    I used to bank fish Chabot. Alot of good memories at that lake. He passed away 6 months ago. We fished many places that you show in your videos. Thanks for helping me relive the memories.

    Now I don’t feel so bad for renting a boat spending all day out on that lake and not getting a single bite. Chabot has humbled many a fisherman.

      By humbled you mean the fish are stubborn sometimes or there's not many fish in general

    Hey Greg. I really appreciate you putting a caption on the video explaining “A rig retrieval” and how to do it. You should do that more in your videos. Would be a great way to teach people some skill. I come to you all the time to learn and pick up new skills. Thanks bud good luck out there.

    I was there back in the late 60 -70. what a improvement on the pier an store. Pan fish for dinner. We lived in Hayward and travel by AC transit ( bus) Pick us just down the street from the house and drop us at the lake. My brothers and I would fish all day and spend 2 to 3 bucks on food and bait. The bus trip home 10 cents. wouldn't trade those days with my brothers for anything. What a video thank you Greg Blanchard.

    I pitched a worm on a lay-down and caught a 10lb. bass (large north bay, eastern branch) ..that pulled free, however, I did get on the Big Bass wall of fame at Chabot, back in 1978, with an 8 1/2 lbs. bass.

    I used to work at the Lake Chabot years ago. During the summer, I drop shot night crawlers around the island and I was catching bunches of them between 10 and 12 inches. I always go there trout trolling and did great at that lake just trolling night crawlers. It's been years tho.

    Like a lot of commenting fisherman, I too fished Lake Chabot from 1966 to 1973. Back then you could rent a 12 ft aluminum boat for a $1.50 a day. We'd targeted rainbow trout, crappie, catfish, carp and largemouth bass. Also, back in those days you were allowed to fish around the marina, that's where most of the fish were at. Thanks for the video though, brought back memories, that's for sure. 😎🎣📹👍

    Reminds me of today, went with the kayak to a newer place I have only fished a few times, from 8am to 12pm I threw everything at it, flipping jigg, swim jigg, crank bait, top water frog, senko wacky and Texas and not a single bite. Meanwhile my kids are in the dock with some night crawlers cleaning up.

Grew up in the Modesto and lived in Napa and have fished most of the lakes you go to so a blast watching you fish them. The Delta is a Disneyland of fishing, at least for me. Variety in one place. I made a DIY lure retriever with strong wire and lead, with a strong line attached to it and you can send it down your line to grab on the lure and literally break the stump or open a hook, pulling with your hand on the strong line
    since I've made it, never lost a lure again due to snags (had some fly away due to birds nest tho hahaha), fishing weekly or bi-weekly for the past 10y
    It's like a cylinder that slides down the line and past the lure, since it's like 15cm diameter and then I just yank the lure or the snag itself

    When the bite is tough on a lake that just stocked a bunch of trout I normally switch to sierra slammers on a small underspin. Shad color. I will normally land a bass or two but if not worse case you will land some trout. 🤷🏻‍♂️ good video Greg.

    May I suggest Sierra 1/2 oz. spoons? For a situation like this, when the usual stuff in your kayak's kit isn't working? Let them sink, then do an irregular retrieve. You might be surprised! (and these spoons are very economical, too.)

  • @PiperFishing
    @PiperFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That Deracoup really isn't meant for vertical presentations. It will almost always foul with the line when dropped on slack. The blade bait or a spoon is what you want to use vertically.
