I literally just discovered this movie this week and it's already one of the most whimsical and hilarious things I've ever seen. Reminds me of my stop motion phase when I was a kid and I'd experiment with stop motion every chance I got. God bless Mike Jittlov!
I gotta say, this film is one of the most suppressed and underrated things that has ever existed on this planet. It's should be in the Guinness Book Of World Records for that. I'm kind of an expert in underrated unknown unappreciated things, and this work by Mike Jittlov is astronomically underrated. This film is an artistic masterpiece! It's absolutely incredible! The humor that he uses and the way he goes about self referencing making this very film is pure brilliance; it's up there with Alejandro Jodorowsky's films "The Holy Mountain" and "El Topo" I think if you really understand it that way. Obviously his practical special effect work and editing is basically on a supernatural level, but the film itself, the story and the humor of it and just the style and the way he went about creating a certain emotion that is satirical and purposely campy yet so artistic and serious is a sense; there's like a sadness to it, it feels like it's something which has been channeled from a higher dimension, just like Jodorowsky's films. And the fact that I can't even buy this film on Laserdisc let alone on dvd or Blu Ray is really tragic yet artistically so fitting considering what the film is about. There are people who are HUGE stars on tv and in music and they have basically no talent, yet this man; Mike Jittlov seems to have been almost completely ignored by the world. It's so fitting in a sense but so tragic. It's so sad but so beautiful. It's just a reminder to the few people who will have the tenacity to find something like this film that there ARE people out there in the present, in the past who are artistic geniuses, people who should be very famous for their work, but who are not. We must truly pay them great respect; the masters who were never truly recognized.
I'm loving how positive all the comments on this film are. It's more than brilliant - I've only just watched it and it's probably already up there with my favourite ever films! I'd heard about it because there was this late night animation special on Channel 4 in the late 90s (I think, this is in the UK). I'm pretty sure they featured just a clip of it. Only got round to looking it up now. I've got my own crazy project which going on, which few people outside my friends are interested in, but I'm just going to think about this film whenever I wonder why I'm spending time on it. Thank you Mike Jittlov.
I saw this in French in Quebec as a child. My earliest childhood movie memory. No idea how obscure it was! Such a wonderful, passionate film. Deserves a Blu-ray release.
Rights are still entangled by (ironically) the guy playing the Bookman, who duplicated his acted sleaze with some matching real-life intellectual property theft, that Jittlov has never been able to afford to fight. Mike encourages peer-to-peer distribution of his work, as it's the only way it ever sees daylight (per a "Special Karma Calming Notice" in place of the usual copyright warning on a self-released dvd)
I saw Mike at a panel at DragonCon 1998. He was gig on the net back in its infancy but has kinda disappeared over the past decade or so. If he reads this, please know that my wife and I enjoy this movie. I'm envious of him - he's so talented and creative while most of us (well, me) aren't endowed with so many abilities. It's a pity the world is so full of snakes and negativity. So, here's to the Wizard Of Hollywood.
One of my favorite old school movies. One of the best things about old movies is the way the special effects was done, trick camera work, models, make up, none of this CGI crap.
~I first saw this in '89 or '90 - and have been looking for it since! Anyone who has worked in film or broadcasting up to the late '90s will appreciate it.
I have one of those posters too! I first heard of the movie from a report by Leonard Maltin on Entertainment Tonight around '89. I saw it at my video store so I checked it out and was immediatly blown away. Back in the early nineties a friend of mine was cleaning out a storage unit and showed me a poster he had that was autographed by Mike. It was something he'd gotten as a promotion years earlier and gave it to me because I liked the movie so much. Then a few years later I got to meet Mike at DragonCon and had him sign the already signed poster a second time for myself. I got him on video doing it and the best part was he took my camera from me and started filming me which was such an honor. After talking to him for a while he even gave me his home address to write to him which I thought was pretty damm cool.
My grandparents had this VHS, not quite sure where they found it, but I used to watch this movie on LOOP as a kid -- way too young to totally understand it. I always had faint memories of it, especially the pizza scene and the chase sequence. I revisited it 4 years back, read the story behind it, and it broke my heart. Just goes to show how Hollywood can crush one's optimism and passion, I can't believe Richard Kaye was actually a villain in real life, screwing poor Mike over the way he did. If I met Mike, I wouldn't shake his hand, but I'd damn sure let him know I appreciate his work.
I loved this back in the 80's - watching with my daughters and I'm thrilled to find it again here. Thanks to you and Jittlov. I hope he has become appropriately rewarded for his work.
This is, with no exaggeration, the most magical thing I have seen in years. Jittlov goes to show that no matter what happens, you can enjoy life and never have to give up your quirks. He's a man that's been given tough nails for breakfast and went smiling through the day anyway.
You just can't watch this movie without smiling! I'd had the "Creation" song in my head for days, so I had to come watch it again. And it's been remastered? Fantastic! Thanks soooo much for posting the whole movie without having to link from part to part.
Ever since I saw "Time Tripper" featured in a documentary of "The Time Machine," I've always been a Jittlov fan. Mike Jittlov, if you see this comment, YOU are a genius. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I almost never leave a comment, but I have to thank you for posting this! I watched it as a child and I have been looking for it ever since. THANK YOU!!
Ok this is is absolutely insane. I have been looking for this movie, but couldn't remember the title exactly (I had seen it as a little kid) I was looking tonight "The Magical World of Michael Jitlow" is what I remember it being called Now here's where it gets weird. I gave up looking for this film, decided to watch RedLetterMedia videos instead. Paused on a section they did on bad movies then thought I'd look up one movie mentioned a short called Wizard of Speed & Time. Total fluke, this is it.
I first saw The Wizard of Speed and Time on Action Pay Per View on my TVRO satellite in 1989 right after it was released. I hear that the VHS is becoming a valuable collector's item.
I saw this at a convention when I was a child (laserdisc maybe, it was split into two parts), and I've had one or two VHS copies over the years, and I even burned a DVD from the bittorrent on Jittlov's website! I am so happy to know that this masterpiece is on TH-cam. 🍇 UPDATE: Yes! This is the same cut I had a VHS copy of, complete with the trailer at the end! The trailer was probably on the DVD too, but for some reason my brain isn't quite braining at the moment. Anyway, I remember the first VHS copy I got had the trailer nipped halfway through, and then later I got a hold of another that was complete, so... that.
The worst part is that the producer of the film screwed Jittlov out of the profits for the film and it was never distributed. There are rumors that the Nintendo-produced film, "The Wizard" with Fred Savage, (which was coming out at the same time) paid off the producer not to distribute it for fear that it would be confused with the Nintendo film, which in effect was a two-hour commercial for their game products.
I met Mike Jitlov when he was making this film. Although he won't shake your hand, A Great Guy. His inspiration along with some of his USC Film friends has landed me with an Emmy several years ago doing exactly that. Making Films (Videos). Feel free to google my name, Rich Tamayo in Burbank.
I hung out with Mike once in April and again 2-3 weeks ago in August, 2014. His health appears good and he seems in generally good spirits. April was the first time I'd spent time with him in about 10-12 years, and he seemed like the same old good guy for the most part. He does appreciate all his fans.
+Roger Speakman Did he express any interest in possibly returning to the special effect scene? I know he had a bad experience in Hollywood, but there are tons of up and coming filmmakers that could use his sage like advice.
I get the sense that re-building his life following the loss of his mom, for whom he was care-giver for many years prior, is of most importance to him. If he can do that sucessfully within reasonable time, I feel there is a chance he might try to give that a try. But, as Ray Harryhausen chose to give up his filmmaking work by the time he reached Mike's age, Mike may also prefer to change the priorities of his endeavors. As a fan, I'd love to see him do what you hope for, but, as his friend, I also want him to make the right choices for himself! And I'd be most glad to see this movie, The Wizard of Speed and Time, released on Blu-ray within the next few years, if at all somehow possible!
Well thought out answer! I've just been writing a movie for a couple years and there are some far out dream sequences that I can TOTALLY see Mike's visuals in. Give him my best the next time you see him :)
+ZyxthePest - I know he occasionally reads the messages here. make yourself reachable through here... there's a chance he could be interested in contacting you! :-)

Clever movie. Effects are very cool. And Jittlov has a similar spirit to Winslow Leach from Phantom Of The Paradise. I've only watched the first 15 minutes, but I'm giving it 5-Stars (outta 5).
I remember seeing the premier in Boston in the 80's. It's even more impressive seeing it again. These days you can just download an ap and click your mouse 3 times to get FX onto your imovie. But those guys did it all themselves. They really did it. They made magic.
A movie I watch when I miss my friends. there is so much in this about the terrible challenges of storytelling, but it also celebrate s the best parts too.
He don't want to. I talked to him a couple of times and he seems very disenchanted with fame. Great conversation though, Everything from medications to taxes. It was like 2 hours one time.
This is a really fun, unique and original film. I have a VHS of it that I bought when it was first released and still watch it from time to time. Great stuff.
Wow, I have been looking for this film for years! Amazing, and really good quality - thank you :) so much nostalgia, one of my favorite films as a kid.
I was friendly with the owners of a small video store as a teen. They appreciated my love of movie posters and knowing more than just the leads in a movie. When they retired and closed the store they made sure I got the VHS of this. 💖 I totally wore it out pausing and rewinding to see all the hidden bits. There's a lot of seriously dark stuff. I can't help but wonder if he was one of the first whistle-blowers to what was going on in Hollywood. Even now I'm still amazed by this film.
Holy crap, Thank you for uploading this. This is one of my favorites of all time (and inspired me to get into animation) I only have a ruddy work out VHS of this and I am super stoked that you got it up here.
Not as much in the way of distribution since this did landed a VHS and LD release back then, so it was one of those you could probably find at a video store.
I loved this as a kid. Happy to see it here. The new Flash movie could learn a trick or two here, as the 'speed' looks better than the over done crap CW Flash, X-Men Quicksilver do...
Scott Trimble Funny that you should mention the flash. He was turned down from doing the special effects for the flash tv series and they could only do like 12 episodes because the special effects were too expensive. He could have done it cheaper and told them so but they still said no. At least that's what he had said.
Good eye! There's also a Sandman pursuit vehicle from the Logan's Run television series in that scene and you get a glimpse of Logan's hovercraft vehicle as well in front of the Landmaster. The Sandman vehicle was also used in Tom Petty's music video for "You got lucky".
First saw the epic clip at 1:24:44 a long time ago, and I thought I'd check the full movie out. All I can say is... perfection. As someone who often made videos some time ago, I can say that I recommend this. Agree?
I'd like to get the Medusa Films version released in the UK, some extra bits not in this release. I have it on VHS. Nice to see this here since the Good Karma DVD download has gone.
I never met him, but I saw him once. He did a presentation at Dragon Con a decade or two ago. He showed us uncut versions of stuff he made for Disney. They were fools for firing him. I hope John Lassiter has enough sense to send dumptrucks full of money after him.
Yes. I've compared them more now and the contrast on this version is too high and the image has a slight aspect distortion. Now I can upload videos longer than ten minutes I should re-upload my version as one video.
Actually the VHS of this has some stuff that is cut on this version. For instance, in the rehearsal area for the universe song the choreographer says "Take five, take ten, take a trip to Cuba."
Hope Mike understands just how many people out there love this movie.

yeah, people say you're "underrated unknown unappreciated" and I try to tell 'em otherwise, but nobody listens... but you're right about the movie
It was shown at MIT annually by MIT LSC a student run organization.
I'm loving how positive all the comments on this film are. It's more than brilliant - I've only just watched it and it's probably already up there with my favourite ever films!

Saw this film on Sky Movies in 1990. Never again. Even forgot the title. Thank you.
I saw Mike at a panel at DragonCon 1998. He was gig on the net back in its infancy but has kinda disappeared over the past decade or so. ''And with special effects that mean something, they aren't just frosting on the cake'' M.Jittlov. A genius in our lifetime.
Met Mike on the subway today. He is my spirit animal.
This is way better quality than the crummy VHS tape I bought back in the day... Great hokey little movie... :)
One of my favorite old school movies. One of the best things about old movies is the way the special effects was done, trick camera work, models, make up, none of this CGI crap.
even after all these years i love this show. here in 2020 under quarantine just enjoying this classic :}
This was truly a delight to watch
~I first saw this in '89 or '90 - and have been looking for it since! Anyone who has worked in film or broadcasting up to the late '90s will appreciate it.
I have a signed "Wizard of Speed and Time" poster. He was a regular at L.A. area science fiction conventions.
Marlin May
Hey, man! A friend of my hubby has one of those from the LA Conventions also!
I have one of those posters too! I first heard of the movie from a report by Leonard Maltin on Entertainment Tonight around '89. I saw it at my video store so I checked it out and was immediatly blown away.

I saw this when it was released. Then I brought my friend with me to see it again. (He also loved it). So nice to watch it again after 32 years. 🥰
I loved this back in the 80's - watching with my daughters and I'm thrilled to find it again here. Thanks to you and Jittlov. I hope he has become appropriately rewarded for his work.
Best movie ever! I met Jittlov when I was 13 at my dad's new cinema co-op and was so impressed! Such a visionary! I grew up to be an artist myself. :)
This is, with no exaggeration, the most magical thing I have seen in years. Jittlov goes to show that no matter what happens, you can enjoy life and never have to give up your quirks. He's a man that's been given tough nails for breakfast and went smiling through the day anyway.

I like this movie. It exemplifies why venues like TH-cam exist.
25 people are corrupt movie producers it seems for disliking this great movie.
I can't count how many times I watched this as a kid, but strangely I completely forgot it existed until recently.
I have waited for over 20 years for this to be re-released, thank you for posting this!
The world is better with Mike Jittlov in it.
Since I found this one summer at Blockbuster whilst my grandma's, this has always been a favourite.
Ever since I saw "Time Tripper" featured in a documentary of "The Time Machine," I've always been a Jittlov fan. Mike Jittlov, if you see this comment, YOU are a genius. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Mike Jittlov, one of the planet's most underrated film makers

You need to be able to scan this movie frame by frame. Mike is legendary for throwing in subliminal messages, and this movie is packed full of them.
hmmm someone should make a vid of them that be sik
Edestron Mike did. He gave us a presentation at this convention, where he showed us where his sublims had been planted.
The pool scene is unbelievable. Magic Movie. x

That's so horrible 😞
One of the great classics of cinema.

this is FANTASTIC! I am so happy to see this up on youtube, my vhs copy is slowly becoming unwatchable, thank you for posting this!
My Grandfather has a VHS of this movie at his house I loved watching it when I was younger.
I love this old movie. Thanks for posting it.

Cool! Will do.
Quite possibly my all-time favorite movie.
Had a chance to speak to Mike, today. He's doing well. : )
Good to hear
Glad to hear he's well. He's a major hero of mine!
Did he shake hands?
No, we spoke on the phone, although we did talk about that.

We are going to release this on Vinyl.
I'm so glad this is on youtube for all to to see, this was my childhood movie THANKS MIKE! love from Ireland.
Saw this back in the 80's when i was a kid, loved it then, love in now! 😃
I will always find this movie charming and well crafted.
Long story short, this is my favorite movie. No contest. This is it.
possibly the most underrated, underappreciated masterpiece ever made! it's amazing that you've shared it so people can finally watch it!
I cant say how many times I watched this on VHS back in the day. Never actually owned it just would rent it all the time!
+Michael Hummer I bought this one 2, I do wish it made it to Blue ray
Same. I rented this and a stop motion film about Mark twain riding a comet (can't remember the title) 100s of times
so glad this is uploaded all in one part, thank you, when i watched this movie i had to watch it in like 12 parts
Great stuff.
childhood memories right there good movie but to bad they never made it a dvd i would get it
Thumbs up. What a gem!" I don't want my pool haunted by someone in a green jacket! "
I'M one of the people who still love and enjoy this movie I wished that they would air it again it fun enjoyed it
I remember watching small snippets of this movie back in the 80's at the beginning of the "Pay Per View", era....
that's awesome haha times so different now
brilliant, inspiring and it reflects the hopes of anyone who had the ambition to dream in this life
Remeber Watching This A A Child! Amazing Still!
Love this movie, one of my top 2. Can watch this anytime.
I like how Jitlov always downplays his directing credit. It's really tiny, or it's (literally) swept away, etc...
Wow, I have been looking for this film for years! Amazing, and really good quality - thank you :) so much nostalgia, one of my favorite films as a kid.
This movie is underrated art. Easily in my top ten favorites.
a forgotten underrated classic
What an amazing, wonderful films. The right spirit to make a movie! Love it! B)
Thank you for posting this! I believe I rented it back in the early 90's and since then I've been looking for it again. :)

"This is no time to get creative, WE'VE GOT A SHOW TO PRODUCE!" --Hollywood in a nutshell.
This is my favorite movie
My parents have this on VHS tape, I always thought it was so clever.
Great film! Never heard of it until today, always cool to discover a new favorite!
I have this on VHS and I would play that ending on slow motion. LOVE IT
😲I am 64 and have NEVER "seen" or "heard about" THIS "movie" EVER! "IT" came across as my first click at The Vintage Movie Channel (USA). Wow!
what a charming movie!
Did you guys see the Landmaster from Damnation Valley? This movie has it all!!! LOL love it.
Agree?
LOOOL 41:18
"Whatcha doin?"
"Oh, pumping iron."
9:00 always cool to see the original model of the Timemachine in action! fun movie!!
My brother made a film using stop motion with Ken Seamster in Portland in the 70s. Lot's of fun.
I'd like to get the Medusa Films version released in the UK, some extra bits not in this release. I have it on VHS. Nice to see this here since the Good Karma DVD download has gone.
I really love this movie. I wish it'd gotten more publicity.
Mike is so calm and positive. Is he like that in real life? What a great mentality.
I never met him, but I saw him once. He did a presentation at Dragon Con a decade or two ago. He showed us uncut versions of stuff he made for Disney. They were fools for firing him. I hope John Lassiter has enough sense to send dumptrucks full of money after him.

Why did they fire him? His phone number is on his website. I want to call him.
Yes, they were fools for firing Lassiter. Now he's controlling and made Disney a better place.
I've seen one of the trucks from 'Damnation Alley', laying around near the side walk. Fascinating B)
Yes. I've compared them more now and the contrast on this version is too high and the image has a slight aspect distortion. Now I can upload videos longer than ten minutes I should re-upload my version as one video.
Jittlov really was a wizard, It's a shame people can be so terrible.
thanxx a lot! love Mike's works.
Do not eat this film. "Simpl Indedible Leeder"
Amazing film; amazing man.
Actually the VHS of this has some stuff that is cut on this version. For instance, in the rehearsal area for the universe song the choreographer says "Take five, take ten, take a trip to Cuba."
Wished I could also unplug some folks like the phone lady ... *g*
Serious a movie I will enjoy. It's over the top crazy and artistic.
I give it 9.7
