The fact that you've put in the blood sweat and tears in the restaurant world, and have the accumulated wisdom to match, is such a breath of fresh air compared to most TH-cam cooking channels. Rock on!
Not only that but his recipes are mostly straightforward and explained in a simple and easy to follow manner with humour. .. probably my favourite online Chef.
His level of enthusiasm and excitement is so much fun to watch. He’s a great cook hands down. I love how he tells people to try things and just get out there and experiment. 👍🏻 👍🏻
Not only has my cooking improved considerably, but my pleasure of cooking has returned. The joy of cooking incarnated! My career was in music, film score and albums. Music is all about timing, when to bring in and when to take out this instrument and that motif. Sonny cooks like the finest of composers and musicians.
Hear, hear I stopped watching cooking videos a long time ago and this is really the only cooking channels I actively watch now bc all the other channels and personalities are just copies of each other. Plus he seems like a legit nice guy. Oh, I lied, I also watch Max from Tasting History. He's another food/Bev channel that I think is really neat and entertaining. Oh, and Chef John 🤙🏻
My parents were both executive chefs. I worked with 300 premier chefs selling very high end steaks. So I know what I’m talking about. This guy should have his own show. Because he can explain complicated things well and keep it simple.
Sonny, you should look into the etymology of this dish. In Italian, "scampi" is a type of crustacean that is like a small lobster or an ocean crayfish or a langoustine. It is not the name of a pasta dish. Italian-Americans didn't have access to this kind of crustacean in the US, so they made a dish roughly equivalent to the scampi pasta they made in Italy, but using shrimp instead of scampi. But in order for people who were familiar with the dish from the old country to recognize it, they called it pasta with shrimp scampi, meaning they were using shrimp instead of scampi for this pasta dish. If you have access to langoustines, crayfish, or some other similar small lobster, it may be worth trying this recipe with those instead of shrimp to see if it is any better using something more similar to what would have been originally used.
Dude always brightens my day and helps me and my wife settle the age old question of what should we make for dinner! He has something for everyone! You and Sarge do it right. Thank you.
Between Sonny, Chef John, and Jean Pierre, I have learned more in a year than I have in my entire life! ANY chef that shares what they’ve sweated and bled to learn over decades, is an awesome soul in my book. Keep it up Sonny, you’re hilarious, dude!!
This was truly one of the best cooking videos I have ever seen on TH-cam! Teaching techniques as you quickly move through the dish and coaxing flavor from items that most people throw away is brilliant! My first visit to your channel and definitely not my last! Well done, dude! 😘
People made fun of Rachael Ray’s “Garbage Bowl” but I’ve used none ever since I saw her first show. It’s so handy especially today with the turn towards composting food waste. It makes it neat and easy. Glad to see you on board.
Never comment on anything but when Sonny asks, here we are! You are a such a gift dude you have no idea, this video is a great example of your ability to educate and entertain everytime whilst always genuinely wanting to equip the masses with the skills you worked so hard to master. First class
I made this but used sautéed summer squash for pasta because some of the guests were doing keto. It came out FANTASTIC. Used heirloom grape sized tomatoes to blister. People were very happy.
This is by far the best cooking show on TH-cam. So many handy tricks along with the recipes. He’s probably one the most skilled chefs on the platform. Most TH-cam chefs just cook wagyu every time to mask their lack of skill, so boring.
This is a good "introductory" video if you want to show him to your friends. I mean the recipe looks amazing and he literally starts out the video coming out of the fridge like he was having a meeting in there.
My grandma would put the shrimp shells and head into the blender, add some water and blend it. She would strain it and then squeeze with her hands the shells to get the rest of the juice out of them. Nothing was wasted😊. Thank you for bringing back the memories!
I watch some older videos and it seems u were ordinary, good recipes and tips, but now ur comical, fun to watch, enjoy ur teaching techniques, plus u kick that fridge's butt, sgt gilbert looks wicked, like a 60mm mortar,ur like that cool teacher everyone should have for a semester. Thank U
Made this meal tonight. . . . . . FANTASTIC ! ! The wife absolutely loved it also. I could hardly contain myself from denting the refrigerator. But, my wife said if I did, she was going to buy the big $4,000 model she had her eye on. Yea, I didn’t !
Your humour and energy put into explaining and teaching your dishes is insane... and so creative! never mind one million... that’s a given... two million will soon come! Poor fridge....
Definitely gonna make this. Prep info is priceless Also, gonna share with relatives that l o v e shrimp Thanks Sonny you're the best chef on TH-cam ❤🤗🙋🏼♀️
I am addicted to your videos !! Every one of them is an inspiration. You make it look so simple but the results are Michelin Star material !! I’ve tried quite a few and the results are superb. Love the hilarity of SGT. Gilbert and the poor fridge. I actually thought my Scampi was worthy but this takes it to the extreme and I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for what you do !!
I watch a lot of cooking videos for enjoyment and recipes. IMO your recipes are the best not to mention how much fun the videos are. I really appreciate the tutorial aspect of the videos. Many TH-cam cooking videos just show the recipes but yours really teach me many things about cooking which is the most enjoyable activity I do. I really love and appreciate this video today. Thanks for your enthusiasm and desire to teach us all the tricks and chef tips. You’re my favorite!
My word Sonny, by far the best looking shrimp scampi I've ever seen. I've made a very good version of it for years but this is definitely next level. Can't wait to make this. Thanks for sharing buddy.
This recipe is insanely good looking and delicious looking. My indonesian grandma used to use shrimp heads in a similar way, to make this beautiful orange umami potion. We’d have it with white rice, cooked eggs and bell peppers. Just remembering it makes me happily emotional. And hungry. Thanks, chef!
Can’t get enough of your shows. I can’t cook well at all for some reason and seeing how you do things gives me the confidence to try and cook a great meal.
You are literally my favorite person to watch on TH-cam! I love to cook and I’m pretty good at it (so I’ve been told) 😎 but, I love learning from you and making your recipes! The food I’ve made using your recipes is the best food I’ve ever cooked! Keep ‘em coming bud!!! Also, keep kicking that fridge’s ass! Haha
This one is definitely going on the give-it-a-go list. And with Good Friday just around the corner a perfect dish to put on the table for the family to enjoy. You are an absolute champion. Love your channel and the inspiration you provide for a rookie cook like me to expand my culinary horizons.
Man… you’re just killin it. I’m so glad you’re seemingly getting all the success you deserve. These days, I check your channel before I go to the grocery store, and I study the videos. My family has a great scampi recipe, but the shell rue, the parsley at the last possible second- all awesome tips where now that family recipe is innovated forever. **For the viewers- dry vermouth adds another layer of flavor if you want to go beyond the white wine** Keep it up Sonny! We’re rooting for you!
Sonny, there's a trick for shelling and de-veining the shrimp in a simpler motion: use small scissors, stick the lower prong into the hole where the vein is, and snip along the back of the shrimp. This snips through the shell and exposes the vein in one go. Most small scissors with pointy tips work for this, but if you want an optimized tool, there are shrimp scissors you can buy that are slightly curved that do this task better.
The only thing new to me here was the blistered tomatoes. Gonna try it. Butapart from that, EVERITHING you've mentioned here, Sonny: is all of the best ways and tricks about cooking shrimp and noodles. (Btw: for deveining, many use a toothpick. Pulling it out with the back of your knife is fine. For beginners: toothpicks are safer.) BRAVO! Greetings from the far north of Germany!
This Dude makes me wanna come back and come back to see him. he is such a character. makes me laugh a lot and learn so much from him. Greetings from So Cal. pal.
I made an incredible brisket on my newly finished offset smoker. I was so excited after my first bite that did a spinning hammer fist punch to the fridge followed by a wooden spoon throw! You should have seen the looks from my family - and the silence was deafening! Thank you for the inspiration!
i want to see a food challenge between thatdudecancook and matty matheson. They both instill cooking confidence into their viewers just in such different ways nut i think they both bring enough chaotic energy to make it fun
One of your actual best videos yet Sonny. You should be proud. Top tier cooking recipe video. You are to me what Food Wishes is to my mom... but sky's the limit for you.
WOW, I have collected heaps of these shrimp pasta recipes, - and some of them are good, BUT this one dude, blows em out of the water, I cant wait to try this - Thankyou
Now it all makes sense! You're like a genie in a bottle. Except that you're a chef in a fridge, everytime someone kicks the fridge you pop out and cook something amazing! 😂 But on a serious note I've tried several of your recipies and they're always amazing. 💕
What I like about this channel is no matter how many times he cuts parsley, for example, he still shows us how to do it the best way. Props my guy, looks great!!
Over the top,i mean in a good way..you're pleasantly insane..by far the best video and idea you came up with ( coming out of the fridge is golden globe awards material)...and you're a top notch chef too, hands down...by the way, trofie ..perfect pronunciation, tipically used in Liguria with Pesto...love you
I absolutely adore this man. Hes a brilliant chef and hes STUPIDLY funny. I can't stop laughing, admiring and respecting this man's monster talent. Well done brother.
Could not be happier to have stumbled upon this channel last week. I’ve only seen a couple of videos and you have so much variety in your cooking already! The fridge punishment bit will also never get old. Keep being you! Also, do you have a cook book by chance?
"Oh the fridge is gonna get it" 😂😂😂, but what does sergeant gilbert think of all this? Between gilbert and the fridge, you manage to make these hilarious. Nice job 👊

Since finding your videos I can't stop watching then and making the recipes, you really know what you are doing, and make it so entertaining and fun, you seem very cool and would be fun to hang with and cook and punch refrigerators lol!!
