Watched this when it first aired on Showtime in '89. Hadn't seen it since. I've done the Bob Dylan song tons of times through the years and just about every time we barbeque, I'm doing the "bar-b-que at my house!" It was wonderful to see this again after 32 years. Thank you.
I saw this too in 1989 when I was a kid. I don’t know why but it stuck in my mind all these years later. I had to do a deep google search but I finally found it
Man, I remember watching this with my older sister back in the day when we were kids. She passed away a eight years ago, but I always remember laughing with her while Steven Banks played the Phoebe song. Wish I could have showed her this again.
I've seen this so many times I have the whole thing memorized. I had it on VHS myself and watched it endlessly. Stephen Banks is simply an AMAZING performer and actor. Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! BANKS! Banks! Banks! Banks!
I've been singing a modified version of the "I love you" song to my daughter for eight years, lolol. This is one of my best high school memories, having seen this!
When we were in 7th grade in Glendale going to Toll Junior High. Steve and I would hang out with his basset hound and we'd play everything from hurdy gurdy music. Me on trombone even though I was playing drums and clarinet back then. He was hysterical and we had so much fun. I was only in Glendale for one year, but it was a great year, thanks to guys like Steven. Funny, he looks the same.
Pretty cool, I aint seen this for years. Back then I dont think ADHD was a thing, but watching it now its obvious this guy has it in spades. Thanks for uploading.
Saw this in 1996 as a college freshman, a buddy in the dorm had it on VHS and raved about it for weeks before I finally gave in and watched it. Still don't think I could fully appreciate this guy's talent at that time, but I only watched it one time and to this day certain parts have stuck with me and I find myself quoting and referencing the most random parts without realizing where it came from half the time...like, "Afterbirth !"...wonderful to revisit this talented performance.
As a 10 year old I recorded this on my cassette player and listened to it endlessly. Its amazing that even 30+ years later I remember every lyric. Also now that Im older I actually can understand who hes singing about and the topics. Lots of 💡😂
I saw this when it was on PBS, I remember the Elvis song to this day. I have no idea why, but my brother and I would sing it all the time for about 6 months after we saw it LOL. Great show!
I remember seeing this when it came out on television. I used to be a big fan of Comedy and this one stood out to me. I still have both of his specials on VHS.
I remember seeing this on Showtime when I was a kid. that was over 30 years ago. probably closer to 35 years ago. Man! The memories came flooding back !
21:59...Without a doubt the Absolute BEST Bob Dylan imitation EVER! “Hello!...Who?...no I’m sorry there’s nobody here by that name...no,no,no this is the Dylan residence...Dylan D-Y-L-A-N...Bob B-O-B” P.S. “Banks,Banks,Banks,Banks,Banks.BANKS”!
Simply one of the best things to ever exist. I wish I could tell Mr. Banks just how much he impacted my life. My whole journey as a musician and music fan was really rooted in this, I was absolutely OBSESSED with it. 35 years later I'm still not even close to as good a drummer as Steven was here, but it was his solo that inspired me to start playing, as well as educated me on so many other things.
I am soo damn glad that you found Steven Banks Home Entertainment Center, my father recorded that on VCR when he was first out on Showtime I was hooked for watching this guy over, and over and over again, hell I think I even broke the tape for watching this show!
i still know this show line per line!! thank you for uploading this and bringing back memories and eating fried chicken and watching this on Friday nights lol
I haven't seen this in ages but consider it one of the most brilliant comedy shows ever! It's 25 years old yet doesn't seem that old. Obviously this show would have no premise in the present time--he would have saved the speech on his computer! And it baffles my mind how many times I say a line from this show, like when two cookies bake together (Siamese twins!) or start singing "who killed the king of rock and roll?"
This performance is my happy place. I discovered it around 1989, recorded it on VHS, and I know it by heart. I'm here tonight because 2024 sucks, and I'm time traveling...
When I want to explain to people what it’s like having genuine adhd, I tell them to watch this. I swear he lives in my head. Been watching this since the beginning, always a classic!
I have been waiting sooooooooooo looooooooooooong for someone to add this. I have audio recording of this show and can see the whole show from just listening to it. My wife thinks I'm crazy when I'll just singing BAR-B-QUE
This show has always been one of my FAVORITE music show's when I was 8 through my teens. I haven't seen show until I found it when I was 32 now I'm 36 always finding it on TH-cam and yes he change the whole history of laughters!
When I was 8 I saw Steven Banks Home Entertainment show in my parents living room. My dad was recording this show. During the years of watching him over, & over & memerizing every word he said even n she songs he sung. Banks is one of the funniest musicians I ever saw on T.V. SO ready ACTION BANKS BANKS BANKS!!!!!!!!
Watched over and over on Showtime as a kid. Fascinating to watch with internet so I can look up stuff I didn't know about. NRBQ, cinderfella, etc...... Criminal that it never got a DVD release.
I have always loved watching this special. I love I even more now, because this is a perfect representation of is going on in my head all the time. For my psychology class we did an analysis on a tv character. I picked this and of course diagnosed him as having add/hd.
Steve and I went to Jr High together in Glendale a long long time ago. The basement escapades after school were not a lot different. I wish I had stayed in LA, we would have stayed friends. We used to play drums, trombone, clarinet, and bounce around like a couple of nuts. 7th grade!!! Wow. Hi Steve!
I haven't seen this gem since it aired on Showtime 23 years ago! Holy Smokes! I loved this show and watched it every time it came on. Thanks for posting!
i have been looking for this for YEARS!!!! thank you SO much for posting this.....i watched this as a young kid and my brother and i STILL make jokes about it!!! thank you again! you just made my day---week--MONTH!!! :) :) :)
I Can't thank you enough for posting this. As a kid, I must have watched this a dozen times or more, a lot more, in fact, every time it aired. It instantly takes me back to my childhood and is just as funny and entertaining now as it was 23-years ago.(WOW, it's been that long?) I plan to watch this a dozen to 2400 times now that I have found it again. Thank you again for posting it.
I'm 65 now. I watched the Steven Banks Show many years ago, it was recorded on a tape my brother shared with me. I have watched it a few more times as the years have passed. I believe Steven Banks should always be counted among the best of the best. I stopped the video @ 9:06 to write my thoughts here. See ya, gotta get back to the show. moochie
I still remember the first time I watched this. I was either 9 or 10. At first my mom was leery because she was afraid it had bad language, but then when she saw all the music references and she loved it. I didn't get any of the references, and she had to explain them to me, but I still loved it. Afterwards, she recorded it on the VCR and I watched it over and over. While watching it on here, I realized I can still repeat half the lines.
I was 7yo when I 1st watched this. My Dad taped it off Showtime and me and my 4yo sis use to rewind and watch this tape over and over! Now I come back to it as a adult and laugh so hard I cry! This was where TH-cam originated from! The ideas anyways! This was GOLD & it should've been way more huge than it was!!
I watched this on cable i think when it first came out. Watched it when i was a preteen with my younger preteen brother. We laughed so much... Banks, banks, banks
For decades now I have sung the spelling of 'barbecue' because of this show. He was truly a gifted entertainer.
Watched this when it first aired on Showtime in '89. Hadn't seen it since. I've done the Bob Dylan song tons of times through the years and just about every time we barbeque, I'm doing the "bar-b-que at my house!" It was wonderful to see this again after 32 years. Thank you.

My god - when this was on Showtime, I watched this every night for probably a whole month...
Man, I remember watching this with my older sister back in the day when we were kids. She passed away a eight years ago, but I always remember laughing with her while Steven Banks played the Phoebe song. Wish I could have showed her this again.
My Grandmother recorded this on VHS and would often play it for my cousins and I when we would come over.
Also I'm pretty sure watching this show at an impressionable young age led me to actually grow up to be just like this character.
I've seen this so many times I have the whole thing memorized. I had it on VHS myself and watched it endlessly. Stephen Banks is simply an AMAZING performer and actor.
Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! Banks! BANKS! Banks! Banks! Banks!
I watched it until the VHS tape finally fell apart. Thank God for youtube.
I can't even imagine having to put out the props for the show. There's so many tiny details that he has. This is absolute brilliance!
The best one man show I've ever seen. I thought he would become a big star.
Well, he did write for SpongeBob, that’s pretty big! 😊
Procrastination as art. Totally genius.
More like ADD as an art
Classic SHOWTIME crawler with the legacy titles and fonts.
VHS rip. Love it.
Great memories! I was 17 when I this came out!

Steven Banks and Wayne Brady are the 2 most talented and underappreciated people in the industry. Geniuses!
Burnt the VHS out for sure. Decades later and it holds up. A classic .
Pretty cool, I aint seen this for years. Back then I dont think ADHD was a thing, but watching it now its obvious this guy has it in spades. Thanks for uploading.
Holy fuck, I just realized the imagery of the tie representing a noose. Brilliant!!!
The OG lockdown comedy show, thank you so much for preserving this cause I lost my VHS copy a looooong time ago.
Thank you for preserving this gem of a performance. I very much enjoyed watching it again after all these years. Banks, Banks, Banks, Banks!!!
As a 10 year old I recorded this on my cassette player and listened to it endlessly. Its amazing that even 30+ years later I remember every lyric. Also now that Im older I actually can understand who hes singing about and the topics. Lots of 💡😂

This is perhaps the funniest and greatest portrayal of ADHD ever created. I loved this as a kid, and love it even more as an adult.
Yes! I remember this fondly from back in the day!
I could watch this every day and laugh hysterically like it’s the first time I’m watching. Brilliant comedian!

Absolute perfection!
Steve and I went to Jr High together in Glendale a long long time ago. The basement escapades after school were not a lot different. I wish I had stayed in LA, we would have stayed friends. We used to play drums, trombone, clarinet, and bounce around like a couple of nuts. 7th grade!!! Wow. Hi Steve!
He's on Facebook and responds to comments and messages on a pretty regular basis.

Steven Banks: The modern day Walter Mitty.
32:50 everybody asks “why America” but nobody asks “how America”
😃Steven Banks was one of our important antagonists, The Sentry Robots in Walt Disney's "The Black Hole" (1979)!
The Ted Kennedy reference was classic.
I watched this on cable i think when it first came out.
Watched it when i was a preteen with my younger preteen brother. We laughed so much... Banks, banks, banks
I used to watch this VHS as a kid. My mom would say “HECK” to cover up Steven saying hell in his intro song. Ahh, good times.
