Diamond Edge SB1 Review

  • Diamond Edge SB1 Review. In this video, I extensively review and talk about tuning the Diamond Edge SB1. To do that, I test the speed of the Diamond Edge SB1 at peak weight and all of the draw lengths. I then check the draw weight of the Diamond Edge SB1 after every turn of the limb bolt all the way down to the lowest settings. I compiled all of the data and share it with you in this video. I also give you the pros and cons of the Diamond Edge SB1. I'm still in the process of building a web page with the data charts, so check back in about two weeks for that.
    I mentioned some tools I recommend having for tuning as well as my video on how to make a draw board. Here is the link for the video on how to make a draw board - www.youtube.co....
    Below are the links to the bow tuning tools I talked about.
    Levels - amzn.to/2XsilaM
    D Loop Pliers - amzn.to/2YGNzfM This link for the D Loop pliers is different than the one I have, but I like this one better because you can do more with it, such as clamp-on nocks.
    Sharpie - amzn.to/2xCJjSB
    Bow String Wax - amzn.to/2JkjrBK
    Allen Wrench Set - amzn.to/2LIBfIj
    Needle Nose Pliers - amzn.to/2xxSuUh
    Bow Press - amzn.to/2JjQAgG
    Scale for testing draw weight - amzn.to/2LPhcIj
    Bow Vise - amzn.to/2XtwUeg
    Scissors for removing serving - amzn.to/2xAqTSA

    Picked up this bow after extensive research on it. Came across your videos before my purchase, I can’t thank you enough for basic tuning and your review. I am not able to find experienced bow hunters to give me advice, so you have filled those shoes... I achieved a childhood dream of mine by taking out my first buck in my first year of deer hunting by other extensive research. Coming up to my second and I am VERY comfortable with my bow and I have patterned the deer on my private land well. I’ve watched your videos extensively, though i’ve probably watched your “SB-1” videos 20-30 times each, I try my best to learn everything I can about just bow tuning and my bow.

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures Thank you! Also, If you dont mind me asking, would you recommend broad head tuning or just sighting in my bow with broadheads? Last year, I broadhead tuned my arrows the best I could to my field tips, but was a bit uncomfortable with moving my rest especially after seeing how it affected my arrow flight. I only got my fixed blade broadheads and field tips to shoot within a palm sized group at 40 yards. You also mentioned broadhead tuning would be a bit more difficult with solid limbs compared to a bow with a yoke system. If you have free time, could you make a broadhead tuning video or link me to one if I haven’t seen it on your channel.

      @@MrPoopyHeadd I personally recommend broad head turning the bow. If the flight is off due to tuning, the arrows will hit farther off the mark the farther back you move from the target. God bless you.

    Sean, fantastic content! I think the analogy of practicing with a bow and practicing any form of spirituality is a powerful one. Eastern religions often do a much better job of of handling the notion of sin than we have done as Christians. I think there are some long standing structural elements......ahhh... anyway... loved the video!

      agreed. No matter the religion, i get happy to see people are still willing to live god conscious. As you said, unfortunately the worldy desires has took over mans heart. Satan is persuading many people. But i guess that just means were getting greater good deads, as it is just becoming more and more difficult to follow GODs way and path in this days society and its pressures. We are all one on this earth. All for the same reason. To be tested. As we will part this temporary life and live an eternal one, either in heaven where its beauty is unimaginable, or in hell where its torture is unimaginable. Do not fall into sins brothers. We must fight.. together.. help one another so we can benefit from each other to be better persons. God bless. Peace be upon you all

    My SB-1 arrived today. Thanks for taking the time to make this great video. I especially wanted to think you for the tip where you used a silver marker to mark the limb bolt and limb so you can better monitor how much you've turned the bolt as you adjust the draw weight.

      Sean - I had a chance to shoot the new SB-1 today and I really like it. I also have 2 Elite bows and 2 Obsession bows, they are not nearly as adjustable as this SB-1. I'm shooting it at a DL of 26.0 (that's how it came), which is 1/2 inch shorter than my other bows and do believe I have finally stumbled upon my true DL. I've still got to install the peep and slide to sight to the right a tad (arrow POI is right of where I'm aiming) . I didn't check the DW, but I was able to draw it back will almost no problem. I've had both rotator cuffs repaired and was concerned that it's DW would be too heavy for me.
      Take care.

    Great review. I got one to start archery a few months ago and it is a good bow I like it a lot. I am 5-8 and am using the 27" draw@ what I figure is 56lbs.
    I have replaced the sight-viper archery venom 1000 and rest with a drop rest, a nap apache. I am a lefty so I have to double check the handed for gear.
    For a new Archer this bow works great, though the rest came too low,the d loop too low etc.
    For the peep sight, I did not use a press, I got one of those string splitters and used thatas well as I dropped the pull weight down to ~28lbs and the peep went in easy, slipped the pointed end in, twisted the tool and the string was all separated.
    One thing I did not notice is if you mentioned the dot "pull weight" on the side of the bow at the adjustment bolts. 10 dots. Each dot - should- be 7 lbs of pull. The weight adjustment lining the dot with the line on the side of the bow goes first dot= 7, then 14 21 28 35 42 49 56 63 then last dot=70. Overall, love the bow. Did whack my forearm once but watching your videos and other videos I have learned alot, while I have not shot further than 30 yards yet (no place to shoot in my area besides my back yard) my groupings are..decent for a beginner (who has not touched a bow for 43 years -i am 53 now) and getting tighter as I practice at 30 yards the group is about 6" I want to get that to 3" or less.
    Thanks for your thorough reviews and videos they are very informative to me.

      Risky splitting the string that way. Not recommended but hopefully you didn’t damage any strands.

    Last week my bottom limb pocket and limb exploded from me drawing the bow for a practice shot. Fortunately bowtech is sending parts to my local pro shop for repair. Make sure you guys inspect those limbs on the regular. This is my second SB-1 and I had a similar issue with the first bow within 2 days of shooting. The bottom limb started splitting and I took it back to the store and they gave me a new bow. Other than that, I killed 2 deer last year with complete pass through.

    Hey Sean, I recently purchased the sb-1 as my first bow. I’ve been shooting everyday for over a week now and am enjoying the process of learning how to shoot and site in this bow. I’m wondering if I should upgrade my site already? The one that came with it seams pretty minimal and kinda janky. I can’t seem to shoot consistently with it. As far as I tell everything is set up correctly.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sight doesn't impact your accuracy. The difference in sights is often just in how easily it can be adjusted and how bright the pins appear. Everything else is a set system. Try doing wall back tuning to see if maybe the arrow rest is not centered. Usually it is shooter error. Make sure your bow is properly tuned and check your shooting form before worrying about changing your sight.

      You have to add twist to the cable on the cam that hits first. I talk about it in other tuning videos I've made. If it is only slightly out it usually is fine but the farther out it goes the worse the bow performs.

    So I purchased an SB-1 online and was enjoying it. I had 10-15 arrows through it an was in the process of paper tuning when the string jumped off the top cam! I backed the limbs way off and got it back together. I checked the draw length modules, draw weight adjustment ( marked with a silver sharpie) and the cam timing that was spot on? I shot two more arrows and the second shot it jumped off again! 29” at 58 lbs of draw weight. I can’t find anything obvious, is it cam lean? Have you ever had this happen? Any advice would be great. Thank You

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a cam lean problem. I haven't had it happen on that bow but on a PSE Stinger. You may need to shim the cam. Check to see if they put the wider shimming the wrong side of the cam. It could have been an error on the assembler's part.

    • @shawnharper3440
      @shawnharper3440 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures Thank You! The thicker shim is on the control cable side, on top and bottom cam? With the poundage backed way off you can see significant lean.I purchased it online and patiently waiting on the vendors response. I have a local Diamond dealer that said he would look at it. More to come, again thank you for the response.

    I have a question coming from being brand new this, I'm still researching about how to shoot a compound bow and which one to get. Once I sight a bow, will that remain set or does this process need to be repeated often?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once your bow is properly tuned you can sight in the bow. It shouldn't need to be changed unless you change something else about your shooting. For instance, if you decide to change your anchor point you'll probably need to adjust the sights. In most cases though, you shouldn't need to change ànything else or need to redoe the sighting in process

    Thanks again for this video. I bought a Diamond Edge SB-1 because in researching it, I found this video and it was so clear and easy to understand. After shooting it for a handful of months, it's fantastic. And my 22 year old is getting into archery as well now. We've been taking turns shooting recurves and the SB-1. I'm ready to buy my next compound so that my 22 year old can just keep the SB-1 and I get my own. :) So, the question is should I buy a second SB-1 or should get a step up and if I was to get the step up, what would that be? I'd be looking to take whatever I get deer hunting next fall. Thoughts?

    I was wondering about the tutorial or review on the diamond age for finding centre shot. Basically the string technique. I did that had a broken arrow but I cut down to line up everything and that part worked well but what I was wondering was The cams aren’t centred on the ball and the drawstring is not centred with that no make the arrow crooked using that method. When I was finished and locked down from the top to line things up with Mayeye it looked like it was Cutting to the left quite a bit. Anyways what are your thoughts on that regards Danny from Ontario Canada

    • @seansoutdoors

      That technique doesn’t work for the diamond. You’ve got to measure off the riser in the front and back

    Hey sean,
    I’m trying to help a friend out. We can not achieve 70lb draw weight at 28.6 dl. Both limbs are bottomed out and only get 61# . Any ideas to get it to 70?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct. Due to the design of the draw module it is not possible to achieve 70 unless you are at the maximum draw length. However, you should be getting more like 65. You probably need to shorten the cables. I'd take them off and measure to see if they are at the manufacturer's specified length. I suspect they are a little long from stretching.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just add twist to shorten them if that is the case.

    • @seansoutdoors

      It will work fine for hunting. I never recommend long shots for bow hunting regardless of the bow. It is best to keep your shots within 25 yards to maximize your chances of success. The farther out you go, the greater the chances of something going wrong by the time the arrow gets there.

    • @seansoutdoors

      With 170 grains at the tip 340 may not be enough spine. If you have trouble getting it to tune them get a stiffer shaft. As far as make and model, good tip are definitely good and the model is up to you. The hunters are good for hunting so that should be good.

I play golf, and generally you always should use the same ball type i.e. always use ProV1 or so forth, so you always have the same Flight and spin characteristics. Dose the same hold true for arrows?

If you are having trouble because the arrow is flexing a little too much, then you could try lowering the weight up front a little. Try it first though. I have at times used arrows from my practice bunch to hunt with if I am running out of the 6 that I had set aside for hunting.
