Each Christmas, I choose a bit of The Nutcracker and watch all the performances that I can find. Last year it was the Hot Chocolate dance. This year it is the Waltz of the Flowers. I watch the professional troops and the schools and the local schools that have few students. It is so instructive to see how the choreography is adjusted to each level of skill. This video by Mariinsky is so beautiful in every way.
I used to take ballet but quit after a year because I couldn't bother to improve my terrible flexibility, but I've seen the Nutcracker ballet twice. When I saw it the second time, there weren't any men dancing with the ladies who were playing as the flowers. Still, very beautiful, now I'm wishing I didn't quit ballet.
Emily Hill I practiced ballet from the age four and pretty much quit at age 17 - my senior year. I was always petite, however, I had this ridiculous growth spur over the summer becoming a junior. I’m 5’11 now. My instructor told me to forget about ballet. This was in 1996 when companies were still particular about size and height. I still put on my toe shoes and leap around the house. I wish I didn’t listen to my instructor. I am beginning to have joint issues in one of my knees. And I suffer with bunions and hammer toes. I am proud of my strange dancers feet.
This is more demure and classical whilst the Bolshoi's is whimsical and graceful. Both are amazing but this seems to go along with the the title, "Waltz" more.
Actually Bolshoi feels a like departure all together since even though it feels like the traditional Nutcracker it puts its own spin on it in certain dances
Before I had pointe shoes I thought ballet was so boring. Until I got them I felt like I was dancing on magic! oh and I felt so tall when I went on my toes.
i just googled ballerina feet.......... Don't do it...lol The dancing is pretty but honestly? i don't think it's worth losing your toenails and having pain all day...
As an American, the Russians have it spades when it comes to ballet. This was in 2012 and it's now 2023. The costumes are brilliant and so are the wigs. Perfection.
Seeing those tight pants is bringing back flashbacks from when I did ballet, the fear or things happening and pure terror of having to wear one in front of friends and family, I saw it as motivation in a way, If I dance correctly and superbly then hopefully nobody will notice how tight that was.
Too wonderful. It's a treasure for humanity. Of course, I have a favorite ballet company in my hometown, but I think it would be better to introduce this choreography and other things.
Whoever edited this new recording of Mariinsky's Nutcracker should be fired... the whole thing has too much closeups that last for too many minutes, ballet is not about faces, it's about the entire body
I noticed the people in the back only after 5 minutes of watching. I don't know whether that is because I have terrible attention to detail or simply because the dance is so enthralling.
Why does the guy on the far right have his feet in opposite 5th then has it correct in the next shot, then has it wrong again at 0:42 ? Is it supposed to be like that?
As a person who never danced ballet, I must state this is as cheesy as I expected ballet to be. :,D Pink tulle dresses, tights and everything. However, I admire a lot how playful and graceful and light they seem while dancing, even though its obvious it must be a great exertion.
A 1934 production by choreographer Vasily Vainonen is being staged at the Mariinsky Theatre, and it is the closest to Lev Ivanov's 1892 original. Choreographer George Balanchine staged a new version of the ballet, which premiered at the New York City Ballet on February 2, 1954.
Can anyone tell me what the end credits song is? I know I've heard it before but I can't remember the name and I've been pouring over classical music for the past two hours and still can't find it, and Shazam does nothing. Please help lol

Emily Hill The massive joint trauma as you age isn't the best thing ever, though 😔

近代バレエとは違い、華やか且つ上品なクラシックバレエが好きです。これほどまでに美しきことに、心打たれない人はいないでしょう。
I love this variation of flowers, I just wished their costumes had more color so that they looked more like flowers and less like snowflakes
Absolutely beautiful. What is it about the rich, velvety tones of a French horn that stirs my soul?

I love to watch different companies and their changes they do with the Nutcracker. This was a very beautiful performance of the Waltz of the Flowers.
It is performed every year in the world but it is especially beautiful!
