This is a VERY short video set in the Great War of a trapped German soldier surrendering to the British instead of choosing a more... violent alternative. Thanks for checking it out!
i love your shorts because it shows that even if these guys are sent to kill, at the end of the day they are still human, they have morality, personality, minds of their own and are willing to put aside the puppet show we call war to help eachother despite being at opposite sides
i mean yes they are still human but at this point in the war there morality sensitivity and personality have almost if not fully completely been removed from them and they have thus become a husk of what they once were and thus unlikely willing to help any one on the opposite side, not just due to their morality being erased but also the experiences they face on the battlefield. i like the animation style but i dont like the implied message as it just hides the truth of what actually go's on in war.
"They push-we push. Every once in a while, we push hard enough that the light breaks through the clouds... so the world beyond the war glimmers... just out of reach. The war is the world and the world is the war. But behind every gunsight is a human being." -BF1
As a wise man once said. "At the end he will always be and will die like a soldier" Such a pure reference of this animation thank you for making this ChrickenBread.
At 0:34, when the music cued in, I almost cried, and then, when the German just let go of the gun, it was so wholesome, German or not, he’s still a human, and we all need to remember that, with racism happening and all
My great-grandfather has something very similar happen too him, he was shot and abandoned in his trench and when he was found the germans tried to heal him, he died to loss of blood. (He was Belgian btw and yes it was ww1)
I could see some good meaning added to the story and also another thing which would be unexpected to have and even the animation looks like it’s really created by a professional and I would also say that you deserve more subs than you actually have :D
For something so short its such a weirdly heartwarming animation. Despite being on opposite sides, it does not mean soldies cannot be sympathetic, afterall they are all soldiers fighting another mans battle. Its nice to see such a horrific event shown in this mannor. Really good animation! :] Keep up the good work!
That was such a clean and smooth and honestly heartwarming animation. I can imagine that the German was thinking that he finally didn’t have to shed blood for once. (or his gun jammed)
@@chickenbreadbreadbreadbreadbre Especially how you animated the soil, and the sounds that the pistol makes, it sounds like its barely holding itself together
i like it when someone does an animation like this. It shows us that the soldiers that are sent to the wars arent inhuman. They have emotions and morality no matter the sides they are on. I know even those animations wont change much to the eyes of some people but thank you for looking at those things with your good eyes!
I know I'm late to this video, but this reminds me of a sequence from the book Storm Of Steel, where Ernst Jünger the author jumped into a British trench, found a wounded British soldier, put his pistol to wounded guy's head, but decided not to kill him because the guy showed him a photo of his family, so instead he left him there in the trench and continued on with the attack. Great little animation.
I always believe that the reason why mankind is special is because it's able to overcome it's own nature, This animation shown me that no matter the madness and despair, every man is capable of overcoming it's own nature and show kidness and mercy to the ones who need it.
I want this to be shown to every soldier entering the force. I know war is just about on the horizon for us Americans. But remember to retain your humanity.
When the German dropped his gun and the Brit pulled out the shovel at light speed I had BF1 flashbacks lol But for real though, fantastic animation, both in story and art!
Its crazy because thia could have actually happened. The germans in WW1 were sent out and were told to never surrender, and to die trying to not surrender. But that was not always the case because they were sending out young, frightened men. This hit me somewhere close to my heart.
I heard stories of that time, like at some point when they are hungry or tired they would eat together on the battlefield. Enemies may hate each other but they know they need to be fair
Reminds me of Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler. A German fighter refused to shoot down a critically disabled Allied bomber, and chose to fly close and escort it back to friendly territory, so it wasn’t shot down. Things like this happened a lot. Sometimes enemy lines and trenches were so close, Allied and Axis soldiers often traded goods and hung out. Especially on the “edge” of lines, where soldiers were particularly dug in.

I am deeply moved by this comment.

Was expecting sadness but got wholesomeness, in a WW1 animation...wasn't expecting that.
having both heads sticking out, quite the fun target
The guy in the thumbnail looks pissed. I guess his fellas ran to their deaths without him and now hes stuck forever.
It's really smooth for such a simple artstyle, so good
My first thought when he take the shovel was: did he will kill him with this shovel?
When he pulled the spade, I thought he was about to smash his skull
this is some wholesome af stuff
When he pulled out the shovel with that shit eating grin I thought he was about to pull a finisher ngl
