Today I am very much feeling the scatter brained, trying to get too many things done at once mindset. Slowing down and focusing on one thing at a time is definitely a simpler approach!
I grew up in the 90s when multitasking began to be considered a superpower, so I struggle with that SO bad. I literally have to talk myself through it, like "No, my focus right now is ____, I can do ____ when this is done." I totally feel scattered and fewer tasks get completed when I'm multitasking.
Thanks,Jess! I look forward to your content, so practical for a more peaceful life! 😊❤ Multitasking has been something I have worked on not doing. I have reduced feeling anxious & been more productive byfinishing one task at a time. Whew, we are currently surrounded by packed moving boxes & empty closets & cabinets post packers today. There is a calm factor to that. 😊❤
I have a video on eating for fertility that’s basically applied for all women actually! But I want to make more, I just didn’t realize there’s an interest in it!
Jessica, Jess, if I may. Great video(s). I recently discovered you. This particular video hit home. I had deleted all social media apps from my phone except one. I found that app to be a "time suck" and removed it today. It takes a bit more effort to access on my laptop, but thank goodness it does. Other apps on my phone are accessible on my laptop. I just view them there. That, in and of itself, has saved me time. Thanks for publishing these videos. Have an awesome 2025!
This was sooo helpful for me! Ok so many thoughts, I took notes during this video 😂 1. Top priorities of the day - game changer. Can’t wait to implement this. So good for my ADHD brain 2. Meal planning - already do this but I don’t prep extra and I don’t assign meals to days. Also Google doc meal idea - DUHH so smart! 3. Time blocking - how do you logistically do this? Do you block time in your planner or mind like “ok 2-2:30 ill do laundry, 2:30-3 play with daughter” etc. would love to know bc im very much trying to implement slow living but it does come off as a little unstructured and I thrive in structure 😅 4. Sabbath is life changing! Started in 2019 and can never go without TYSM for the thought and time and work you put into sharing these things with us!!! 🫶🏻
I definitely don't block my whole day! But we def have a rhythm! I mostly find that my daughter does well post lunch in that space of time to do independent play so that's why I have made a rhythm at that time for me to spend about an hour of work time and it's also easier for her to expect. We don't have strict times but with a toddler having a rhythm (like she knows we wake up and immediately go outside for a few minutes to get morning light, then she helps me make breakfast and usually we read a little after that etc.) so she knows what she can expect too. We dont do the same exact things every day but for the most part there are aspects that tend to be very consistent and she does better with that! so more so i specifically time block things that require me to get things done that I need to so that she can expect that I'm not as available, and I make them only 1x or 2x a day because I can't expect her to do more than that, if that makes sense? And I make sure before that time I give her lots of connection and play time
I have learned how important it is to prioritize taking a Sabbath rest, and now I make sure to include a day of pure rest in my week, protecting and guarding it with diligence, lol. I am growing a ministry and a business, so this can be challenging, but I also want to take a week off during each month to do the same. We will see how that goes, lol. This past summer I really burnt myself out saying yes to so many people and organizations, and this fall I slowly began to dial back the commitments - I had no idea how much I needed to do that. I could sense the Lord telling me yes, rest and refresh.
I love the idea that if I am rushing there might be too much on my plate. I like that an experience "rushing" can prompt a reflection to limit how much I am taking on. I have been pushing back against the idea of being busy. Even though I no longer feel particularly busy. I still feel like I am rushing around.
I never believed in the myth of multitasking. The too many time blocks reduces the quality of effectiveness. I’ve removed all social media from my phone. If you wish to have quality communication silence your phone. This goes even at the checkout line. Your attention should be on the transaction and the person serving you. Society is falling apart because we are not present for the people we are interacting with face to face.
I had once been trying to contact my boss for a week as i really needed, to speak to him, I was at the checkout and he called, I asked the lovely Lady on the checkout if she m8nded if I take the call, she looked at me bemused, I told my boss I would ring him back and apologised and explained to the lovely lady, why I needed to take the call as I thought it polite and felt quite rude. You are totally correct and the cashier then went on to tell me some encounters she had, and I thought I was rude😊
I donated my nice things I didn't need or fit today before Xmas incase they stop taking things soon like they usually do! Son donated a couple of his things too to make room for more! Haha and a lady was donating heaps of books and said if I have a child I should go through one of the boxes so I quickly did and got some awesome books for free!
Love your channel!! Thank you for being you and teaching us slowness Jess❤️✨ love listening to you while I’m doing things around the house and even working ! It keeps my heart in a place of peace and inspires me to continue purging things out of my life and clarifying my path 🥰✨❤️thank you for being one of my favs 🌹
Jessica, can I ask you how you rest? What specific things do you do for rest? The margin/rushed thing is something I can relate to! I loved your video, you’ve got a new subscriber and I’m sharing with my BFF’s!
I'm so glad you're here! I actually have a video all about how I truly rest, I hope this gives you ideas and clarity:) th-cam.com/video/iwE_wWTU4sc/w-d-xo.html
I'be noticed that time blocking really helps me to avoid multi tasking at work. I block the time on my calendar and write up exactly what I'll be doing during that time, it helps me avoid my inbox which is a time suck. A quick 5 min to time block my next day also allows flexibility as priorities change throughout the week :)
Great video- one thing I wanted to mention is to put your meat in glass rather than tupperware (plastic). You may do this but since you mentioned leftovers in tupperware, I wanted to remind you. I think you already know this :)
I’m wondering if “nui-tasking” includes doing something without a background video or podcast? That’s the only thing that has remained a struggle for me, I think I’m in year 4 after getting rid of a smartphone and going back to a flip phone. I have it for urgent or emergent situations if I’m out, but I chose it to even make texting a chore. I wanted my attention to be in my children. But at home I have an iPad and maybe I’m on that too much.
I think it really depends on the person and the bigger picture. There's no one rule but for me I can usually tune in and be honest with myself if I start to feel scatter brained and distracted
@@jessicarothley I really do feel “scatter brained and distracted” often. I’m feeling a bit convicted on this. I’ve done so well in most areas, but I may be using my iPad way too often as background - to the point that it’s not back ground sometimes. Yikes.
I feel your pain! Our first house, my husband choose the decor for the dining room. I never felt comfortable in that room. Used to serve meals in the kitchen diner instead. It was so loud, bright, busy. Very dark wood. Was relived when we moved and the furniture couldn’t come! It’s hard to suggest change without offending. 😮
Stop bringing stuff into your home. Savings grows. Home gets easier to maintain. When something does come in assess if it brings value to your life. If it does remove similar item. If it doesn’t remove it. One in one out.
Any Book recommendations for saying No graciously? 😊 I‘ve recently read „how to stop people pleasing“ which was really eye opening for me. But maybe you have another one that is specifically about saying no with grace- thank you so much for your videos ❤
I like your video, good tips. But I have a common question to one thing I saw: is there a difference between American and European dish washers how they work? In many videos from Americans I see that all the dishes are pre-washed by hand before they go into the dish washer? Why are you doing this? In Europe this is not necessary, only if you have really dirty dishes. And even the instructions of the dish washers here in Europe tell you not to pre-wash as it is not necessary and also not environmental friendly. And it would save you a lot of time if you just place your coffee mug, your glass, your plate etc. directly in the washer before placing it in the sink and then have a pile there. I do not pre-wash my dishes and everything comes clean and shiny out of the dish washer, so I‘m really wondering why this is such a common thing in USA ( at least in all of the videos I‘m watching here on TH-cam).
that's interesting, I've never realized that. At least for my dishwasher, if i just put it in without pre washing it would definitely NOT take all the food off at all. I would LOVE to have a dishwasher that takes it all off haha, what companies do you guys use for dishwashers?
@@jessicarothley we have a lot of brands here in Germany: Miele, Bosch, Siemens, Bauknecht, Beko, Gorenje, Neff and many more. I personally have used already Bosch and Siemens and currently I have a Beko and all off them could handle dirty dishes. Only when I have egg or eggwhite that already is stuck on the dishes or e.g. a plate with mustard which is longer than a day on it, I prewash it. Everything else goes in the dish washer like it is.
Have you tried any of these? I’d love to hear your experience 👇🏻
Today I am very much feeling the scatter brained, trying to get too many things done at once mindset. Slowing down and focusing on one thing at a time is definitely a simpler approach!
Writing down things instead of keeping in my head has definitely helped me actually get them done and not forgetting to do them
same here!
I'm glad there are actual studies that dispel the multitasking myth!
