This time, I made a solo stove, a solo camping stove, using two stainless steel food containers(BMP, Bain Marie Pots). Secondary combustion is possible, so there is almost no smoke, but unfortunately, soot is observed

LEATHER GLOVES. NEVER EVER wear fabric where swarf is produced. Get PRO grease or your cone drill will be gone.

I have two solo stoves, they work great, at the end of the night you don’t smell like smoke at all, the flames at the top are super cool too. Very cool build video.

I made one like that out of a 55 gallon barrel and an old water heater tank. The tank was just the right size to fit inside the barrel and leave a 2" space around the outside of it for the air to pass up the sides. It works perfect, no smoke.

You might want to fit a cone shaped cowling on top to direct the secondary flames into the Center
[so in more control over the flames that emerge at the top]

Very nice! I made one so ilar but smaller with a quart paint can and a Progresso soup can. It is a smaller camp type stove, very small flames exit the top of can but the heat is exceptional! Perfect for boiling water for soup. Thanks for sharing!
Does the metal burning not give off fumes ?.

Love the care and precision in the making of this project.
Just drilling the holes by eye would have worked just fine, and most of them are unseen, but that's not the point, a pride in workmanship is a one way road to better and better standards.

@@mikeshawbrook-selfreliance.... It's a wood burning stove, with a stage 2 wood gas burner feature. It's pretty cool watching the afterburner working. I still like the stick burning simple rocket stove. I also have a pocket folding stick stove, works really well and almost no wood needed. This gas burner is huge and eats wood.

I never heard of bain marie pots before. I made a slightly larger one of these out of two stock pots once just because I didn't know of any pots that would nestle together without modifying them. Good to know about these pots.

That's nice clean looking build. Flame colour is a very good indicator of stove efficiency the bluer the flame the more efficient the stove is. Smoke and soot are indicators of un burned wood gasses and resins. The easiest way to adjust your stove if it is making smoke say when you place a cooking pot over top is to choke down on the primary vent area (the vents on the bottom of the inside burn. Most often when a stove smokes it is because the stove is burning more wood in the primary burn which creates the smoke you see and there just is not enough secondary air to effectively burn off that smoke up top at the secondary burn so the un burned smoke escaped the fire. All you have to do is to reduce the open area of your primary burn holes. You can do this by dropping in a can lid large enough to cove the bottom of your burn pot. dill hole in the lid but drill fewer than the stove had to begin with this will decrease the amount of smoke and when you get the balance right you will have enough secondary air to burn all the smoke generated in the primary burn. A really good air ratio for Primary Air to Secondary Air (P:S) is a ratio in the range of 1:4 - 1:5, with the number one being the primary are vent area and the second number being the secondary air vent area. You need a lot more secondary air to burn up all the woodgas that your primary burn releases from the wood about 4 - 5 times as much air. I hope that this is of interest and that it helps. No need to make any physical changes to the holes in your existing stove just add a lid to the bottom of the pot that has a new set of holes drilled into it. You can experiment with differing ratios to easily find the best match for your stove.

Camping together
This is awesome very innovative compact and portable. Will not rust. Well though out!!!!
You may wish to add the following.
A band around the bottom holes.if you add a strip of sheet metal band like a ring around the bottom holes that moves straight up and straight down, you can then increase or decrease the amount of oxygen coming into the burn. This will lower the flame and prolong your fire.
Also by being able to push the band down and reduce the amount of air intake it will cause a rocket stove effect, making it more efficient.
It appears that right now you may have too many air inlet holes available.this may actually be reducing efficiency and not allowing of the rocket stove effect to be created.
Separately if you want, get some flexible 1/4 inch copper water tube. Make a coil over the stove pore the water into the copper tube and out comes hot water.
To shave or wash.
Woman like a hot shower when camping to stay clean . If it's more like home and enjoyable they like that.
Always nice to have a friend along.
This is so compact and easy to make, I love it.
Maybe some frigerator shelving for a grill top on some all thread and wingnuts so it can an collapse and store easy.

The use of kanthal wire handle is fantastic. It is also what I used to hold the charcoal in and it has lasted 5years.

a nice little fireplace for a tipi or tipitent with less smoke and using wood sparingly! good job.. but its sometimes very hart the parts like you use... also for your stoves, especially the air throttles..

The lack of heat in the secondary combustion air is the biggest flaw in most of these designs. A triple wall design is needed to insulate the secondary air from cooling down.
It seems effective to me. I'm sure the combustion is improved with a third chamber but then you have extra bulk and complication.

Aren't those pretty obvious parts? 2 chromed ice bucket (those you fill with ice and put a bottle to cold on) of slightly different diameter, a 2mm bolt+crane and power tool drill with 3 pretty common drill bits to work with metal. The weird one is used to enlarge holes to a fixed standard set of sizes.
@@hjcalero.1448 Would Stainless Steel (proposed in Original Post) be far superior to "chromed ice bucket" you've counter-proposed? Solo Stove spec's indicate 304 SS, for example. Chrome-plated ice buckets, as you suggest, seem like less suitable material, for this very high temperature application

they are bain marie pots...but im having a hard time figuring out which actual sizes...basically they are warmer pots restaurants would use like of buffets or on the food prep line...if we could figure out quart sizes we would be in business
I’d also like to know exactly which pots he purchased. Went looking and I can’t tell from website measurements which will fit as shown in the video. Looking to make one as the solo stove campfire size is too small but don’t want the Ranger size either.

Вопрос любой печки - вопрос сухих дров. Сухие дрова будут гореть в каждой печке. Испытывать печь надо в разных условиях и при разных дровах. Кстати, обычной нержавейки хватает всего лишь на год-два. Так что в условиях апокалипсиса нет смысла заморачиваться добычей нержавейки. Гораздо проще сделать себе печь из толстого железа. Пусть оно и будет ржаветь, но гораздо дольше нержавеющей печки.
