One detail, you mentioned stainless steel. It is not made of stainless steel. For this lightweight material to handle the heat cycles well we went with mild steel which has been tin plated. A light coat of oil between uses to keep it looking nice 👍
Looks like another Firebox homerun... looking forward to adding to my other Firebox stoves... Like my wife NEVER said, you can never have too many stoves!
Who else thought while Ernie was showing all the options for inside use, were waiting for him to say, "But wait.... ...!!" LOL Great demo/review Ernie, thanks for sharing.
I've made my emrgency stove from a no 303 stew can, turned upside down, or have opened both ends and used steel hanger material to make my cross bars to put pots on to ccook with. I used a church key to put my air holes in the sides, top and bottom. That's it, feed it with twigs broken up., have used sm serno cans as well. Works
Great review! Another of Steve’s well thought out designs. I have a 5” FB stove and a Nano, and during a several day power outage I used my Trangia in the 5” Firebox to boil water, make coffee, and some simple cooking in a pan over the alcohol flame. Worked great, kept us fed. But the Scout offers a storage area for additional items like lighters, matches, etc. which are always needed in an emergency. I like the sturdy top and bottom covers and the way the cross pieces fit.
I am liking the idea of storage as well. Thinking a few tea light candles and a can of sterno. Possibilities are endless. Its always nice to have things ready to go when the need arises, beats running around in the dark looking for stuff
👍 A nice, informative Review .. thanks. It looks like a very well thought out design. Plated Steel as against Stainless? At first, I had reservations .. but after some 'mulling' .. an acceptable Compromise taking into account the Cost and Weight savings. Anyway, some simple post-use Maintenance won't kill anybody. 'Swiss Gel' .. nice to see you using it Ernie. Here in Switzerland, it's equivalent (just branded differently) is my GoTo when rustling up a Breakfast, or testing a new Recipe on my 3rd Floor Flat Balcony (Apartment in USA-Speak 😊). An extremely clean-burning and safe-to-use fuel. Ideal even for 'Urban Brews' .. Trips to the City, using an Esbit Folder /Equivalent. Enough Parks in Basel where one can 'hunker down for a hot Cuppa Soup or similar. One thing though .. the Chinese 'Knock-offs' will be following soon. I sincerely hope that USA-based Community (and elsewhere) will exclusively support Firbox in this Project .. and not eventually migrate to a cheaper copy. 'Support your Own! Take care ..
Not bad for an emergency stove. Plated steel will rust or burn out, eventually, but fwiw, this was designed to be used in emergencies. Rub it down with cheap cooking oil after every use, or when storing it for extended periods of time and it might last a good, long while.
In My humble opinion , the Scout stove is the best stove of the lot ! The main drawback ( if You want to call it that ) is it won't fold flat . So what , it's not designed to .
Great new stove Buying the Firebox SCOUT Emergency Stove real soon. thanks for the review. Been subbed for almost a year now. Thank you Ernie for all you do.
Great overview. Thank you. I don’t need one, but now want one. Fan from over the pond here. Great videos that me and thousands of others appreciate.thank you. 👍🏼
It's made of tin plated steel. That should make it a more affordable option for more folks and for folks who want to put one in every vehicle and home. Thanks for another great video!
When I saw the first vid on this, I couldn't see the benefit over the normal collapsible ones from firebox. In hindsight though if you consider this as also a container, you can store esbit, cannister, lighter, kindling sticks etc in the stove and you have all your kit in one. I still wouldn't take it backpacking so the scout name doesnt work for me. Maybe the Firebox ES or something would have been better?
NIce emergency set up at a nice price. I do think that many of these wood stoves with the ash plate miss an opportunity to use denatured alcohol. In the area where you placed the Esbit tab they should press into the ash plate a depression to hold and oz. or two of liquid alcohol. No need to carry a separate burner and would add neg. weight. People may not have an alcohol burner and in an emergency you burn what you have or can find. Seems like an easy upgrade in versatility. Swiss fire paste same as the M-71 stove fuel??? Where to get? Thanks
Been watching the camping/outdoor videos for about eight years now. This was one of the most comprehensive, well done reviews that I have seen on TH-cam. I most certainly hit the subscribe button and will be back for more. I just recently bought a small titanium wood stove about the same size to hold my new Trangia with the soldered crimp ring. However, it does not have near the flexibility of the new Scout. Good Job!
Another great Tutorial Ernie. I have several types of Stove and i don't need any more. But am now going to buy this one for myself as a Christmas gift. Thanks again Ernie. All the best . Cheers Old-salty.
Super awesome video Ernie, I like how you took the time to show all the fuel options. I will definitely order a couple of them. I don’t think you’ll be able to find a more versatile stove for the price point. I am sure the Chinese knock offs will start rolling out any day now :( I really like firebox stoves. The nano is my preferred pot stand for my trangia and evernew. The design of the scout is simple and easy to use even if you aren’t the backpacker/camper type.
Ernie, just about every other kit video regarding burning hexamine, the first warning for its use is “do not use indoors”… with or without good ventilation. Comments?
Love all of your hard work ernie! Excellent demo of the stove. Firebox is the king of stoves in my opinion. I use a titanium nano for hunting and backpacking trips. I use wood for when I am planning on a robust meal and fuel tabs when I just need some boiling water for my mountain house or coffee!
A very interesting stove. I prefer stoves that flatten like the original two fireboxès. It would be nice if a very innovative stove was created that could be a non-hazardous tent warmer and food cooker that flattened for pack carry and no modification needed for the tent ( four season ) . It could be called the Firebox Four Season Stove. I would definitely purchase something like that easily. It could be made in ttent sizes for two persons, four perrsons, six persons and so on. A collaboration between Firebox and Nemo tents would be fantastic and likely very profitable. I hope Firebox is reading this. Mors Kochanski laid out the principles for a supershelter and if followed by the tentmaker and firebox, the best outdoor product in the world could be created. A solar swamp cooler or air conditioner would be a great optional add-on. The technology is out there, it just requires someone with vision to pull it all together. It must be lightweight and packable .
Everyone should cases of Sterno for Emergencies in case of Power Outages anyways. At least a month supply of cooking using Sterno fuels. The Firebox Scout just makes it easier to use inside or outside in these cases. Excellent Job Firebox.
Can't wait for mine to arrive, ordered and paid for January 2022, had to pre-order it but they state it will not be shipped until April 2022 nice demo and I do like the guitar music.
Great review, such flexibility with the scout. If you have a Trangia gel burner put the Evernew in that and then fit as Trangia. Use this technique for many of my Stoves for example the Clikstand.
Hi, first thank you for the videos, always of interest and enjoyable. Good of you to take the trouble. This box has a top and bottom, but only uses one, the other only is of use when packing it away as a fully enclosed unit. Have I missed something? Take care Many thanks again.
Yep I made an Ikea stove and it works fantastic. I also made a little burner with the snus can (tobacco pouches) and some cardboard cut into strips and shoved in the can. Put some alcohol in there and I got a fucking great little burner.
I'm experimenting for heating only with fire sources (Sterno/alcohol) that can be used safely in an enclosed/ventilated area (vehicle/tent). Stove sets on a small cookie sheet with a small metal plate over the flame to radiate heat. Have achieved some very impressive results for heating a smaller area. Any others out there have any suggestions/comments for using the Firebox Stove for this purpose?
Thanks a lot (sigh). I watch another video of yours and I have to put another item on my " I gotta buy one" list. Really, its cool that you share such great info on all kinds of gear.
Great content and thorough explanations. Thanks for sharing. Question- I’m curious what container you were using for alcohol storage? It looked like it had a handy little spout.
Thanks for the video. Wait....just a sec....Esbit's Material Safety Data Sheet states combustion can create formaldehyde, ammonia, nitrogen oxide and hydrogen cyanide. When burned, the chemical oxidation of the fuel yields noxious fumes, requiring foods being cooked to be contained in a receptacle such as a pot or pan .I know no one that would use Esbit tabs indoors even in an emergency. Food for thought.
nice presentation. maybe when you have multiple stoves from the same manufacturer, as you do with the 5" and 3" versions, you could show side by side views making visualization of the differences in size and format a bit easier. citing dimensions alone isn't quite the same as seeing them together.
Nice but very bulky compared to a firebox nano + Triangia. For the same space as the scout, you could store a nano, triangia, extra fuel, and a lighter. Possibly a wind screen too.
You need to compile all the fire options in a pdf that we can print…..I bought 4 Scouts as gifts and your detailed instructions are a must IMHO….I would pay a couple of bucks to be able to include this with the SCOUT…Steve you listening????
i already own most of the firebox kits..i have ordered the SCOUT PRO set and pizza stone...still waiting.......i just looked on amazon for your blue gel...does not seem to exist
My TI Nano folds up smaller lighter and is very versatile. It ruins me for emergency stoves. Now if you want multiple stoves in various locations this Scout is an affordable option. But the Nano is so small and light I can carry it everywhere.
Very nice comprehensive outline of the Firebox Scout emergency stove 👍 thanks a ton Ernie!
One detail, you mentioned stainless steel. It is not made of stainless steel. For this lightweight material to handle the heat cycles well we went with mild steel which has been tin plated. A light coat of oil between uses to keep it looking nice 👍
Love the well thought out products my titanium nano is my go to every time.
Awesome stove, and fabulous review!
He has the best video out for the firebox scout and he answered all my questions when I watched the video.
👁️♥️🔥📦
Looks like another Firebox homerun... looking forward to adding to my other Firebox stoves...
Like my wife NEVER said, you can never have too many stoves!
Wives 🙄 .. Bless them .. though, they'll never really understand .. 😁.
Who else thought while Ernie was showing all the options for inside use, were waiting for him to say, "But wait.... ...!!" LOL Great demo/review Ernie, thanks for sharing.
My electricity was off for two days last year. This Firefox, Trangia, and a moka pot made the best coffee!
The Trangia iso butane stove works with ALL Firebox stoves. I have used mine in the 5" and the Nano as well. Good vid!
Kool people 0ppp popk
I love my Scout...honestly I love every single product I've ever bought from Firebox Stove, great company, great folks, great content.
Best is the freedom in the backround. 2A
A most excellent video run down on a great piece of kit, doc, as always.
Even your choice of music is spot on.
Thanks!
Received mine today, and it is an amazing deal - so many extras!!! Thank you for all the info!!!
Don't get much better of a review than this, great job.👍

Aaron Do You Or Anyone Have A Height Above Flame That’s Best For The Cook Pot??
👍 A nice, informative Review .. thanks.

The video we all wanted regarding the new Kickstarter! Thank you for this!!

Is the nano plated steel because mine is looking pretty beat.
Great review as always. You teach us so much and someday may be saving some of our lives should the SHTF.
Commenting to appease the algorithms.
Very nice stove... 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent review... 👍🏻👍🏻
In My humble opinion , the
Scout stove is the best stove of the lot ! The main

I totally agree. The scout is my favorite also. I thought I was alone on that opinion.
Best stove video to date on the web. Thanks for sharing.
It's made of tin plated steel. That should make it a more affordable option for more folks and for folks who want to put one in every vehicle and home. Thanks for another great video!
Just a thought, you could set your 750 pot on the round cross bars with a small flame source underneath. 👍
I like that idea. Thanks

I like the idea that you can keep your preferred fuel option/burner type in the stove when packed up and in the bag.

I really like firebox stoves. The nano is my preferred pot stand for my trangia and evernew. The design of the scout is simple and easy to use even if you aren’t the backpacker/camper type.
Great showcase of the product. Every time Steve comes out with one, I am just in AWE of the engineering behind it. One day!
I really liked the presentation. I had an idea about using smaller cook ware with certain fuels you can also position the fire sticks to hold the pot
Ernie, just about every other kit video regarding burning hexamine, the first warning for its use is “do not use indoors”… with or without good ventilation. Comments?

Wow !! I love this and can't wait to order mine ! Great comprehensive video Dr Ernie !!! Take care and stay safe my friend !!
Great video Ernie. I am very much looking forward to the Scout kits I got on the Kickstarter.

Thinking about getting a couple to keep in the my families cars in case of a winter breakdown on the side of the road.
Just ordered one!!!! Can’t wait to get it!
always informative and entertaining! - thanks Ernie for sharing with us outdoor geek heads! Picking one up on black friday!
Amazing stove expert. So passionate!
Everyone should cases of Sterno for Emergencies in case of Power Outages anyways. At least a month supply of cooking using Sterno fuels.

Excellent Job Firebox.
Dang I need to get me one of these
Can't wait for mine to arrive, ordered and paid for January 2022, had to pre-order it but they state it will not be shipped until April 2022 nice demo and I do like the guitar music.
I like the versatility of fuels. I liked seeing the use of charcoal, a I have thought of trying some Matchlight in an Esbit folding stove.
Great review, such flexibility with the scout.
If you have a Trangia gel burner put the Evernew in that and then fit as Trangia. Use this technique for many of my Stoves for example the Clikstand.

Many thanks again.
Greetings from Norway. You getting better and better!
Yep I made an Ikea stove and it works fantastic. I also made a little burner with the snus can (tobacco pouches) and some cardboard cut into strips and shoved in the can. Put some alcohol in there and I got a fucking great little burner.
Got it and I already dig it! Only wish it was a millimeter bigger to store a iso butane canister in it!
You can use Sterno, 91% isopropyl alcohol, or denatured alcohol to light the pellets.
I received mine today I'm in Australia great video so helpful 🙂👍🔥
Use fuel plate above flame on rods to fit small pots.
This be a great stove for car camping
I'm experimenting for heating only with fire sources (Sterno/alcohol) that can be used safely in an enclosed/ventilated area (vehicle/tent). I missed that $75 5” Titanium kickstarter deal by what I feel must have been mere seconds. You lucky dog!
Firebox makes great products .
I got in early on the Kickstarter, can't wait to get it 🤠
Really great to see the stove in action and the amount of fuel options is great ,great review too just found your videos will be watching more 👍🤟🇨🇦
Great content and thorough explanations. Thanks for sharing.
Question- I’m curious what container you were using for alcohol storage? It looked like it had a handy little spout.
That was a Trangia fuel bottle.
Waiting for mine to come in from Kickstarter now!! Think it will work good on bikepacking overnighters.
Really great review. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. Wait....just a sec....Esbit's Material Safety Data Sheet states combustion can create formaldehyde, ammonia, nitrogen oxide and hydrogen cyanide. Very well done Doc Ernie!!
Great review. Thanks!
to use a smaller pot, drill holes in top of stove that are narrow and use two tent pegs inside
Thank you for such an informative and well done video! 😄
Pre-ordered. 👍 Fantastic Review.
nice presentation. maybe when you have multiple stoves from the same manufacturer, as you do with the 5" and 3" versions, you could show side by side views making visualization of the differences in size and format a bit easier. citing dimensions alone isn't quite the same as seeing them together.
Waiting for mine!!
Steve is always putting videos up on facelick too!
Good job………Ringo to ya!
Impressive, thanks for unpacking
Is there anything that this stove will do that the folding 5 will not do?
Bushcraft Essentials LF Titanium will do all of this what's more it's lighter and folds down smaller
Nice but very bulky compared to a firebox nano + Triangia.
For the same space as the scout, you could store a nano, triangia, extra fuel, and a lighter. Possibly a wind screen too.
Very informative thank you...even though I'm still on the fence with this unit lol
Great video Ernie!
Use the micro grill / trivet for small cups.
Great review..
I can't seem to find this model for sale ANYWHERE
It's just a ikea cutlery drainer with tent pegs and a shoe Polish tin for your gel
Excellent review
You need to compile all the fire options in a pdf that we can print…..I bought 4 Scouts as gifts and your detailed instructions are a must IMHO….I would pay a couple of bucks to be able to include this with the SCOUT…Steve you listening????
Yep, I read you loud and clear. We are working on the instructions and will have them ready to ship with the Firebox Scout Stoves👍
FYI I'm a sucker too, What is that metal wall system you, video would be nice...
You need good ventilation with hexamine fuel, the British army used to use it,
You can burn dragon fuel in the plastic holder
Cool! I’m going to order me one
great vid !!!
What about Kerosene or ultra low sulfur diesel fuel?
What was the blue liquid you put on the coal?
with all the various items what does it cost ?
Hi have you evaluated the Kelly kettle stove?
Firebox Scout vs Emberlit Fireant?
i already own most of the firebox kits..i have ordered the SCOUT PRO set and pizza stone...still waiting.......i just looked on amazon for your blue gel...does not seem to exist
👁️♥️🔥📦 Gotta have em all!
Earnie - Why would you use this instead of the original Firebox? Can’t it do everything the Scout does but is foldable?
My TI Nano folds up smaller lighter and is very versatile. It ruins me for emergency stoves. Now if you want multiple stoves in various locations this Scout is an affordable option. But the Nano is so small and light I can carry it everywhere.
What kind of lighter is that your using?
Great review cool bit of kit,,seen Steve use the zebra can on it,,,, he should seriously give you some commission 🙈🙈🙈🙈😂😂😂
Great review. When placing stove in the Billy pot could you turn the small pan upside down so it nests over the stove?
Yes. Scout goes in the pot, then the lid and then the pan - upside down. In this configuration, the clips make the handle snap into place more firmly.
@@kentdayton4270 thanks
Muito bom Parabéns nota 100
Nice!
