I began to realize about 30 years ago the actors and actresses we watched growing up in the 60s, 70s, 80s and thru today have passed on. Leaving an empty space in our hearts. Never occurred to me the loss happens with each generation. Being 65 and have seen the shows and movies with great performers and even the music we listened to, we are a special generation of folks. As we age we tend to reflect on the people and events that touched our lives. I cherish the days gone by even more these days knowing this nation is so much more divided.

What I saw is his humility and humanity. He was so natural in his movie roles that you were immersed in his character like it was real. So when he cried watching his character in Don't Look Back I realized that he BECAME his character. Maybe thats why he had to walk away and never see one of his completed films, it was just too overwhelming and exhausting for him. He touched your heart because he played fron the heart in his movie characters. In the movie industry he was one of the greats.

Also, my grandpa’s doctor served in Korea as well. I don’t believe we will ever know the caliber of actors that were in that movie, with the exception of Alan Alda. Donald Sutherland. I absolutely loved this man. He is sweet and funny as hell and just a glorious beautiful soul. And it all shines through in his work. He was one of the all time greatest actors. A beautiful man. And human. Inside and out. I do not know how he could think of himself as ugly or even unattractive. He was beautiful through and through. And excessively gifted and talented. Talent and heart and beauty that he gifted to the world in his admirable life and work.
I love every character he ever portrayed. There is not a single flaw in any of the portrayals of all the flawed human beings he endeavored to give us in his films. Though I love everyone of them, my all time favorite is Calvin Jarrett in Ordinary People. Both he and Mary Tyler Moore were perfect and profound in that film.
Thank you, Donald Sutherland. Thank you from my heart. For all the joy you gave me and so many others in this world sharing your gifts of talent and beauty with us in your timeless work.

I was first introduced to Donald Sutherland in the dirty dozen in 1967. He played the goofy role so well that I couldn’t believe that he could play intelligent serious roles in so many other movies. In spite of his odd looks, he was always the stand out actor in every movie he made. There was never a more believable actor. All the great movie idols in my life are going to be gone in the next decade.

An absolutely fantastic actor who could play any role, drama, comedy, horror. I have never seen him in a film I didn't like. The emotions he conveyed of grief and emotion he showed in films such as "Ordinary People", "Invasion of the body snatchers" and "Don't look now" were so convincing and conveyed such emotion. RIP Donald Sutherland.

He wasn't ugly or unattractive. Seeing his photos from his youth and childhood, you can tell that he was gonna be one of those kids that just grew into their looks when they got older. It's unfortunate his mother was so callous in her response. RIP Mr. Sutherland, you were an absolute joy to watch on film.
