RJ is honestly one of my favorite guitarist. So skilled and has his own style.
Me too!
Pedal chain and amp settings please
It was the Funky Vibe for sure and possibly a Kingtone Fuzz I can’t remember exactly and then into a Divided by 13 RSA23 where most of the tone was coming from.
Thanks for a particularly awesome video. Was looking for which vibe he was using. Sounds so chewy! Thanks again!@@BrettPapa
Love your Hendrix lessons! Can't wait for The Wind Cries Larry.
Lol that would be a good one!
yeah joe, where ya going with that watergun in your hand?
Love this style. Two of the nicest guys too. No ego, just good fella's. 🙂
Two incredible players! Both Monstah Guitarists!! ❤
Definitely are ! There's no cutting corners with these guys
And again, RJ is an absolute beast. Cool guy and really humble.
For sure!
In a Hendrix book I have, there are some old pictures (black& white) of his hand fretting, making bar chords with his thumb, he bars to the 4th string with no problem, alien hands.
Watch old footage of him, like shovels
RJ ,Brett that sounds sooo good.Brett you are the man at laying down a great interesting rythm so your guests can SHINE.Way to go both of you!
Thanks for checking us out!
This is like at least 90% of everything you need to really know on guitar! Jim C.
Haha. Definitely would get you by!
Heck yes...more HENDRIX!!!!!
You can see in videos that Hendrix could dangle 3" of thumb over the fretboard while gripping a chord . LOOOOOONNNNGGGGGG fingers.
For sure!
Incredible
Glad you liked it!
You guys absolutely rock. That opening jam is amazing....it's a masterclass all by itself.
Thanks for checking us out!

Brett is such a humble man.
You should visit Roy Buchanan's version
It’s so obvious now, isn’t it?
😮 “RJ” stands for “Rad Jammin”.
Lol!
This is the best intro I have ever seen on TH-cam
Glad you liked it!
Learning to play these amazing Hendrix style of playing on my thinline telecaster . Thanks for sharing the Spirit of Jimi .
Sure thing!
Lord all mighty, this is some of the best Hendrix style playing I´ve ever heard
Thanks for tuning in!
I can't quite explain it theoretically but one of the reasons I love chord progressions like Hey Joe and Little Wing is that they allow a very wide range of note choices as long as you stay "around" Em pentatonic. You can easily come up with all kinds of crazy licks and it still sounds okay and sometimes even great.
I literally cannot get my thumb over the neck while cleanly fretting the other strings. I’ve tried for years. It just doesn’t work for me. 😢
Don't feel bad Eric your not the only one I have tried it to doesn't work for me what works for some people may not for others. A lot of copy cats I like to play it my way there's several different ways yu can play it😊
There are a lot of really good Hendrix lessons, but this one is really special. Thanks a lot to you and RJ!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out.
All roads lead to Hendrix (or The Beatles).
Yep agreed!
Where can I get that guitar
Not sure. I think he got it at Carter's here in Nashville.
@@BrettPapa thanks
👍🏻 What a fantastic intro. To misquote a famous comedy sketch: you're playing all the notes of Hey Joe, but in a different order...
Haha
You are for to make the Hendrix guitar very good. Muy bueno🌵⚡💫
Thanks for watching!
Such a great episode guys!! Thanx for sharing it with us! Does anyone know what guitar Mr Ronquillo is playing?
Thanks for checking it out! He may talk about it on his channel
It's by RS Guitarworks, the model is called the Twisted
@@RJRonquillo Thanx! Wicked cool looking guitar & it sure sounds awesome in your hands!!
Thanks for info on the guitar, RJ. I’m sitting here wondering what is going on there and “Twisted” sums it up nicely. I’m going to check that guitar out because I have a blank in my shop that I’ve been waiting on the right thing to come along. Very cool. Thanks, man. I really enjoyed this video!
Great video ...great playing ...love it
EL OTRO MIRA Y TIENE UN CALLLL

Thanks!
love this lesson thank you!
Sure thing!
Still haven’t seen a Hendrix course that’s better than Brett’s.
Wow thanks man!
Yeah, why not use as a righty a lefty strat restrung upside down! I call that commitment!
Hey guys, next time take a look at Born Under A Bad Sign, the coolest instrumental meditation of Hendrix. (with a Flying-V)
Yep that’s a good one!
I finished the first Hendrix lessons on your membership site. I’m hoping that there’s no repeat. I don’t mean in the songs. I mean in the technical aspect.. once you get the thumb thing down rest is pretty easy to me. Is this gonna show me more of the things that Hendrix did that other players didn’t?
Inquiring minds want to know!!!
Valid question. As a fellow customer, I’m curious too.
@@Mike-rw2nhMake that two customers...
RJ’s Hendrix courses will be more on the technical aspects of Jimi’s playing. So of the basic info may be similar but we dive in in way more detail to the picking hand soloing techniques etc. My course sets the foundation and will give you an understanding what he was doing RJ’s is more about feel and technique.
I'd like to curl my hand around his neck too... 😆
You guys are excellent ❤.
What is that RS upside down Strat?! I couldn't find it in your links.
Please let me know.
Thanks
RS guitar works Twisted ……I think.
Yes RS Guitarworks Twisted
You guys sound great!
Thanks!
What amp was RJ using??
Divided by 13 RSA23. Fantastic amp!
This was wholesome 👍🏻
Thanks for checking it out!
Joy to see you guys jamming some Jimi
Thanks for checking it out!
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 like silk in my ears. I love it!!
13:14 I like to curl my hand around the top of the neck just a little more sometimes and get that fifth string with my thumb to play like C or D chord and it sounds cool because you can shift a bit and grab that low string too and put a little more balls into that power chord
And tons of SWING!
For sure!
I love RJ's commitment; playing a LEFT handed guitar right handed.
For sure!
very Doyle Bramhally sounding tone (which is my highest compliment)
Awesome! Divided by 13 RSA23 it’s a good one!
oh man - RJ urts dude!
Sorry: and your sounds!
RJ is Gold!
Fire sure!
Mike Landau does Hendrix songs very very similar
Yeah he is amazing at that thing as well!
@RJ_Ronquillo, I love your jacket, where did you get it ?
I think it's from Rogue Territory
I think Hendrix’s pocket and groove was decades ahead of the 60’s… I hear him and and you hear grooves and rhythms that would then be heard with bands like the chili peppers and rage against the machine. And the colors he creates with tone, solos, and vibe. Every time I circle back to him is such an exciting adventure
For sure
Of course I like !
Love that change up ,josef...authentico coolness with you two.
Thanks for tuning in!
Dudes! We're onto something, definitely motivation station here! Cheers 👌😎
Awesome!
Hey Brad , thank you to bring another guitar hero to your ‘school … it’s really making the difference in my learning… Is there still 50% off in RJ’s Hendrix course ?
Sure thing. Not at the moment but jump on the mailing list because it does go on sale from time to time plus the next in the series of Hendrix style courses is coming out soon!
Ooooh this is the video I knew I needed. But didn't exist until Papa and RJ brought it to us. Magical stuff, gentlemen. Thank you.
Thanks for checking it out! More coming soon!
great insights into Jimi's playing here! Can you help me find the link to the course?
Should be under the video or at brettpapa.com.
@12:10 Curtis Mayfield university
Haha totally!
Did I miss the deadline for the 50% off already? I'm not seeing a discount code on the website.
Yes. Sign up for the email list on the website because another sale on the course is coming soon!
Just re watched again, there is so much detail
Thankyou.
Every time I see your pink Nash I want to ask why the bridge Pu is on an angle vs straight. Is it because of wider pole piece spacing ?
We just left it that way so we didn't to cut out so much wood. Plus I have always liked the angled look. Thanks for watching!
Love Brett faking to be surprised by everything RJ plays or says 😂 sure you know it all man ! Actors Studio stuff ? Thanks you too, nice one 🙏
Haha. He does surprise me. He has the Hendrix thing down in a different way than I do.
You are one of my favourite guitarplayer on YT! I love your play and RJR!👏🎸👍🌅
Thanks for watching!
How to enroll Hendrix courses at a 50% discounted fees, please kindly lead me to deep link!

Sure thing!
Killer video. Thx 🤟🤟🎸
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
What can ya say? RJ certainly knows what he is doing!
For sure! Thanks for watching!
Thumbs just for the part of thumb to use for chords, never heard that and is a good tip!
Thanks glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
RJ always has the coolest guitars
For sure!
What guitar is RJ playing ?
@@VVojak thanks
Man what guitar is that? Dope!
I think he mentions it in the comments somewhere.
This was a great lesson Brett. I really got a lot out of it 👍
Awesome! More RJ Hendrix lessons coming soon!
That's a sick a** guitar!
Yep sounds great too
i love this shyt !!!!!!
More coming soon!
ok you two mad Jimi aficionados, both clearly masterful.. I've heard you both play lot's of JImi here with great strats, done lots of specific pedal demos, on and on... but I've yet to hear anyone match the kind of smooth saturation and girth of Villanova Junction at Woodstock. Massive, OD'd, yet smooth and tonefull... or the gigantic sound of Voodoo Child Slight Return, the Electric Ladylland album version, particularly right after the intro, when he kicks in the fuzzface, Incredible sound, yet to be bettered. If I could assign you two a challenge, that would be it, approach those iconic Jimi sounds. Can it be done?
Well there are a number of things that go into that. 1. Jimi and his hands. 2. All of those tones go through specific amps and cabinets, in a certain room, with a mic, into a mic preamp or board, compressors. EQ, recorded onto a tape machine, and on and on. So many things go into the tones we are hearing on records. The tone Jimi was hearing and got while playing may not even be what ended up on the record. All that being said we can all strive to get close haha!
@@BrettPapa agreed of course. I've been chasing sounds since I saw him live in Seattle in 1968, and 2 times after that. I've used original FFs and plexis of the era, and way to many strats, and much more. This has been going on all these decades. I realize what you are saying of course. I'm just pointing out, that despite renewed attention by smart and talented people and current technology, no one has yet to really approach some of those tones... I appreciate the love of Jimi both of you demonstrate ✌
Phenomenal
Glad you liked it!
Sounds angelical
Thanks!
sing it papa!!
Haha!
Incredible
Thanks for watching!
Nothing masterful about this. Pure refined top tier garbage!
Well I guess we know your opinion lol!
@@BrettPapa thought it was fairly clear. It wasn't written in code
@@jamesmoran7511 LOL you know nothing and thus you have opinions :)
@@TomCPlus1 that's the great thing. None of us know anything. Not gonna hurt my feelings Tom.
Nothing wrong with being an expert in the style of someone who has so fundamentally influenced the very core of guitar playing l, but what’s with upside down guitar. Jimi didnt do this for aesthetics. Seems silly.
People should "master" their own style, not Hendrix, not Stevie Ray Vaughan etc.
For sure but you wouldn’t have half of the guitar legends today if they didn’t do a deep dive into peoples playing. Hendrix being one of the main guitarists people emulated and there would be no SRV without Hendrix’s influence on him.
@@BrettPapa Sure, was just being bit provocative, we all have our influences 😀 and learn from our heroes.
RJ and Brett PaPpi are my 2 favorite Hendrix cats!! You can't more legit RJ really captures the feeling and essence of Jimi but in his own way and that makes it more authentic because the spirit is definitely imprinted in the DNA i feel it!!! Izzybella😂
Thanks so much!
Stop making fake GODS Hendrix wouldn't have that played better now then u2 have.
