    Floor is fantastic, but Marko's vocals are also an essential part of Nightwish. Flarko (Floor and Marko) moments are always great!
    I don't know but I believe Tuomas is ok with performing this song hearing the lyrics all thru the song. It is just a 'nice', dramatic, story to keep on telling that he can't, which was the case earlier.
    The same can be said about Marko and Emppu gathering around Tuomas for support. I don't think Tuomas needs that anymore. But why not do it? It looks cool and emotional and underlines the story.
    And I'm not so sure Tuomas was as suicidal as some people say. I know he had REALLY rough, difficult times after firing Tarja, but...
    Tuomas told he used to vomit before getting on stage, the perfectionist he is. But not as much anymore. In a documentary he said mistakes are ok to make, and not only ok but it's good to make mistakes. It's only human.
    And at the moment Tuomas is more relaxed than ever, because Nightwish is stronger than ever. That is what I think anyway.
    Be free, everyone, to disagree.
    Hi from Helsinki Finland!

      The interview I watched that someone else tagged me in was pretty interesting. Tuomas spoke about how its weird to play that song because who he was at that time is no longer who he is now or how he feels but he did say he gets the vocals taken out of his in ear sometimes. But the fact he kills himself in this song so he didn't have to in real life is just amazing to me that he did that and it helped him get through everything!

    I had same kind of reservations to this song in the beginning of my NW journey. I felt that it was too complicated and too personal for Tuomas to grab my interest. Now when i'm much more experienced i think it's a beautiful masterpiece. And the ending where Floor sings the words of the Mother are very emotional.

  • @cinderellsworth
    @cinderellsworth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    The pain in Floor's vocals is real. In a recent live-stream with Floor on her YT channel, she said that the emotion that in her vocals is very real.
    I believe she respects and loves Tuomas to the point that she can truly empathize and sympathize with what he went through during this whole
    ordeal. And as for Emppu going and standing by him near the beginning, he wasn't just "chatting"....he was checking on Tuomas to see how he
    was doing. And at the end both Marko and Emppu go to him showing their support for him. I don't think they will ever perform this live again...

    • @JulieMidsTV
      @JulieMidsTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Such a tragedy that they will never perform the Poet and the Pendulum live again. Its brilliance needs to be heard.

    • @cinderellsworth
      @cinderellsworth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JulieMidsTV I agree that it is a brilliant piece of music and lyrics. But I also can understand why Tuomas doesn't want to perform it again. It's about something extremely painful that he has recovered from. I would think that every time he performed it, it would re-open those old wounds. So, at least we have this beautiful video here on YT to watch over and over again...

  • @JulieMidsTV
    @JulieMidsTV 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Tuomas is one of the bravest composers out there. He's exposed his deepest vulnerability for everyone to hear. It's not just personal. It's real. He risked ridicule, and being condemned all over again in publishing the track, and then in performing it live. That takes so much courage.
    Then there's the fact that it's so different to anything else - even different to any other Nightwish song. It's a leap into the unknown. How would it be received? Would it be accepted? Tuomas takes musical risks constantly, but The Poet and the Pendulum stands out as the greatest risk of them all.
    Thank goodness he bared his soul. The Poet and the Pendulum has touched me in a way few other tracks have. For that I am deeply grateful. Now, if I could just take away his pain..., but then I guess it would never have been written...

    I understand your feelings about this song. It is very much an artistic musical masterpiece. However, it is not really a song for everyday listening. I do not make a habit of listening to the recorded studio version. It is a song to be experienced live from Floor only. I also understand why it is not in every Nightwish set. It is special and unique and deserves to be dished out sparingly so that it maintains it's proper impact. I agree with you very much regarding what magic Marco brings to Nightwish. He is the demon to her angel and the dark to her light. Marco completes Floor so that together they are light years beyond most bands. You would be blessed to have one of them as your vocalist and Tuomas and the rest of the boys and all of us are so lucky to have both of them in our lives.
    Annette sounded great on the studio recording, however some parts needed extreme harmonies to add to her lead lines to create more emotional affect. In her live performances Annette tends to stray from some of the lead lines by adding little vocal melody inflections that for me actual ruins her singing style. It comes of very poppy and shows her lack of lung capacity and breath control. I don't want to be too harsh. She gives it all she has and the 2 recordings she did with Nightwish are 2 of my favorite CD's from Nightwish. Respect. Have you checked out "Delain" yet. They are very good as well. However they do sound a little better on some of their music videos. Check these out below.
