The bird lady is extremely manipulative with the bird. It's a boy mom dynamic. She didn't warn them that the bird might bite, and it bit their kid. So, they returned it two days later. It's no big deal. That happens all the time with rehoming pets, and two days isn't that long.
So she gets on here and complains about the family, very unprofessionally. And the way she talks about the bird is so incestuous like "you're an outsider, just like me." And she's trying to make people feel bad for her too, when she's the problem. She's never going to let this bird go. The bird was probably sad it had to go back to her, because she's so possessive. It seems to enjoy the company of others.
You can even tell there's just something off with her, like really bad vibes. I think she plays a victim to manipulate people.
I don't know why this all came together for me so clear, but I think that bird needs to be moved on to a different facility.
The people who rejected the bird after knowing what it went through should be rehomed.
@@Poodle_Gun what you are seeing in this video is NORMAL parrot behaviour, particularly for a parrot that has been hand raised. Birds are wild animals that are hard wired to connect to a mate, to say the relationship between her & the parrot is mother/son is actually a compliment, as it shows she is being nurturing, while avoiding the mating connection.
You are acting as if you think parrots are domesticated, this is completely wrong, they are not & they will NOT act like domesticated animals!
I'm also very concerned that anyone could be looking to adopt a parrot without understanding that parrots bite when scared or startled or trying to communicate & failing & getting frustrated about it. I would actually say that is a failure on both sides, the rescue should NEVER have let a bird go to anyone who didn't have a fundamental understanding of parrot behaviour & that obviously includes the fact that parrots bite. I got bitten earlier today by one of my wild cockatoo "pets", they'd finished dinner but my favourite was still trying to manipulate me into giving him more, so I gave him some healthier but not so nice food & he bit me as his way of communicating that he was not happy with that. Not hard, but still a bite, it's just what parrots do! No-one should be adopting them without understanding & being willing to live with that!
I don't know if you are the person that rejected this bird, or if you know the family that did or what, but whatever the case, the reality is that you have zero understanding of bird behaviour & have no place having anything to do with birds or commenting on how the professional rescue handles them. I mean seriously, you think " they returned it two days later. It's no big deal."?????? sorry but you should NOT have an exotic pet, EVER! Might not be a big deal for a dog, but it more certainly is for a parrot! Especially a rescue parrot. Please do NOT attempt to adopt a parrot ever again & please tell this family, if it is not you, the same thing! You are not suitable parrot parents!
& btw I do not know this rescue, or anything about them, I just know parrots & can see VERY clearly & easily just from this video & your comment as to where the problem is in this situation
@@Achoomuah certainly needs to be a nationwide blacklist that all rescues & legit breeders use, so as to ensure people like this never again get access to another bird!
I don't know how/where you are getting all those information and on what you ground your judgement but to be fair, she tried to get the bird adopted and gave it to the family in the first place. If there was no biting before, then how could she know and warn anybody. It could be that the young child pulled or grabbed him too harshly. something many children do and have to learn how to properly handle animals. We don't know the specifics. I think you are overreacting and too sensitive than is warranted. Any animal that gets adopted needs time to decompress, understand the dynamic of the new home, get used to the new routine, that takes at least weeks if not months. It is a bit, how shall I say, ambitious to assess the bird and how it fits into the new home within TWO days...@@Poodle_Gun

you've obviously never interacted with birds. these types of ONLY positive portrayals are completely harmful. Birds are VERY DIFFICULT to keep. They are not "sweet" all the time. ESPECIALLY COCKATOOS. Jesus christ.
It's sad. Video said his previous owned died. I'm assuming they were elderly or maybe unwell. Many people have animals and aren't able to care for them well because they can't even care for themselves 😢. Pets are our best friends, the most loving and enduring companions we could ever ask for. They are a blessing and should be treated with love.

I think he got mad at her, because after getting attached to her, and all the people around her, she adopted him out, and once again, he felt abandoned! 😢 Sometimes, a new forever home, isn't a good fit for certain animals, of all kinds. He obviously got attached to her, so she should have kept him.

What I gathered between the lines was that he bit a (probably) younger family member. It wasn't a fit. Really unprofessional to bad mouth them like that. Later on, she'd mentioned that "he'd never but anyone before going out for adoption." So, she failed to disclose that he might bite, and these people had kids. She's just an asshole.
Not to mention at the beginning where she said "oh, he's a misfit just like me!" Sadly, she shouldn't be around animals. She's fetishizing them. Basically, this animal is going to be cockblocked from ever leaving this psycho.

I am always dumbfounded at people who like parrots in general but don't bother to learn more about them. These intelligent animals suffer because they are highly sensitive and also because they live long lives. So it is heartbreaking when one of them loses its owner. Yes, they can be fun but having a cockatoo, for instance, takes a lot of patience and hard work.
Yes!!! Having a Cockatoo is like having a toddler around all the time. I know I couldn't handle that along with a few other types of parrots. Harlequin Macaws are more for me. I would get one if it wouldn't outlive me!
I agree & there's a "poodle" posting horrible things about this rescuer & defending the family, saying they returned it cause it bit their kid & the rescue hadn't told them parrots bite, but it's no big deal to return the bird, which blows my mind even more than the video, showing the extreme lack of knowledge these adopters apparently had before adopting a parrot.
I do wonder a little if the rescue may have been partly at fault here, hard to know, but concerning they let the parrot go to what appears to be a completely inappropriate/uneducated person/family, who had no willingness to have a pet other than one with a dog like, "love everyone", personality. Hard to know though, they may have explained everything & adopters said all the right things to get the bird
@@jennifer7648 It's an Aussie thing :) Aussie animals are I think part of where the Aussie attitude known in people comes from. They're totally ADHD, act first, think later & just deal with the consequences, a lot like the Aussie humans "she'll be right mate" attitude of not really caring about problems created, just dealing with them as they happen. As an Aussie, I actually wouldn't want any bird that's not an Aussie one, they're too cautious & chicken for my liking, I like the really outgoing, challenging ones, cause in their own way, they're actually easier :) No worries about introducing new toys & foods for example (compared to the more timid species anyway). I totally understand how they would be a really bad fit for some people though & how Macaws, greys etc would be a better fit for a lot of people
Not just parrots, when someone gets any pet it is their responsibility to do all the prior research and make sure that the animal would be comfortable living with them. When you bring a pet home you're adding them to your family. Just give them the same attention as you give a newborn baby. It takes time to nurture a relationship with a new pet

I have a flock of wild Cockies show up every morning and late afternoon. I know they are smart but the other day I was amazed by what I saw. The neighbors have a rotating ventilator on top of their house and it was spinning fairly fast. A big group landed on the roof and took turns spinning around on it as the others watched. Then another would have a turn and entertain the audience. They were really enjoying themselves. This went on for twenty minutes. They are natural clowns and know how to keep themselves and their group amused.

What a horrific situation he was in---it happens all too often though. Parrots take a special kind of person who can live with them and provide for their unique needs. I'm sorry his adoption didn't work out, but it's better you found out sooner than later. He'll find the right home I'm sure. Thank you for being so compassionate.
so much thanks for people who care for these intelligent wild animals that are not domesticated over thousands of years to be kept by humans. The amount of love and attention they need (especially being devoid of a flock) is immense, and then when the birds become psychologically traumatized it is even that much more effort needed to provide them humanely with what they need; find truly committed homes- it's a heavy responsibility.

This was such a sad story. I hate this. I deal with strays all the time and it astounds me the horror stories I hear about abandonment and animal neglect. These creatures don't know what's happening. They are completely innocent. Thank you for doing right by this little dude. You should just keep him. Call it a "foster fail". That bird loves you.

Here in Canberra we are lucky to share our city and suburbs with large flocks of cockatoos (and also galahs and corellas), which are easy to attract with seed offerings -- as with magpies, they are smart enough to have no fear of humans. Because of their size and long lives cockatoos do not make ideal pets; but it is gratifying to see kind people adopting rescued birds.
May I ask you: Is it rather difficult to find affordable housing and jobs in Canberra, Australia?
This is great that this Cockatoo was returned back to where he was adopted from. You all helped this Cockatoo from the severe abuse and neglect from his years in a horrible situation, etc. At least he was not with this last home very long. He is in good hands now and in time I am sure you all will be able to help find that special place for him. Thank you all for your Great Compassion for this Sweet Bird's.

The bird but their kid (was probably nervous) and they returned it promptly. This lady made a huge ass deal out of it. "It never happened before the bird was adopted out" bs. They were trying to put this bird with a family with kids, which is on them. This is a traumatized bird who hasn't been properly socialized in years.
He was probably sad to go back to the weird bird lady who says things like "you're an outsider just like me!" The emotional incest and victimhood thing she does is just bizarre. The poor guy thought he had a chance of freedom from mama dearest. That bird's probably going to have a lot of mental health issues.
I just kind of feel bad that there's a couple being defamed for trying to help a bird. They tried him for a couple of days, it wasn't a fit. That happens with pets all the time. So they make a documentary shaming the couple?

Cockatoos are emotional, intelligent, energetic, need engagement, and are also one of the most re-homed animals out there. I absolutely love this little guy found his forever place. We are so privileged to be near such amazing animals. ❤❤❤❤

@@maryblaufuss7533 yup probably, or at least that was his plan as to who he intended on living with for the rest of his life, even if he wasn't sure he had convinced her yet, he might have still been in the process of convincing her, in his head, but she sent him off before he'd had the chance. I do think that's why he's biting her & being more problematic for her now, he feels deserted by her, rather than just the new home not working out, although obviously going to a not great home wouldn't have helped either & he probably tried to replace her with the woman in the family after the move & probably rejected the men in the family cause they didn't fit with what he wanted as his human

yup, I mean we don't get to hear everything, maybe there is an explanation for this, but it does seem to me like the shelter screwed up in this case & didn't vet or educate the prospective new family well enough. I hope, if this is the case, that they have reviewed their procedures to prevent a repeat of this!

When people want something they'll lie their asses off in the most finessed and polished ways. Social Climbers, especially, have certainly had to master the art of deception in pursuit of their goals. The brat decided he wanted a cockatoo BCS he saw one somewhere and the yuppies parents run and buy him one instead of making him read a few books about them first, letting some time pass to see how much he REALLY wants to own & care for one! Sickening & it happens everyday especially in upper middle class suburban families

Seems more like virtue signaling....."look how caring we are by taking in this bird that will need so much patience and attention". I'm hoping they keep him at the sanctuary. This is one of the reasons i have come to believe that all animals except domestic dogs and cats should be free in their natural habitat. Birds are supposed to fly freely, in flocks with other birds, mate, raise babies, eat natural foods. My heart just aches for this wonderful but emotionally stiffled bird. I sincerely hope he can finally find the right family, one who has a complete understanding of what his needs are and can commit to his loving care for as long as he lives.
I think it's ok to keep exotics, BUT with far more regulations & rules than are currently in place. I like the reptile keeping rules where I live, training course required first to obtain a licence & after getting a licence, may buy from a registered breeder or other licence holder & transfer of ownership must be lodged with licencing authority, who can conduct spot checks if they feel it's needed & all deaths must also be reported & if multiple, they WILL investigate, as happened to a neighbour of mine when 3 of his snakes died, he was required to pay for autopsies on them to find the cause of death & lost his licence after it, not sure exactly what was found/why, he was very coy about it.
Anyway, rules like that I think would allow appropriate people to own, but stop impulse & untrained people owning. Also needs to be rules like in some countries now in Europe, requiring minimum cage sizes (that are very large) & at least 2 of the same species be kept together, not allowed to keep a parrot & numerous other types of animals on their own/without another of their own kind.
Personally i have no interest in dogs or cats, they're breed to love humans, that doesn't interest me. I love it when I have to work to earn that love & know that when an animal does love me, it really means something. I've had rabbits, reptiles, rodents & birds, love them all, but cats & dogs are boring to me. Rats & rabbits btw, imo, make great pets for a lot of people, only an interest in them, rather than extreme training needed to manage them when they are kept inside a home, living with the humans (as opposed to in a cage outside, which I dont' think should be allowed)
Animals don't really care about being "free", though. They just want to see their needs fulfilled (like we do).

Many DO "consider it a safe haven", but only if they have been denied the chance to experience "normal" life
Yes, captive birds can live happy lives, but it's nothing compared to the life they live in the wild when all their needs are being met.
Yes, birds like this one are likely better off in captivity in many cases, cause they are being poached into extinction & live horrible, super stressful lives if wild because of this & loss of habitat, BUT if you had ever had the chance to watch a flock of sulphur crested cockatoos playing in suburban Australia, you would see just how dismal captive life really is, compared to what their life can be like when free - and they absolutely DO know what freedom is & care about it!
I have a wildlife rescue background, rehabilitating injured birds & animals & returning them to their wild life & I also have 2 pet rescue lorikeets. My boy was hand raised, my girl, wild born, my girl has been in captivity since she was a baby, over a decade now, but she still longs for the skies. She can't have them, cause she was locked in such a small cage that her wing bones have fused & can't move, so when she tries to fly, she falls like a rock, but she still tries, especially in response to alarm calls by the wild birds. My boy came from the same home, also abused, he saw the chance to escape early on with me & took it, then discovered he really did not like the wild at all & wanted the safety of a cage & regular meals & refuses to even fly now, even though he can, because he was raised from hatch to fear the wild. Some captive born birds do enjoy being wild, but he was too abused & so never will, but that's not natural for them.
What is natural is flying in flocks, swooping & tagging each other & screaming for fun. What is natural is screaming to their family over a km away & then flying off to meet once the family call back. What is natural is rain on a hot summers day & a big flock of them hanging upsidedown on the very tip of tree branches, so as to get the rain right up under their wings, in all those itchy spots, screaming for joy while doing it, jumping on each other just for kicks, they are clowns & love playing together in big groups.
Yes, they can be happy in captivity, but it's silly to say they "don't really care about being "free"", of course they do! Try to catch a wild cockatoo with your bare hands & see how much they care about their freedom! And that applies even to people who have been feeding said cockatoo twice a day for it's entire life! They will still be shredded if they try to catch it & take it's freedom away from it!
It is VERY rare for wildlife rescue birds to want to remain in captivity once their cage door is open & they are allowed to choose to return to living free, even long term care ones that have had all their needs met for months. They still give it all up for freedom
Poor baby. I grew up with an elderly cockatoo, and to think of this happening to Sally breaks my heart. It's astounding that the adopters gave up after two days... ANY adoption takes more time than that to settle, but especially a highly intelligent bird with a history of loss and neglect. I feel so bad for Ramsey, but I'm glad he's in a place that will work with him.

My parrot is over 25. I have her since 3 mos. They are very smart and sensitive and need much attention and love. Yes, it’s a huge commitment because they live a very long time. Mango’s life span is about 40-50 yrs. I have a provision in my Will for her care if she outlives me.

Even though that family was vetted, they obviously didn't have the commitment or the patience needed to have a Cockatoo. You are doing your very best for Ramsey, and that's what matters!
having rescued 4 birds myself since 2022 when post pandemic folks started to dump their pandemic buys I can attest to how hurtful it is for them. Mine are all attached to me, and when I am not around they constantly call for me, almost having this fear that I have left them. I always say that I didn't rescue them, they rescued me.
I have the same thing (although mine are from 2020, when their owner died). Contact calls the second I leave the room! I saw a video a while back about neglected children & the way they don't play with toys, just look for their caregiver the whole time, too insecure to even play, it was identical to my rescues, my boy in particular. Very sad & also incredibly sad people bought pets just to entertain them while lonely for a couple of years, but even moreso to buy a parrot, given how long they live for! What were these people thinking? I guess only thinking about themselves, not the animal :( very, very sad! Great job you're doing though!

What a sham of a family who agreed to adopt him. Absolutely heartbreaking that they so carelessly added to his trauma. I hope they are never allowed to adopt again, as clearly they just don't get it. No, she's just badmouthing them, because she didn't tell them he might bite. Then the bird but someone: probably a small child. She failed to do her job and is blaming the customer. He was only with them for two days. This smearing is so unprofessional, and the emotional incest she has with the animal is unnerving.

You should NEVER give up on his healing! If you keep praying and having faith for him, then his feathers WILL grow in. The ONLY time there’s no hope is when you give up faith! Birds are so much more of a commitment than most pets. We got a parrot on a whim because I thought he'd be a low maintenance pet. Nope. But I've stepped up and work on giving him the love and patience required. He escaped twice in one week and I moved heaven and earth to get him home both times.
He's hard work but that's part of having an animal that should be free in the wild.
Same, I rescued 2 when their owner died, having a wildlife rescue background & being a species that is native to the local area, I intended on rehabilitating them & releasing them to live as wild birds, but found out pretty quickly that there was no way that was an option, due to their emotional & physical condition from a decade of abuse, so now I'm stuck with them, but I wouldn't have it any other way, I stepped up & researched & researched & researched & learnt about pet parrots, which is extremely different to caring for wild ones, that I have lots of experience with - even when it's teh same species
Ramsey just wants someone to truly love him, and he's so full of love to give even after all he's been through; he deserves the best.

Have you tried participating in dog related activities to see if you can find humans through that that you can actually connect with too? If not, that's fine, but just a thought for you as to a way you might be able to connect better

My pets are my family, too. People not so much, most are undependable as friends. I had wonderful parents who encouraged my love for animals. Then when they went home to be with Jesus, my pets are still my family.

Please don't adopt him out. He's been through so much already and he has bonded with you. That last rejection was so hard on him. I know you are a sanctuary and there are only so many animals you can take in, but please make room for one more.
That's how I feel too. I don't want to judge, don't know the situation to know if that's practical or not, but I really do hope she can make that work, I think both of them are destined to be together & would benefit so much from a long term bond

So true, cockatoos are extra sensitive to rejection or loss of someone they were attached to. There was an incredible documentary put out on PBS called Parrot Confidential, if you can please watch, especially if you are thinking about a parrot as a pet. I hope Ramsis finds his forever home he certainly deserves one.
I just seen a clip of a bird plucking his feathers out because the owner didn’t pay enough attention to him when he got back from vacation .pbs doesn’t show the whole movie on TH-cam .But these birds should be flying, they don’t want humans attention. How depressing they’re in a cage their whole life. What is the point of heaving a bird? They are in a cage all day and can’t comfort a person.

Sorry you couldn't watch the documentary, it explains all about these beautiful animals, and the overbreeding and how many humans get bored leaving them in a cage unattended. Yes they are way to smart, and they are sentient just like us. Many end up in a Sanctuary, 1000s need a home, it's not a good situation.

I have 2 rescues, my girl has fused wings, but would love to be wild if she could fly, my boy on the other hand was hand raised & does NOT want to be wild, he wants humans for company. He came from a bad home, I started teaching him to fly & then had their cage outside & he saw the chance to escape & took it, flew to the top of a gumtree & sat there for 2 days calling for help, local wild lorikeets tried to welcome him into their family, but he rejected it, so they tried to help him get home, showing him how to fly from where he was down to the roof of my home & then from the roof, the small last fly down onto his cage, was pretty incredible how smart they were to do that really imo. He rejected all of that though, eventually eating his way down the possum path & getting low enough for me to take his cage to him & let him climb in & he has refused to fly since. He is FAR more interested in attention from me than from his girl bird partner, due to being hand raised by humans. I actually don't like the idea of hand raising anymore, cause of seeing what it's done to him! Fact is though, most pet birds today are hand raised & as such they want human companionship. I do think they should be kept with another of their species as well though, but also with humans that understand their needs & are willing to provide what they need to be happy. We need to reduce the number breed to make that possible

My heart is so happy there are places that take in animals like Ramsey and give them sanctuary until their forever home comes forward. I have a little rescue dog, likely a doxie pin, that was picked up as a stray and has a lot of issues. She was a tough one to place and I feel like our home was meant for her, to be her soft, safe landing spot. It took MONTHS for her sweet personality to begin to shine through and 2 YEARS before she was truly relaxed around my husband (likely abused by a man in her past). The shut-down ones can be tough nuts to crack but it's SO worth it if you have the time and patience.

I adopted an 11 year old Umbrella cockatoo from a sanctuary and rescue 11 years ago. So he's 22 now. But it took a good three years for him to really adjust and settle in. Cats and dogs are comfortable within just a few days or so. Cockatoos are literally toddlers with frathers. They get attached to people. He was being cuddly last night and, as he often does, he told me, "Happy bird." 😍 Thank you for everything you've done and are doing for this little Sulphur ❤

This video almost has me crying. If you get any bird really, because I had a dove that lived right around 20 years, you have to take them into consideration for when you die. He’s so blessed to be with you. Cockatoos & conures are especially fun & smart birds if you put in the time.

My cockatoo lost his mom of 23 years and then her family didnt take the best care of him for a couple years. It took a over a year for him to stop plucking and his feathers to come back. He seems sweet hopefully he finds a family that appreciates him. Cockatoos can be so unbelievably sweet if you give them time.
My cockatoo has had 13 homes that are known of. I am his 13th home, and hopefully his final. It took a little convincing for the adoption center to allow me to take him home, especially him. I now have scars on my hands from him when he first came here and Ill tell ya what he loves the other birds in my home, hates when I leave and is the most loveable thing ever! Yet he was given a bad name and no one was willing to give him time to adjust.
Hard to watch. How can anyone neglect a beautiful bird like that? Sad. Heartbreaking. 😢😢😢

Well, you really hit my trigger - I see red when I think of neglected parrots. Don't people realize how long they live? Don't they make arrangements when, for whatever reason, they can't take proper care of them or provide the kind of affection and interactions they need? So many, like the one I rescued, are found weeks later, near death and featherless, when their owners die alone or become disabled while living alone. Rehabilitating Emmy was one of the most dramatically rewarding accidents that ever befell me and I refused to give her to anyone who had never had a parrot or who was, or could easily become, alone. End of rant - sending love to this wonderful lady who really gets it and to all other responsible bird lovers
