For me Amarna period is one of the most fascinating historical periods in sense of art. It appears that this period gave craftsmen the freedom of artistic expression which allowed them to create "realistic" sculptures. And the bust of Nefertiti is one of my the most favorite pieces of the Egyptian art.

The bust of Nefertiti may be a forgery but the museum where its held won't allow scientists to conduct tests and put the speculation to rest. It would be unfortunate if it was discovered that the most famous bust in the world was a fake but considering that ancient Egyptian art is not known for naturalistic depictions it is a possibility.
I understand and agree. Hatshepsut's reign of over twenty years is mindblowingly impressive. A women ruling over all men in the most powerful empire on Earth at the time for so long is simply remarkable! Not to mention that she was actually one of the most accomplished pharaohs of all time as well...🤯
There's so many gaps in our knowledge due to fragmentary sources from the Amarna period. It'd be great to find just even a little about what really happened during Nefertiti's life. Who she was, where she came from, and if she really did become the singular ruler of Egypt after Akhenaten's death. It's fun to speculate. Thanks for the video.
Despite enthusiasm for Akhenaten and Nefertiti as the first monotheists, it has become increasingly clear that the only monotheistic god being worshiped in Akhentaten was Akhenaten and many of the residents were abused, starved, and worked to death very young. He may have been hated for very good reason.
We don’t know where she came from, who her parents were, or if she did become Akhenaten’s heir. Unless somebody discovers ancient writings, new tombs, etc. we won’t know. Actually we know more about the so called Amarna period- the town was named Akhetaten - than other Egyptian periods. Egyptians almost always used titles and ancestors and other information to advertise important people in their tombs or when they were mentioned. If you were a kings daughter or your father was an important person you wanted that known. If you didn’t mention any such thing, you probably weren’t anyone important. I suspect Amonhotep lll, who had hundreds of women from many other countries in his numerous harems, probably brought one of the most beautiful to his court-attractive women were called ornaments of the court and decorated the palace with their presence. She was probably a pretty face, but one who was clever as well, and made the most of her thrall over a rather unattractive man, the son of the pharaoh. We may never know who she was, but if she is KV21B, she was probably murdered in a coup with her daughter Ankhesenamon. DNA tells us KV21A was the mother of the fetuses found in Tutankhamen’s tomb and most likely Ankhesenamon, and the closely related older woman found with her either a sister or mother, and since she was too old to be a sister, mother fits better. Nefertiti was Ankhesenamon’s mother. KV21B is the best candidate for Nefertiti. Read Dennis Forbes excellent book, ‘Bones in a Basket’ and look up KV21B for more information.

Isn't high princess supposed to be a spiritual teacher , highly educated in all the subjects of that era? She is the female counterpart of priest and is advicer and councillor to the king in managing law and order of the land, astrology or reading the almanac, etc. She is supposed to have the knowledge of the stars, movement of water bodies, philosophy. High Priestesses don't marry . They are considered to possess divine knowledge of the Universe. We can still find remains of ancient temples of these spiritual figures. It is said that many people died due to some mysterious disease and Nefertiti's complete family died of that disease. The fact that this video and channel in general does not have millions of views, infuriates me beyond words. The background music is epic, the content legendary! I'm seriously salty.
Not everyone is interested in Ancient Egypt. It's the home for The Muslims, stemming from Abraham's servent Hagar and their son Ishmael. Christianity views Ancient Egypt as idolatrous.

Definitely, not hated. More like most powerful. So much so, Nefertiti sometimes dressed as a pharaoh and had images of her done to make her look like a pharaoh as evident in some of the art discovered. Also, MJ was a fan. Don't you remember the time? Lol.

She was very good for her people. She and her husband led the belief in one G-d. That was considered radical at the time. Many Egyptians opposed her and her husband for their beliefs. King Tut was only kept because he was young and carried out the wishes of those opposed to his father.
The possible candidates for that story are Nefertiti, Meritaten or Ankhsenamun. I should’ve mentioned the other two as possibilities. Thanks for bringing it up.
No one is sure who wrote the letter but Ankhesenamon is a likely candidate. He was assassinated on the way to Egypt-prime purps Ay and Horemheb. Since there was a possibility that Ankhesenamon was possibly forced to marry old Ay, and she was tired of being a pawn, she had reason to write the Hittite king. But the killing of his son made Egypt and Hatti go to war again.

@@HistoryExplained ALSO SHE NEVER DIED! GODS AND GODDESSES DONT DIE THEY LIVE FOREVER! OF COURSE THEY NOT GONNA TELL THE TRUTH BUT A LOT OF TRUTHS IS COMING OUT NOW! LIKE THE SO CALLED BLACK PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY GODS AND GODDESSES!
Amazing work! It should also be noted that Nefertiti had probably more religious influence than her husband, and it is likely that she was the one that converted him to the new religion.
Since the heir was Akhenaten’s older brother Thothmoses, Akhenaten was probably meant for the priesthood and had an education stressing religion from an early age. He probably didn’t plan on being heir, given his utter lack of knowledge of warfare or diplomacy, or how to run an empire. It is clear religion obsessed him, along with gaining the respect and power he craved. Nefertiti obviously went along and supported him, but at some point he was deposed, probably violently, and she probably shared his fate. She was a power behind the throne, but not the architect of her husband’s religion obsession, in my opinion. Whoever wrote that letter asking for a foreigner to come rule over Egypt was no doubt seen as a traitor and cashes the uprising that got rid of pharaoh and his wife. Younger lady, who is buried with Queen Tiye, and the rwo women kv21a and kv21b are Ankhesenamon and likely Nefertiti. DNA evidence indicates a very close relationship and both bodies show evidence of violent injuries before death, as does younger woman. Kv21b is a sister or mother of kv21a but is to old to be a sister, and her lower face, all that remains, is the spitting image of Nefertiti’s depiction on her famous bust. Something bad happened to all these people.
While Nefertiti is often celebrated for her beauty and influence during a pivotal period in Egyptian history, it's essential to remember that her association with the radical religious reforms of her husband, Akhenaten, resulted in significant upheaval and opposition among the Egyptian people. The abrupt shift towards monotheism and the abandonment of traditional deities disrupted the lives of many, and Nefertiti's active role in promoting these changes cannot be ignored. Her legacy is undoubtedly complex, as she was both a powerful queen and a controversial figure, leaving us with questions about the true impact of her reign on ancient Egypt's cultural and religious fabric.
First, i want to say a big BRAVO to the voice-over because all of these difficult names to pronounce oh my, they had weird names LOL 2nd i'm excited that you are posting again ;-) 3rd WAO i had no idea abt the german connection, and afterward the American connection towards the bust of Nefertiti, i learned something tonight LOL and 4th her story demonstrates clearly that women are very strong and whoever thinks otherwise is an idiot LOL Thanks mate ;-)
The narrator is terrific at pronouncing difficult names! I’m happy that you learned something new from this video. I appreciate your continued support Alexia! Thank you!
I am no historian, but I remember watching that documentary by Joann Fletcher, and I fell in love with Nefertiti… I even wrote a poem for her… to me she was epitome of feminism!
Unfortunately, Fletcher made the mistake of having an opinion on who Nefertiti was, did not consult Hawass first, and is now banned from pursuing her profession in Egypt. He’s a windbag, in my opinion, and a rather dangerous one. I hope no one believes anything he says, as he does not practice proper scientific principles and is full of opinions which are not sound.
@@cathaymcrae2401 That's not true, regardless of your opinion of Hawass. The ban was lifted in 2008 and she resumed her work. You should show evidence of your claims of wrongdoing by Hawass instead of accusing him without evidence, which is dishonest. Your type is dangerous.
@@dvrmte I doubt Fletcher fell in love with him. You only have to watch televised programs featuring him to see what an egotistical martinet he is. He had what could have been an interesting series some years ago, despite his grand standing, but he was so abrasive and rude to the student Egyptologists the series was canceled after a couple broadcasts. You may not be a historian but I am and I know several of the working Egyptologists who work in Abydos and Luxor and they are all of the same opinion about Hawass. Hawass starts his excavations in defiance of scientific method, not keeping an open mind, and arriving at an objection conclusion after studying all available information, but instead beginning with his own personal opinions and altering facts to support his initial and often incorrect views. His pronouncements on Hatshepsut and Akhenaten being the father of Tutankhamen are some of the more flagrant. A personal friend and toady of Mubarak, he was at one point under arrest for inconsistencies in his handling of his position as minister of supreme council of antiquities. He was also accused of stealing ancient artifacts. It was certainly true that no discovery in Egypt could be announced until he had appeared on the scene after the work had been done to take credit for the find. Why not google the copious information on the internet relating to ‘the fall of Zahi Hawass’? Don’t take my word for it, along with dozens of others. Politics and personal ego should not influence history and archeology. Just my opinion and you have yours.
The most significant find since Carter's discovery of King Tut, will be Queen Cleopatra and Alexander the Great!!!! It is Queen Cleopatra that has captured the world fascination - her wittiness, her genius, her intellect!!! If both queens were to be discovered today, who of the two would captivate the world most??? Yes, Queen Cleopatra!!!

Omg !! I can’t believe how lucky I feel to find this channel !! Thank you so much !!
I happy to hear that :)
Just discovered your channel yesterday and by now I've already seen all of your videos! I really like the quality and quantity of informations. Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate that! Thank you so much!
Great video!
Another nice 10 minute mark. 👌
Thank you! It's so frustrating having that extra 1 second in th final time. I still haven't figured why it's happening. In Premiere Pro it shows 10:00, but on YT it shows 10:01... 😑
@@HistoryExplained I think TH-cam always does that. Maybe try do 9:59 video next time then.
@@deteon1418 yea you’re right.
Great job, as always. Thanks ,😊
Thanks Bishop!
The fact that this video and channel in general does not have millions of views, infuriates me beyond words. The background music is epic, the content legendary! I'm seriously salty.
Thank you Jordan!
Not everyone is interested in Ancient Egypt. It's the home for The Muslims, stemming from Abraham's servent Hagar and their son Ishmael. Christianity views Ancient Egypt as idolatrous.
This channel needs more than 29K subs
Thanks!
@@HistoryExplained my theory is that your current type of content that you cover is not popular enough with the masses for it to be recommended in their feeds. My advice is to have patience and continue doing them, as Roman history has been getting a lot of popularity lately on TH-cam and you aren't far from it
Ahhh!! Can’t believe I woke up to a new vid from my pal History Explained! Super awesome video as always my friend. You always pack so much info and history into each one. Well done 👍
Thanks so much Tim!

Nefertiti and Hatshepsut are two remarkable women. I really admire their intelligence and strength. Two feminist icons IMO.
I agree Leticia!

This video was very interesting and informative; I learned a lot about this incredible figure, so thank you very much for uploading this :) It is believed that her mummy *may* have been found but I'm not sure... She's the most famous Egyptian royal. Lots of mysteries surround her making her a lot more interesting. Waiting for her tomb to be discovered. Some even suggest she had alien origin.
LEAVE HER TOMB ALONEE 😭

The statues of Nefertiti in Berlin and that of Poppea, wife of Nero, in Greece, are the ones I consider most beautiful in absolute

The Tut exhibit stopped in Minneapolis a few years ago. I noticed that, on a large statue of Atkenat....his ears are pointed, almost like a Vulcan.

Definitely, not hated. More like most powerful. So much so, Nefertiti sometimes dressed as a pharaoh and had images of her done to make her look like a pharaoh as evident in some of the art discovered. Also, MJ was a fan. Don't you remember the time? Lol.

Thanks for your patience Kasey!
One of the historic strongest and most beautiful woman
I agree!
She was very good for her people. She and her husband led the belief in one G-d. That was considered radical at the time. Many Egyptians opposed her and her husband for their beliefs. King Tut was only kept because he was young and carried out the wishes of those opposed to his father.
Great point Harlan
Belief in one G_d being 'good' is subjective. Maybe egyptians preferred a more extensive menu.
Excellent video ❤
My favorite ancient Egyptian queen will always be Nefertiti.
Thanks for watching
I just love Egyptian history
Isn't the history, about the prince from Hattusa, being assasineted connected to Ankhsenamun, not Nefretiti?
The possible candidates for that story are Nefertiti, Meritaten or Ankhsenamun. I should’ve mentioned the other two as possibilities. Thanks for bringing it up.
@@HistoryExplained No problem. And the video is great anyway, as always!
you are correct--the video is wrong
Yes it was Ankhesenpaaten. Meritaten was already in Eire at that point.
I loved the video... Great work... I love ancient Egypt.. Mystery and culture... I also like the icon of ancient spartan soldier.. Λ = Λακεδαιμων = Lakedemon means spartan in ancient Greek I m from Greece I love our history I m so proud... Spartans were the example of a few resist the many... Because the right always wins..

Ancient Egypt is so interesting
Amazing work! It should also be noted that Nefertiti had probably more religious influence than her husband, and it is likely that she was the one that converted him to the new religion.
No proof of that at all
Since the heir was Akhenaten’s older brother Thothmoses, Akhenaten was probably meant for the priesthood and had an education stressing religion from an early age.
@@cathaymcrae2401 Lots of probablys'. Check the literature, what I said isn't my own.
Thank you very much!
This makes sense as she was brought there.
Woot!!
😄

I am no historian, but I remember watching that documentary by Joann Fletcher, and I fell in love with Nefertiti… I even wrote a poem for her… to me she was epitome of feminism!
Unfortunately, Fletcher made the mistake of having an opinion on who Nefertiti was, did not consult Hawass first, and is now banned from pursuing her profession in Egypt. He’s a windbag, in my opinion, and a rather dangerous one. I hope no one believes anything he says, as he does not practice proper scientific principles and is full of opinions which are not sound.
@@cathaymcrae2401 oh, that zahi hawaas guy… I read something like that, but didn’t know she was banned forever…
Joann Fletcher's opinions are hopelessly flawed and are NOT based upon forensic evidence.

That would be incredible
Thanks for the information.
Queen Hatshepsut was one of Kemet's greatest rulers, man or woman. Among her many accomplishments, she sent voyage's to America LONG before Columbus!
