THANK YOU!!! Got the seatbelt latch caught in the door and it did the exact same thing you described. I rigged up a piece of plastic and a small piece of wood and some duct tape to get the switch to shut off until I can get a new one. Was at a loss as to how to replace the broken one but your video was a welcome surprise!!!! The switches at Rockauto have gone up -- just the switch is about $18 and the one with the harness/wiring is $55 now. I'm going to see if I can get the broken part out to see if it detaches from the wiring at the door end and maybe won't need the wiring. Thanks again for all the info :-)
I cannot believe I found this within just two results on google! I JUST did this yesterday with that EXACT problem, the seatbelt buckle didn't retract far enough, slammed in the door, and hit right on the clip, I've been doing crazy things with little zip ties to hold it out enough to at least turn off with t he door closed- ugh!!
What tool did you use to get the switch out from the front? I had replaced the switch that didn't include the wiring harness but the wiring harness is bad as well don't want to mess up the new switch taking it back out.

Would this method work for the 2003 Subaru Outback?
Probably, since they are very similar, how ever, I can be sure since I have never worked on that model year.
Thanks
