I've been using my Scout for a month now. We got punched with snow in Japan and it was a perfect opportunity to use this. Wood, puck, Trangia and solid fuel worked well. It was worth the wait.
I'm in Japan too. May I ask where do you camp? I go to Okutama sometimes. But always looking for a place that I can start a fire. Many places don't allow it.
Nice item for the price. Very practical and can easily store an alcohol stove as you mentioned. I would prefer it had one side wall with no air holes at all. To block wind on the one side I think would make the stove much more efficient. At one point it seemed as though a lot of flame (heat) was lost through a side wall due to wind. I guess aluminum foil would take care of that. Thanks!
I got mine about a week before Christmas from Kickstarter . I havent used mine yet but I keep mine in my car for emergencies. Love your channel Andy!! Take care and stay safe my friend !!
Happy New Year -- Andy's back!! Nice review, Andy, thank you. I'm going to share this video widely. I did the kickstarter campaign last summer so already got one from that. Great value and I, too, appreciate the utility of storing things inside of it. And the simplicity is useful for those who would bother with, or invest in, the folding versions. Great gift for those who you wish were more prepared.
Just started to watch this channel to hold me over till the other channel releases another video. You are by far my favorite youtuber! Thank you so much for your work
Lived in Kent all my life great county for woods from Rochester to Chatham to Dartford out to cliff great place for camping and fishing and survival always to this date have a prepared BOB .
I forgot I ordered one of these. Or showed up the other day so I had to yet it out. 20 f gusting wind, boiled some water with my Trangia in 8 mins and had some tea.
I have the big pathfinder stainless alcohol burner...works great sitting straight on the bottom of the stove. Haven't tried the billy can on this stove but now I will
“Found the FB 5” at a bargain price “ AKA Steve sent me one 😀 Did the kickstarter for the Scout,I like it, no wasted space as one can cram it full of gear. Using mine with a Trangia gas stove mainly but of course in an emergency or gas runs out I also keep the Trangia alcohol burner with it as well and of course natural fuel could be used.
Hi Andy I do like the design of the stove and your right its more for emergency situation or even car camping. I wouldn't carry it in a backpack of course. Thank you. Take care
Great video. Great review. Thank you for posting 👍🏻. I have purchased the kebab cooker that you reviewed. Not used it yet. But really pleased with the build quality and brilliant design. Can’t wait to get the scout.
Finally a comprehensive report on the Fire Box Scout. It's well thought out and all the different ways to use it , quite versatile. My folding Firebox Nano Gen 2 in titanium is easy to pack , light weight and takes very little space. The ideal item for ultralight backpacking like I do. Scout CON... The down side for myself would be the size when packed in a backpack. Scout PRO....The argument could be made that since it can have all the items packed inside it , the space is well used and not wasted. Now if it was only in Titanium. Even better is the price or should I say the savings it allows.
Thanks chuck. yeah, titanium is great (well except for the price but cant be helped haha) doesnt matter for me on this as itll just be in the truck. now i need to play with my gen 2 and see how it compared with my bushbox
@@kentsurvivalgearreview586 As the old expression goes ... " Can't beat it with a stick ". The modern version added ..." But you can burn them in it " . lol
Nice Firebox and review but I much prefer the original folding Firebox. Gimme' some fat wood, some dry kindling and split branches like a Swedish chimney. I use it when fishing and camping with a small Lodge cast iron pan. The Lodge pan would work great with that setup as well.
Great video. I love firebox i own almost everything they sell and have multiples of everything from stoves to pots pans etc. There location is only about a 1hr from where i live so i am always buying something. I highly recommend firebox stoves they make an amazing product. This video was awesome Happy new year Andy.
It looks pretty well thought out but.... what are the two big 'lids' really for? They don't seem to be for cooking except, perhaps, in an emergency. You don't generally use a stand with other mini stoves. The top lid seems particularly useless since the stove already comes in a bag. Maybe I'm just being fussy, my budget is Lixada and Poundland.
I've been thinking about getting one of these since I first heard of it but yet to convince myself of the value. I'm thinking my Kelly Kettle Scout is far more versatile. Whilst bigger (no so big it can't be slung over a shoulder when needed) it does also give me the ability to carry water and because it's hollow I can probably store more inside. Very suitable for storing in a vehicle. For backpacking it's the folding firebox every time if I'm going somewhere I can light fires.
I believe that I know what you mean: the previous product is a Classic! Even with the possibility of useful storage inside, it is difficult to give up the compact value of the flat-folding model. I would not feel COMPELLED to 'move on.' However, Andy points to the multi-fuel benefits. There are fewer moving parts, particularly in the setup. With the addition of a pot gripper, the top becomes a pan for boiling water or warming soup or stew.
I like the look of this one, even though its not foldable it seems to have other good features. Just when I told myself to stop with the stove buying…..🤣
Can those covers be used as pots? If not too bad they slipped up on an oppertunity there. Would have made the complete stove cook set.Maybe a future addition with handles I hope.
Awww, man. There you go burning the Chestnut wood again. I cringe when you do that. You all in the UK should feel very lucky to have them in abundance. They are a scarce commodity in the States. LOL. Great video. Keep up the good work.
I guess I have a stove problem, I have all, the nano, the 5” and the Scout. The first 2 I’ve had for several years and love them. I haven’t tried this one yet as we were under fire ban until a few days ago and didn’t feel like using the canister insert just to try it.
I've been using my Scout for a month now. We got punched with snow in Japan and it was a perfect opportunity to use this. Wood, puck, Trangia and solid fuel worked well. It was worth the wait.

Happy New Year Andy, hope you had a lovely Christmas and restful break 😊👍.
Great review. Thank you. Now that I know about the “bacon test,” it will be the standard by which all stoves will be measured. 🙂
Nice stove 👍😎
I like the folding one too..
Thanks for sharing..
Nice stove!! Greetings from the woods in Sweden 🇸🇪

Top of the line . Good show
Nice little stove. Happy new year Andy👍🏻
You had me at Bacon test..🤣
Happy new year.

Stay safe.

Happy New year Andy Great you're back with another fantastic review video thanks Andy 👍
Awesome review Sir Andy 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
nice one Andy .... just wish i could find somewhere quiet to do this kinda cooking ...

Great Video enjoyed it much. Cheers...
Nice fire box.
Happy new year andy looking forward for more videos in this year 2022
another great vid andy keep them coming
cheers allan
Good video man!!
Throw in a pot gripper handle and use the lid to cook in?
That’s a good design for an burner!

Nice Christmas then Andy. Nice stove, very pretty. That's how I use trangia burners sometimes. Take care Happy New Year.
Looks good generally. Very neat and tidy. Only downside for me is you cant move the pot stand easily once lit and the feed hole is narrow.
Handy looking bit of kit. Might have to invest 🤔. Becoming a kit junkie 😂 . Thank you take it easy 👍
happy new year dude
Found it just ordered one
Good review

Very nice. I wonder if you can boil water or cook in one of the lids? Using a trangia pot holder of course. Thanks, Andy. 🙂👍
I don’t think the lids are water tight .you may want to test it out .
@@zekesundown2397 i contacted firebox about this and the lids are not food grade so they dont recommend it

Yeah it’s actually a steel plated tin as Steves mentioned in the past. So I should’ve known as much.
@@zekesundown2397 it would be cool if you could
Easy kit, Julie's most impressed (As if we need another stove!)
Happy new year Andy 🍻
Love the first burn of a stove. Happy New Year Andy!
I can smell the streaky bacon frying...☺👍
Most excellent demo. Many thanks! Subscribed 👍
THANK YOU
Looks a nice piece of kit Andy, would probably live in the car full time !! Oh and Happy New Year Pal !
I really wish I'd got the titanium nano x case when the kickstarter was going on for the scout. I came very close but just didn't do it.
This is a great stove!
good video, nice job - that looked delicious ;-)
That's a nice little piece of kit! Happy New Year Andy! Wishing you health and wealth for the coming year! Stay safe, Cheers!
I really like the Firebox Stoves, but here in California they would be restricted for a good part of the year due to fire danger.
It looks pretty well thought out but.... what are the two big 'lids' really for?

One used as a base as in the video and you could use top one as a pan to boil water or cook in
Great review of an interesting product
looks like you could get a good portion of a 24hr mre kit in there.......nice bit of kit
definitly, bags of room :)

I say it’s worth the value personally
Andy, HAPPY 2022!!! You should make your own fuel pucks, it's really not hard. if I can do it any one can...
Cheers Michael, and to you buddy!. yeah, ive done a few types too.. i think one of my first videos was haha
Hello Andy, glad to see you again.
That firebox is again something like the old one and with possible benefits. Maybe, but not for me.
I believe that I know what you mean: the previous product is a Classic! Even with the possibility of useful storage inside, it is difficult to give up the compact value of the flat-folding model. OMG! Those🥓 & 🍳Got me going Crazy 🤪 and Jealous!!!!!!💯
Yes……. Ringo to ya!
You're making me hungry!
For that size, should have made it double walled for secondary combustion. Wind protection is also not so good
Can you use one of the lids as a pot?
i dont see why not, just on top of the pot rest so it doesnt get stuck on the lip.. will need some good gloves or pot handle though
Can those covers be used as pots? If not too bad they slipped up on an oppertunity there. Would have made the complete stove cook set.Maybe a future addition with handles I hope.
You don't need oil when cooking bacon . It will make it's own grease. Nice video though and good product review
Isn't this the first such stove to give instructions for the use of stove pellets?
Nice review video Andy 👍, I have one question. Can you us either the top or bottom cap 🤔. As a cooking unit, boil water or cook food in ?
Good demo Andy. But it did seem a little unstable once the kettle and pan went on top??
thanks, that was the stump not the stove, i didnt position it the best haha
