Freddie considered Montserrat to have the most beautiful voice he'd ever heard, and collaborating with her was a dream coming true for him. I'm so happy that they became close friends before he passed. They truly came to have so much love and respect for each other, and she stayed in close touch with him, right until his death.
Mercury undoubtedly a great singer, but this song is in no regards operatic aside from the fact that it features an opera singer. In fact, when Caballé suggested that she and Mercury sing an operatic duet between soprano and baritone, he declined.
The entire album is glorious and was written by Freddie Mercury and Mike Moran. 200 rock songs and an entire opera album. Freddie and Monsey also became great friends. She said she knew he loved all music. That is a true musical artist. RIP Legend 😢
Of their performances before live audiences, my FAVORITE is: “THE GOLDEN BOY”…. Part opera, part gospel! At the point near the end of this song, when Montserrat reaches out and takes Freddie’s hand, she said it was because she could see he was tearing up. These lyrics are quite autobiographical, considering what Freddie was going through: He & Montsey (her nickname) had developed a very close friendship, she was one of very few people that he had confided in about his terminal AIDS diagnosis. (He hadn’t even told his bandmates yet!) Freddie only did one more live appearance to perform after this… when he sang a couple songs with Cliff Richards during a charity performance of Dave Clarke’s musical show, Time.
That I know of, two other songs on video - the title song Barcelona (which was intended to be sung together at the 1992 Barcelona summer Olympics, but told her he wouldn’t be around by then 😢). The other, the Golden Boy (very gospel feel to it). The two were fans of each other. She basically asked him to write an album for the two of them. And … there you go.
You should listen to Freddie's Exercises in Free love....its tones only no words. The B side to The Great Pretender. This is what he took to show Montserrat on their first meeting to break the ice. Beautiful.
I love love love this, takes us to church Freddie and Montsy ❤️💙💛now do The Golden Boy. Freddie new he was dying at this point😢Montsy was at the unveiling of Freddie's statue in Montreux.
Montserrat was from Barcelona. The entire "Barcelona" album is wonderful. "Ensueno" (Dream) is a favorite of mine. Freddie and Montserrat became very good friends during their collaboration. Unfortunately, as hoped and due to Freddie's passing , they could not perform the song, "Barcelona" (written by Freddie and Mike Moran) at the 1992 Olympics.
Freddie, EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE, same album. He dedicated this one to Montserrat. They were very close, has great respect for each others talents, Freddie loved her and was enthralled with her talent as he used to go to the opera a lot. She was his favorite all time singer, had the greatest voice,in his opinion, as he stated in an interview, which started their collaborating together. Thank you! Enjoy!
I m so happy and proud of him for having the chance to do his and actually nail it. As his assistant once said, that for Freddie, this result was one of the big ones. Something he was proud and happy for.
Freddie wrote the Barcelona album for Montsy….and considering the Olympic Games were held in Barcelona in 1992….the song Barcelona was the anthem for the Olympics…all the broadcasts of the games on tv had this song as their signature⚡️
Ye, great song and freddie's vocals are insane and freddie wrote it amasterpiece no one can touch this talent of him even monserat said that ,that's why she agreed to do an album with freddie ,because she knew how great his voice was thanks guys❤❤
Perfection at it’s finest they adored each other such a shame they didn’t have long together try The Golden Boy next it will blow you away beautiful reaction thank you x x
Everyone rightly acknowledges Freddie Mercury's unique voice and outstanding frontman skills but he was a very talented song writer, musician and composer also--he was the main composer and creative force behind this unusual for its time album.
Great reaction, Freddie wrote this whole Opera album,You should listen to Freddie's Exercises in Free love. it displays Freddie's amazing voice, Thank you
After listening to the album over 50 times in my life, I can confidently say Barcelona is for sure one of the weakest songs on the album. It's still incredible, but that's just how amazing the rest of the album is. I truly mean it, I still think the album is an absolute masterpiece even without Barcelona. The Fallen Priest, La Japanaise, The Golden Boy, Guide me home/How can I go on, Ensueno, are all better songs than Barcelona. They offer more variety in sound and more unique use of their voices in building soundscapes and telling story's through the music. Barcelona is the most "pop" type of song they did, so it would appeal to the masses, but the rest of the album is meant to appeal to true music lovers and musicians.
PLEASE react to both Barcelona and The Golden Boy at La Nit. Although How Can I Go On is a beautiful song, the other two leave it in the dust, in my opinion. The entire Barcelona album was co-written by Freddie Mercury. His composition skills rival his musical skills.
Well I'm going to be the turd in the punchbowl...this is not live...they are lip synching the studio version. Not to take away from a wonderful composition and performance. Their "live" performance of it was well done. This is the weirdest album in the most wonderful way and well worth you two exploring at some point.
Vous devriez vous intéresser à un français qui s'appelle Johnny Hallyday et qui est décédé en 2017. Montserrat a aussi chanté avec lui. Et elle le plaçait au minimum au même rang que Freddy pour ce qui est du chant
This was not live - Freddie was too frail to manage that - it was only performed live once. It was intended to the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona - where Montserrat was born - - but as we know - - Freddie died in 1991 so it should not be - - .I believe that this version was showed at the Olympics .They got very close - and I believe that Montserrat was the first to whom he told about his illness. BTW. She was considered one of the greatest sopranos of the last century.
Check out Freddie's solo Exercises in free love th-cam.com/video/n890RSSOeV8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jCyzjynqdZHVkj5M it was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style
No it was not. He did this song as a B side to The Great Pretender long before he met her. He took it to show her when they met. That's it. She took the song and it became Ensueno.
@@sharonallforloveandpositiv5497 what's your point? Freddie was a huge fan of hers long before they met. He recorded the song (B side "the great pretender") it was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style.

"The Golden Boy" and "Barcelona" are well worth reacting to. This was such a great combo.
Barcelona is a wonderful‘collaboration between the two.
Definitely should react to them doing “Barcelona” ❤❤❤
Quando ascolto questi due talenti piango sempre…..non posso evitarlo😢❤
Freddie wasn't just able to sing these operatic songs, but to compose them as well, he was a great musician.
Mercury undoubtedly a great singer, but this song is in no regards operatic aside from the fact that it features an opera singer. In fact, when Caballé suggested that she and Mercury sing an operatic duet between soprano and baritone, he declined.

2 icon's,2 Legend's,May They Both R.I.P
Freddie could sing anything. The greatest voice ever.
Don't push it. He was mainly a rock n roll singer.
Of their performances before live audiences, my FAVORITE is:
“THE GOLDEN BOY”….
Part opera, part gospel!

My vision of an Angel singing too. I only thought they want the one song together. Thank you for sharing this ❤👵🇬🇧. My budgie woke up to join in too.

Montserrat Caballe' and Freddie Mercury collaborating, the icing on the cake of Freddie Mercury's career. . .his view I'm sorta certain.

Thanks, guys.. Freddie with the "spoken word" while Montsy is shining! appreciate your reaction!
Really need to watch Barcelona (the title track of the album).
"Barcelons" is THE song from that album. It was an instant hit, even for those who didn't liked opera.
Never heard or seen this before. We already knew how Great Freddie was but this proves it. Thank you guys ❤
Beautiful song, it was a huge deal at the time!

I love it that they could both be themselves and still sound incredible

No he did not. Freddie sung this as a B side to The Great Pretender. Way before he met Montserrat. He took that song to show her when they met.
WOWWW… What a NICE SURPRISE!

Freddy the best voice and front man in rock history
React to "Barcelona "and " th golden boy," from this album. Freddie wrote the songs on this album
I have never seen this.....though I had seen all of Fedddie!!
Great reaction, Freddie wrote this whole Opera album,You should listen to Freddie's Exercises in Free love. it displays Freddie's amazing voice, Thank you
Freddie and Mike Moran wrote the Song Barcelona. They used that Song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics
You should check them out performing, "Barcelona". It's a lot better.

Barcelona 92
listen to him singing the song „ensueño“ in real opera style with the famous opera star montserrat caballé. so freddie could sing opera.
El tema que buscais es Barcelona 92
This performance was in playback for many technical problems! 🙂

Yeah, he definitely was. He had lost a lot of confidence in his voice due to his illness. The demos are amazing though.
She's a soprano lads Freddie wrote the vocals so he wouldn't be over powerd should never have worked stayed friends till the end
