I am a new Ryker rider, but have been riding motorcycles for over 35 years. Thank you Beth, this is great information. The dealer charges are very high for this service and I was looking to doing this oil change myself. Love your step by step videos. Please keep them coming.
Thanks again! Just changed my oil at 3650! Very helpful. I didnt jack it up, just drove up on 2x4s and hand enough room to get under and complete the job.
OMG this is awesome! I am going to print this comment, enlarge it, frame it and display it proudly in my living room!!! That's the best!! Thank you!! lol
Thank you so much, Beth & Jason. I just completed my very first oil & oil filter change...it took close to 2 hours due to looking for right size of tools but I know that it will be done in 30 minutes next time. Thanks again for very detailed video.👍
Good job. Changing your own oil can be a right of passage for the new rider. It allows you to get more familiar with your bike by seeing and touching parts that you normally wouldn't. For me, it provides a deeper feeling of ownership and oneness with your ride. Unfortunately I get to pay full price for all my service needs at my local dealership because of my physical limitations. One helpful hint my father passed on to me is using a cheap plastic drop cloth (5 for $5 at lowes) to cover the area under your pan and Ryker. That'll keep you from getting those errant oil drips from used gloves, drain plugs, and splashes from the drain pan on the driveway or garage floor. Another great video. Thanks
Hi Kevin!!! That was written so well and perfectly captures how I felt changing the oil. It is definitely a feeling of oneness with the bike. Well said! Your dad was a smart man! I put a garbage bag down, but clearly wasn't enough. Had to run out and buy the sand to clean up my oil spills. It worked great and I now have 10 lbs of it!! lol I wish you lived closer, I would gladly change your oil for you. Now that I have done it, the next time will be a breeze...especially if I am not recording and talking my way through it! Stay well my friend!
Awesome video, Beth (& Jason)! Just the video I wanted to see. It showed me everything I needed to know before jumping into this job myself. Thanks, as always.
You guys are simply the best. Your videos are always comprehensive with the camera angles and the explanations. I really enjoy how you take us through the journey of the potential hiccups we would most likely come across as well, since not everyone was born a professional mechanic. Thank you for this.
I got my first bike (crf250l) in May and now I want to buy matching rykers for me and my wife!! even learning how to change oil before I buy them. lol loving your channel, bingeee watching!!
Good job! FYI: I do believe that when you're changing the oil filter - push the new filter into the cover and then place both back in. This way the filter is aligned with no problem. I hope I explained that right. Cheers!
Nice to meet you Jason thank you for making this video Beth. I have a new Riker I bought it last fall and I’ll be doing my oil change soon so thank you. I am Richie from Long Island New York it’s just getting warm enough this week to start riding👍🏻
Hey Beth, excellent video as always.. I'm now officially part of The Ryker Revolution!! Got my 900 yesterday, took my maiden voyage today..raining like crazy in Dallas...keep up the great, as well as hard, work 🤙🤠👊
How did I miss the jacking up the Ryker video. Now I’m going to have to search for it. Great job and very ambitious. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. First time foe shoes too. 😄
Just fyi, always inspect your mag plug for dissimilar metals, check the bottom of the drained oil pan and inspect your used oil filter by scanning between the filter luivers. Just a good indicator of your internal engine health and only takes a second. Enjoyed the video
Is Jason a motorcycle mechanic? He is very knowledgeable. A pretty lady like you amazes me how good you are at working on your bike! I use to change my own oil on my bikes but since I am so far and with bad knees I can't do it anymore. I use to enjoy doing it. You have the most informative Ryker show.
Such an excellent and well done video Beth! Thank you for all the time, effort and quality you place into your videos. I want to say thanks to your camera guy too.
you are such an awesome young lady with so much charm in your videos, and your husband seems to be just as awesome as you. many Blessings to you both and thanks as always.
Next time you have a loose torques bit take a piece of paper put it on one side of the bit fold it over the top stick it in the socket and it won’t fall out
Hi, so what did you learn while you were doing this the first time because i can tell that you did learn some things but i think listing them would help you and everyone else. Thanks Beth & Jason. There are way too many people who dont know how to do basic maintainance on their car, or motorcycle.....
Don't know if those are the steps recommended in the owners manual, but it would probably be more efficient to pull the oil filter cover before draining the system. Thanks for the video and tips.
Does oil get into your skid plate also when you open the bolt, mine does and starts leaking when I stop the bike in my garage from different holes in the skid plate lol it gets annoying!! Haha the first time freaked me out when I seen it.
I haven't done and oil change with the skid plate on it yet. The skid plate is very easy to take on and off. Once a year, it may just work better to take it off.
Rapid Tac is your friend. For the future obviously. It allows placement easily and dries fast ensuring a good bond. I use it for vynal and window tint. Just thought I would share.
Great video. I do have one suggestion (only because you have a beautiful brick driveway). Lay a big piece of cardboard down under the front end to catch the drips from the drain plugs, etc. Big enough to set you oil drain pan and oily tools, drain bolts, etc. so your driveway brick don't get oil stained.
what part did fido play? make sure you don't over fill with oil, allow for the filter to fill with oil once the engine, as when it fill s, the oil level will drop, thanks great video,
The jacks look a little shaky. Tell Jason to buy ramps or make a Ryker oil change pit. Wouldn’t want to lose a gem of a wife like Beth. Excellent video and audio quality.
Great video Beth! Thanks for sharing........... next time flatten a cardboard box and lay it on your driveway under the Ryker in order to protect that beautiful interlocking brick surface
Thanks Beth for the video! I was wondering how hard it is to change oil and filter. One thing I noticed Can Am has the specs for the Bolts. They had 30 NM or 22lbs ok then 15 NM or 18 lbs. The math doesn't work. I looked it up and it is 11 lbs for 15 NM. I know it doesn;t matter. You seemed very happy or I should almost say giddy, working with your husband. I just picked up my Rally today and yes I'm at work, but tomorrow I took the day off to ride. The first thing I did was to try out the horn. I am still laughing about the no horn situation. Thanks again
Hi Harry! To be completely honest (as you can probably tell from the video) I have no clue about NM. I basically just tightened everything really well! Yes the horn is a joke. Replacing it, should be the first thing anyone does! SUPER easy! Have fun tomorrow on your new Rally! So exciting! Congratulations!!
You said, check the oil level WHILE running? Is that right? Shouldn't it be, after running, to fill oil filter reservoir. Then, let sit, so all oil in top end can drain down into 'pan'?
You want to drive for at least 10 miles to properly warm up your bike, do not let it sit and run because it will create moisture in the oil. Just FYI never run you bike or go for a ride that is less than 10 miles because of the moisture. Great video
What if I bought my Ryker 2 years ago in it's first year and only rode it about 700 miles? Garaged in winter in unheated garage. Do I need to change my oil due to time or can I wait until I get 5000 miles on it?
Sorry for the delayed response. My friend is in the ICU from a bad accident. Yes, change the oil, it has been sitting too long. I change mine once a year no matter what.
Hi Beth & Jason. I have just brought a 600 Ryker here in Australia, if you don't get your services done by the dealer or registered mechanic, you will void you warranty...! Is this not the same in America...? Tez WA
Hi Terry in Australia! Congratulations on your purchase!! Great question. If you have an extended warranty with your dealership, they may require you to get your service done there. I do not have the extended warranty, and my can am warranty expired....
I really don't think so. If you watch my video, you will see how much more comes out with the second plug. Maybe if you tilted the bike it would all come out?
@@RykerRydes Thanks for responding. Just to clarify the old oil remains in reservoir, does not drain out like you would expect. I use a turkey baster to remove as much as possible so as not to contaminate the new oil, before installing the new filter. Thanks
Great information Beth, thanks so much. Could you also do a video on how to check tyre pressure and adjust the air either way please? That would be great xx
You should always crack open 20:01 the dipstick plug during draining to allow the oil to drain more freely as well. Same philosophy as removing the filter to allow more free flow.
Great video. Love what you do. Just as a precaution: the 2021 Rykers require 2.98 quarts of oil vs 3.5 quarts I 2019 and 2020. There were changes in 2021, such as a larger gas tank (no longer cap less). Just make sure to check the owners manual.
Scott, thank you for your comment. But from everything I have read and been told, those are just rumors and not true at all (except the gas tank is no longer cap less). Same size gas tank and same size *engine (same amount of oil). *900 requires more than the 600 If you look on the Can-Am website, it shows only 2 variations of oil change kits: 600 and 900. All models, all years
@@RykerRydes I wish I could show you the owners manual of a 2021 Ryker Rally, but it states 2.98 quarts for 900. Irregardless of what these rumors are out there. People need to make sure they read the owners manual first. I checked the oil after I changed it adding 3 quarts and it was in the middle of the dip stick. PS the ECM is different in 2021 over 2020. I had BLR tuning performed mine and had to wait until he could 2021 based on this per Bill Ramsey. So there a number of differences in the 2021 model. I hope that people check their owners manual before doing items like oil changes. I am not sure why their website does not post the differences. I guess there is a reason not to trust the internet.
Also I looked at my manual for the 2021, the 600 requires 2.5 L (2.64qt.- imagine trying to measure that out) and 900 reared 2.8L (2.96 quarts not 2.98quarts as stated above - I used my memory). I bought synthetic oil and they sent me 4 quarts. I sent a photo of the 2021 manual oil change through Facebook. I guess I get to save a quart per oil change for my 2021😎.
Maybe you could do a quick video of the oil checking procedure as this is a dry sump engine and is different than most are used to. I ride at least 7 miles and let idle for one minute, then turn off and check within 10 seconds, this is what my 5 star dealer showed me
Your dealer is 100% right. Most dealerships don't even tell people. I did mention at the end the video how to check the oil and to make sure it is warmed up prior to checking!
Ahhh the big oil change debate..... my experience: I changed my oil for the first time at 4,000 miles and I now have close to 25,000 miles on her and running great. My manual (2019) states the first oil change should be done at 6,000 miles or 1 year (whichever comes first). I do believe the newer manuals state that the oil should be changed after the break in period. My 2 cents: It can never hurt the bike to do too many oil changes. Is it necessary at 200 miles?...not sure. If you can afford it, or are able to do it yourself, why not do it. The bike does come with a magnetic drain plug that will catch any metal shavings that may come off during the break in period. Bottom line, changing the oil is probably the single best thing you can do for your Ryker. I do it once a season, if it needs it or not.
Does the 900cc have a wet clutch? I am getting a Ryker this weekend and I always put Liquid Moly on my vehicles. Have you tried adding some to the Ryker?
Hi there. The Ryker does not have a clutch. I personally just use can am’s recommend brand of oil. I have never tried Liquid Molly. You may want to call them directly and get their opinion. 1-888-MOLYOIL (665-9645)
Did you change your oil after the break in period which from what I read in my wife’s manual for her Ryker is 300km (we’re Canadian)or about 180 miles. Or was this your first oil change here? Thanks.
Just checked out this question in Spyderlovers forums and it looks like we can wait till at least 3000 miles, pretty sure it will happen before then but not 300 km.
Hi Wally! No you don’t need to do an oil change after the break in period. Could you share what page in the manual you read that. And yes, that was my first oil change.
Ryker Rydes It say on pg 36 that after the break in period , 300 km, the vehicle should be inspected as per the Maintenance Schedule. So I was unsure if the meant to treat that point like a regular maintenance point, which would include an oil change or wait till 10000km, 6000 miles hence the question. I felt 300 was way to short but I also will be doing a change well before the 10000 km point, or should I say my wife will. It’s her bike and she is very inspired by all you videos and wants to do her own wrenching on the bike too. Just would like to say we both really enjoy all of your videos and will be watching for more throughout our Alberta winter. We had hoped to take our bikes to AZ this winter but unless the borders open up and the numbers get better in AZ, looks like we’ll be spending it up in Canada this year. Thanks again.
Hi, great videos. On my 2021 ryker rally manual page 102 I see they suggested 2.8 liters (2.96qt) of oil but on your video you said 3.5 liters (3.7qt) of oil. I'm cracking my head here. Could you please tell me how much oil did you get in your oil change kit since the website doesn't really tell you the amount of oil in the box.
Excellent video. One question . . . in which of your other videos do you show jacking up the ryker? None of them seem to have that as a title. Keep up the great work.
New to me 2022 Ryker 900 Sport as of a week ago, and a question about oil. Saw the XPS kit in Amazon but if I wanted to get items separately, curious if the 5-40wt synthetics, “European labeled” oils I’m finding in the parts stores suitable for the 900 Ryker? They do have the API SN classification. TIA
Frequent oil changes are the best & cheapest maintenance for any motor. Personally I'd aim at 3000 miles for any motorcycle , regardless of manufacturures claims & then change filter at alternate oil changes.
@@RykerRydes I had mine in the driveway on two car ramps...not bad. What was bad , was I didn't choose the oil pan with the open bottom. I selected the one that pooled with a cap. BAD IDEA!! When that oil started to poor out, it came out too fast to go down in that tiny hole. It went EVERYWHERE 😂😂. Thank God for Dawn dish liquid. Those bolts were super tight. You did a great job! Kudo's too Mr Ryker Rides for keeping you safe with the jack set up. My hubby did the same for me. 😊
If the oil is leaking from the plug underneath after an oil change, is it possible the plug is too tight or not tight enough? Trying to debate whether I can just tighten it myself or return it to the dealership where they’ll have it for too long
It could definitely be that the plug is not on tight enough. Hopefully that’s what it is and not that you put the bolt in at angle and stripped the oil pan. 😬 Keep me posted.
@@RykerRydes thank you, I am going to check tonight. I had the dealership do the oil change but had I watched this video, I would have saved myself the time and money. I’ve learned my lesson
On a cold engine the oil will just be on the end of dip stick. Per BRP when checking engine oil level Ryker should be on level surface, engine must be hot at operating temp(ride 9 miles), turn engine off check oil level within 10 seconds of engine shut off. Between the MIN and MAX lines is 500 cc/ml or 16 oz. If you check the Ryker cold the normal level will show just touching the end of the dipstick if you start to add to bring to full you just added half a quart and a butt load of problems.
If you ordered from the links I posted in the description(600 vs 900 are different links and different oil amounts) then you use the entire amount. It is pre-measured.
18:25 I just got a 2023 rally and it didn't come with the funnel. Anyone know where I can buy one? I asked my dealer but he keep telling me "I'll look in to it for you".
Been seeing people use rotella t-6 5w40, anyone have opinion on it. Seems to be better oil than semi synthetic and meets specs. Is also $22 for 5 quart jug, oem filter is $12, just need washers and seal. So you could save over 1/2, or buy 3 jugs $66, 3 pack filters, and get 3 oil changes for price of about 1 kit.
This is the “How to” video that pretty much every Ryker owner has been waiting for. Well done Beth! Stay Safe 🙏🏻

Hi Terry in Australia! Congratulations on your purchase!! Great question. If you have an extended warranty with your dealership, they may require you to get your service done there. I do not have the extended warranty, and my can am warranty expired....
Wow, we have a three year factory warranty from BRP in OZ...! How long do you get over in the USA..?
What if you forget to take out the 2nd drain plug? Does all the oild still come out?
I really don't think so. If you watch my video, you will see how much more comes out with the second plug. Maybe if you tilted the bike it would all come out?
What method do you use to remove oil from the filter housing before removing the filter so you do not make a big mess? Great vid. Thanks
I just use a rag to remove it, then immediately place it in a plastic grocery bag. Seems to work well.
Great idea! Thanks for watching!
Thank you!!!! My local dealership quoted me $600
You got this!!! Thanks for watching!!
have a new 900 ryker. have you changed/added/or checked your gear oil?
No, but I will! Thanks for letting me know!
You should always crack open 20:01 the dipstick plug during draining to allow the oil to drain more freely as well. Same philosophy as removing the filter to allow more free flow.
That's a great tip, thanks for sharing!
One other reason to oil up your O-rings is to keep them binding up between surfaces while tightening which can in some times can cause a leak.
Great point!! Thank you.
Thank you for your information on changing the oil Beth. So I don’t have to Peruse the Internet to figure everything out
My pleasure, that’s why I do the videos! Happy to help!!
Nice video, good job Beth! Nicely done. Great hubby support!
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching

Could you please post the kit name/number you purchased for amazon ? :)
Done!
You Can get the kit on Can am catalog for 2020 the number is 779299.
I posted the link in the comments.
*900 requires more than the 600
If you look on the Can-Am website, it shows only 2 variations of oil change kits: 600 and 900.
@@C8Z51Scott that is so interesting. I will look into this more. I appreciate your comment.
@@C8Z51Scott can-am sells pre measured kits for the 600 and 900
Maybe you could do a quick video of the oil checking procedure as this is a dry sump engine and is different than most are used to. I ride at least 7 miles and let idle for one minute, then turn off and check within 10 seconds, this is what my 5 star dealer showed me
Oh and great videos by the way! And after seeing your oil at 4,000 miles im not going to wait until 6,000
Your dealer is 100% right. Most dealerships don't even tell people. I did mention at the end the video how to check the oil and to make sure it is warmed up prior to checking!
Actually the funnel is for the gas tank to open the flap ,
Correct, if you are using the red gas container. But the funnel is not meant for filling up at the gas station.
Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to show us how
My absolute pleasure!

Fantastic video! This is exactly what I was looking for. Really great job!
Glad it was helpful!
Have always enjoyed your videos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you soooooo much!
Great video thank you. I’m now confident I can do it myself and save some money. Plus it looks like fun 😁
It WAS fun! If I can do it, you can too!!
Should I change my oil for the first time at 200 miles right after the brake in period
Does anyone know where you can get the oil kit from in Australia?
You should be able to buy a kit where you bought your bike?
Hey Jason! Thank you guys for this video. You guys are goofy. I am a few miles from 3000 so I will be able to study this video before then.
Hi Kelvin!!
Yup, we are goofy 🙃!!! It was a fun project!!
So there’s two air filter? There’s also one on the left
Yes. Thanks for watching!
What is the part number on the oil filter? I think it takes the same filter as my can am maverick 1000r. Thanks
Filter part # CM - 9910 for K&N
I love this woman! Keep up the great videos.
Wow!!!! Thank you!!!! I love you too!!! 🥰
Excellent video. One question . . . in which of your other videos do you show jacking up the ryker? None of them seem to have that as a title.
Keep up the great work.
I was going to release that vid next week. Unless you need it sooner?
@@RykerRydes , Nah. I guess I misunderstood. Now I understand why I had not seen that one before. Thanks, Beth.
TIA
As long as it meets the same specs as the xps, it should be just fine. I have used AMSoil SAE 10w-40 💯 synthetic and was very pleased.
Great job Beth
Thanks so much for watching!
Frequent oil changes are the best & cheapest maintenance for any motor. Personally I'd aim at 3000 miles for any motorcycle , regardless of manufacturures claims & then change filter at alternate oil changes.
I couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching.
Hey sweetie thanx for this video and info
Thanks so much!
How about resetting the oil change reminder on the computer? Did you figure out how to do that?
Interesting, I have not had the code come up on mine yet. I have heard that if you disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, it will reset the code?
Awesome job! Yours went a heck of a lot smoother than my self change. 😳😂
Really? What happened?
@@RykerRydes I had mine in the driveway on two car ramps...not bad. What was bad , was I didn't choose the oil pan with the open bottom. I selected the one that pooled with a cap. BAD IDEA!! When that oil started to poor out, it came out too fast to go down in that tiny hole. It went EVERYWHERE 😂😂. Thank God for Dawn dish liquid.
Those bolts were super tight. You did a great job! Kudo's too Mr Ryker Rides for keeping you safe with the jack set up. My hubby did the same for me. 😊
@@thasfun Ugg what a mess that must have made!
I have a 2022 rally with 350
Miles. Being store for winter now. Do I change the oil even though the mileage is so low?
Yes, change the oil every year, whether it needs it or not. I’d do it at the start of every riding season.
How are you ? Hello from New Jersey I have the ryker rally 900 Question when can I do my first oil change ?
Hi there. You can change your oil at any time. For specific details and how to….check out the video. Lots of info in there.
Thanks 🙏🏼
Awesome video! Where did you get your blue accent pieces? They look amazing!!
Thank you, they are from a car tinting place called 'Tint World'
On a cold engine the oil will just be on the end of dip stick. Per BRP when checking engine oil level Ryker should be on level surface, engine must be hot at operating temp(ride 9 miles), turn engine off check oil level within 10 seconds of engine shut off. Between the MIN and MAX lines is 500 cc/ml or 16 oz. If you check the Ryker cold the normal level will show just touching the end of the dipstick if you start to add to bring to full you just added half a quart and a butt load of problems.
justicecenter you are 💯 correct!
hi. what size of torque wrench did you use. 3/8 1/4 or 1/2 inch? thank you in advance.
I am going to have to go back and check. Sorry I don't have that info at the moment.
So do i use 2.5 quarts of oil? I ordered the oil change kit off Amazon. Should i use all of the oil or just 2.5?
If you ordered from the links I posted in the description(600 vs 900 are different links and different oil amounts) then you use the entire amount. It is pre-measured.
Was that your first oil change or did you have to do a break-in oil change at 600 miles like the dealer wants but the manual never mentions ?
Hey John. This was my first oil change as per the manual. A lot of people do the oil change after breaking it in....I did not. But, it can never hurt.
When is the recommended time or mileage to change oil?
6,000 miles
@@RykerRydes Thank you.
Very good and informative! Thank you for this. Question about how many miles can you go on a full tank?
Hi Thanks for watching! I get about 110-1120 miles on a full tank. But I do a lot of hwy riding.
@@RykerRydes 1,120 miles for a full tank? Jesus, please tell me what kind of fuel you're using!
18:25 I just got a 2023 rally and it didn't come with the funnel. Anyone know where I can buy one? I asked my dealer but he keep telling me "I'll look in to it for you".
Sorry but only the ‘19s and ‘20s came with a funnel. I don’t know of anyone that sells that specific funnel.
Don't use the diesel oil. Wasn't made for the foaming that happens at high rpm. I run Pennzoil full synthetic or castrol
If you’re looking for just the oil filter and washers, I sell them on my website: RykerRydes.com
