    This man hits the nail on the head, money and publicity, the only things Paul Watson wanted out of this stunt. Had to keep the "floating circus" afloat whilst the japanese whalers weren't out and about anymore.
    What will PW's next outragous move be? is he going to try and keep alligators from taking zebra's, or prevent the lion from taking wildebeest?

    The issue is that when some people say the Faroese way of harvesting of pilot whales is a tradition, many ill informed misinterpretative it as if the faroes do it just because its a tradition. Thats a misunderstanding. Its solely done because its free food. Like fishing., where harvesting methods have also adjusted in times.You may disagree on the methods and all, but the use of he word "tradition", makes many misunderstand whats going on. Primary reason is because its just food for them.

    Hitler reference by Breckmann has indeed a point. Until WWII, the slaughter and meat processing industry in many parts of Europe were largely carried out by hardworking Jewish community. It is meaningful to consider what made the sense of discrimination. By the way, who knows that the vegetables don't have pain when they are eaten?

    Ya I understand , some just don't believe in killing animals for food , and that is totally fine . But I'm just letting you know that they never will . It's their source of food , and the only way they will ever stop is if it runs out , which it probably never will.

    movement in the Philippines (primarily brought on by the outcome of the war) caused the us to give up control of the islands, so you could say the us lost the Philippines as a result of ww2. In addition to that, the us lost tens of thousands of American lives and thousands of vehicles and aircraft on foreign battlefields.

    Soon after Japan attacked pearl harbor, the Japanese captured numerous Islands in the pacific that were at that time US territories. These include Guam, The Philippines etc. and they weren't returned to US control until near the end of the war when the US pacific forces retook them. A few years after the war an independence.... She claims SS has been successful... but... where is this success?
    More whaling happens today than in 1977. Sealing hasn't stopped either.
    The Baiji went extinct, and the Hectors and Vaquita are on the verge of joining it.
    He's made a lot of headlines and bought a multi-million dollar ranch... so I suppose the Faroese politician is right.
    Success for SS is evidently measured in terms of Watson's offshore bank accounts.

    If you look up "Bullock, Alan (1993). Hitler and Stalin : Parallel Lives. Vintage." on page 679 you can read that Hitler regarded himself as a vegetarian
    But on Wikipedia it also says that
    "British historian Alan Bullock argues that Hitler would not allow the use of a tape recorder and that the written transcripts were edited by Bormann"
    And Óli Breckmann has a MA in English and an BS social science from Bristol University, so i think that he would know it better then you??

    Its still a food source. Its one of the only food source they dont have to import. Its not like they do this year round. And these people have the kill worked down to a science. Its very quick and quite painless. They have to be specially trained before they can do the actual killing. They do not outsource the meat. Hunting has never been a pretty sight. All animals including us feel fear. Id be scared if i ran into a Grizzly or cougar in the woods. Its just the cycle of life.

    No one first disrespected you so there is no need to disrespect. Yes its a tradition but its not FOR tradition. It is for food, ya it's been around a long time but that doesn't mean we do it just because we always have, at all. Not trying to be rude at all, just want to inform people the truth before they start attacking us without knowing the true story.I agree, it looks bad b/c all the blood but it's in water, the blood will spread making it seem much worse. It's not torture, just a food chain

    I dont disrespect people until they disrespect me. And no i dont eat meat. You say its not for tradition but many other people from the faroe islands say it is. Its something you have been doing for 100's of years so i would say that it has become a tradition. I do think the faroe islands looks like a beautiful place,its just that what you do to whales shows the ugly side of it.

    I'm not only talking about present, but past as well. I know that you're not hating on the Faroes, but the fact that we (I do agree to some point) kill whales, in a rather brutal manner. (It has to be noted that our ways have been improved). Sadly, others aren't as open minded as you are, and jump to conclusions right away, and that is the real problem. Everyone can have their own opinion, just as I'm trying to explain my points, you try to explain yours.

    nature is kinda like religion. You cant pick and choose what you want. You either accept the whole as it is, or dont accept it at all. Both its darkness and its beauty. All animals, including us are part of the food chain. Hunter and prey. Humans can just as easily become prey. All species are equal. I have a huge respect for whales and any other creature. but the hunt has and always will be a part of nature. Its all about balance.

  • @viksixx

    You all need to CALM DOWN! He wasn't being dead serious about Hitler, Faroese Humor. He was just saying that just b/c you eat meat, doesn't make you a horrible person&just b/c you do doesn't make you a good one. (Hitler may have been&he still killed people)
    If you don't,then go attack people who torture animals!
    If you eat meat, then you're the worlds biggest hypocrite, b/c the way animals are raised&slaughtered other places is HORRIBLE! These animals live free, and die instantly, unlike others

    nope it isn't.. and I don't need Wikipedia (I can study elsewhere, especially on italian books, damn we've got the best writers when America was just a theorized dot on an effing map!) to "seem intelligent"... as per Jonas Bronck (without "Ole"), he was born ca. 1600, son of a Lutheran minister, Morten Jespersen Bronck, and was raised in Tórshavn.... and was not at a refugee, because a refugee is a person moving to another nation to seek protection, while Bronk went to America to found NY!!

  • @kristiansen1993
    @kristiansen1993 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    And, caring about wildlife gives him the right to sail into people's boats and ships? Does it give him the right to destroy vessels? You do realize that he was thrown out of GreenPeace because he was too brutal and commited crimes, right? I have nothing against his vision on whaling, it's his opinion, but I do find it quite odd that he has a lot of supporters who just donate blindly, and do not care nor know of his previous actions. We're no worse than he is, and we have to survive, by eating.

  • @animalrights12
    @animalrights12 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    He was an on and off vegetarian, that's a fact. I studied him and WW2 in my history course. Exactly, it is irrelevant, so how does he have a point? I don't believe in killing any being - human or non human! I agree with you on the fact that the rest of the world eats factory farmed meat, eggs and milk, it is equally wrong to do that which is why im a vegan. Can you just answer me this question please - Why do you feel the need to slaughter innocent beings when you don't have to?

    well, it turns out that the "extinct primitive dialect" is much more alive than ever, and has a very rich grammar, with inflections.. definetely one of the most difficult european languages to learn.. whereas I can't say the same for English, which is - linguistically talking - a shit language that is on a free fall since.. uhm.. the Viking age, having lost basically all its grammar rules! You see? Big american boy has a sub-language!! :D

  • @kristiansen1993
    @kristiansen1993 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    And, I myself, being Faroese dislike whaling, not because it's brutal, but because I don't like the food and it brings a bad light on us, and it has stopped many fishing contracts and more, from getting through, but it has been our tradition for many many years, and I guess people are too persistent to move on, but I do dislike the fact that these WhaleWars episodes don't show even half the truth, but hey, what can I do. :-)

  • @vaultkeeper2
    @vaultkeeper2 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    neo nazis would get pissed off if someone joked about nazis, do you think that joking is the same thing as honoring? he was joking because she was vegetarian, in the Scandinavian culture, vegetarians are considered weird and odd, and thereofore perfect to make fun of, just like it's funny to make fun of nazis

    I like the Whale Wars tv episodes, where Sea Shepherd were in Antarctica against the Japanese so called "research". But these "viking shores" episodes against the Faroese seems pointless. Here its just about SS feelings, and not about facts. I love whales, but people also has to live, and most of us live of meat. If its sustainable, as this is, I have no problem with it. Seems like SS is more concerned about being in he tv spotlight, instead of focusing on real endangered animals

  • @animalrights12
    @animalrights12 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    But when innocent beings (in this case whales) are being brutally butchered, it becomes duty to speak out and do everything you can to save them. It could be considered culture to own slaves but that dosen't mean its OK.
    No harm will come from an end to the grind's and animal slaughter so why not just do away with it?
