  • We hear a lot of new about dairy products and the dairy industry. How the cows are suffering, how they are given antibiotics often and how dairy products cause many chronic illness in human beings. Let us at least try to reduce the consumption of dairy products. I am not a vegan but love this peanut curd. Making peanut curd at home is easy and also economical. We can reduce the consumption of dairy products. You can make raita, seasoned curd rice with peanut curd, you will not find much difference. I have given you tips on how to make thick peanut curd every time without fail. If you have any doubts, I am just a comment away.

    There is a comment saying this yogurt is not sour.
    Your peanut yogurt (or for that matter, any plant based yogurt) will not be sour like dairy yogurt because it lacks enough lactic acid. There is no lactic acid because there is no lactose (a type of sugar) in this milk.
    But peanut yogurt can be made sour by just adding a tea spoon of sugar at the time of setting the curd.
    The yogurt should be made with chilli stalk, only for the first time. Second time onwards , old yogurt should be used as starter. The taste improves after third or fourth cycle. The taste of peanut yogurt will almost match dairy yogurt with little sugar and old yogurt as starter.
    I hope this helps.

      You can also squeeze little lemon juice after the curd is set to get that sour taste.

      35-40 degree C . But, if the place where you live is cold, you can set it in a casserole or keep it in a warm place. The trick is to add less water when grinding the peanuts. Once you boil, it will start thickening and usually sets within 6 hours. Use green chillies to set the curd. If you are not a vegan, you can use a tsp of regular dairy curd to set it.

      You can definitely give curds to small children unless they have a proven dairy allergy. Just take are not to serve curds cold and straight off the refrigerator.
      You can thin it slightly with warm water. Get your child habituated to having warm water or room temperature water to quench thirst instead of giving fridge water. It is better if all family members to set an example.

      Possibility -
      1.you might be adding more water when grinding the peanuts.
      2. After the peanut milk boils, you have to reduce the heat n cook on until it thickens a little
      3. Use slit fresh chillies

      How come it tastes bitter. You have to use raw peanuts and not roasted peanuts. I don't think you can use the bitter curd. Get good quality raw peanuts.

      Yes, it will have. That is why when making curd rice or raita, add veggies, seasonings. It will mask the peanut taste to some extent.

      @Padhus-kitchen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am making this often in the same method. It will not taste like dairy curd but it will look similar to curd. Curd rice with peanuts if seasoned will take like our regular curd rice. (add a few drops of lemon juice if you prefer sour taste). Many have done following this method successfully.
