As much as love Jared Leto, this is the best movie about Steve.

Agreed. This one was much more accurate about the real Steve, even tho Jared is a very charming actor and did a good job in his own film.

When I was graduating from high school in 2003, I was just beginning my obsession with distance running. I chose to do my senior project on Steve Prefontaine and I must have watched this movie, as well as a lot of documentaries and the movie “Prefontaine”, at least ten times. I also read the book “Pre” twice in a row. When I presented my project to my school principal, he was blown away by the biographical information that I had compiled and the running statistical analysis that I had provided projecting what Pre could have done had he not tragically died.

Maybe in America, but ever? Not even close. No world records, no medals. Compared with legends like Bekele, Viren, Zatopek, Gebrselassie and so forth, that's laughable.
Even in America, there were guys like Bob Schul and Billy Mills who won Olympic Gold in the 60's.

Will easier said than done.. mapping out a race on paper is like trying to beat the clock..this is not the way it works ....its about crossing the line first . Ask viren the strategy behind the race in the moment of the battle field not the WAR where the clock waits...lol.. although at best a world record if a chsen one.

Paul Klinger bowermans strategy was near perfect going into it, but since key runners that the strategy was based around didn’t race as expected, the strategy fell apart. Should’ve had multiple strategy’s tho if certain things didn’t happen like they did in that 5000

"Listen?" See "Prefontaine" - he LISTENED to Bill Bowerman AND Bill Dellinger - "Bedford's going to go out and you stay right on his butt. Then the last 4 last laps you're going to take over - put the crap in all the kickers legs." Bedford didn't go out and the pace was a crawl for 2 miles - the last mile 3 kickers had tons left in the last lap to overtake Pre.
