You don’t need to buy it. There’s clearly a difference regarding FPS. A an expert saw it in person and said it’s an improvement. Gaming is a luxury hobby and this is a luxury item. You’re getting entry level PC (maybe better) for £700. It’s not overpriced but it is expensive.
This biggest improvement has to be FF7 Rebirth. Game goes from looking like 720p visually in performance mode to being slightly sharper than the native 4K mode at 60fps. The pro seems great for non first party developers who are not as skilled in image quality like insomniac and blueprint who use temperal injection to give a sharp image.
There's a slight difference, but a difference you'll get used to in seconds. They really shouldn't offer incremental upgrades to systems unless the price level is maintained. It's like the iphone upgrades. No one cares anymore, because the differences between each version are not eyepopping. I'm guessing this is just a move to try and get people used to paying for systems at a higher price. After the existing ps5 stock is depleted, perhaps ps5 pro and all future versions will be at this higher price level.
The PS5 pro is going to be very powerful, will future proof the PS5 until they release new console. Alot of new technology not seen in consoles before is in this system and I'm pretty happy about that. Put it this way, a console system lasts around 7-8 years and technology keeps advancing at a very high rate so a mid gen refresh should be something that happens every console generation. Can't wait till it comes in.
If you look at the price it all makes sense Digital slim PS5 = 450 + 100 (1TB SSD) = 550 Now you’re debating if the upgrade is worth $150 ….. yes the stand is BS but Sony knows they’re the only game in town and pull this kind of shut (pun intended) but would I upgrade if I already have a PS5? NOPE! Will I buy it since I’m still on an OG PS4? Yep It’s pretty simple but now I have to buy 4k tv, 120 hz monitor …. okay maybe I’ll stick with my ps4 😂
Every video on this console has stated the same thing, and it seems to be the thing 99% of people are choosing to ignore. It is for a certain group of people who want this premium offering. It's not the next console, you don't have to upgrade. Its optional for the enthusiasts that want the power and can utilize it. There are people who want to know that they are getting the best performance/resolution, even if it isn't noticeable. If you personally don't see the improvements as worth it, then congrats! It's not for you. You can still play your PS5 and nothing changes.
Ive personally got a 8k panel which cost a fortune. This is a luxurious product, im looking forward to it. Its not going to be for everyone if you dont want it stick with the base ps5 which will still play games fine for the rest of the generation. Just enjoy your games and have fun!
Is there a difference between the gaming experience of the PS5 and the PS5 pro? Yes. Is there enough of a difference to justify the higher price? From the reception that the PS5 pro has gotten from the general gaming public it woild seem that for most people the answer to that question is "hell no".
We are now at a stage where the developers have to make 5 versions of a single game for each release with Crossplay and Crosssave. Now that we are at 6 versions per game, all companies are forced to have to have seven dev kits shoved up their asses and that’s if they get to skip the Switch and PC Port. The Gaming Business is tough folks.
No one caaaaaaares! This sort of pixel peeping analysis is what ruins gaming! Back in the day, we didn’t talk about this, we focussed on the gameplay. Why do Nintendo games play so well? Consoles have allowed themselves to get sucked into the PC argument. Options for quality vs quantity, it’s all so ridiculous. A good game doesn’t need every pixel to be perfect. Like photography, stop pixel peeping and stand back and enjoy the photo.
What these online reviewers don't seem to understand is that it's not just the minor incremental improvements in graphics and Fidelity, but mainly the price. The price does not justify these minor negligible graphical improvements. And let's not even get into the lack of any kind of bargain in terms of peripherals for the device. No stand, no disk drive, and last but not least, no new games. Gamers don't care about minor graphical improvements when the package is impractical.
The literal point of the pro is not necessarily to deliver better visuals. It's to maintain (and in some cases slightly surpass) the visual quality of fidelity modes but offer that at 60fps. That's a big deal in the console space, how do you overlook that and just jump to complaining about price when an equivalent pc build costs way more??
@@DizzyNinja21 An equivalent PC really doesn't cost way more, but it can do a whole lot more and that's why consoles in general, but especially an unnecessary upgrade like this aren't worth it in the slightest.
The F1 2024 examples are some of the most extreme with the ray tracing differences, only the "realistic lighting" works against you actually being able to SEE what is going on.
It’s fine if you’re a casual gamer and don’t understand what the pro is doing. But some people do understand and also understand your not gonna pick up on the differences from your phone or tv. Not unless you’re playing the game yourself and you have a screen or tv capable.
There's barely a difference and in some cases looks better on the og ps5, but i'll give it the benefit of the doubt because it wasn't exactly the same frames for comparison and the video compression. I'll just wait to see it in person and see if it's a worthy upgrade.
All graphics are very similar when on the ps5, compared to the ps5 pro, but the pro can run these games on 60 fps compared to the base and slims 30. So if you really care graphics but don’t want to play 30 fps (I don’t care about that) get a ps5 pro, if not don’t
After having a Pro for a week now (got the PS5 at at launch too), just retried God of War: Ragnarok and it's fucking amazing in 60 fps at 4k (played it at launch as well). I've redownloaded and tried a few other games as well to try on the new console (Horizon, Callisto Protocol, RDR2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Star Wars: Outlaws) and they do run more smoothly, but no additional Pro graphics/performance options (probably going to be patched later?). Right now though, there aren't enough patches out to merit the pricetag of the console though for just a few games that actually have the updates, (I've seen the "official" list, but not all games have actually been updated/patched yet) but patches will come. I did notice increased performance though in most games I've tried. This consoles is just a week old though and I can't wait to see how well it performs in a year and so and on compared to the base PS5. Overall, I'm content with my purchase and can't wait to see how many more games in the future function/play better in the future on the PS5 Pro (just like the PS4-PS4 Pro did) towards the end of the console lifecycle. The (base) PS5 handles absolutely fine and will be fine up until the next console iteration though if you don't want to upgrade though
@@leeeverett4067 True if we are talking resolution only but the bigger difference to me is the contrast which is a lot more noticeable than resolution from a distance. The frame rates are also noticeably smoother. It’s definitely an upgrade. It’s just overpriced by about $200. 🤷🏻♂️
@@Electrifize still the same result because even big monitors are still way smaller compared to average sized TVs and because of that the pixel density is so high that were talking about an optimal viewing distance of literally a handful centimeters/inches
If your prepared to spend that much on a PS5 Pro, you may as well think about investing in a PC. As stated in the video, PS5 is for more of the gaming enthusiast. If your an enthusiast, buy a PC. PS5 Pro is a clear cash grab.
Sony is going to have a tough time selling the benefits of PS6. PS5 Pro improvements are imperceptible to the average person. PS6 is going to struggle even more so. They’re going to have to come up with a switch like gimmick to get people excited about PS6.
all the games look good, but they're all old games and lots of people have probably completed them already so why would we play it again and pay for the privilege ?
If you have to look at the games side by side, then it’s not an upgrade. Look at ps5 pro gameplay and truly say “Wow, It looks so much better than ps5”
yeah I just dont see the value here. It's got some clear upsides but the price and my experience with ps4 pro shows me that this isn't a need its a luxury. Buy a ps5. Also WOW @ having to buy the disc drive. You cant argue the greed isn't getting in the way.
Pretty original take there. Definitely not influenced by the herd and very well researched with respect to component prices and equivalent PC prices. Also, 20/20 eyesight for sure.
@@Baggz81 yeah is not. Because it's pointless to waste money on a product like the pro. Is not bringing anything better to the table compared to the regular PS5. Why would I need it wen I already have a ps5 and it's doing the same job and I have no problems with it? I guess Sony are truly desperate to make up their $400 million loss from concord.
@@superrunnerx1 The majority of games are displayed at 4K/1440p (or slightly under) and at 60Fps wich every TV will support. There is nothing that the PS Pro can do wich the Standard PS5 can't in theory. Both can play games at 4K, some games 120FPS and pretty much all games with HDR10. Obviously the will be some games that are displayed at something like 1440p/60fps while the pro plays the same game at 4K/60fps But that doesn't mean that it's automatically worth it for enthusiasts. You have to sit very close to your TV if you really want to see the difference between 1440p and 4K because the high pixel density, no matter how big the display is.
Why they didnt show games that really need a new Playstation?? as Alan Wake, Wukong, Lords of the Fallen, Elden Ring....and many others!! All the games shown run already well on PS5. So the PS5 Pro is made for games released 2 or 3 years ago 😂😂
No first party game will support either. This console is not 2 times more powerful than the ps5. F1 can do it because their game has ran on the same engine since like 2015
Returnal and astro on ps5 , thanks to the dual sense features, 3d audio, when combined, is more impressive than anything ps5 pro has to offer. It's a shame that we already have a console that can do amazing things, but sony isn't doing much with it.
This is well trodden at this point, however even if you remain objective with regards the price just due to inflation, you make your peace with requiring an external drive it remains the case that it takes so long to develop triple A games now that you’re left playing old games you’ve no doubt completed with slightly sharper images at a higher frame rate. PS6 will be landing in a few years, just doesn’t seem to make sound investment. GTA 6 is bound to get delayed until 2026, Elder Scrolls, Naughty Dog new IP? Rocksteady??? years away probably and you can guarantee they will do PS6 remastered.
GTA6 is most definitely not gonna get delayed to 2026. it will be out by september 2025. they are damn near done with development. at this point they are just working out bugs and adding final touches.
I just want to get this out of my chest. The ps5 pro is not worth more than $600, and the fact that they’re selling the console for such huge markup without the disc drive and the stand is criminal, but I understand why they’re doing this, and I’ll explain that at the end. First off, the ps5 pro only upgrades the gpu which does allow for more fidelity heavy games running at stable frame rate, but it has the same cpu so the overall performance is going to be similar to the base ps5. Secondly, the technology they’re using to keep a stable frame rate is pssr which is similar to fsr, where the ai downsamples the overall video quality to make up for each of the pixels and upscales it to 4k, which results in clear images and stable frame rate, but this is the first time they’re using this technology, so we don’t know how the pssr will even perform, and could result in games looking more blurry, so you’re not playing games at native 4k, so the fact that they lied about that is hilarious. Thirdly, the reason the price is so high is because of 2 reasons and they are to cover up for the huge losses concord caused, and the yen currency value decreasing, so they’re targeting a certain Sony audience that they know are foolish enough to get it, and based on some of these comments it looks like it’s working. At the end of the day, it’s your money but if you do end up getting it, then you forfeit the right to complain when Sony releases pa6 for $900 without disc, as simple as that.
Lastly, it seems to me that many people like you do not consider inflation at all. If you put that into the calculation you easily understand many pricing matters in general. The ps4 would cost 550 in today's dollars fyi

It's not the next console, you don't have to upgrade. Its optional for the enthusiasts that want the power and can utilize it. Is there a difference between the gaming experience of the PS5 and the PS5 pro? Yes. Is there enough of a difference to justify the higher price?
From the reception that the PS5 pro has gotten from the general gaming public it woild seem that for most people the answer to that question is "hell no".
So basically if you have a ps5 already don’t bother and if you want solid 60fps or more with amazing visuals get a pc right got it
We are now at a stage where the developers have to make 5 versions of a single game for each release with Crossplay and Crosssave.
At the beginning of the video, I thought the PS5 Pro wasn't worth it. By the end of the video, it seemed just like at the start.
It's not for casuals or people who are fine with blurry upscaling.
ollie mack is superb at the details. he takes it down to the granular, and what folk who are gonna buy the ps5 pro want to see.
Theyre reviewing the tech, not the pricing. Theyre telling you if its good or not. YOU decide if its worth it.
@@DizzyNinja21
An equivalent PC really doesn't cost way more, but it can do a whole lot more and that's why consoles in general, but especially an unnecessary upgrade like this aren't worth it in the slightest.
Which equivalent pc?
The price comes directly from the rise of chip prizes over the last years. AMD will simply demand more money from Sony
The F1 2024 examples are some of the most extreme with the ray tracing differences, only the "realistic lighting" works against you actually being able to SEE what is going on.

So Fidelity mode still looks better on base Ps5 for some games compared to Ps5 Pro

Is it just me or does ps5 pro just look like sharpness and contrast are cranked up?

I’m most curious about UE5 games because those have really been struggling this generation.
