- This year’s Battle of the Nutcrackers features four unique and celebrated versions: The Nutcracker (Youri Vámos; 2009), Royal Opera House’s The Nutcracker (2012), Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker, and The Nutcracker: Mariinsky 2012.
Since Tchaikovsky created The Nutcracker almost 125 years ago, it’s become a worldwide sensation. Battle of the nutcrackers is Ovation’s holiday present to the families of America, a playful twist on the holiday tradition. Now in its eighth year.

I love this variation of flowers, I just wished their costumes had more color so that they looked more like flowers and less like snowflakes
Each Christmas, I choose a bit of The Nutcracker and watch all the performances that I can find. Last year it was the Hot Chocolate dance. This year it is the Waltz of the Flowers. I watch the professional troops and the schools and the local schools that have few students. It is so instructive to see how the choreography is adjusted to each level of skill. This video by Mariinsky is so beautiful in every way.

Before I had pointe shoes I thought ballet was so boring. Until I got them I felt like I was dancing on magic! oh and I felt so tall when I went on my toes.
I used to take ballet but quit after a year because I couldn't bother to improve my terrible flexibility, but I've seen the Nutcracker ballet twice. When I saw it the second time, there weren't any men dancing with the ladies who were playing as the flowers. Still, very beautiful, now I'm wishing I didn't quit ballet.
It is performed every year in the world but it is especially beautiful!

Romantic era so graceful and sheer beauty.
This is more demure and classical whilst the Bolshoi's is whimsical and graceful. Both are amazing but this seems to go along with the the title, "Waltz" more.
I love to watch different companies and their changes they do with the Nutcracker. This was a very beautiful performance of the Waltz of the Flowers.
