Cheaters have invaded Hearthstone!

- Today we take a look at a recent development in Wild where players are allegedly using animation hacking to create a top tier deck with Rogue. Theoretically all of these plays are only limited by animation timing so should this be allowed?

To be clear as I stated in the video these video examples are likely not cheated or using animation hacking however it's not possible to play this deck consistently at a high level without animation cheating. Clearly the people doing that aren't going to record themselves doing it or they will get banned quickly.
Its funny how you had to clarify this, even though you said it like 700 times in the video. Thumbnail commenters go crazy
zeddy i dont know what to tell you besides its extremely easy and consistent to get 30 attack on your draka weapon.
now there is the issue that some animation cheaters play the deck (someone named Joji in Europe top 100 for example) who hits impossible numbers like 54, but theoretically you can reach numbers up to around 40 without cheating assuming you have the apm, technique, and correct starting hand on your combo turn.
What about this is "Not possible to play consistently at a high level"?
High Legend players have been able to pull off many APM decks like Sharpshooter DH, Sonya Rogue, Pillager Rogue, Flamewaker Mage, Frog Shaman...
It's not like the deck is overall hard to set up, given that the majority of the combo is inside ETC. It's literally a 3 minion combo (ETC, Tenwu and Scabbs) in a class that has plenty of minion tutor.
The win rates are showing that it is only good at the high levels where people are mechanically adept. So it's not like people are being sus and climbing from say Gold with this deck.
And while people using hacks won't be recording it, the people playing AGAINST them will. Which is where we got video of Ignite Mages where people sat through like 3+ minutes of animations that their opponent clearly didn't have to wait for.
i played this deck in mobile and it is possible to make 30 dmg weapon
"Clearly". that's why you were confused and couldn't really tell. it's very clear all around, yeah...
The issue is not animations, it's the possibility to go infinite this easily and early in the game
"Wild will be wild" is the worst excuse for not bothering to balance a gamemode. This is something I will never forgive the devs for, destroying wild. Imagine being a dedicated fan since old gods and being treated like trash.
Boo hoo
Womp Womp
they do it intentionally so you play standard and spend money on the flavor of the month op deck with 5 new legendaries. Same with classic getting deleted and twist shut down for months only to come back with the same jade rogue format where its more op than day1 demon hunter
i dont mind stupidly broken decks but i hate it when they somehow have the audacity to nerf it. what hypocrite devs
@@Salem-x7m Yes because it's so fun to play in a meta where discard warlock has a 58% playrate because it insta kills you on 4.
Can't wait for Blizzard to completly miss the point and nerf Drakka by 1 mana
Cheating is nasty. Regardless, animations aren’t a form of balance - make cards cost mana ffs.
Shhhhhh... Quiet you fool or you'll anger Reddit...
The fuck you mean “you’ll anger reddit?”
Reddit’s been going off nonstop about two things this year: “Put every tech card in Core permanently” and “Not Less Than (1)”
@@michaelbruso Reddit is angry no matter what you say or do. Bunch of loonies on there.
I mean that 0 Mana is problematic was visible as early as 2015 in hearthstone. Still baffling how they never changed it so that at least general cost reduction can never make a card cost 0. Only very specific cost reduction should be able to do that (DQA for example I think was fine after they fixed discovery to not be able to discover yourself).
@@michaelbrusoreddit complains about mana cheating all the time lol
Yeah, if you need animations to keep a card game in check... Maybe it's the cards that are the problem?
I will be honest, waiting on some animations when you just want to play a card, is one of the my minor annoyances with the game. I would be fine with a option of turning them off.
Anyone defending people saying "just really high skill" you've clearly not been to legend to play against this, I concede before they get the full combo because it takes longer than 1 rope turn to complete. Take animations out of the game, fuck asteroids, fuck incindius, fuck shudderwock, any animation abuse deck should be removed.
Hard to find something good to say about hearthstone isnt it , why do you still play tho?
@@tehlewlz Because I love the game I've been playing since gvg it just has so much flaws right now It's really sad to watch the downfall of one of my favourite games.
i played on phone, animations made the game sooo slow to the point i was punished for hardware, its a pain.
Same. And one day, I unistalled the game. When I reinstalled it to play again, it asked me for my Authentificator, which I also unistalled. It is very effective at keeping the game unistalled.
Hearthstone needs to have an entire "rule" where cards can not cost less than 1 unless their original cost is 0 such as coins, backstab, desk imp and things of that nature
echo cards had these rules sadly they no longer viable.
we have been asking for that universal rule since 2018 and this dumb indie dev team doubled down on even more mana cheat
Yeah, the dev team need to stop thinking like "but some people LIKE these decks so we shouldnt remove them!" - this attitude is killing the game for everyone else. I'm a control player. I don't event want to touch constructed anymore.
Game needs breaks on it. It's just yugioh at this point, and I stopped playing yugioh for the same reason.
They're like not skipping animations in that clip right? You see the ETC, Scabbs and Tenwu ones all playing and they have to wait for the Tenwu ones.
Pretty high APM intense comp - I remember Mark has optimised the Tenwu bounce similarly, and people had done it for pen flinger too
This false report of cheating is really damaging I think, I don't get how the cheating allegations are coming from this clip
I clearly said in the video these video examples are likely not cheating. However the players who are consistently climbing with the deck have been as it's not really possible to play at this level for hours on end without animation cheating.

I am so thankful that the Chinese servers are back up. It has made the NA ladder so much more enjoyable.
Why?
@@chibiichen the amount of bots on NA ladder while the china server was not up was unbelievable. I RARELY see any bots now that their server is back, prior it was not odd to face 30-40% bots

@@chibiichen they all played the same deck, had the same targeting patterns, always went face and never traded, had default blizzard names, ect. It was really easy to tell back then.
i'm still seeing bots.
Just add the "not less than (1)" for cost reduction as a global rule/mechanic in hearthstone. The game will slow down and 99% of the broken things in the last 3 years would be averted. Trust me - you can still have crazy OTK pop off turns - they'll just come on turn 9-10 as they should in the first place. HS was a great game for YEARS without cost reduction and was a ton of fun to play.
Libram Paladins are throwing all their Librams at you right now... lol
MTG Arena adds time when you perform any action, so you can run out of time only if you're doing nothing. That's something to consider.
They should have changed it a long time ago that none of card can cost zero mana unless it had that cost at the beginning or specifically on the card it is said it cost 0 when something happens.
This would end a lot of these stupid interactions while we still can have things like zero mana cards and cards that cheat themselves into game but would prevent all those absurd combos and OTK.
Blizzard needs to errata every single mana cheat card to say "XYZ costs 1-2 less but not less than 1 mana"
this is bs, just makes the game predictable and boring. combo is an essential part of the game which a lot of players enjoy.
@cronus614 you can still combo and win while spending mana.
Isn't it would make many cards unplayable? Like 1 mana shadowstep that would reduce not less then 1, it would be 2 maba to replay 2 mana minin, what even the point?
@impkiller5932 good. Cards like shadowstep shouldn't exist
@@matthewjecelin8358 why shouldnt they? id guess you just dont like 0 mana cards because you keep losing to them. i enjoy playing them so i dont mind them
Animation hacking doesn't seem particularly likely in that clip, yeah? I mean. They recorded it. And the animations clearly play.
but a lot faster as it normaly do. And thats not ok. i mean you can say your turn is 5 minutes shorter as his in some way.
@@Sorra1-Mods I'm not sure that it is as fast as you see with animation hacking. Animation hacking is nearly instant. These animations played out exactly as I would expect from a legitimate player.
@@JaykTheJackal dont sure. I mean possible but i think when you cheat is it really a on/off or a more specific thing. Like on/off but also with steps. a little faster, a lot faster and so on. I mean depent how you cheat. maybe its a number you only must change. Normaly its 5 and when you write 4 its a bit faster and its not more oso easy to catch when you are only a little faster.
For that i am not in that cheat.
I only know that when the rope is done the turn mutst be done an not 20minutes longer. For example th fireball mage in the really early state of hearstone when the mage cast 50 fireballs after the rope is done.

I don't blame them, there are so many core things about the game that need to be updated (health pool, hand size, animations/rope, etc.) for how crazy things have gotten, that only Blizzard is to blame. Speeding up animations ourselves is what we have to result to.
HS back in the day: Keeping tempo and/or struggling to get enough cards to be consistent
HS in the modern day: So much value in hand that you have to focus on playing cards rather than gaining them so that you don't burn your draw the next turn; and racing against the rope, not the opponent, because there's too many animations.
PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GIVE US AN OPTION TO SPEED UP ANIMATIONS IN THE SETTINGS!
But primarily, just slow down the game and bring back class identity and agency, Blizzard
I've played games where any additional animation time taken from end of opponent's turn is added to my time limit for my next turn. I've had an opponent use 2:15min of turn time and when it came to my turn....the rope started almost immediately. Animations are definitely NOT okay in Hearthstone and should be looked at.
only thing you can do is quickly turn wifi on and off to reconnect to the game with animations skipped. Shaffar rogue in standard has basically been a turnskip deck for months and blizz doesnt seem to care, i guess they like unplugging cables from your pc being a part of the gameplay. I have 0 hope left that they will ever do something about animations since its already ruined games for a decade
Honestly turning off animations should be a menu option anyway. They’re annoying and warp the game negatively. Apm is skill based.
Gee maybe turning off emotes should be an option too, just like every single HS clone ever made.
Yeah emotes are stupid. Let people actually type or nothing at all.
True why tf was chat removed from EVERY card game? even yugioh cfv mtg and pokemon official clients, games made for socialization all because of hs. emotes are dumb give us TEXT
@ because someone might say the big bad no no word.
Got an opponent who played that deck there in the wild, after the match I added him, and watched him play a few matches. Combo on turn 4 was normal, the animasons took so long for me that when the match finally ended, and the next one was about to start, the animasons had taken 3 rounds. He managed to do 45 damage 😬
A simple trick you can pull off is dragging a minion's icon as it's lifting back into your hand from a return to hand effect, just a small flick and it will be played again. Has been a thing since the game came out. It looks like the player in the video here is doing mostly that, but in multiple instances many times in a sequence. It's impressive but it doesn't look impossible.
I can't even see what is happening there.
Is it possible that it has something to do with FPS? It was just shown in Marvel Rivals that if your FPS is better then you legitimately do more damage and have better movement options. Is it possible that these guys are getting past animations simply because they have a better FPS?
The fps thing is an unreal 5 and unity thing with something called "timeframe management". Basically fps is tied how the game reads animations. Hearthstone is not based on either of those engines and doesnt have that issue. Its based off an older version of unity, and hearthstone is also fps locked.
The animation should not be a counter measure for bad card / deck design.
For example I play BG and it sucks not being able to finish your turn fully because of slow ass animations.
I think the animations should be able to be removed but they also should not excuse themselves accussing cheating when this cards are poorly made and reviewed
If anything this just speaks to the problem that Rogue is not a well-designed class, not so much animation hacking.
Yeah.. HS is prety much cooked. I started playing one piece TCG on my local stores and that pretty much killed the last remainig itch that was making me play HS. Gonna keep following the content makers of it since I like them , but won't be installing it again.
Still don't have 1000 Runestones, and I have double Golden Hearth Stormbrew. This game literally doesn't care as long as it's cashing in. They would gladly let this happen every round if financials are fine.
Basically we need a role change so that mana reduction cannot reduce a cards cost below 1 period. I cannot understand y blizzard refuses to do that and is forced to deal with such issues every expansion
Wow this game is so fun and interactive so glad i havent turned it on in months
I did the most tryharding in wild while APM mage was meta. The amount of cheating at top legend during that time meant there were a lot of days I wouldnt play, because I knew I would keep queuing into 1 or 2 players abusing animation cheats.
For most of that time "rank 1" didnt even really exist because Blizz wouldnt ban holycrab for some reason.
Can we slowly go back and remove all these damn mana cheats? Are they not doing it because Druid is still gonna ramp the fu** out of every other class and ruin any Hearthstone balance?
doesn't seems like cheating tbh, just insane apm skill fr, who needs mana anyways am i right
If you can play 30 cards on turn 3, something is wrong with this game.
Appreciate all your informative videos, and good takes on things!
Even if they couldn't skip the animation, the fact that you can theorhetically do all that crap in one turn is still a crimson flag for the game's design.
The rope doesn't trigger for them, that's the part I don't understand. If I get up to close the door and come back to my PC on turn 3, opponent is already on turn 5
Yes pls. Turn off animations. (and adjust cards accordingly)
NO HUMAN BEING CAN BE SO LIGHTNI0NG FAST AS TO NOT EVER MISPLAY AND PLAY LIKE 15-30 CARDS IN A FUCKIING TURN WHILE THE ROPE NEVER GOES KABOOM?
"not less than 1" rule would correct so many problems in wild...
If only they try this for a short time, just to see what happens...
Blizzard please ! Wild is a place to bring changes and to test things !
While animations aren't the issue here, animations overall need a rework because sometimes you can lose out because an animation sequence takes too much time. Whether Blizz actually does this is doubtful, since they don't really care about the US consumers; but maybe if China complains enough, they'll do it.
It's kinda funny that in order to make the craziest deck in wild you use cards that were unplayable in standard
Just make a new rules, nothing can't be reduce to zero via mana cost reduction.
PS: Please ban ALL the animation cheaters. I have encountered this in wild in the US before. It is STUPID and I HATE it.
The BG’s community have been begging for an animation skip option.
That clip has no cheating in it whatsoever, just extremely honed APM Rogue skills. A card doesn’t need to finish its animation of being bounced back into your hand before you can play it again, all this guy is doing is grabbing the cards the moment they are considered to be bounced and putting them back on the board.
HS just needs a "once per turn" clause
I can’t say I expected Libram Paladin to be high tier-1 in Wild.
I had this today, but I never even got a turn, it just kept skipping my turn.
I think its about time where hearthstone introduces an incremental timer. So instead of the 75 seconds someone can waste roping you with. We have 30 seconds. + 5 + paused for animation for each card. I know it might be unpopular at first. But it would pull of the bandaid as animations shouldnt have an effect on gameplay.
There should not be anything that gives one player such an advantage. Imagine this in Standard.
Given the titan-related crashing just recently, I hope they can figure this out without causing more crashes!
this old man has no chance of playing this even with animations turned off....holy shit that is fast
btw "making cards have longer animations to prevent people from doing stuff" is NOT a good design for a card game.....
Considering animation as a form os balance is wild. If you have an infinite combo, it should be infinite. Considering animatons/turn timer as a form os balance should never be a thing.
The bounty board has been fun to do Murmur + Bounty + Bolner + Second Astalor, for infinite Astalors in a single turn. But obviously it takes some time to perform that combo, need at least turn 7 for that, or maybe turn 5 if you go a greedy deck. But yeah this is way overdone
ah. i was wondering when the daily bad news for hearthstone would come.
Thing is that’s the possibility of a turn 3 otk for it to get nerfed?
I don't think it's an animation problem, if that was the case then E.T.C. would show you the options right as you play it, which clearly isn't the case.
I believe it might be something about speeding up the game itself, maybe by increasing the FPS further than uh.. "Low" and "High", seriously what are those options? Anyhow, you can see that he's able to play cards while animation plays so it means that the card effect has simply been determined as resolved, even if the animation is still playing, and that can totally happen in normal HS too, but in these cases it happens everytime. So my tought is that they entered into the client and messed with the FPS cap., it simply seems more logical than "animation skipping" when you can clearly see the animation playing.
Oh, and if you wanna counter it, just throw Razorscale into your aggro deck, it fits and forces them to either kill or silence it to make their deck playable.
I feel like animations are something you should be able to turn off within the client. 99% of the time I enjoy the animations but if you’re playing a deck that requires a high apm it would be nice to have that option. Either that or make the animations not hold you back playing cards. Edit: I made this comment before zeddy said this exact comment lol.
The animations here are all legit.
This has literally been a thing forever and has been a thing a lot in Rogue (Especially Shadowcaster and Sonya decks). But also were prominent for other high APM decks like Test Subject Priest, Sharpshooter DH and Flamewaker Mage.
Animation skips completely skip the animations they don't play at all and you get a massive advantage. Which was especially notable with extremly slow animations like Ignite (Where the player on the recieving end of it would have to sit through like 3 minutes of animations for what should have been a 75 second turn...)
Is it possible that *some* people are using animation skips in order to play a deck they're not good enough to play otherwise? Perhaps. But just because an APM deck is doing well doesn't mean everyone who's playing it is using animation skips.
Shadow Pirate Priest reliably beats practically any deck that isn't religiously (pun intended) stacking armor every turn by Turn 5 or 6. If these cheater Rogues (how appropriate) can get their Animation Domination combo off by then... more power to them, I guess. (until Blizzard daddy spanks them).
put a limit on the number of card that can be played on a turn or make cards reduction (not less than 1) by default
I fully agree with card animations being there to help balance the game against what rogues and druids can do. HOWEVER, I also believe they need to do something about them for battlegrounds. I can only play HS on mobile and BGs animations are so long that I've lost entire shop turns due to lag alone
People who cheat should be IP banned. In 90%+ of cases, people who cheat will do it again, regardless if their account gets banned or not. These people should not be welcome in any game, ever.
Uh... in a world where VPNs exist... what use is an IP ban?
@@Maverick7613 It makes the cheater have to go through more steps in order to impact other's play experience. Laws are not created to hinder crime from happening, but to reduce it's frequency.
@@fefino1411 - Um... once again, do you even know how a VPN works? There's literally zero "more steps" involved... if you IP ban someone, they simply click a different VPN server when they connect.
The VPN service I use has several THOUSAND VPN nodes I can connect to worldwide.
I work in cybersecurity - IP blocking has long since been proven ineffective in dealing with people who are determined to cheat or engage in criminal conduct.
The clip at the start just showed a person who is really good at the game. There was not a single sign of cheating
Really good at the game, orrrrr completely and utterly hopeless game design, or both.
Watch the video and he answers you
Just make everything “can’t go below 1”
Animations should not be the way to balance a card game
You mean mana discounts to zero is a stupid idea?
Shocking.
Definitely not animation cheating, just a really great apm player. Apm rogue in standard achieved similar turns with the Sonya poison scam, and you could argue is less intense. This is kind of a nothingburger, because taking any action is punishing a player for just being really good at the game? If you hit this high roll hand, and lightning apm the ENTIRE TURN, AND not drop the combo… maybe you deserve the win. If you don’t want to face these insane combos, you probably shouldn’t be playing wild.
I'm not sure if it counts as cheating. Does Animation hacking count as cheating?
of course yes ! both players arent in the same situations. Legit player have made is deck with time limited turn in mind. Cheater have made his deck with infinite time animation turn in mind.
Faced that deck couple times and every time they play for a very long time even if the rope has burned out for a long while
Just put reflecto engineer into every deck and farm them (Also works vs shark, street trickster, frog, naval mine...)
lets face it , there are no bigger cheats than Blizzard themselves.
This is just another reason why I don't play the game anymore. The whole game needs a serious overhaul.
Lock cards to only be able to play them after previous animation finishes. Problem solved.
The idea of giving more time to play your turn is insane, you have plenty of time to think about what cards you need to use and also play them in any NORMAL deck. Honestly if you have to modify turn duration it should be shorter to reduce the possibility of this kind of deck to be present, another solution is to put a limit to the number of cards you can play in a turn.
"Possibility of thus kind of decks". Fight symptoms not the disease. Anim skipping is not the problem, problem are cards that give you smt infinite.
That didn't look like cheating, but working around the jank-ass way Hearthstone works queueing actions and its animations. Animation time + rope should NEVER be how the game is balanced. If you're playing actively playing cards or waiting for Blizzard's slow-ass animations, the game shouldn't rip control out of your hands. Every card played should cancel the timer ticking down for 2 seconds or so.
Tricks to speed up animations should be user QoL and not a bannable offense. It's completely insane that it is, because you're literally banning people for sending inputs from the client "too fast".
The people in the clip look like they just have a good, stable low-ping connection. Playing on my laptop over WiFi for example, my APM gets gutted due to lower connection stability and increased ping, which adds a delay to every single action. If animations are a balancing factor, having a lower ping or better internet would mean literally having an unfair advantage. It would mean where you live makes you a better or worse player and that doesn't sound right at all, does it?
It's official, Hearthstone has become yugioh.
God damn it.
That's why I always use techcards against these assholes, cards like neophyte, loatheb, dirty rat, theothar... I don't accept losing to these boring combos.
You are boring by playing ALL tech cards, they are cool.
@@impkiller5932 No, because if I don't play agroo, I always lose to these decks I'm main control
I hate animations, especially on phone in BGs, its impossible to play any APM or even just play a lot of cards in a turs in normal, its happenes sometimes in late game for Druid as you have a lot of ways to draw or refresh your mana. I want animations to be faster or not have them at all at low graphic settings.
that ain't even animation skipping lmao
Watch the video
max human can do is roughly 36 dmg, with that youre not killing renathal decks, and not climbing. Every single person who plays the deck in top legend with a positive wr is cheating or on a lucky streak
@@FirstLastFirstLast I tried the deck and after getting acquainted with it with a dozen games or so, it's very consistent how I ended up with a 25-27 damage weapon. I didn't OTK anyone (besides the ones conceding midway) but I still ended up with a positive winrate by hitting twice.
Edit: didn't read the top legend bit. Granted, if you only face the meta decks I have my reservations you'd end up with a positive winrate if you can't get to at least 30 consistently.
It's really hard to say they are cheating... It's just amazing what they can do in so short time.
very important point. Either
A) animations should be entirely skippable
B) time per turn should be significantly increased, espescially when, you're doing something from the very beginning, not even thinking, because there's so much to do and animations takes more time than you doing an action
I'd LOVE to be able to turn off animations
I do meet a lot of these guys (usually rogues) just able to play so many cards in a single turn and I have to wait like over a minute to see how I die. 🙃 I just end the match quicker by pressing the concede button.
Thanks for Chinese to teach us these things, I think every NA player lost their passion we don't even care to cheat.
Personally, I think they should absolutely let you turn animations off. Furthermore, I think they shouldn't have such a limiting turn timer to begin with! If you are making active plays, I don't think the rope should appear. Rope should only appear if you're not doing things. I hate the turn timer, I hate slow animations, give us time to actually play the game!
You know without the turn timer you could infinitely loop cards further and the game would never end or who just OTK
@@DrSpasticat That's only true in very specific cases, and in these cases the issues are the cards that let you do that to begin with. That shouldn't happen, and setting a turn timer is a lazy and frankly bad solution.
Retention deck who infinitely do things would appears. troll who dont care for winning, just trolling opponents and push them to concede.
@@FMEaque Again, the real issue is the cards that let you do these things, not with the turn timer.
Is there a Speedrun record for fastest OTK on whatever turns? 😂😂😂
This could kill hearthstone, but hear me out. Give to returned or copied card the same treatment of "echo". Second time you play the card cost reduced to 0 the cost goes set at least 1. This could remove any infinite bullshit combo
It would kill rogue
They should not have the option to remove animations. Hearthstone is Hearthstone because of its cool card animations. Anyone who wants to climb in the game is going to turn them off for good and then it'll lead to less player satisfaction. Idk how you fix it so animations are/aren't a limiting factor for the game, but they need to stay. Hard stop. The literal only time I hate animations is when I wait too long to make my place and then I rope out because a card takes too long to resolve before I can play something else.
what? every card game has the option to remove ur animation.
@xbon1 do you really want to remove the animations that make Hearthstone so appealing because it's meta to have fast animations? That's a hard no from me. Genuine question though, what card game has animations as good as hearthstone?
@@lesiegelad i play every card game with animations turned off so i can apm as fast as possible. it's part of master duel too. skill in execution, not visuals.
Its simple..if it was already turn 3 for opponent then they could have ice block ON...that they do not play it it's their mistake.
Decks like these should NEVER be good. Unfun to play against and encourages cheating. Not that I care about this particular one. I quit that cesspool called wild a long time ago.
I play a lot on my phone while on the train. Animations are ruining me.
You’re wrong. This isn’t cheating. You can quickly replay a card by dragging it back to the board as soon as you play and it will instantly replay it. Try it.
Just another obnoxious deck.... I'm not even mad at this point...
The animations looks like they’re playing but they look speed up.
I say increase the turn timer, so they don't have to animation cheat 😂
No just give an option in settings to speed up animations. Turns are long enough. Do you really want the rope to take longer if someone is intentionally making you wait?
