I think the Russell Crowe Gladiator movie having the same title really helped to bury this movie. I love both Gladiator movies but this movie having the same title as a big epic sword & sandals movie that won Best Picture and Russ won for Best Actor it totally overshadowed this underrated gem of a movie.
@@kevina3744 If you don't like this movie then why are you commenting on it? And I don't think they were claiming it to be the best movie of all time, just best movie no one ever talks about.
I saw this ages ago. I was just about at the age where I learned to respect the acting abilities of Robert Loggia, Ossie Davis, and Brian Dennehy. RIP to all.
@@Dajizoids You want to see a great movie with Robert Loggia check out Return to Me. The movie is great, but without him, and the other four old guy actors including Carol O'Connor, and Eddie Jones it would be lacking.
There's all kinds of actors that don't know read boxing, the difference is they make more money and have full mental capacity when they are 55 years old.
It was this and play it to the bone I used to watch those over and over again. The dialog is what made it so good especially when your younger. This to me was better than the first Rocky because it sounded like actual conversations I was hearing around me.
I was in 10th grade when my brother and I went to see this underrated movie in the theater. There were only three other people in there with us for the matinee.
This is why I grew up fighting. As a white guy, I had to. When I talk about Gladiator, this is the movie I talk about. The last fight with Dennahey is awesome.
thats my jam.....cryed at 11 when romano died...and became my comfort movie at 16 when my mom died and i was mostly alone cause my dad worked and hungout at his new girl place(we both wasnt comfortable bringing another women in the house).....i was the only white guy of the hood crew and i fought and won a lot.....remember watching that movie shadowboxing while crying alone in the livingroom at 2am....i was a mess hahahahahahahahahahah i became a coach at the end😁......still one of my favorite movie
I still have it on VHS me and my dad would always go to the video store when I was younger for some reason he’d always let me pick one movie each time we went and one time I picked this movie RIP father
Another classic gem from the 90s that's been underestimated
Agreed
Such an underrated movie and a great cast!
underrated by who?
Its a shame that James Marshall didn't do that much after this. I know he had a bit role in A Few Good Men but this is the only lead role he ever had.
Nope, appropriately rated as garbage.

Love this underrated boxing movie. This and Diggstown with the late great Lou Gossett JR are underrated classics.
100%
I've always felt the same (the connection) between these 2 films, so it's kinda interesting to see this comment!

Great director in Rowdy Herrington making this underrated film and the classic Roadhouse.
Funny how forgotten his legacy/this film is. I grew up with the vhs of this and blood sport
(I know he didn’t make blood sport)
I saw this back when it came out in 92! Great film! Very underrated and some critics thought so too!
Picked this gem up at Blockbuster back in the 90s! I was 13. I'm now 41😂 best boxing movie ever that literally no1 knows about!
I’m always a bit disappointed when the TV guide says they’re showing Gladiator and I find out it’s the one with Russell Crowe.
Always check the year 🤷🏼
As am I. Love this underrated boxing movie. This and Diggstown with the late great Lou Gossett JR are underrated classics.

Such a good movie. I really need to find this on DVD. Cuba Gooding Jr. was great in this as well.
cuba gooding jr had a great role in this movie
One of the classic Saturday afternoon movies
He looks like a younger version of Ivan Drago
I literally thought he was the same actor lol.
I thought the same thing.
A 12 year old Ivan Drago

😅 was looking for someone to comment on that.
That’s a good ref 😂
One of my favorites growing up.
Worst referee ever
That ref would have landed in prison due to Vegas odds and how he fixed the match (in real life that is)
💯 percent worst.
I was gonna write the same thing but said, “Nah. Someone’s gotta have said it already.” & here it is.
Have you watched the movie?
This is underground boxing for gambling, no rules apply- winning at all costs for most of the fighters.
@@babywah3290So.. what’s the point of having a referee, rounds, 10 counts, etc?
Tommy Riley was a mini Ivan Drago.
