In this episode Mira & John start their USA section of their Dogpacking World Tour north of Helena MT at the world famous Llama Ranch. Using the GDMBR and the CDT to ride west to the Western Wildlands Route they enjoy some beautiful fall riding in northern Montana.
Join Mira and John as they dogpack the Americas. Last summer they rode the GDMBR, The Oregon Timber Trail, Orogenisis, Wild West route, Baja Divide, Trans Mexico_Norte and many others.
This year as the borders open they are riding south to towards the tip of South America.

I had a day last week with lots of fallen logs, timber piled ready for the logging trucks and lots of blackberries growing blocking the single-track trail. Just like your little stretch at the beginning of the GDMBR. Lifting a fully loaded fat-tyre bikepacking rig over and around all that fallen timber was tough going. It made me appreciate how heavy your bike must be sometimes with all the extra stuff for Mira. At least we don't have bears to worry about in Australia.
Yesterday, I encountered a really high fence. After unpacking some of my stuff, I was able to slide my bike sideways under a locked gate. That was after I raised the height of the gap under the gate a few inches, by using a tree branch as a fulcrum with a big rock as a pivot. My handlebars and rear rack got scuffed a little. Saved going back 10km up a steep hill though. The reward was a beautiful camping spot just 2km further along. So worth the hassle.

I’m so in awe of your adventure. When I grow up, or get the skills, I want to go on a ride like this. I lost my dog a month ago, she was 15.9 yrs. Your video shows how dogs are amazing best friends and they want adventures, too! 💜 All smiles and hearts from California, wishing you an incredible vistas, experiences, health, safety and friendships along your adventures.

Just rewatching this. Yours and Ryan’s channels are my favourites. I hope the GDMBR route gets some maintenance soon. It’s going to be indistinguishable in places soon.
It sure seemed fine to us. Most of it is pretty good gravel Road with only a few spots that are rough. The challenge comes on some of those dirt roads when it’s raining, then it becomes a real mess😜💕🐕

Finally got around to watching your videos. Wow so great. I've never owned a dog and certainly wouldn't describe myself as a dog person, but Mira is one of a tiny number of dogs I have come across that really make me consider having one now I'm retired. I wonder if Mira has just got a naturally wonderful temperament, or home much is down to your training and care of her when she was little.

I stayed at the ranch but took marsh creek to Lincoln. Looks like you took the hard way. I do remember seeing the divide trail at the top of the pass but thought that was a hiking trail
The world makes sense when viewed from the saddle of a bike. Add a dog, and you are in heaven.
I think we agree Doug. Fresh air and some exercise with a dog are simple things but good medicine 🤗💕🐕
