I miss being in The Nutcracker so much. It's my favorite ballet, hands down. The music, the costumes, the magic- everything about it. It's just so fun and a great Christmas tradition.
You get so many different kinds of snow in this music. Flakes darting by in a blizzard, flakes falling gracefully. It has the unpredictable spirit of winter in it. And you’ve just heard how to combine a boy’s choir, a harp, and a celesta to create the most Christmassy sound of all time.
My daughter will be singing with other choral members from her school during this part of the Nutcracker this weekend and I am so excited that she will be part of this beautiful, ethereal and mesmerizing performance!
Thcaikovsky was actually asked to create music to go with the choreography of the Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky said "It's not done this way! First you make music, then you base choreography around the music." But the choreographer insisted that Tchaikovsky come up with a beautiful score, and he did, making history yet again with his creative, ingenious music.

My grandmother took me to the nutcracker every Christmas as a little girl, it was one of the few things we could do together. This was always my favorite part.
Really? Lucky you! My grandmother took me to see the same ballet back when I was your age (sorry for sounding like a parent). This scene always goes through me everytime I see it on TH-cam. I added this piece to my "Winter party" playlist that I made on Spotify.

I love the way they choreographed this, the formations aren't quite perfect and they aren't quite perfectly together, just like snowflakes falling to the ground. This is some of the best choreography I've seen, it's so fluttery and light. I would love to be in waltz of the snowflakes someday.
It snowed in my hometown last night and I listened to this song while I watched the snow fall. The music matched the snowfall perfectly! It was amazing!! Tchaikovsky was truly a GENIUS! 🥰

When they get to dress rehearsal suddenly everyone looks exactly the same so it's hard to pick out where you are in relation to everyone else lol
The amount of people that say they wish they did ballet in performance videos is so big, it makes me sad. You've still got time to begin! Don't let people crush your dreams, because it's your life and you should do what makes you happy. It's better to try it and then leave, than to live with the regret of having never tried at all
This was the first ballet I ever saw in person as a kid, and I absolutely loved it. ❤ This and Celtic Woman are what got me into classical music and violin, which I'm very proud to say I've played for 10 years.
this has always been my favorite dance in the ballet. I grew up watching the Milwaukee version and recently they got rid of the choir. it brings tears to my eyes to know that this company also does the choir. its so beautiful.
Hi, Shahad. The entire piece of music is written as one story and music piece. Some ballet companies rearrange the individual sections, but are still considered "The Nutcracker. A fun few minutes would require finding the dance of the 4 swans, and then afterward, show the same dance (4 Swans) as performed by the Ballet Trocadero. See if you can get the joke!
All we see is how beautiful and talented they are. But we aren't aware of the blood, sweat and tears it must've took them to get this far. I'm learning to play violin, and God is it the most frustrating thing in the world. But looking at videos like this, of people becoming this good at something they love, motivates me to master the fu** outta violin. Seeing ppl play violin like it was so effortless, just makes me go, I WANT THAT. Work hard y'all. Hope u get where u wanna be.
Nothing makes you appreciate the work that goes into a performance than the personal touches exhibited in your wonderful shows,Ty all for your dedication and love that you all display for your art!
Oh this brings tears to my eyes. Every year my mother and grandmother and I go to see the Nutcracker and this will be one of the first years that we won’t be going. I look forward to a time when we can all be together again.
God all of them are incredible. Sometimes I get a little sad I never took up dancing, but maybe I just wasn’t meant to. These three women were clearly meant to dance. The way they embody each movement is breathtaking.
It just won’t be the same this year! The crunching of rosin backstage while listening to the ever distant chattering of the audience and pre show music. The exiliharting feeling when you’re almost done with snow and it just starts pouring down magically ...
I'd love to see a recording of this entire performance. Everyone is good here but Clara totally sells it, both as a dancer and an actress even though it's not a speaking role.
I am from Brazil and The Nutcracker is not a part of Christmas traditions here. But I used to watch Barbie in The Nutcracker a lot as a child and this music has had an impact on me since then. Wow! It takes me back and it feels like magic. It makes me want to start dancing. This is very special!
I saw this as part of the cinema screening back in 2012! First time seeing the Royal Ballet perform. I loved it all; it is a great Nutcracker. Wish this was on DVD!
+nmjscot The DVD has a different cast than the one shown here (except for the guy playing out Drosselmeyer; he is on the DVD in the same role). The DVD cast has Miyako Yoshida as the Sugarplum Fairy, Steven McRae as her Cavalier, Gary Avis as Drosselmeyer (which he plays out in this video clip), Iohna Loots as Clara, and Ricardo Cervera as the Nutcracker (who plays out that same role in this video clip). So, overall, the only difference you see here in this video clip is that Hinkis plays out Clara, not Loots. And this was from a cinema screening that was not released on DVD. The DVD is of the same production, but it was filmed back in 2009. This was filmed in 2012 and, I repeat, was not released on DVD. The 2009 DVD release is the latest version of the Royal Ballet's Nutcracker that you can find on DVD.

I’m a ballet dancer, if you’ve ever been in marching band its similar to that! like how you memorize your spot on the field, you memorize the spot on the stage and what moves correspond with that. also, it just takes a lot of practixe
Beautiful! I've loved the Nutcracker soundtrack since I was little, It has always been my favorite, but I never watched the ballet. I got chills! I love this!
I wonder if what I heard about the snow number is true. the snow is nothing more than cut up paper or plastic bags. After the performance is over, after lying on the floor, it's swept up and used again the next performance. So all the dirt, dust, hair and earrings that were in the floor get swept up with it, and that all falls on the dancers as well.
I’ve done ballet ever since I was five and i love The Nutcracker. I watched this dance and it been my dream to be on point. My dance teacher said my legs don’t have enough muscle to do it yet so i’m waiting forever to do skaters!
I love how the featured snowflakes dance at the beginning; They almost come off as mischievous children. Putting the dancers in blonde wigs was a nice touch, they all look like proper snow maidens.

The choreography is so beautiful and dynamic!! Probably my favorite Snow
Oh this brings tears to my eyes. Every year my mother and grandmother and I go to see the Nutcracker and this will be one of the first years that we won’t be going. I look forward to a time when we can all be together again.
it's so good to watch this now that the nutcracker season is over and I don't have to struggle to dance this anymore
I'm kind of new to ballet. I have enjoyed the ones I've been to like The Nutcracker and Cinderella. Ballet is a lovely form of art.
I love the imperfect synchronicity so much it really makes it feel like flurrying snowflakes
God all of them are incredible. Sometimes I get a little sad I never took up dancing, but maybe I just wasn’t meant to. These three women were clearly meant to dance. The way they embody each movement is breathtaking.
You can start dancing at any age, even if it's just for fun ❤️
The reason I love The Nutcracker Ballet so much is because the story is so Magical and Enchanting. It is my favorite Christmas fairy tale.
It just won’t be the same this year! The crunching of rosin backstage while listening to the ever distant chattering of the audience and pre show music. The exiliharting feeling when you’re almost done with snow and it just starts pouring down magically ...
I LOVE this piece, it is the reason I started ballet lessons as an adult. Please keep this video up, I come back to it often!
It is on DVD :-) Enjoy!

The DVD you reference is of a production 25 years old with different dancers not the one that this is an extract from.......Correct?
My very first English teacher was Walt Disney and his hobby for Tchaikovsky expressive music of snowflakes dancing on ice, unforgettable fans, the childhood input remains forever, like a computer settings, the return to childhood is always this fluffy fluffy cute harmless and lovely
Those snowflakes must feel so beautiful. Visually, they were stunning!❤️
For me, this is the most beautiful ballet. Especially for the winter. But, have you seen "The Nutcracker - a christmas carol"? It's even better.
Love this scene, the music is just amazing and the choir are glorious. Makes me well up every time!
Boy this is one of my dreams for when i get older! Ive been doing ballet since i could walk and its inspired me so much. It will always be a part of my life and im incredibly inspired by this routine 😍
It’s magical almost beyond belief... Really breathtaking
it is breathtaking and that’s what I wrote in my pop version of this score, check it out and let me know what you think, would love to hear your input soundcloud.com/urbanfusemusic/snowflake-wonderland-official
My little dream that will never be fulfilled is so beautiful, so elegant. I'm always gazing in awe every time I watch ballet, as if it's the first time.
I cry tears of joy everytime i see this dance ! Truly a wonderful piece i'd love to dance it myself someday with my studio :)
Stunningly brilliant and wonderfully inspiring. The "Angus Young" step is definitely my favorite moment in both the dance and the score.
in the summer holiday my ballet company had a performance and i danced in the waltz of the snowflakes and it was probably the best experience of my life
The snowy alpine set is wonderful, not to mention the dancers!
What a bit of heaven. I can't seem to get through this one without crying...
This is SO wonderful! Brings me to tears too! What a class act. So exquisite!!!!!!!!!
yes I hear ya, I was so impressed I even wrote a song with the melody taken from this piece check it out here soundcloud.com/urbanfusemusic/snowflake-wonderland-official
The costumes and the music and the dancing and the setting omg it's so perfect
I NEED THAT CAPE.
I'm no ballet expert but those snowflakes were perfectly chaotic! I loved it!
Ricardo seems to have a bit of a crush on Grace; in the way he holds her. They have very good chemistry.
Highly unlikely, since Ricardo has a husband ;-) But yes, Grace and Ricardo have wonderful onstage chemistry!
who’s the male dancer?
@@msc3439 Ricardo something.
My dad passed away last month, he loved this bit.
Perfect 💕💕make me cry the main dancers are amzing but the corps de ballet are so impressive ❤️
I'm tired just watching them.🤣 It's one of the most strenuous numbers for the corps de ballet, and you'd never know it from watching them. So lovely!
When they're dancing ballet, all of them look sosooooooo happy!
Fabulous. How on earth do they remember all the many twists & turns & positions to be in? Beautiful and the music so Christmassy and full of magic. ❤️
It is not a soundtrack..it is a BALLET score.
Этот невозможно смотреть и слушать без слёз. Красота во всём! Чайковский гений на все времена. Очень красивая постановка !❤
I'm gonna cry... This is so beautiful 🥺
Hinkis dances like a feather! So beautiful and graceful!
I wonder if what I heard about the snow number is true.
the snow is nothing more than cut up paper or plastic bags. After the performance is over, after lying on the floor, it's swept up and used again the next performance. So all the dirt, dust, hair and earrings that were in the floor get swept up with it, and that all falls on the dancers as well.
my studio doesn't use paper or plastic bags, idk what they see but it feels more firm so I can't slip
The dynamic between Clara and the cavalier is so beautiful
