    For those still deciding which race to choose, heres a break down:
    Terran's is probably the most tactical and versatile race. They have a versatile bio army as well as many tactical mech units that can be very powerful if used correctly.
    Zerg tends to expand quicker, and the idea is to develop a swarm (excuse the pun) of zerg units and cover the map in creep, and attack from every angle possible to overwhelm your opponents.
    Protoss are the high tech alien race. Their units tend to be more expensive, but they are generally much more powerful and cost efficient than zerg or terran units. If you like building a big powerful deathball to steam roll over your opponents, then look no further.

    • @朕是神
      @朕是神 7 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      Here's the REAL breakdown.
      Terran: Marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines marines
      Zerg: google "zerg rush"
      Protoss: A move.
      Koreans: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

    • @zaxtonhong3958
      @zaxtonhong3958 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Zerg is less "swarm from all sides" and more "swarm much earlier than other races" Zerg can build and rebuild faster than other races. Hit your enemies as soon as you have a maxed army, rebuild, and ware down your enemies.
      Protoss is a very "all or nothing" race. It has a very powerful main army, capable of beating the other 2 in a straight up fight (unless you're at the grandmaster level). Their units are either gimmicky or powerful attackers.

    This is not meant to be a step by step guide to grandmaster. It is meant to give you tools to start working your way forward, tools that I learned (painfully) over thousands of games and hours (up to grandmaster as all 3 races) and expedite that starting process that took me literally months if not years. I didn't cover EVERYTHING I would have liked to but I hope this helps some new (or old) players looking to get into the most competitive game in the world.

      Ben Mun most of the times are things like:
      "Not enough units"
      "Not enoguh production"
      "Not enough money"
      "Not enough supply"
      "Not enough vision"
      And sometimes, you dont know what to use, to kill certain units/unit compostions. I recomend to see what unit is "good" against what unit. Gl Hf.

    That's not an example of the sunk cost fallacy but I get your point anyway. The sunk cost fallacy would be like you've been dating a girl for 15 years and on year 15 she goes batshit crazy, the correct move is to leave her but you stay because you've already invested 15 years - You're weighing the COST that has already been SUNK in making you decision and this my friend would be a fallacious argument. Gold level terran here, love your videos.

    I played Zerg way back in SC1 (when I was like 6), and as SC2 is free and I’m getting into it now as a bit more of a real strategist, I’ve been again playing more Zerg than everything else, just because I remember loving Zerg back then. I kinda tried Protoss a little bit, but I like Zerg better.
    Now, I don’t really understand the MMR ratings in SC2, but ranked started me against 3500 MMR. My first game, I basically Zergling + Roach rushed him and completely wrecked him, shutting him down before he could even do anything. I had 100+ APM, he had like 25. After that was when I started being placed against 3500 MMR players and I haven’t won either of the 2 ranked games I’ve played since.

    "very low," and "not so much"

    Nice vids winter.
    Agree! APM isn't important. Just focus on doing the right things, after enough of games, when actions become instinct and APM goes up.
    I started the game with 70 apm on average(a lot of ineffective actions) playing Terran. I got to around 90 when I learnt how to execute a specific build order; and then 100 when I don't get supply block; and 110 when I never stop the production while focusing on macro; now I'm average on 160 playing T and 220 Zerg since I can mix in some unit micro while macroing. It's just a process.
    Also, please don't let the ego take control of you. Complaining imba/op doesn't make you better, and people win because they deserve to win. Remember SC is a game where you'll be better than 80% of players just by knowing and effectively utilizing the game mechanism, you don't get to complain about the game and you opponents until you're in top 20%.

    This video and the Zerg guide got me through my placement matches and into silver 1. Only won one match since then, probably should be in bronze. Still, not bad for someone who had only ever played the campaigns. Definitely recommend it if you have not given it a go yet.

    I'm playing through the campaign again after quitting out of frustration 3 year ago. I think the trick is to cycle through your tasks (workers, combat, etc.) instead of only doing one thing at once. I'm doing much better now since I realized I need to plan ahead of time by consistently building supply depots so I don't get supply blocked even if I don't need to train anyone at that moment. I feel much more confident than I did years ago.

    I'm not sure if it was this video or a different one, but in one of Winter's recent videos he mentioned a rule of thumb concerning how many games the average player needs to play per day in order to expect progress:
    5 games per day per league, starting with Silver:
    5 - silver
    10 - gold
    15 - platinum
    20 - diamond
    25 - master
    So for most people, 5 games per day can eventually get you to low gold. 10 per day can eventually get you low plat, etc.
    That seems like a very good thing to keep mentioning because it helps in goal setting - how many games per day are you willing to play? 5? Then your aim should be at low gold. 10? Low plat, etc. So if your goal is to be in master league, you should be expecting to spend about 4 hours per night playing StarCraft.
    So the next question is, how long should you expect to spend playing that many games per night in order to attain your goal? Here's my uninformed guess:
    1 month - silver
    3 months - gold
    7 months - plat
    13 months - diamond
    21 months - master
    I was on a 15 person dev team for a while that had 4 people in it who played WoW for 5 to 7 hours a night. They just went home, ate dinner, and played WoW and went to bed. At like 11 or midnight or 1. That was their daily life. Not that they never got out or did anything different, but that was their typical day. And they seemed quite happy and even reasonably well balanced emotionally / socially. And they were even reasonably effective professionally. I read somewhere that time spent on hobbies is very highly correlated with happiness.

    As someone who grew up with command and conquer and WC3 in my basement when i was just a child during summer breaks. I kind of fell out of the RTS scene but was always a big fan to play them. Unfortunately for me I was a Human player on WC3 so I accidentally gave myself a handicap to play against since the humans were... less than optimal.
    I've been thinking about getting back into RTS games (starcraft for the first time) and was leaning towards the zerg. I don't know why, I haven't looked into it at all yet but the concept really appealed to me.

    What is "supply capped"?
    I haven't played the game at all, so a lot of the recommendations about what is a bad thing to improve on went over my head.

    • @bradenturner3829
      @bradenturner3829 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to build certain buildings (Protoss: Pylons, Zerg: Overlords, and Terran: Supply Depots). to keep up your supply, or you are not allowed to build any more units, which you need to win the game obviously.

    • @zaxtonhong3958
      @zaxtonhong3958 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Starcraft is about building more army than your enemy. What you build doesn't matter as much as building more stuff!!!
      Every army unit and worker costs supply.
      When you reach your max supply, you are "supply blocked" because you cannot produce more workers or army units.
      If you are supply blocked for a second or two, that's all right, but if you get supply blocked, and you haven't started building a pylon, supply depot, or overlord, you're slowing yourself down.
      That's 15 or so seconds of you not producing any units, which is very bad.

    • @eclipseilx1103
      @eclipseilx1103 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In StarCraft each unit takes up supply, you start with 14 I believe from your main base and build supply Depot, pylon, overlords or more bases to raise supply, once you get your max available supply up to 200 you can't raise it anymore, let's say u have 45/45 supply and try to make a marine which takes up one supply... It won't train because you need to have available supply that's supply block, supply cap is 200/200 there's no way to surpass 200 supply

    • @bradenturner3829
      @bradenturner3829 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eclipse II TE5 there is a way, bank up a crap load of minerals like 15k, then you turn your drones into spine crawlers and then start producing zerglings, then cancel the spines and you have over supply? I haven't tried it so I don't know if that works, I think I saw winter do it one time but still.

    Haven't watched the video as a whole yet, but still do want to say thanks for putting a guide like this up. I've played AoE pretty much since I was 4 years old (Never was good at it, lol) and wanted to try something new and saw that STarcraft 2 was free to play. But playing one RTS game and then jumping straight into a different series can be a little overwhelming with how different the two games are from one another.
