  • How to tune a compound bow including paper tuning, yoke tuning, center shot the rest, setting the nock point, twisting the peep sight.
    For the little levels used in setting the rest height, I have this set amzn.to/2Btrq8f but an even less expensive set is this set amzn.to/2DBs1q7

    Mr Sean,my name is Pablo and I live in North Alabama,I'm the only hunter in my family so I learned everything myself. Few weeks ago I decided to take the big step and switch from rifle to compound bow(never ever hold one in my hands before) so,as you can imagine,I was lost in another world. Luckily for me I came across your channel and within 5 min I hit that suscribe button.
    Mr Sean,your knowledge and experience is priceless,but the fact that you share this info for beginners like me is beyond anything else I could've found,I have follow every single recommendation and tip and my improvements are great.
    Im 31 years old and thanks to people like you I can keep growing as a hunter. Thank you sir!!

    Hey there , brother Sean. I'm a disabled veteran and single father of two grade school sons. My wife passed away last year, leaving me stressed, emotionally broken and defeated. I turned my head back to Jesus and begged for healing. So far, so good. In order to start "living" again, I turned toward some old hobbies (boxing, art , running etc...) and some new ones. Archery had me in love from the first knock. Lol. Anyway , I watch all your videos and was really blessed to find them. I get to learn more about archery and from a fellow man of God! Thankyou.

    Awesome video on bow tuning I got a diamond bow had it setup at sportsman’s and got it home and couldn’t get a grouping better than 6 inches spread out I have had the bow for a year and finnally decided it must be me , I watched your video tuned it found out the measurement to string was an 8 th of an inch off even tho the bow itself showed it was identical on its markings I tightened the one side got them to match up and I have a one inch or better grouping now shooting bulls every time never would have made it happen without your video thank you !!!

  • @mooganoid

    Hi Sean, thank you so much for your very in-depth tuning guide! One trick I learnt was centering the rest with string-I discovered my arrow was way to the left.
    I did the task slightly different which doesn't require a cut arrow. I tied a string AROUND the bolts as a loop and pulled tight (as like a tank track around two wheels). This allowed the arrow to sit between the two strings and thus use a full arrow.

  • @DadHub

    Thank you for posting these videos. The Information you provide has been very helpful. I had always wanted to get into Archery hunting but I always seemed to have a lack of time, money or a place nearby to hunt. This December i started looking into different bows. I was looking for something $500-700. After all the reading i did I decided it was time to shoot some bows. I went Into it thinking I was probably going to get a Hoyt Powermax or a PSE, I Started out with the Bear Threat I knew right away i didn't like it. Tried a PSE Brute Force, it felt ok then I tried a PSE Bowmadness a little above my price range but I wanted to compare. Then the dealer took down a Diamond Deploy SB I think it's just a step up from the Edge SB1 you reviewed, and the Diamond version of Bowtech's Carbon Icon. That bow wasn't even on my radar, but I thought it was a dream to shoot. I also really liked the Powermax, it was a very close 2nd. I think it came down to the RAK package was $50 cheaper than what they were offering for a similar package that came on the Hoyt. So I went with he Diamond. It was working really well for a while but whoever installed the bow accessories did a pretty poor job and soon both my rest and sight came loose from the vibration of being shot for only a few weeks. After i put them back together it didn't seem quite right. It was only after discovering your videos that i was able to determine that my rest was no longer aligned correctly. Now it's back to shooting as good as new! So thank you, I will make sure to mention your videos to all my friends.

    I just bought my first compound bow and your lessons have been very helpful. Checking my bow setup out-of- the-box and found rest and sight way off. Looking for one of your lessons that shows how to determine the vertical location of the peep sight. I think I know the answer but not sure.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to determine your anchor point. Once you do that you simply place the peep where it lines up with your eye for aiming. It will be different for everyone.

    Solid video - especially for someone who just took the plunge and purchased his own press / drawboard Realized my lower draw stop was hitting a good 1/8" before my top - which I fixed, but now getting a slight lower left tear - just like you had. Hopefully I'll solve that this weekend. I cringed a bit on the drawboard section - didn't see a safety cord attached to the bowstring - hook, just in case that d-loop breaks. Thanks Again - Allan

    • @TheAllankuz
      @TheAllankuz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +seansoutdoor Thanks! I'm watching my form, actually what got me into looking to tune my own equipment -- couldn't remove a horrible low tear and bow was not reacting to any minor change in nock or rest position Finding that the draw stops were off was actually a relief and did reduce the tear down from over a + 2" tear to about a 1/4"- 3/8" low tear. Your thoughts on the d-loop are so true - speak from your experience, I punch myself in the nose during practice this spring due to a broken d-loop - hence my "mistrust" in the d-loop. Keep up the good work and Take Care!

    • @TheAllankuz
      @TheAllankuz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I imagine, it’s a good idea to check that d-loop out at the beginning of each season and replace if you see anything suspect! I’ve been shooting more, starting this past February, than last year and probably should have done a quick d-loop check after spring gobbler season! My press / drawboard came with a secondary safety device, but I also tied a basic loop with d-loop material and just loop it around the string & the hook to provide me a sense of added “triple” security.
      My nock point “might” have to be a tad higher than 1/8” (Bowtech Experience @ 64 lbs with a QAD HD rest and Easton Axis 340 arrows / 100 grain VPA 3-blades ~ 424 grains of total arrow weight), I have a 28.5” draw. Don’t really know how level or high the nock point is now, since I don’t have a tool to measure it --- just eyeball.
      I have a dedicated day this weekend to figure this out. I’m thinking of double checking arrow is running through center of berger holes, arrow is centered (using your limb bolt-string idea, I have a busted arrow I can saw off - thanks for the excellent idea), and shoot through paper. I’ll have my press at the range, so may also shoot bare shaft, fletched, and broadhead - just to confirm the paper results.
      I’ve immersed myself into the how the binary cam system / “yokes” work, (but also realize the Internet is full of good and bad info), invested resources into a press, and eager to learn how to tune my current set-up with hopes of successfully changing out strings / cables after this season.
      Thanks Again - great stuff!

    • @TheAllankuz
      @TheAllankuz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Thanks, shooting a axis 340 now, which according to Easton would be good up to 72 lbs, but I agree those binary cams are very radical, I'll keep arrow spine in mind!

    • @TheAllankuz
      @TheAllankuz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +seansoutdoor just got back from range, last night I shot very well through paper with 340, 300, and bare shaft. This morning I shot broadheads and FP's from both arrows, the 300's shot better - ruined a FP due to it hitting the broadhead. The 300 spine arrow tipped with broadhead was supplying much better grouping from 20 - 40 yards! Thanks for the suggestion - would have never thought of it - looks like I'll be shooting the 300's this year!

    I keep comming back to this video, helps me alot. Been playing with my radical lately and have had alot of trouble with my groups. The bow was spose to be in a ready to hunt package but the d loop and peep are off to the side, the d loop was set way to high and to far apart for the nock, was not paper tuned and the cams are untimed by about 1/4". Starting to think maybe i should buy from a different 'pro' shop. Not many good places in australia i can buy from tho. Thanks again mate👍

    14:27 if you're shooting at an angle, make sure that your third axis is correct (3rd axis is how the housing is level to your sight bar/mount) if it is off, what will happen is your sight will be angled, so you have to "False cant" the bow in order to get it level, you then need to move your pins, this causes your shot to continually go off left or right.

  • @johnblakeparker
    @johnblakeparker 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    your supposed to set the nocking point "dead level" on a Bowtech bow with Binary Cams as suggested by Bowtech...because they have perfect nock travel... but single cams & hybrid cams u set the nocking position 1/8th inch high or so... very very good detailed video though. we have the exact same bow Insanity CPXL with the same Limb Driver Pro V rest... I am curious as to what their flagship bow will be when its revealed on January 6th at the ATA Show.

    • @johnblakeparker
      @johnblakeparker 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** thats first of I'd heard of that... mine tunes perfect at dead level at 29.5" draw.... those are really good bows... I suggest that everybody upgrades from the factory string stop though to a Muddy Bloodsport ZVT.... install Octane Balance Dampeners to the riser where its tapped at top and bottom.. and install a 2nd FLX Guard Dampener on the FLX Guard.... all of that makes a big difference in bow noise... and even cut what little vibration it did have to near zero.... you ever chronographed yours with a 350 grain arrow.. and on 70 lbs ???

    Bowtech Insanity CPXL - 2 Questions
    Awesome work by the way, thank you as everyone else has said - I can’t wait to tune this myself after having it to two “Pro Shops” who took a hack at it unsuccessfully.
    Q1: On my insanity the cams are definitely not centered Left/Right in between the split limbs, the cams definitely sit toward the left side of that space. Therefore, should the initial manual alignment of my rest also reflect that slight offset from center, or should it still be right at center (when measuring with the cut arrow method)?
    Q2: You mention the tiller length should match top and bottom. To make that happen on my bow results in the top set of limbs being tightened down a little more than the lower set of limbs (on the draw weight). Is the tiller length still the priority? Meaning is it more important than having equal spacing between the draw weight adjustment bolts gap (between the limbs and the frame)?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would remove all cam lean, center the rest and then add cam lean in the fine tuning process. As for tiller and timing, there are many things that could be contributing such as string or cable length stretched and need to be shortened. When in doubt take them off and measure them to be sure they are at the factory recommended length. Then make sure the limb bolts are tightened all the way down. Check draw stop timing and tiller. If the cable length is accurate, axle to axle length accurate, and you still need to take a little extra turn out of a limb bolt for everything to be dead on, then there is a chance there is a slight variance from the machining of the bow. If you are still able to get good paper tears with one limb backed out a little more than the other then you are fine. However, if one set of limbs are set weaker than the others because you loosened that limb bolt a little extra, then you might have vertical tear issues through paper.

    • @np8893
      @np8893 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean, your reply gave me the ground work to look in a last few places for some fine details of paper tuning. I also bought six .003 arrows that are spined a little lighter and established a 14.6% FOC. I finally have those elusive bullet holes I’ve been searching for for 5 years since I’ve owned the bow. Thanks for everything you do for us out of your passion and drive. God bless you and your fam.
