Hollow form wood turning - woodturning camphor wood

In this video i"ll be wood turning camphor wood into a hollow form. I've had this camphor wood laying around for a while. I just knew it was going to be a hollow form. Since it's hard to come by in my area, i've been saving it for my lathe upgrade. . The laguna handled it well at that and i've been happy with it so far. That 3HP motor is just something.
If you've not had the joy of turning camphor it smells just like Vicks rub, just a little less aggressive and slightly sweeter.
The shape just kinda happened, BUT! the inlay material was a pain to get happy with and then the mortise had a fit. So the aroma was a bit of therapy to soothe the anger lol.
The finish is just sanded to 400 grit with two coats of danish oil applied. The natural color of the wood was just beautiful enough as it was so I didn't want to make it too bright. So a natural finish was good with this one.

@@EppsCreations do u use an hvac vacuum pump to hold a vacuum chuck on the lathe? I owned a small hvac biz in Norfolk, Va for 17 plus years. I’m a better tech and system designer than a business person! Funny thing is i want to get rid of the Sweetland’s…… utube name and keep forgetting to do so until i leave a comment, lol. I love hvac but i love turning more.😄
I feel the same, laying in a crawlspace framing of turning lol. But no, I use my pump for stabilizing. And then I forget it’s not in my van and have to go back and get it lol.

I’ve seen maybe 2 others. But yea if you keep an eye out you can sometimes see units I’m breaking down outside the shop door lol. Gotta get that recycle money!
