    I play with Suminagashi in my studio. I first experimented at Art Camp teaching 8 to 11 year olds. I did some research and bought Carrageenan on Amazon and we used paints at camp which didn't work as well as only but kids had a great time. Water st as yes pretty clean as paints didn't sink. I have red two gallons of the carrageenan water I reuse all the time. Love your videos

      Thank you, Heather - I bet the kids had a blast! So you can reuse the carrageenan water? And what proportion of C to water do you mix? I'd love to try it.

    You are a MAD SCIENTIST, Jackie!! This was so fascinating to watch and learn from! Thanks for the mention about the exam table paper, so sorry it was not a good fit for this process! But I'm glad you tried the wet strength tissue and it worked great! I can't wait to try some of these techniques here, too! Perhaps today I will try some if I can find the time : ))) As always, thank you for your generosity of spirit and talent! What a perfect way to start my Saturday afternoon!! xoxoxoxox Deanna

    Hi Jackie! That was awesome! About a year ago I watched a suminagashi master create something gorgeous and I thought, "... someday I might try that...", but of course I never did because it looked too technical or complicated or intimidating. BUT, now that you just did it for us and made it look so fun and playful, I'm definitely going to get some ink and convert my Pyrex 9x13 into a sumibath! can't wait to try it, thank you so much for all the inspiration! 🌃🌟🎇♥

    Lovely to see you experimenting with this. I came across it when I lived in Japan in the late 1990s and I too had a lot of fun trying different techniques with the sumi and mixing in other inks, mostly using thin Japanese papers. I think khadi paper would probably work well. Sadly I think I only have a couple of pieces tucked away in a box somewhere. You've inspired me to give it another go - if I can find space for and cope with all the wet paper! Thanks for sharing!

    • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right Diana, dealing with the wet paper issue takes some planning. I think in the future I may do it outside where I can lay down a large tarp and let them dry right there. I had never heard of Khadi paper, so I just went down a delightful rabbit hole learning about it. On one of the sites I saw a khadi paper sketchbook that made me swoon 🥰

    What a great video Jackie, thank you for this latest experiment 🙏🏻
    ‘Suminagashi’, even the word is beautiful as well as the results, rolls of the tongue much better than ‘ink floating on water’.
    I have many different colour fountain pen inks and may experiment with them.
    Inspiring as ever, thank you 🙏🏻 🤗🙏🏻

  • @geridegruy6070

    I tried this and had the same issue with the ink sinking, both in regular water and in distilled water. But it got a little better when I used a super light touch with the ink. Tried a lot of papers and got the best print with a non-paper substrate called Evolon. Clear and beautiful. Thanks.

      They day after the rice paper "incident" I bought a different strength of rice paper to test it out. The type that I have now is awesome for collage, but it's too thin for anything even slightly wet. What is four favorite paper to coffee dye on?🥰
