  • This video is an update to our earlier presentation ‘A guide to the Sky-Watcher AZ-GTi GoTo mount and telescope range’. It provides details of a currently informal firmware revision that provides new functionality to the AZ-GTi mount head.
The primary feature allows the AZ-GTi to be switched to Equatorial mode - to exploit this option additional hardware is required (the video gives full details). The new firmware also allows the optical tube position to be altered from the default orientation (ie the arm can be repositioned 180 degrees when pointing North for arm right or left usage).
The firmware update requires the user to download two files from the support section of the www.sky-watcher.com website, and the motor update file will need to be uploaded, via the firmware uploader using the AZ-GTi’s WiFi system. General details of how to accomplish this are given in the video.

Dear Astronomy and Nature TV: As with your earlier video on this subject, this one is very well-done. You might consider becoming a representative of one of these companies. You explain what their products are capable of better than they can, plus you know how to select the right product for a particular buyer. There is nothing wrong with that! Perhaps we'll see you one day at the Northeast Astronomy Forum in Suffern, NY, USA.

Your first video about the AZ-GTi mount sold me on one and it arrived today and I was able to go out and freeze (-1C) for 2 hours tonight and once I figured out how to align it I was off and running. It work's so good with the APP on my phone. I have Stellarium on my phone also and once I started it up it connected to the mount and I was able to control the mount through Stellarium.. Thanks for the info.

Pretty certain this eq option is a result of Wolfie6020 suggestion to skywatcher.

Clear and complete explanations as usual. As a French I would like to thank you because English isn't my first language and yet I perfectly understand your words since you speak slowly and simple. This is honestly a good plus. Any idea of the star adventurer eq wedge maximum weight supported? I can't find it online.

If the equatorial option works and Sky-Watcher adopts, they may have trouble selling their Star Adventurer, which is why they may not do it unless the Star Adventurer is not selling anyway.

upgrading is easy, but how to polar align in EQ mode, or no need to polar align at all ? seems like nobody is talking about it.

Yes you need to polar align am using a DSLR with a finder mounted on shoe you level tripod make sure Polaris is center of scope then do the two star align once done go into settings and select polar align it give you an option to choose a star I chose cappella at the time once done it will move away from the star and ask you to recenter using Dec then it will do the same for AZ center star again and it will have computed any errors am using a DSLR with a canon 400mm prime lens and can get around 60-90 sec exposures before star trails not bad for unguided or no polarscope

@Astronomy and Nature TV Hi I've bought this mount along with the 130PS I'm in the process of getting the EQ wedge and weights, my question is can I connect the AZ/GTI to use an autoguider & small scope? Would I need to use the synscan handset or would it connect straight to the mounts?
    Thanks

Hello I tried the mount in equatorial mode, but the most "natural" position for the telescope to be upwards when facing the North Pole implied to turn around the star adventurer equatorial base and choose 90-latitude as the latitude so the azimuth became the Dec axis and the altitude the ra axis. It seems to work fine as the first go-to for alignment with the moon went almost there. Is it right os should I use it the other way around? I could post some pictures if you want to see the arrangement, I do not know it is correct or not. Thanks!!! I love this mount though!

Do you know to what degree a horizontal position of this mount has to be precise before 2 or 3 star alignment?

Hi, can you tell me a word or two about the Bresser Messier Dobson 5 and 6 inch? I wanted to buy one but several people warned me that the secondary mirror is too big and the Focuser reaches too long out of the tube. You think these re gonna be real problems for a beginner?

As a newbie in the field and looking at the SkyWatcher Explorer-130PS AZ-GTI as my first telescope, I am curious as to what the practical differences between EQ and AZ would be for me.
Will object tracking be better or are tehre any other advantages/differences that are good to know about this?

No you can still use the go-to just level tripod make sure Polaris center of scope or camera then do two star align followed by the polar align option in setting.

hey dude, i'm new on telescopes, and I bought an skywatcher 150p that you reviewed, and it's said that the primary mirror can't be collimated, out at least isn't simply as the others, because he doesn't need to be collimated. Well, i'm having issues on aligning the secondary, and i think i need to collimate the primary because i removed the mirror to clean ( ya, dumb decission), but i don't find any vid or tips for collimate it, there are some guys that said that's easy, but i have no idea how to do... The secondary i think already arrived a bit far from the primary and focuser, but i aligned a bit, but i think that needs a better alignment... I suspect because i'm having a hardtime on 100% focusing on bright starts and planets.
And also, i have an 6mm eyepiece and an 22mm eyepiece and a 2x barlow, i live under light polluted sky( and i know i'm having an worse view because of that), do you have any tip for a better eyepiece or anything to less the light pullution.

I bought this mount over the star adventurer for the go to function and the fact you can firmware update it for EQ - However.... I cannot get the thing aligned. I know the equipment is mounted on the opposite side when the firmware for EQ is updated so I switched the camera to the other side... I've tried 3 star alignment using Sirius first and the camera starts to aim at the floor (Yorkshire is very much in the northern hemisphere). I then tried North level in AZ mode and it worked fine for the other areas I wished to view. Back to EQ and using various alignment options and I cannot get it any where close. I manually move to Sirius and then try to chose rigel and it goes the wrong way.... aaarrrrggggggggggg!! Seriously frustrated and regretting getting this now!

In eq mode how are you supposed to do polar alignment? Considering there is no polar scope.. I do have a polemaster I use with another setup, how can the polemaster be attached to this mount for an accurate polar alignment?
    Thanks! Great video!

There is a universal adapter you can buy that will allow the Polemaster to be used with any EQ mount.

Hello! I would like to know. It will be possible to do astrophotography with upgrade? Maybe 2 minutes shots by 300mm focus? (I thinking about this az-gti for travel and photo or skyadvantures, but it is only for astrophoto without go-to) How you align the polar star without polarscope?

    • @Neanderthal75

Your mount positioned towards North (adjust your elevation on the wedge mount) Have your camera or telescope mounted, you need to see Polaris star through the eyepiece of your scope or your camera's lcd screen (zoomed).

  • @noskanow

With the dual mode firmware loaded and the telescope on the right of the mount facing forwards can it be operated in alt/az mode without the wedge or does the scope have to be moved to the left of the mount?

The latitude EQ base your using looks different than the one on the Skywatcher website
    www.skywatcherusa.com/product/star-adventurer-latitude-eq-base/
I just got the AZ-GTi and I'm wondering if the one sold on their website will screw into the mount head?
How do you do an accurate polar align?
Thanks for the great videos - I'm an avid fan.

Thanks for the video. Just an alert of what happened. The mount was working fine in EQ mode, then I went stargazing in Taiwan up the mountains. Something strange happened, the SSID WiFi of the mount changed by itself and my iPhone cannot access the mount anymore. The WiFi is still there with a different SSID but the iPhone can’t be connected to the mount with a ‘Device not found message’. Very frustrating!

Hi there, and thanks for your message. We've seen something like this after a user changed the name of the WiFi network created by the mount and then couldn't connect to it. Try changing the name of the WiFi in the settings option within the SynScan app and then force your Smartphone to connect to it after first deleting (or 'forgetting' on iPhone) the previous SynScan WiFi network. Let us know if this works out for you. KR RJD A&NTV

Astronomy and Nature TV thank you for the reply! I tried as suggested but could not change the name of the SSID with the SynScan Pro App as the option in Setting is dimmed and could not be accessed. By the way, I did not change the name of the SSID of the mount, it somehow automatically changed by itself.
