ?... I am installing a double din soon and would like the correct parts....thanks awsome video
Just posted all the part numbers into the video description.
when i removed my factory radio it had the antanna and three different plugs and im assuming a ground that was clipped onto a hanging tab i connected all the correct wires except on the new deck there wasnt a tab to clip it to or there wasnt a plug in for the other cord that was disconnected when i pit everything back it powered on and everything came on except no sound and a message said no service but antanna was plugged on all the way any idea what it could be
2000 jeep gran cherokee
+Dennis Josjor I'm a little confused by what's going on, there's too many variables. Wiring harness should match color for color and the black wire needs to be grounded. Not sure what tabs you are speaking of. Also not sure what radio you have but any radio I've ever seen has static if there's no signal, never heard of "no service"
Yea i definitely worded that wrong lol i fixed the issue but it was set on blue tooth mode and no phone was connected the ground had a end clip which clipped onto a random tab on the frame of the deck i just cut it and hooked it to the other ground wires
+Dennis Josjor so everything works now? 👍
Very informative. Does the filler panel fit for JVC stereo? I just bought JVC single din built in Bluetooth
The same filler panel SHOULD work for all single din radios.
dam. mine didn't come with that faceplate thing, it just had the square piece that you stated was for older models. and it wasn't wide enough so it has a small gap on each side.
My 03 doesn't have steering wheel controls. But has the infinity sound system with amp. Do I still need to purchase a special interface?
Wow I think that’s the first time I’ve heard of premium audio with no steering controls lol. The interface (ASWC-1) is just for the steering controls, so you shouldn’t need that.
Do I need to buy the car installation kit for my 99 grand Cherokee limited or no?
all you need is what I used if you are referring to the tools, a flat head will work instead of my orange pry bar
PkwyDr got it thanks
One last thing @ 4:05 the car installation kit do I need that too or no?
PrettyFlaco305 Yes, that's the filler panel (black plastic piece) that fills the gap between the radio and the dash.
did you solve the buzzing (ground hum)
David Carpenter No I just dealt with it, but someone on here said maybe the gain on my aftermarket amp was set too high.
very helpful, but I did everything you said and I'm getting power to the radio but I'm not getting anything out of my speakers, could the stock factory Infinity amp be affecting anything?
The amp could be bad but if everything worked before you swapped the radio then I find that unlikely unless you crossed some wires and blew a fuse. See if there's a fuse on the amp and check the ones on the radio itself. If all fuses are good then check the Jeep fuse panel and see if the radio one is blown. If your issue still isn't resolved, you must have a crossed wire, bad ground or no power at your yellow and red wires.
You have to hook up the Blue wire to the Blue and White wire. That will power on the Infinity amp that is stock and you will get sound.
It was a great video. Thank you but as the stereo that installed was smaller than the original stereo, what do you do with the gap?
Filler panel 😁
i hooked my 10.1 inch radio and had to hook reds with yellows why would i have to do that to get power to me radio
Should be yellow to yellow and red to red, one is constant power and the other is switched power. Check fuses and see if any are blown.
Tony The Truck Guy only way I can get my radio to work is if reds and yellows are crimped together????
Yes, all of the other parts should work for almost any other radio.
This may be a dumb question, I've never put in a head unit how exactly do I ground the black wire?
If there's a black wire on the factory harness, just hook black to black. If not, all you do is run the black wire from the head unit to a known good ground, usually via a ring connector. I usually run it to something like the battery ground post, frame, engine block or even something metal in the dash that's grounded.
I was curious too, until I found there is a black wire on the harness, had me concerned I was going to have to find/make a ground
Do I need all these adapter pieces if I don't get this type of stereo
Pre 2002 has a different wire plug an you don't need an adapter for the antenna
what if the amp under the rear seat goes bad??
I'm not sure what would happen, I would think they have it wired so the speakers still work but just won't be aplified.
Tony The Truck Guy thanks so much that helps a lot
I’m very confused now. Do you have a Facebook or anything? I have an account on there you could post a picture of what you’re talking about.
Very informative. Just don't forget to hook up that ground! I forgot on a 1988 Plymouth and I ended up catching the CD player on fire...
excellent installation video.
+Alex Escobar I left the factory amp alone when I did my subs, as they only power the speakers. I then added another amp to power just the subs.
i know this is an old video, but just taking a shot. I bought a wire harness and it has two 12v constant yellow wires. there is only one yellow on the harness that came with the aftermarket stereo. do i run both yellow to the single yellow or just tape one off and run 1 to 1
If you have a red and 2 Yellow’s, I’d tape off one of the yellows. Kind of strange it has 2, I haven’t run into that before.
I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee will this adapter work on this and where did you get it and yes that extra plug is for your changer
Tony The Truck Guy the problem is that I don’t have the place for the Jack on the radio.
The black wire with the male plug on the end? That’s pretty odd.... do the instructions say anything about that?
Do you have to disconnect the battery before doing this or is turning the car off sufficient?
It’s always recommended to disconnect your battery when doing anything electrical, but you should be fine as long as you don’t touch the 2 power wires to anything grounded.
Do I need those special tools to remove the trim or can I use something else?
Anything thin enough to get in there and release the metal retaining tabs.
PkwyDr Ok, thanks!
What’s the brown thing called in the beginning of the video
The piece around the radio? That’s a dash trim piece or “bezel”.
yeah they sell these radio install kits for 19$Walmart. scosche and another brand.or u can get the prybar kit for 8$
Thanks for the video. Is there space behind the stereo? Can the antenna adapter plug be straight, not like the metra one which is under an 90degree angle. Will the stereo fit in then, or it's pretty against the plastic behind?
Thanks.
+MustAccord Should have room for a straight one if you can push all the wires out of the way.
+PkwyDr thanks, the ASWC-1 steering wheel controller fits behind nicely as well?
+MustAccord I wouldn't say it's a perfect fit but I didn't tinker with it too long I just crammed everything in and I was able to get my radio in all the way without any issues.
+PkwyDr I am just going through this now. You said that you didn't use the Black and Brown wires. There are two yellow wires as well (Battery/Constant), did you use both of them or only one? I put these two yellow ones together and connected to the yellow one (3 yellow cables together)
I connected my ASWC-1 pink cable to the brown cable on that plug, as it goes to pin 14 on the stock plug.
Could you provide a written list of all the parts you bought to do this?
Just posted all the part numbers into the video description.
How Do You Know If You Have The One Plug Or 2 Plug, When Your Going To Buy Your Working Harness?
I’m not positive if there’s certain years that had each style but I would just pull the 1 trim panel and 4 screws for the radio to pull it out and verify.
What is the name of this radio?
Megan Lucy Sony CDX-GT710HD
Is it the same process if I have the infinity gold system??
I can't remember if mine had that system or not. And honestly, I can't remember the difference between the gold system and the normal one haha. Steps should be the same, I would just double check part numbers by typing in your specific year/make/model/trim.
Ok thanks
Just wondering what did all the kit parts cost? Just bought a 99 laredo yesterday..
It’s been a while so I can’t recall exactly. The steering wheel control module was $50 alone but I don’t believe your Laredo will need that. I would say about $50 between the antenna adapter, filler panel kit, harness adapter and the wire connectors. Plus the cost of your radio.
Tony The Truck Guy yeah i got the same setup u have. Thanks bud
I have a JVC Deck, and I'm installing a system in my 99 Jeep Cherokee. Will I still need an antenna adapter?
+Cameron Cannon from what I've seen the antenna adapter is only needed from 02 and up grand Cherokees. I'm getting ready to put a new radio in my 2000 and didn't get the antenna adapter.
How do you get the remote wire through the panels? I can’t find a spot to get it to come through
The blue one for the amp?
where can I buy a factory adoptor
Which adapter?
a jeep cherokee sport
+KEEM G'ee I get all my stuff at Best Buy.
