A perfect way to spend time meaningfully , indeed . I , too , Am fond of the compositions of Tchaikovsky . I listen to his works on rainy afternoons in Mumbai ( in India ). Presently , I am enjoying his 'Nutcracker Suite . It is a rainy day today ( 16 Sept. 2019 ) and I am in the bedroom of my home at 3.55 p.m. Without Western classical music , life would really not be interesting.
I am a professional musician. To me, Tchaikovsky is one of the best composers who ever walked on this earth. He was able to create these beautiful scenes, this colourful music which pushes the imagination without ballet as well. When filled with these great dancing scenes, costumes and settings like here, it is wonderful. Respect for Mr. Gergiev and the orchestra! Thank you so much for posting!
Hesus3, I wish You Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.Yes of course Christmas will come to us,to children of Russian Orthodox Church,as usual. on the seventh of January. All the best.
Im a Cellist in an orchestra myself and I always have to mention how much respect to pay the musicians for staying concentrated for so long and still playing in tune, at the correct tempo and getting every bowing etc correct. I think they get way to little credit for this high patience job they’re doing. Playing 1:45:00, my hands would fall off. And everything with just this small lamp on your music stand.
Selina Schröder ballet is a pain in the backside: it evolved as a way of getting fat rich old men to listen to music and perhaps improve their ways, but in fact had the opposite result since the old leches were distracted by these stupid vain females displaying their underwear for hours on end. And that’s the only reason we have this ludicrously boring phenomenon today
And what would you say , if you played Wagner's opera ( say Prasifal that lasts over 4 hours ) ? This music is actually hard not for the orchestra-players , but for the dancers.....
MariaMightBeAMonster I went to ballet classes until I was 16 - then dreaded school exams. Couldn’t go to dance classes five times a week. Still failed some of the exams.

I think some „modern“ changes are really important for the dancers! For example that‘s okay to see when the dancers breathe. Today in ballet this is okay to see, in the past you have to hide ist...
agreed but I believe someone should inform the camera person that the feet in a ballet should always be visible! Many times you cannot see the dancer's feet, he or she is filming as if it is a play and faces are most important.
this was stunning. Im Russian but I was adopted by a family in the U.K and Russian ballet has pumped through my veins since I was little Im so glad my parents put me into ballet at the age of 3 and kept my Russian history alive.
@@Leonion6 most ballet dancers start at age 3 to 5 because kids are much more flexible when young. It doesn’t mean that people can’t start to do ballet older, but they just have to adjust for a longer period of time. Though I would say nowadays more kids are en pointe at age 7 because of the greater competition, but imo that’s just not very good for their feet.
__ kind of! They’re fantastic at dancing Petipa rep. But They’re not particularly well rounded dancers. Even with Stravinsky and Balanchine they’re not the best.
__ why would I? When you didn’t in your initial claim of “Russians” being the best. Both your initial response and my subsequent answer where both as generic as each other. Maybe you could have specified which company you meant when you coined the term “the best”.

The version of Mariinsky Theatre is the best ever. I have watched many other versions live and online, but this one is the most beautiful. Bolshoi Theatre's version is okay too, but it is not as magical as this one, plus it's really cool that they have actual kids dancing, because the rest of the versions I have seen in Moscow don't engage kids at all.
@@janedenktasli3064 Yeah, I know what you mean, I have the same feeling. The rest of the performance is beautiful but in Vayonen's version, this part is the worst, I think. This pas de deux is better in the version written by Grigorovich.
The Nutcracker was the first Ballet I watched as a child performed by the Romanian National Ballet. I was 6 and my parents and I got front row seats because my mother's friend was dancing in the ensemble. I was awestruck of the music, the dancers and the story. Other children didn't understand how amazing this is and labeled me a snob and weirdo for loving classical music and ballet. 22 years later I still have a very fond spot for The Nutcracker in my heart. Now becoming a teacher I want to try to make children more aware of the beauty of classical music and the storytelling in ballet to show them that it is perfectly fine to love something so "snobbish and weird". Thank you for posting this here ❤

I'm a ballet dancer in training and it's so much fun seeing all these people dance and I'm just like goals! And I hope to be as good as them one day!!!
+Pierce_the_Miranda Keep training and hopefully you'll make it! I devastatingly blew out my knee during rehearsals for Sleeping Beauty before I could become a full company member and that was it for me. I wish you all the best and no major injuries!!!
The young girl’s performance in the first half is absolutely magical. I couldn’t believe she pulled that off at her age. What a treasure this performance is.
Yitzchak Epstein you've never seen one live? Where I'm from, it's a field trip we take in school to go watch the Nutcracker live. I've probably seen it about 5 times hahaha
I love ballet. Because people from all over the world can watch it and understand what they mean. When I was a child, I saw the nutcracker at uis and there were numerous people who spoke a different language that me and my guests and I just felt safe because I knew that they would understand the ballet. Bravo, nutcracker. Bravo.
+kittyofpink I saw the Nutcracker live at age 4 and I was never the same after, but not for the ballet but for the cello. I wanted to play cello. I ended up playing violin and I did dance for 10 years but I did tap. Still it's a memory I still remember quite well all of these years later.
I have seen this Ballet performed many by Companies from Canada and the USA and a few European, This is by far the best I have seen. The sets and costumes are great. The choreography is flawless.
This Mariinskiy production with Alina Somova is definitely the best I have seen in my life so far. The Pas de deux at 1:21:05 demonstrates Masha realizing she's dreaming and living the moment of not wanting to leave this dream with all this fairytale around her and saying goodbye to her prince - the Nutcracker before waking up. This specific version of the dance I have only seen in Mariinsky and is so brilliant and accurate, followed by the dance of Sugar Plum and Waltz of all sweets saying goodbye, it's time to get back to reality. This ballet is a masterpiece by all meanings.
It was a joy to watch Alina Samova as a child in dance school on TH-cam. Even then she stood out from all the others. Her excellence even as a child was clearly apparent. Along with Lopatkina and Zakarova, Samova is one of the very finest ballerinas in the world.
The nutcracker by Tchaikovsky is my favourite classical play . And Tchaikovsky is my favourite classical composer . He’s a genius and his music is absolutely beautiful. I would love to see this ballet in person

Only Russians can really show us the Russian ballets. This production is exquisite. It's so lavish and yet it's restrained, refined. An absolute jewel, and a time capsule from the Imperial Court.
This was the very first visual media that I have shown my then 1 1/2-year-old daughter. The was completely electrified by the music and the dancing. She wanted to see a part of it every evening since then, she can even tell which scene of the ballet is supposed to happen if I simply play her the music in Spotify. Now she's nearly 4 and is dancing ballet and is still loving it.
Beautiful story. As an adult we can still be transported to a child-like innocence and wonder by immortal masterpieces such as this. Wish all the best success to your daughter in fulfilling a dream that you rightly set in motion.
The sweet thing is how the audience is awake to the minute details of the subtle moves of the dancers, and how supportive they are to the dancers especially the younger ones! Chapeaux to this audience! 🎩👏🏻

I always have loved ballet but the real obsession came when I started watching full performances on TH-cam. Keep watching and I assure you you'll be a ballet lover soon!! ;)
I watched Nutcracker in Munich, Paris and London, but honestly, all 3 I would trade for one performance in St.Petersburg .. this is just breathtaking !
delfin reiterin Lovely thoughts. When I hear the music I think of me dancing with Idina Menzel dressed as Elsa from Frozen and me dressed as Baymax from Big Hero 6. Well at least that's what I've been day dreaming about for the past week or so.
Ahahahahh. I thought i was the only one thinking about how nostalgic this is.. especially the music in the beginning.. idk why but it hits me hard🤧 those time were awesome:")
I used to watch that movie as a toddler/kid but now even though it's too childish for me I still look back at it and it brings me the nostalgia and memories.
I don't know what it is, but this is an incredibly charming production. Best I've seen, ever. Like, everyone is just acting out a story through dance, no-one's trying look sexy or pretty, or famous. Maybe it's just the way it was filmed? But everyone looks like they're legit dancing, none of that posing 'look-i'm-so-sophisticated-and-aetheral' nonsense. Just clean, pure dancing. And the prima-ballerina is charismatic as all-get-out.
? Für solches Verhalten schäme ich mich.
As a person who grew up with ballet (I lived in Russia for six years) I always admired ballerinas so much and wanted to become one of them someday although I was never sure of it. So, i was fully into it until fourth grade (idk what exactly happened that made me quit, but shortly, I remember my "friends" complaining about it and making me think that I'm not enough for being a good ballerina) then i quit. And now, I'm a broke fat potato (but still flexible just too lazy XD) who is struggling with everything and has a crippling depression. (It was a long time ago but still, i guess i lost my passion from a very young age) Sooo, don't be like me, don't ever listen to others and follow your dreams BUT most importantly NEVER GIVE UP. edit: hey guys, looking back at my comment, I can't help but cringe at my grammar lol. Three (or maybe four?) years later, I've come back to say that, in fact, I'm still struggling. The following years (after my original comment) were the darkest times of my life, I wouldn't think that I'd still be alive today; but here I am, still existing. I've struggled with suicidal thoughts as well as self harm and am recovering from my eating disorder. Nevertheless, I got and still getting help that I needed a long time ago. I haven't found my "passion" yet, but it's okay. It's hard but I'm slowly getting there. Life is not a race, and we cannot rush certain things. I hope we'll meet once again, but in a better condition, where we can think about the past and smile. I wish all of you luck and genuinely hope that you're doing well. I guess that's it for now, sending love
After a long night of studying for medicine I was about to pitty myself, because I am a bad student, but your comment made me study hard a few more hours. I whish you the best and I really hope for you to be well in the future
I know this was posted two years ago, but don't feel sad! Everyone has a purpose, and yours simply wasn't ballet, but something else. You can always pick it back up if you miss it, it's really never too late. Better late than never. I was in the same boat, ever since I was 4 years old all I could think of was ballet.. unfortunately, in my country back then, ballet classes were extremely expensive and only children from wealthier families could afford it. I wasn't so fortunate, my family could never afford it. So I grew up admiring it, but never being able to partake in it. Later in life, I found my true calling through art, painting and drawing is something I absolutely adore and I wouldn't give it up for anything else. So don't give up on finding your true calling, or just finding what you love doing in general. Keep looking and trying, and you'll find it. Good luck!
As a ballet teacher i've watched so many ballet performances, this is the most elegant and beautiful one i think And i send my love to Alina Somova and Vladimir Shklyarov RIP❤😢

If more Americans watched this, then perhaps they would recognize the positive contributions Russia has made to human culture and civilization, and they might be less anti-Russian. The current atmosphere in U.S. politics is somewhat hysterical. Russia can and should be considered a friend to the West...
Sadly a lot of Russian intellectual elites had been destroyed by Communist regime (same as everywhere, where this hideous ideology found its home) and a lot of Russians are still waking up from that mindview. They are still trying to find their aristocratic roots.
Beautiful performance by all. I especially like that it is held in the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where Nutcracker had its world premiere (in 1892).

The set design in this production is OUTSTANDING.
agreed but I believe someone should inform the camera person that the feet in a ballet should always be visible!

Do you still dance?
At the age of 3?
That's pure sadism.

__ I’m using “they” as uniformly as you used “Russian Ballet”.

Dunno, dunno, when I watched it in Bolshoi theatre there were kids as well
The children were absolutely delightful.
I'm not keen on the grand pas de deux danced with 4 men. It robbed it of emotion for me.

The Nutcracker was also the first ballet I watched, when I was also about 6. I am ashamed to say that I slept through the whole thing though 😂

Greeting to you all from Amsterdam 🎵👀

I don't know what it is, but this is an incredibly charming production. Best I've seen, ever. Like, everyone is just acting out a story through dance, no-one's trying look sexy or pretty, or famous.
(It was a long time ago but still, i guess i lost my passion from a very young age)

Oh my, are you my doppelganger?
i'm very empathy with you. Wish you best! We are struggling together, friend!
Good luck!
I also gave up Ballett, because my teacher said I am too fat and unflexibel 😔
As a ballet teacher i've watched so many ballet performances, this is the most elegant and beautiful one i think
And i send my love to Alina Somova and Vladimir Shklyarov RIP❤😢
Unforgettable good music....Tschaikowski is one of the best composers forever 100%.
Thank you mom for showing me this beautiful Ballett in the Opera of Vienna. Love you❤
Mi piace anche in TV!
My God, I wish there were such a romantic, such a beautiful world in our present century!
The world back then wasn't so beautiful though...they were racist and woman hating people
@@chrisp.9385 That and so many people lived at this time and simply weren't welcome because of class disparity. If you had enough money, this world isn't too far even today.
@@chrisp.9385 you're a crazy fool. You've been lied to, and now you are telling the same rubbish here. Are you scared of the Truth? Do you imagine that feel better by not being true to yourself?
this is one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen.
Me toooo❤
Pppppp

@@to_infinity_and_beyond_all Ну у римлян.
Tchaikosky's music so touching that every time i hear and see the nutckraker it makes me cry...ballet is such a beautiful art
If more Americans watched this, then perhaps they would recognize the positive contributions Russia has made to human culture and civilization, and they might be less anti-Russian. The current atmosphere in U.S. politics is somewhat hysterical. Russia can and should be considered a friend to the West...
Santa me smili bubles
Sadly a lot of Russian intellectual elites had been destroyed by Communist regime (same as everywhere, where this hideous ideology found its home) and a lot of Russians are still waking up from that mindview. They are still trying to find their aristocratic roots.
Mictlantecuhtli So? What's your point? Does it justify russophobia? Or makes cultural contribution of Russia less?
@@Mictlantecuhtli it is just false.
@@RenamedChannel Bolshevism was atheistic, your need to mention 'Jewish' says it all.
Beautiful performance by all. I especially like that it is held in the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where Nutcracker had its world premiere (in 1892).
I watched this so many times as a child and tried to dance the parts...I could never convince my parents to send me to ballet class. I'm watching it again for the first time in years...I'm crying!!!!
It is never too late Nia...I know of a very famous lady who started ballet at the age of 76...if it was your dream go for it. 🤗
