No too expensive for these subscription apps. Tired of all these subscriptions. Some of us just want to pay a onetime fee and don’t need all new features.
Sucks that Apple “pushes” in-app or subscription.
it's actually cheaper for subscription. I had a project for 2 weeks and I subscribed to Canva and immediately unsubscribed in settings but it will expire in 1 month but wont renew. Most pro mac apps are 300usd etc and subscription apps in ipad are like 20 and many people can start using if they dont have 300usd and that's just 1 app
With iOS App Store they can force you to update to the subscription-only version.

I think Andrew has a great point at 5:15 about small businesses just wanting to try to create some content and using their phones. Not only are they cameras people likely already have on hand, but the system is going to be extremely intuitive. Most small businesses who could afford a few canons aren’t going to have someone who knows what lenses to get, capture cards for each camera, a dedicated computer with OBS, an Atem to switch between camera angles, etc. I can see a ton of small businesses or non-tech savvy creators using this

Im a podcast producer for a network and we actually shoot multi cam podcasts on 3 iPhones haha so the Final Cut live feature is great for us 😊. I edit live while feeding the guests questions and it’s a great workflow (but I know I’m in the major major minority here)

Procreate, Callipeg are my main go to apps on the iPad, and the new power should help, but I think the RAM is the bottle neck on most raster 2d animation apps.
I’ll be sticking to nomad, but I think full Zbrush coming to iPad is another good reason to upgrade.
You can’t copyright drum parts or bass lines.. you can copyright the mechanical recordings, so if you just rip a bass line from a track and put it in yours, that’s copyrightable but if you re-recorded the part, no matter how accurate it is the the original, it’s uncopyrightable.
This is because the copyright is on not the composition, not the notes on a page, but it is on the actual original physical recording
Actually the composition and the written music are both copyrightable works, it's just that there's automatic licensing built in to music copyright that confers cover rights under most* circumstances
*I'm not a lawyer, I wouldn't want to give specific legal advice over when covers are legal specifically, I'm just aware they do exist and they're the reason that copyright doesn't block covers.

I think covers are fine as long as you get permission from a label which isn’t too difficult.
Or if you’re a small artist, you do it without permission and just hope no one notices

That’s the reason not to upgrade my M1 iPad. It can still run all the apps and the OS is still the same. The new screen, design, and accessories aren’t worth the $2000 upgrade. At that point, just get a MacBook
Yep. I'm still chillin' with my M1 IPad pro and M1 MacBook Air. Don't plan on upgrading any time soon.

most who upgrade already have macbook though. And most will sell their ipads and magic keyboard and pencil to get the new ones so it's not that expensive
I agree that the M4 isn't really valuable in an iPad in most cases (it *might* be useful for video editing, I have no experience myself with video editing on a tablet), but a MacBook isn't really a substitute for an iPad, Apple specifically refuses to produce such a step up product. For buying a MacBook to make sense as a direct step up it would need a touchscreen and some flavour of 2 in 1 design.

I do think you guys overanalyze the whole Final Cut and Logic Pro discussion about the name. I have a lot of mixed opinions on everything you said. As a video editor who has been editing for about 20 years, I do think some of the upgrades in Final Cut are worth it! I don't think the Final Cut Camera is completely useless. I think it can be really helpful for film students or kids who don't have enough money to get a camera yet, and they can all use their iPhones. But in a professional setting, yeah, I agree not many people are going to use that professionally. You need to remember most of Apple's apps are more for beginners, helping people get started learning the software. Later on, they transition to more professional equipment, cameras, software, etc.
Never really picked up a tablet but I'm getting close to considering an iPad now. The Pencil Pro and M4 are the things making me actually consider it now.
i just upgraded from a 12.9 inch 2020 iPad Pro and it was worth the upgrade. I mainly use it for content consumption, reading, and responding to comments on youtube/reddit/X. The display is amazing and plenty bright, not to mention how thin it is.

I just don't see "get everyone to do all video production on iphone" to be realistic. But "let people use the gear they have to edit video on the go" seems much more promising.
I'd assume that the extra money they'd make from charging a subscription for the ipad app would be worth more than the number of extra iphones they sell just because one app has this one iphone exclusive feature.
I guess this is the connectivity thing? Other makers will not be increasing their device price twofold just for Apple tax so it has that dodad to connect to an iPad.

I have used 3-4 iPhones to shoot video and potentially make live streams (I kept all my iPhones because I saw this with OB and other programs).

Transformers *are* machine learning though, and there's lots of really basic, small transformers around. LLMs are just the most recent, most hyped category of transformer, but there's also all of the non-large language models that preceded them and all sorts of prior transformer based systems all the way back to early machine translators. Mathematically, these are all just stacks of matrix multiplications that embed into a latent space as well, so some layers could just be thought of as really complex look up tables with extra steps.
IMHO the use of the term "AI" to refer to machine learning is fine, it's a more broadly understood term and machine learning *is* a form of artificial thought/artificial intelligence, the problem is the marketing hype that's recently been attached to it and Silicon Valley's deliberate attempts to make people think of Artificial General Intelligence when they roll out a new product with an unnecessary and very basic application specific AI function
The simple fact that Safari on ipad opens mobile web siter rather than the desktop version shows that ipads with M2 and M4 still are overpowerd iphones. I have realized that IpadOS and macOS are far to diffrent to be simply combined. And I think at this point that the iPad Pro models should run MACOS with an ipad overlay for those not using magic keyboards.

I wonder if you could use the new Atomos ninja phone and then use the live cut in Final Cut to use a professional camera. The ninja phone can only do 1080p, though.

@@verboseessays To be fair, we've hit a wall. There is legitimate reason for it. The issue is trying to deceive their customer base into thinking they are actually releasing something "new" that's priced fairly - which simply isn't the case. But at the same time, Apple customers (including myself) are notorious for gulping down whatever they shove down our throats... so I can't really fault them for doing what works.

iPads are quite interesting, they are very desirable, they sell you on the lifestyle and all of that.
But in reality I only use up my iPad to read manga and documents, so even then I don't need the OLED iPads and everything that I want (That's why I've only got the regular 9th gen iPad (I do like the new 10th gen design though))

final cut for iPad is a great app in general
Davinci resolve is quite complicated and in my experience is slow (i have ipad pro 12.9 m2)
lumafusion is great but i prefer final cut UI
and the 5 usd monthly isn't bad, shitty app that only do ONE job charge 10 usd

ipad software has been one of those "only apple can do" thing where they keep handicapping the product itself by superior hardware and SEVERLY LIMITED software. Till they fix the software the product is always going to end up in this sad state.

Final Cut for iPad is crap. It’s rough cut pro at best. Every tech channel covered it once and then went silent
Blame apple to put M series chips on iPad. They should have stuck with A series chips and you all guys would be quiet. I still remember how Steve jobs introduced iPad as a category between iPhones and mac and being better in doing few things better than both. I think Apple still sticks to that though the hardware has advanced ten folds. I don’t think they should even think on putting Mac OS on ipad and spoil the touch first beauty of ipad. MacOS will look trash on ipad in its current form as a PC designed OS. See how horrible is touch on windows laptops and how that went. What Apple should do is release apps that performs better than on iPhones and Mac which will make the original argument by Steve and authenticity of ipad relevant again. They have started doing this with their pro apps but we need more.

This episode made me want to stop watching your podcast. You guys argue like old men over your beloved type writer getting outshined by a computer. And you just “don’t get it”. Let devices shine when they upgrade them. Stop living in the past in the land of what you know and what makes you comfortable. As tech reviewers you need to embrace change and adapt.
Other than you tubers no one use these app day to day... apple know youtubers will speak on it but 99 percent of the people who buy ipad don't care
They should really stop trying to upsell ipads as laptop replacements, it's too clunky and limited to use like one . Running Macos on it will either make Macs more frustrating to use or ipads too crammed. Base Ipad probably won't even run it.
People should limit their expectations and just use it like a tablet.Let Apple add a proper file management system before selling this as a "pro" device instead of unnecessary cpu upgrades🤡.

I don't understand how you all are so obsessed with the idea of having MacOS on iPads. You will be asking MacOS on a damn phone to one day. If you want MacOS on iPad, then just get a MacBook Air its thin and light weight, iPad isn't for you. That idea is just dumb.
It’s not dumb at all. The newest IPad Pro just debuted their M4 chip which means it’s more than powerful enough to run MacOS. Why is it dumb to want to be able to use a superior operating system on a device more than powerful enough to run said OS?

@@AidanSilnesI tend to agree with not porting MacOS on the iPad Pro. Just because the M4 iPad Pro can run MacOS doesn’t mean it should. Having said that, I realize that iPadOS is a relative lightweight system that doesn’t need the power of the M4. I think what Apple is trying to do is “encourage” developers to create Mac-like apps for this new chip, and it seems that Final Cut Pro and other similar apps understand that.
I think if more developers would take advantage of the power of the iPad Pro and create Mac-like apps that can take advantage of the benefits of iPadOS without the overly technical aspects of MacOS that MOST people wouldn’t ever use. As a composer, I have used Sibelius (when I had a MacBook) and currently using Dorico for my M2 iPad Pro and many times, I wish I could have the ability to add certain sound libraries to it which are not available for iPadOS. If developers could somehow add that to those apps, it would be perfect. But after emailing Sibelius and NotePerformer about maybe adding that to iPadOS, they said they have no interest in porting those sound libraries but *maybe* it would be considered.
OK, I’m not AGAINST adding MacOS to the iPad but it’s not needed, especially when developers can create robust versions of their apps for the iPad.
